Volunteer your character
Sounds pretty awesome, I wouldn't mind seeing it.
I doubt it'll ever happen, though.
That would be pretty awesome. What about the character copy that spawns would be echo of "character name" that way you can be signed in on that toon when it happens. With all the people using O portals and messing with time I wouldnt be surprised if echos existed or if the entire multiverse just collapsed on itself.
I like the idea of my main being an AV to be fought by others. Sure Paragon could charge to register a toon too. So more coins for them.
Hell, I'd drop some cash on this. Sign me up.
Sounds similar to elements of something I once proposed.

I'd agree if only so the heroes would eventually get bored of seeing the same dozen villains pop up again and again...while over on villain side, I'd be dropping new player characters every run and in as embarrassing a way I could manage then take pictures to rub it in.
I do that all the time on teams when the leader has a doppleganger.
How about this idea to expand on that. In Mayhem/Safeguard missions, have a system similar to that where your alts can be randomly chosen to be any of the following:
Villain robbing bank: Safeguard Missions
Hero who tries to stop the robbery: Mayhem Missions
Villain trying to escape jail: Safeguard Missions
Villain whom you help escape jail: Mayhem Missions
to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!
...
3. WHEN you volunteer the character, you get a choice of actions the character can take. If your character wouldn't set fire to a building, for instance, it doesn't take that action. You have a selection of (say) ten possible things you could do (save/rob a bank, protect/kidnap someone, etc.) ... |
I'll sign for this idea just to have the opportunity to kidnap Golden Girl and pawn her.
you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you <3
While I have no real argument as to why such a system shouldn't be made (it's not a bad idea), this is still something I would never, ever use in a million years. I want to have full control of my characters in everything they do. I wouldn't mind putting them in antagonist positions for a player to fight, provided that player is myself.
Again, I'm not against the idea, I just don't really feel good about sending my character out there to interact with other people when I'm not around.

You worried I'd do naughty things to your characters? Because you should be
This is the kind of thing I might try once for a lark, but not really interested in PvP.
Sounds like a good idea to me really, but it's just not my cup of tea.

I mean, you know I was trying to make a literal goddess up until recently. You know what I mean

You should probably join some forum RP if you haven't already. I find the acute control with other players to be just as your expectations describe.

Were you suggesting that your toon is being used as an NPC/Bot? If so, please forgive my confusion, but that has even less appeal to me.
Allow your victims... I mean volunteers to spawn as radio/newspaper bosses and victims too
You could give each possible 'type' three options: No, Self Only and For Everyone. No means it won't be used for that type of event, Self Only means it will only be used for a mission belonging to one of your alts, and For Everyone means everyone gets a chance to face them. Obviously, a particular toon is not a valid choice for a mission belonging to that toon, and I'd argue that a toon can't be chosen if its currently logged in, to minimise the chances of you joining a team and meeting yourself. Or if the toon is logged in, the doppelganger uses inverted colours.
Different types would be like Mayhem Hero, Safeguard Villain, Radio Kidnapper, Radio Thief, Radio Kidnap Victim etc

We've had people suggest doing various things with their characters as NPCs.
So, how about a completely voluntary system here: Volunteer your character to visit the other side.
The skinny:
1. It's completely voluntary. You don't HAVE to have your character do anything. If you do volunteer your character for the system (and you can volunteer multiples!) it gets placed in a pool.
2. You have to not be playing that character (thus the multiples) when the pool is checked. The pool is checked every half hour. Character can only be used once every 24 hours.
3. WHEN you volunteer the character, you get a choice of actions the character can take. If your character wouldn't set fire to a building, for instance, it doesn't take that action. You have a selection of (say) ten possible things you could do (save/rob a bank, protect/kidnap someone, etc.)
4. If your character is chosen, it gets put into a (level appropriate) zone event, somewhere between EB and AV status (depending on how many people are around.) Alert goes out, people face your character.
5. They get rewards if they defeat it. YOU get badge credit for being chosen. If defeated, there's no debt for you or anything (of course, since you weren't playing.) You get... something (not sure JUST what - reward merits, chance of random powerset-appropriate recipe roll, something.)
Just throwing it out there for the heck of it.
