Sometimes, CoX, CoX everywhere you look is just a cigar.

I was fond of the "let's add one more starting point for characters" idea.
If any of you have ever played the PC version of The Temple of Elemental Evil, it has a very cool intro which is customized for your party's alignment. Basically they went through the trouble of creating 9 different intros to the game so that you could choose the one that would give your character proper motivation to get to the starting point of the game.
It's a concept that's so very rare.
In most MMO's, they might give you a customized starting area but it's based off your race, which may differ significantly from what you think your character would fit best as.
in GW2, you have the opportunity to go straight from there to the mists and then to whichever race's starting area you want, and you can do what you wish from there. Which is awesome and a great way to give players more freedom.
Going Rogue's morality missions were a blast. I loved that most of them put me in a position where there was an actual CHOICE to be made, it wasn't a blind "click here to be Jesus, Click there for Hitler" approach like you see in every single damn bioware game.
It was "You can't destroy this massive supply of drugs, you gotta decide who gets em." or "Do you destroy this, or risk it falling into the wrong hands?" There really wasn't a "you have to chose this or you're wrong and stupid" answer, and that was a refreshing change of pace from all the other games out there. -
Quote:The new character creation screens allow you to check to see if a name is available before you even make any choices about the character. If you want to make extra double sure that the name is available, just /friend Stupendous Man. Of course, if the name is taken this method comes with the extra step of /estrange Stupendous Man, assuming you're disinclined to be friends with someone simply because they thought of a name that you wanted before you did.
Down at the bottom of the screen, type in the ame you might want, and click that magnifying glass. If the name is available, the game will reserve it for you so that you can take your time in character creation, and make the costume you want now. -

It was a while back but I had been playing for years before discovering that inspirations stack. up until then I had assumed you could only use one purple at a time, one orange, one red, etc...
I had assumed that because... no other games allowed for crazy stuff like that to stack!
Surely someone out there will discover this every once in a while. -
I made one once where you rescue a guy from the office building where he's working where they have the thermostat too low.

Wow if you zoom in really close on the TM to the top right of soon, it gives the exact dates for everything.
I can't wait for cyber space pirate gear! (assuming that's the silhouette for rogue/vigilante superpacks) -
Quote:You and Sammy T may have misinterpreted my meaning.I am tired, tired, oh so very tired of this type behavior being defended as "oh, that's just his way" or "oh, he's just telling the truth."
Truth-telling need not be defined as intended-to-provoke snark and just general disregard for the feelings of others. There is a HUGE school of thought online in particular, that rudeness is the new currency, its the new way to go, rudeness is power and if you cant handle being flamed, well you are just WEAK, and get your sorry @ss offa the Interwebs and STAY GONE, YOU CAREBEAR.
Rudeness being the new norm is one reason the United States is on the verge of social implosion: rudeness rules the airwaves, everyone is screaming and no one listens because every last one of us is a very special, special snowflake who gets to disregard the rules of orderly conduct. it sucks society-wide, and it sucks when people get flamed for absolutely no reason on a message-board when they're trying to share their love of a given thing with likeminded fans. Did [general] you think you were gonna find some cool people to hang out with and discuss your love of CoX?!! Well prepare to lose your illusion, weakling.....!
There's some real home-truth for you. Hope you're not offended.
The reason "telling the truth" is the most effective way of trolling is because no matter how detached the truth actually is from your argument, you imply that those who disagree with you are liars or disingenuous.
I could say something like "I think kittens are cute. It's proven that persons who are hurtful towards animals tend towards mental delusions." and by extension I would be implying that persons who like dogs over cats or who suffered trauma at the hands of a cat and therefore fear them are somehow wrong, inferior, or mentally deranged, which would be a travesty of logic and very offensive. That's trolling, or in essence, using my words to hurt people or to provoke a reaction from them (which can be further exploited).
Discourse in any public forum should be civil, to foster its growth. using your speech to hurt or obstruct speech is hypocritical at best.
Quote:Personally, I think Longbow gets WAY too much flak.
They're basically the PPD with MUCH heavier firepower because let's face it, they need it! The average metahuman isn't fazed by bullets or punches, so Longbow has to break out chainguns, flamethrowers, and those pancaking Nulifier guns with the $*@^ SONIC GRENADES!
But really, for everyone giving them crap about how they took Mercy and they're vigilantes. I can't blame them. They had their BEST security during SSA1 and Duncan was still captured in what to be the most perfectly executed trap.
Longbow is taking the logical (though extreme) measure against enemies who have NO qualms about putting them down at the first chance they get. It's not very heroic, but it's logistically sound.
On top of that, it's amazing that folks give Longbow such crap when Recluse (who according to the UN I believe, I could be wrong) who rules the "sovereign nation" that is the Rogue Isles attempts to "annex" Galaxy City during the Shivan Meteor Shower.
...Isn't that technically an act of war?

Part of the reason I enjoyed GW2's beta weekend event was the fact that content like this, outdoors, involving multiple people, led to people actually working together like they might in any kind of realistic setting.
Did someone join in and help you fight a guy? you lose NO xp, NO loot, NO rewards. He can't even steal a mining node from you, you can mine it yourself even if he mines it and it disappears for him. Ahh, it's wonderful.
But since that much is out of the question I'd just like to move in that direction a tad.
Giving players a bit more action and a bit less standing around would be great.
I shouldn't see random thugs just standing around like they're waiting on the queue. -
I've always pictured Venture as a guy that smiles a big wicked grin and spills his drink with glee whenever someone calls him a troll or ignores him.
You know if you want to offend, harass, or downright troll someone, nothing's more effective than telling the truth. -
Quote:I just did!Tell us that when we haven't had our faces rubbed in Penelope's navel for several weeks straight.
:P
It's not like the cover to your favorite magazine or comic book doesn't have the same problem. Not every pitch can be a grand slam.
I am excited to see the concept of it changing regularly though. -
Quote:Perhaps this can be better illustrated by use of a metaphor.I hope you realise that in this specific context, extreme does not mean "in huge amount" but "approaching the furthest point from the centre". In this case, if you consider equal access to all costumes options for all body types to be the center of balance and complete lack of sexism, there are two extreme points for each sex which dictate exclusive access to certain items based on the sex of the character alone.
Before, both extremes were represented equally and thus a sense of balance was achieved, but now, we're focusing on the female side of the spectrum alone.
Let's suppose that they introduce a new costume set, and the females receive an awesome badass costume but the males receive something that in your opinion would only look good to a woman.
Would you consider that fair? If it happened for decades, both in real life and in every single fantasy world that exists, and then all of a sudden someone decided to give you your fair share in addition to "that other option you don't like", and there was this much complaining, would you be sympathetic AT ALL to any of the people complaining about that?
You're not winning over any hearts and minds because you refuse to see this from anyone else's point of view. Once you give yourself the opportunity to enlighten yourself, THEN we might consider what you have to say. It's a fair deal, we all had to make it too. -
One of NCSoft's other games, Guild Wars 2 has a pretty nifty outdoor content system where the stuff going on changes every once in a while.
It's pretty nifty but ithas its own issues.
The kicker here is that the street sweeping in-game already is just close enough to workable that I think with a few tweaks you could really improve it to be "more like" gw2 without copying anything from it.
1. If you're blueside, rather than sticking a stagnant spawn in the street and having the civilians see them and run away, have them go through a routine of running up to a store, beating on the window, breaking it, fighting a couple police that show up, stealing the cop car, and then going for a joyride culminating in them "getting away." at any point in all this a player could intervene and "save the day" (pssh) but it would make the city feel a bit more alive. Doesn't even have to be on constant loop. Scrapyard's a pretty cool example of something that just starts up every once in a while and does something cool, this could be a modification of that, liek a "giant monster" event that's nowhere near giant monster status.
2. If you're a rogue, you might have the opportunity to introduce a little chaos in the zone by actually STARTING that event. telling someone to go rob the bank, while you do your own thing in the background, etc. etc.
3. Villains might encounter a couple undercover longbow agents hiding and covering the entrance to a door while their gun-runners smuggle weapons and equipment into the isle and sneak past them into the warehouse. players could take down the gun runners for temporary powers like an smg or flamethrower, or drop the two door guards and hop into the warehouse to clear out the infestation.
4. a vigilante hero might actually stop by the rogue isles and instigate that incident by meeting up with a longbow contact there.
If I spent a bit more time letting my brain wander I could come up with some more concepts, each of them just as cool. But I'll throw this out here for now. -
Quote:"No, no, no. I'd never do that. But my sister will."...
3. WHEN you volunteer the character, you get a choice of actions the character can take. If your character wouldn't set fire to a building, for instance, it doesn't take that action. You have a selection of (say) ten possible things you could do (save/rob a bank, protect/kidnap someone, etc.)
...
I'll sign for this idea just to have the opportunity to kidnap Golden Girl and pawn her. -
Gee, it's almost like there exist villains with mind control abilities.
Ya THINK maybe the heroes that actually do the heavy fighting against villains in the rogue isles might be more exposed to those kinds of things?
Nevermind the fact that psychological warfare's far more effective than psychic powers at getting the paragon street blues to switch sides.
They shouldn't be your foes. You've been ordered to take down too many of your friends. take it a step further and start killing your enemies. You know vigilante is the way to go. You'll never be able to make the world a better place if you don't start being bold.

Quote:Perhaps, if it made it easier, you could add a new category of "Asymmetrical tights."This makes me sad, but from your earlier comment, I had suspected that was going to be the case. Thanks for answering, I've asked others several times, and never even gotten a "No", let alone a reason, before you.
It could even come with "asymmetrical tights with skin" and such. -
Oh good lord. the whining in here.
They're artworks from other sources that are being re-used, I imagine. They're not going to design brand-new full page spreads of characters for the FORUM headers that most of you don't see anyway!
Furthermore, had Marvel or DC ever decided to put one of their "lesser" characters like Cypher, Sue Dibny, or the Bamfs on the cover of an issue RATHER than the same old same old top-earner character like wolverine or batman (Frankly I'm surprised there aren't issues where they appear on the cover twice - like spiderman) I would be happy.
You get plenty of time to admire all of the heavy hitters. This is an issue where we are NOT supposed to worship some new rookie like a god, so they put a rookie on the cover! Naturally, of course, this is an affrontery to all of the players on the forum who insist that their character should have joined instead of peny yin and should be on the cover of the issue and the forum. And that everyone else should have to look at them.
Though that would be nifty, none of you are as good as I am at creating characters. -
my cellphone's not very good at taking pics like this but that's Morena in the background, a lineage 2 dark elf figure in front, some dice, mechs, starships, a pony, and some lego men in front, the remote to my room fan (which is quite nice), my solar powered wireless keyboard, this thread on screen to the left and the creation kit to the right. note the scary eyes I gave my old monitor. I just recently got this new monitor to the left, which is 3d compatible.
you might also notice the lobster beanie baby, the "Earthrise" wallpaper on the wall, and the "Caution: gets kind of warm" sticker, which came from the guys behind wondermark. -

Quote:It's not just that the characters disappear, but that you need to be able to do task forces and missions that refer to them, and technically every npc SHOULD react differently before and after their deaths.Maybe I am missing something completely. Isn't there technology built into the game that makes certain NPC's disappear based on your person choices? Why not just implement that feature for Statesman and Sister. Those of us that have completed the story arcs should have both gone from game.
...
Otherwise you end up in situations like in a certain TES game where you can kill a woman's husband right in front of her, throw his body into the fire in the middle of the room, and have her walk past you, look at him, go "heh," and then continue about her day.
Whether that's an appropriate response or not is an entirely different question, but... -
Quote:*ahem*The OP wants to talk equality?
We can talk about red side getting an exclusive SF when two major signature villains are killed off and removed from the red side zones.
What about an exclusive SF WHERE we kill off and remove two major signature villains from the red side zones AND TAKE THEIR PLACE. -
For the characters I wanted to design with stuff like tech wings, I'd create the costume in the architect costume editor, and export it.
I'd create a character with a similar style at creation, then move the ~1k infamy over and finish the process of crafting it and using it. a few extra minutes of work for a character isn't really that bad. -
Along the same lines, what about:
Choosing to have our fire control/sonic assault/ice melee/demon summoning (etc.) powers come out of an object such as a gun, wand, mace/sword, or magical whip, rather than the spellcast/shout/punch/summon animations they already get? There are alternate animations for a handful of powers, but they don't seem to be very focused in what they could enable.
It'd be interesting to see a villain who builds guns that do stuff like control fire or plants, as well as a guy with a sonic ray gun or a mace that does the fiery melee stuff rather than fisticuffs, and summoning the demons USING the whip just makes it look like my powers come FROM the whip, which is also amazing. Especially since the whip is such a strong symbol of slavery, which just makes the character more visually striking. (the fact that demon summoners actually USE their melee attacks helps them with this already) -
Quote:Welcome to real life, where there are "tiers" of membership at exclusive clubs....
If you have a VIP area pass to an event, but see that other VIPs get more than you just because it's your 1st time at the event, i bet you'll be complaining too.
VIP is VIP!
All of them.
Don't be surprised when they kick you out of the hockey arena because you paid for the cheap seats and tried to worm your way into a booth stocked with food and drinks in the fridge and a nicer view of the game.
