  1. Usually I have a generalized idea for what I want, but not a specific image to work from. Example: young goth girl, all alternative costumes are just me trying to come up with different versions of the original idea. More or less. And I often try to use newer costume pieces in some way to justify my having bought them.

But sometimes I get inspired to try a specific look, and often it's because I see a cool costume in the game I want to emulate. This weekend I saw a character with a white-armor-against-black look that reminded me of how Star Wars stormtrooper armor looks, and I spent a lot of time trying to come up with a look for my space-themed raygun blaster character that followed that idea. (There are actually only a handful of pieces that work well for this, but I came up with two variations that I liked).

I also teamed with a friend last week who had a costume that included the fire wings and titan weapons fire sword and a fire aura of some sort and it looked VERY cool, and now I want to create some sort of demon or phoenix/fire salamander/whatever character with that look -- but my problem is I don't want to spend more money at this point, and I only have TW on my 2nd account for now but I only have the fire/ice costume stuff unlocked on my main account. :/ Anyway, I played around and haven't really come up with a look that I really liked just yet -- kind of want to do a smooth, all-black or all-metallic type of body that emphasizes the fire aura/wings over the actual costume...
  2. Not to mention, on any resist set you can probably cap both smashing/lethal and energy/neg energy (I usually do), which covers even more territory.
  3. Broadly speaking, yes. But it really depends.... on what you want, what suits your style of play, and on what particular sets you want to play.
  4. Except that usually there are so few tanks that my brute usually winds up taunting yellows anyway.

My point was that there are *some* (very few) situations where having more hit points is nice. Which is better than the *no situations* that you stated.

But it's not enough of a difference to make me want to play a tank. My invul brute can pretty much tank anything.

The former has the burden of proof. The latter doesn't. You can say that you lack the belief that the devs planned PVP prior to the game, but you cannot say that you believe the devs did not plan PVP prior to the game. Sadly if you're going to assert the latter, then you have to prove a negative, which is impossible. The only alternative is to have a dev back you up. Which isn't going to happen. For this reason, you should stop making the claim that you believe the devs did not intend to put / plan to put PVP in CoH.
    Belief requires proof?

Tanker HP is a nice thing to have, and can be fun to say, "hey, I've got 3500 hp" but it pretty much ends there at the end of the day, the results will be more or less the same even if you had 1000 less hp.

And a solo tank will not necessarily live longer than a solo scrapper. Once you reach an effective immortality line your scrapper can live as long as the tank.
3500 hit points is very nice when you're taking unresistable damage... say, hamidon.

But yeah, for most situations in this game a really well-built scrapper is effectively as survivable as a tank or brute.

Invulnerability and Shield Defense both have very strong taunt auras, so either makes for a good psuedo-tank if you cap your defenses.

Tanks are never going to approach scrapper-like damage, but some sets are at least not annoyingly damage-weak.
  7. As example:

I had Serpentine Fire on Freedom long ago... transferred to Virtue where I played more often, but I still didn't play this particular character (fire/fire blaster). On Virtue the name was taken and I had to go with Serpentine-Fire instead. This last year I decided to place a 50 on Union, and so Serpentine-Fire got transferred again, but by making a Serpentine-Fire on Union I was able to claim the name Serpentine Fire again (since it was free).

Second example: I used to have the name Shinobu on Pinnacle, and it's my global name. But after I came back to the game I transferred Shinobu the fire/kin troller from Pinnacle where I never play anymore to Virtue. I had to rename the character... so I changed the name to "Shinobu Dragonfire". Which I came to hate. Anyway, I wound up not having the name Shinobu on any server despite it being my global.

I also had a level 50 MA/Invul scrapper that I really liked on Virtue named "Shinobu Dragonheart"... a name I also came to dislike.

When Exalted opened up I was able to snag the name Shinobu. Later I was able to transfer my scrapper to Exalted, first creating a Shinobu Dragonheart there, then deleting the placeholder Shinobu toon, then renaming my scrapper Shinobu. So I have a 50 on Exalted when I want to play there and I have a character with my global as a name again after years without. I was quite happy about that. ^_^

(And I was eventually able to rename the fire/kin to something else... still on Virtue, now goes by the name Prisstina which is much better, and now all the way up to 46. I swear, I'm the oldest sub-50 fire/kin in the game... toon was originally made about June 2004.)
  8. Yes.

I've renamed many characters that way while in the process of transferring them, by making SURE there was a character with the same name on the destination server (my own level 1 if need be).

To be more specific, your character would show up as "Dust Raven1" and you would be allowed to rename the character for free.

Aw, how could it suck so much? It only has you run the SAME mission map twice in a row, escort a suicidal lady, and run all over the place gathering things needed to reveal one of the big secrets of CoH multiple levels before it was meant to be revealed! By clicking a magic wand 20 times in a row against grey mobs with several seconds delay between each click!

Although actually, the curing Lost part is kind a fun. >.> I still need to save that up for a Lost mission on a full team, I've seen people do that and it's hilarious.

See, what you need to do is get a team of 8 to run through the arc, and when you get to the "cure lost" mission, you all go to Ouroboros and start the Penelope Yin story arc. Then you can do the rescue Mr. Yin mission and go to town on the Slag of Skyway, Blubber of Steel, Ant of Atlas, Gruesome of Galaxy, etc. with your magic wand!

    But yeah... great arc...
  10. Yeah... the ability to cap defenses and resists at the same time... without uber-expensive IOs... dunno who'd want that. Must be a garbage set! /em rolls eyes.

I have a 50 invul scrapper, brute, and tank... all three among the toughest melee characters in my stable.
  11. You would lose any stored, unused alignment merits when you switch to vigilante or to rogue.

Personally for the time involved switching to villain and back to hero and then reconfirming your hero status again... not sure switching just to grab a few extra merits from the other side's SSA is really worth the trouble. But to each his/her own.

Yes, it's ridiculous to think that.

Big bucks being... what... 50,000 influence? 100,000? Back then.

    Or maybe... ONE MILLION INFLUENCE!

You can pretty much speed every door mission on this arc, so it's about a half hour of running around at worst. I've run it solo the last several times I've needed it anyway, so this doesn't really change anything for me.

My friend used to work at a large- format print shop. They'd routinely get people wanting massive posters made from stamp-sized gifs. Even better was the company that would routinely give him old advertisements and tell him to "take out all of the lettering, and put in this instead".

Since my friend was a decent artist... he could manage to do that. But not for cheap.

  18. Takes Care of Pets should have been a beast MM. She might need to make a new version when that set comes out.
  19. Congrats to Sister Flame! Also to your son Fire Chief!

Well I still don't have power (at a friend's house tonight) and they say I won't have power until maybe Tuesday. My apartment is dark and cold.

My friend from upstate New York wore his "I survived the ice storm March 1991" today. ^_^
  21. Forget what will I do if CoH dies. What will I do if EVERYTHING dies?

= I haven't had power since Thursday morning. Ice storm in Western Washington has made a lot of branches break and whole trees fall over from the weight of ice, and where I live there are a LOT OF TREES. (One barely missed my car!) I also live on a hill, and last night I had to park 3 miles away from home and walk up the hill, and when I got there there was still no power.

I made a fire, listened to the radio (my Tivoli iPAL can go for hours w/out recharging), and read a book. (Snuff by Terry Pratchett). But... NO COH!!!!

I'm posting this from work of course. I probably won't have power when I go home, maybe not for another couple of days....
  22. I like all of the pieces in the pack (haven't viewed the weapons yet though). But yeah, pretty limited. Even for females you basically have 4 costume pieces: choice of 4 head decoractions, choice of 3 carnie masks, choice of 2 boots, and the sash.

So I do think it's overpriced... but I'll buy it anyway. The items themselves are cool, and I've wanted carnie costume pieces forever.

I think a more complete pack would have had a corset, gloves, maybe a shoulder/sleeve option for the corset... and a couple of male options but the sash at the very least. Too much work I guess, but then for what we get I'd expect to pay less.

But I do like what we did get. ^_^
  23. I don't know why they suddenly had to force the help channel into your global tab. It used to only appear on the help tab... but I guess that was too easy to ignore. Now when I make a new character, I can be annoyed by spam instantly!

Some of it I may be able to recreate, I haven't tried. Even that would be frustrating, though.

One I opened last night, the ENTIRE body was different. I am not sure what it was called, but it kind of looks like rocks, but it is a costume. Also, there was NOTHING but hair on his head, so it wasn't the "masks with hair". Mind you, most of the ones I am changing were created i3-i4.
Again, whatever costume parts you used are still there somewhere. They've just reshuffled things as they've added new costume parts.
  25. Preferably people from MG's Taskforces, Brickhouse Chat, Antebellum Revolution, or my own SG/Coaltion. Those are my go-to channels on Virtue and if I can form a team without going outside that circle, it will be a good team. Don't care what people bring, really.

If I go outside that group then I still don't care what people bring, other than a good attitude. ^_^
