I have way too much on too many different characters to pull it all, but I have pulled down anything particularly valuable, such as purples, along with canceling any outstanding bids and pulling my influence storage bids down.

Quote:I just want to point out that there is no reason to wait until later levels to begin frankenslotting set IO's. Frankenslotting can be extremely useful at lower levels when slots are somewhat scarce. Once you hit level 22, triple and quad aspect IO's really start to pull ahead of SO level performance.as for enhancments simple training enhancments before level 12, then at 12 i want to start using Dual origins. then when I'm able to use Single origins i want to use them at that point. then when i get closer to 50 i plan on frankenslotting.
For example, a level 24 Pulverizing Fisticuffs: A/D/E/R provides about 53% total enhancement from one slot vs. an even level SO at 33%.
There are plenty of extremely cheap set IO recipes on the market. Even rare sets are usually pretty inexpensive prior to level 25, and can be crafted with much cheaper tier 1 rare salvage. -
So, what you're saying here, is that the devs lack common sense, because they seemed awful surprised & upset that anyone would even think of using the system to generate maximum rewards. Especially Positron..

FYI, the wiki page has been updated to correct the confusing AT headings.
-
They don't expire. The 20 hour timer prevents you form getting MORE fame points once the 5 boxes are filled. There is a separate morality meter that tracks your progress towards changing alignment. The only purpose of the 20 hour timer is to slow down the rate at which someone can change alignment.
-
I think you may be misreading those, which is understandable the way that page is set up. The headings should not read Controller/Dominator for both.
Controllers still have their current APP's. Those are not changing. The only thing on that list that applies to controllers is the list of Patron Power Pools.
Same thing for Dominators. The only thing for them that applies is the list of APP's. -

Figures you'd schedule this for the weekend I'll be in Orlando at Star Wars Celebration V...

Quote:I'm curious about this as well. If anything but Virtue & Freedom are "dead" and "unpopulated", who the heck are all these players on Protector that keep forming TF's at all hours? And who the heck were those other 7 people on that villain team I was on Monday morning? Must be figments of my imagination, just like the global channels that have a couple hundred people in them.Hey, can anyone tell me what servers exactly are dead? I only ask because I was told my primary server, Guardian, is one of them, yet I never seem to have a problem getting a team or even a 8 toon TF/SF together at almost any time of day or night. Would be nice to know though.
I actually found it quite amusing that each of the 3 Protector global channels I am on routinely have more players online than the one Freedom global channel I have in my list. -
Quote:I thought there was also a timer in between tips dropping. Something like 30 minutes between tips?Given the frequency of tip drops (as long as you've not done your maximum amount of counting tips (ie do not have 5 Fame Points), teaming is NOT an issue. The quickest I've gotten 3 tips (the most you can hold at one time) is about 1 minute.
There is and isn't a timer as in the quote. There is a max of 5 alignment/fame points in one day. After you complete an alignment mission, you get a fame point. That fame point will count UP to 20 hours. After 20 hours the fame point is free and you can get another tip for that fame point slot. -
I'm curious to see how this goes as well. It should be interesting, provided that eryq2 provides details of his experiences (both good & bad) and doesn't let his historical bias against the market affect the results.
Those of us who have some experience farming know all too well that drop rates are random and a couple good runs are not nearly as common as a whole bunch of runs with worthless drops. There's also been some excellent prior analyses of pure influence earning rates from farming done in the Market forum before.
Quote:I'd certainly like to learn a little more about how farming works in CoH. I love skishing massive spawns on an AoE scrapper. What type of map do you use? I'm finding all the ones I search for are not optimized for ticket drops in the latest revision of the Architect, and end up giving piddly rewards for a LOT of effort. -

Hmm.. Sounds to me like someone breaking the closed beta NDA.

Quote:Welcome aboard!Well, I figured this was a good place to look to see how worthwhile it was to start playing this server.
My girlfriends kids play here, and we decided to roll a couple toons here to play with them, as our normal server is Freedom.
Yeah, I think I may be done with Freedom for the most part. Yeah, the population is high, but most of it is people looking for farms. I think there are 1:1 ratio of fire/kins to every other at combo out there, altho SD/EM is catching up.
I believe that I will give this server a try, seems like a nicer friendlier, and more active population. -
Quote:I think you seriously exaggerate the issue for new players. Your perception seems to be that lower population servers are full of cliques that shun new players and ignore them. My experience has been completely different. I see new players often on Protector. They don't seem to have any major problems finding out about global channels, joining TF's, forming teams, or whatever other problems you seem to think they have.Do you think this would be the case on Champion or Protector? I'm trying to ensure new players know which servers have high populations so if they are looking for a more massive experience, they know to at least start with Freedom or Virtue.
I don't really care how you feel about Freedom as this isn't a debate about which server is "better," it's about getting information to newcomers so they can make an informed decision and have a pleasant experience. I don't think we do ourselves any favors when they join a server where it'll be difficult to actually play with other players in their new MMORPG. As long as we can get population information to players, you can go into the Freedom subforum and make a sticky telling everyone what jerks we are for all I care. I'm just trying to get new players paying subscriptions so I can continue to keep playing.
New players aren't shunned. They aren't ignored. They are welcomed. The Mentor Project, which has spread to all servers now, originally started on Protector as part of the New Player Council.
The so-called 'empty' zones are often exaggeration as well. While they might not be populated like the busy servers, every time I log on I see people in the normal popular hub locations: Atlas, Talos, Ouro, etc.
Quote:If we want to stay on topic then we can debate the merits of my suggestion... The server selection page should contain player population information so players can make a better informed decision.
Here's a counter-suggestion: Do what some other MMO's do. Lock out the most crowded servers to new players. Only existing players can make new characters there. All others are forced to go to other servers. That would balance out the population, alleviate the load issues on the busiest servers and increase population on other servers, which would, according to some here, be a good thing. -

OK for those who want to completely melt down their computers, Black Leather Angel and I are going to be holding an all Mastermind Imperious Task Force, Thursday (8/5) evening at 8pm Eastern time.
We'll reserve spots for anyone from the forum that wishes, but otherwise it will be first come, first serve. If we have enough interest we'll run two teams (which will probably melt the poor Protector server down into a slag heap).
Hope to see you there! -
Quote:If I was going to build an Empathy character just for TF support, I'd go with Emp/Sonic Defender, and concentrate on recharge. That would provide more powerful buffs from Empathy, plus add on -resistance debuffing from Sonic. Leadership pool Assault & Maneuvers, plus probably Tactics.Ty for all your replies...but what I want to know is to survive Mo task forces as emp should I have a build at soft cap and be ill/emp for the invis?
Add on Superspeed and a +stealth IO, and there's the equivalent of invisibility without wasting a power selection. -
Quote:Global channels change, players behavior changes. When I was on last night there were between 200-250 players online between red and blue. I saw several TF's being formed on globals as well.I just returned after a 2 year vacation. The first thing I noticed upon entry is the lack of....population. When I left you couldn't walk/run/jump/fly 50 feet without running into groups of people. Last night I saw, at the most, 4 people under the statue of Atlas and absolutely no global chat going on.
Did something happen in these last 2 years to clean out the populace?
Current active global channels for Protector:
Protector TFs
Protector Vigilance
Protector Watch -
Quote:Welcome!hello im brand new to this game, and started it alone. ive managed to get a hero to level 8 so far, and im on the pinacle server (chose it at random lol) there really doesnt seem to be anyone around on pinnacle. i was wondering if i could get a mentor or if theres a more populated server i can join with people to talk to. its kind of boring playing alone. =(
I'm sure there are several players on Pinnacle that will be glad to assist you. For now though, I would strongly suggest (if you have not already done so) joining the Mentor Project global chat channel. I would then suggest joining whatever active global chat channels there are for your server. Either ask on the NPC channel, or head over to the server section here on the forum.
All you need to do is enter the following command in-game:Quote:/chan_join N P C -
Welcome to City of Heroes!
The very first thing I'll say, which will be repeated quite a bit by others, is that you should forget about WoW's Tank/Heal/DPS trinity. Doesn't exist here. Not needed. Silly concept.
Second thing I'll suggest, is joining the Mentor Project. This is a group of veteran players whose only purpose is to assist new (and returning players) in learning the game and answering their questions. There are mentors on every server in the game that will be glad to help you out. Just click on the link in my sig if you'd like to check it out. -
Just what you have on your character.

Quote:On a Master run, at least in my experience, the usual tactic is to fall back to the hospital and wait for them to reset rather than risk fighting two at once. Normal STF? Fight's on!What then when you get more then one of the patrons at once? Say GW and Mako?
With a bubbler, I suppose a Master team could take the risk and fight one AV while the bubbler kept GW caged, but there's too much risk in that, as far as I'm concerned. Detention Field could miss or GW could take out the bubbler in the moment between one cage dropping and applying the next. And caging as a tactic requires a bubbler that A: took Detention Field in the first place & B: slotted it with HO's to increase the mag of the cage effect. Those kind of bubblers tend to be a bit rare. -
