This was my only real issue with it as well. The whole tone of the movie was a little dark for me. Sam never seemed to take a second and go "dig me, I'm a User". That being said i did enjoy it and would completely recommend it.

My main problem with 2 and 3 was the Bloom/Knightley romance blah, blah, blah. So looks like i'll like this more and more.

That being said if you need an "artsy fartsy deep emotional plot with conjecture and pretentious drivel, and other chick flicky trappings " this is not the movie you're looking for. -
