For me the question is: What has to happen for me to delete a character? I rarely delete characters - mostly because I spend a lot of time creating them and getting the name just right... the costumes - well, after having played for over 4.25 years, I have plenty of Veteran costume change tokens, so that won't normally drive me to delete a character once it's at or above level 4.
To each his own. :-)

Quote:Just so you know what csrss.exe is supposed to be: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Client/...time_Subsystem. They clearly state in this article that stopping that particular process will result in BSOD, as you discovered.Recently my cpu has gone into crazy mode, hitting 100% while running on the lowest settings. I noticed it was the csrss.exe and did some research (tried ending it at first, not a good idea BSOD :/ )
Some sites say its a virus, some say its a corrupted user profile. Not sure what to do, Adware, Malwarebytes, Iolo, and Kaspersky have all come up empty. Will post hijack/helper if needed, don't want to flood the thread if its not needed.
What you use is a somewhat subjective personal decision. I've had a great deal of success with Malwarebytes and Adaware. I also use Spybot Search & Destroy. I've found Avast to miss a lot of stuff, and haven't had any better success with Kapersky. My experience is that it takes several different applications to detect everything - not a single one of them is perfect.
As far as your user profile is concerned - take care to NOT delete the profile prior to backing up all the documents and pictures and other files you've created and saved in your My Documents folder. When you delete your profile, all of those files will also be deleted. Other items you will probably want to try to backup - depending on what programs you use: Address Book, Favorites, any document templates that you may have created, and any files stored on your Desktop.
Good luck.

Did you actually have to rename the hijackthis executable before it would allow you to run as admin? If so, then something is not right...

Not sure if the other posters made this clear enough: You will almost undoubtedly need new RAM as well for your new set up if you are changing the motherboard to the extent you are indicating, so don't forget to budget for that as well. My assumption is that your current mobo probably supports DDR2, or at least DDR?

Quote:Are you running dual monitors? In another thread, some people are reporting a memory leak with dual monitors and removing one of the monitors appears to assist the game in utilizing memory more efficiently.hello,
finally got the drivers installed to run the game again and the new bugs hit. i have 2G of RAM and while i play that fills up till i crash. (running the task manager to check and at about 95% the game shuts down)
do i have to get more RAM now? system requirements state that 2G are good without ultramode.

Since you've already been told by support that this is working as intended, your post really belongs in the Suggestions forum. While you may not like that it was done, it is not a bug, nor a technical issue.
Storm -
At some point, if the updates do not help with your problem, you should probably contact NCSoft Tech support. They will make you jump through some hoops (that's standard with virtually any tech support), but hopefully might have some ideas for you to try that might make a difference. At the very least, having more data may help them to identify where the issue is if it is in their code.
Good luck.

Quote:Unfortunately, it's hard to tell - one of the first things that people generally recommend is get all the drivers updated and the OS updated (critical updates in particular). If you get them updated and the problem remains, we can go from there.I am going to check with HP now...so do you think it is my drivers?
Let us know how you make out.
Storm -
You should check HP to see if they have updated drivers for your video and audio - the date on the ones on your system are last July. Hopefully, they will have something more recent for you. I tried to check at HP for drivers, but HP gives me a message that too many items contain the words pavilion DV6 ... is there a more specific model number or description for your computer? Like "dv6-1210ee" or "dv6-3001ax"?
The only possible place to get drivers will be at HP - I checked ATI and they direct you to the manufacturer.

Quote:Ah, but in the message you quoted, Texas Justice isn't addressing the auto-chat issue - just offering some advice about managing chat tabs.THAT...
doesn't change
THIS
And why, if I'm the one "hidden", is the system spamming me with the auto message? This was happening to me the other day when I was in base edit, and the other person was not getting the auto reply, but I was.
This "feature" is horribly borked.
I didn't realize this was such a problem - I've only ever had it happen a couple of times while in my base doing some editing - and when I get out of the base editor, it's fine.
I don't LIKE that people messaging me get this message. If I don't answer you, then I don't answer you. No need for the game to tell you I'm somewhere with my chat window hidden... and certainly no need for the game to tell you where I AM with my chat window hidden as someone suggested it should. A person is never REQUIRED to answer a tell, and if I don't answer you, so be it - I'm sure you'll not suffer permanent damage.
This game allows us to track each other very closely as it is (some friends and I call the advanced global friends list the "stalker" window)... I don't think I need the game to provide an excuse for why I might not be answering your tells.
Just my NSHO. -
What brand and model computer are your running? Are all critical Windows updates installed?
Does anyone know what version of the .Net framework is in use by CoH Helper?

Quote:It is safe to download. Basically it's a tool that runs some Windows utilities and puts together a report of what's going on with your computer, what hardware and drivers you have, and other details that can assist some of our more tech-savvy forumites in hopefully how to fix your problem.is that safe to download? I don't want to make anything worse..I feel like it should be..
We wouldn't steer you wrong.

Quote:Add to this that you CAN play the game ... just not on Virtue ... Which does suck ... and is why in most of the games I play I have characters on multiple servers. I do have characters on Virtue, but it's not my home server.Here.
Yeah, sorry Virtue's having issues - I have characters there, as well - but this falls under "Stuff happens." This is also why I tend to suggest people branch out to multiple servers, at least one east coast and one west coast.

Quote:Yes, specifically the Intel integrated graphics adapters. I believe Intel just released new drivers, but for only some of their GPUs - unfortunately I don't know which.Wasn't there something amiss with Intel integrated GPUs and i17? (not 100% sure offhand) And is there newer drivers available for that than 2005?
Storm -
Quote:I see you have Intel graphics - you will want to do some searches for Intel graphics cards here and you'll probably find some problems similar to some of yours.I need help can't find anything on here, i deleted SP3 thought that would do it, nothing, went into opengl that didn't work, I log in everything is fine, when i get to character selection all my chars are blue and see through, when i log in the game sometimes i see proper color, mostly not and stuff dissapears. I went into an instance and things were blacking out and i could see through walls, which i liked but its gotta be fixed, i'm unplayable at the moment someone please help me.
How long has this been happening to you in-game? Since I17 or sometime after that? Can you pinpoint it to a particular patch or update?
You should update your video drivers, and if you can, your audio drivers as well. And I'm curious ... Why did you delete SP 3? I would advise that you go ahead and reinstall it.

Another thing I wanted to mention: If your system is auto restarting after a BSOD, it is not giving you time to collect the BSOD information. You can disable auto restart after BSOD ... but I don't have Vista on this machine. In XP, you right click the My Computer icon, select properties, select the advanced tab and click on the Settings button in the "Startup and Recovery" section at the bottom. If you can find this in Vista, look for the "System Failure" section and uncheck the box next to "Automatically Restart".
I hope this helps somewhat.

Wow ... I haven't called you any names or belittled your anatomy - simply disagreed with you, so I think your post was completely uncalled for.
Expressing an opinion on this forum is just as much my right as it is yours, and it doesn't make me any more of a troll than it does you. I'm done here.

Quote:Anything is possible. Are you using a driver cleaner program when you uninstall your drivers? While I've been lucky enough not to need one, many very tech-savvy people here advocate that you use one to completely clean out all of the remnants of the previous driver installation before installing new drivers. Thanks for all the great info guys. Gonna try to troubleshoot a couple more things before I-order a new one, but I will definitely take your advice.
Decided to try uninstalling all drivers and pulling out then re-inserting my vid card. WAiting for updated drivers to download now. What do you all think are the odds of that actually working? :-P
Good luck!

Quote:Because I'm entitled to an opinion. Then why bother giving an opinion if you dont care LOL
See this sint about a bug or anything is it
People on the forums love to hear the sound of theyre own keys typing away, someone once said in another game "playing the forums is better than playing the game" lol true dat for many..
Honestly why even come in and give an opinion if u dont know and dont care
Truthfully .. i dont care about debating this or arguing it .. i only reply to keep this bumped to page 1 LOL
So TY im sure by now a red name has seen this lol
I see you've turned rep off. I wonder why? lol. -
Quote:As a matter of fact, out of date video drivers, along with increased demands on the video adapter, can cause overheating of the gpu... since a laptop case is a small enclosed space, when one component gets extra hot, they all do, pretty much.As above, check for dust buildup. You'd also be well served by making sure your fans are running properly too. After that, you could also try getting one of those laptop coolong pads to help keep the temps down.
And while it almost certainly has nothing to do with your heat issue, I will note that your video drivers are fairly out of date. You can get the latest ones here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...-Bit%20Edition
It's always a good idea to keep your drivers up to date, but moreso when you are noticing problems with applications that may have changed... obviously, CoH has changed a bit.

Subscribe to secunia alerts and you will see just how many vulnerabilities are out there for OS's and programs you know and some you've never heard of. Among those notices have been more than a few for Mac and various flavors of Linux. I'm betting that since MS Windows is still the more prevalent OS out there, it gets a disproportionately larger public bashing than Mac and Linux, which appear to fix their vulnerabilities without publicity and fanfare. Based on what I've seen, the proportions of vulnerability FIXES may be more analogous to market share... I could be wrong, of course.
As far as the OP's question - I am currently using the free version of AdAware on my desktop at home, and I like it just fine. As a supplement, if I suspect that something may have gotten through, I also occasionally use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to scan. May I ask why you gave up on AdAware?
I also am using NAT and have my router's firewall enabled - I do not use a software firewall. I also am very careful about what sites I visit and what I do on my computer. And, I have Secunia PSI installed (also free), which uses the Secunia databases and scans of the installed software on my computer and warns me if there are products which are insecure or end-of-life, as well as linking to the patches, updates or other solutions that the vendors of those products may have available.
A couple of tips for keeping your computer safer: Download and install ALL "required" OS updates, and apply the recommended (optional) ones if they have to do with security fixes. Keep your Adobe products updated as well as your java. Probably the highest percentages of malware infections on PC's have come from infected Flash or Shockwave content, infected PDF files or infected java apps.
The only 100% certain method of keeping your computer from ever being infected by anything bad is never connect it to a network or the internet, and never use external media like a CD or flash drive. Of course, that is unlikely to be an option for the vast majority of people posting or reading here.

One of the latest possible solutions for input lag if you have Asus hardware: If you have nvidia graphics, and/or do not have MS Security Essentials - look for and disable ATK Keyboard Services using msconfig. This solution was discovered by and posted elsewhere by jackal913.

Quote:Oops ... my bad. You are absolutely correct. Sorry about that - brain malfunction. Microsoft Essentials used to be called Microsoft Live OneCare... Well, I got the "Live" part right. What? Is not possible. Windows Live Essentials is a group of MS software, including Windows Live Messenger, WL Movie Maker, photo gallery, parental controls and other stuff. MS Security Essentials has no relation to Windows Live.
<sigh> I hate when my brain does that.
Storm -
Quote:Windows Live Essentials IS Microsoft Security Essentials. They've changed the name of it to Microsoft Security Essentials (probably because a lot of people, myself included, won't use Windows Live anything).I'm not using Microsoft Security Essentials, but I do have Windows Live Essentials installed (which can be quickly uninstalled).
Like I stated before, never an issue prior to this update.
Thanks for the reply/suggestion though.
And the fact that there wasn't an issue before only proves that there wasn't an issue before. If you haven't tried the suggestion, I would suggest that you try it.
There are a lot of things going on in I17 and its subsequent updates. Sometimes stuff that played together nice in the past will not do so now. People often turn off their anti-virus software while gaming, to gain just that little bit of extra cpu and memory. If you are not doing anything else except running the game, you should be fairly safe turning off the security package while gaming.
