How the hell has this not been posted yet?

Drama featuring writer Douglas Adams's holistic detective Dirk Gently, who operates based on the fundamental interconnectedness of all things. An investigation into a missing cat is inextricably linked to a chance encounter with an old friend, an exploding warehouse, a missing billionaire and a plate of biscuits.

I was not impressed with this when it showed here in the UK. I watched the first half hour to give it a chance, but then turned it off and have not been interested enough to watch the rest.

Just watched it.

I've never read the Dirk Gently books so I can't say what they are like in relation to that.

I did however, enjoy the show, it was fairly good. A nice little tale that was mildly amusing and kind of interesting.

I thought it was done pretty well, even though it was a lot simpler than the book's plot and Dirk's apearance is, I think, completely wrong. He should be, IIRC, a bit less young Sherlock and a bit more Bob Hoskins in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The character's personality and dialogue seemed to be done well, though. I wouldn't mind seeing them do Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul.

Goodbye may seem forever
Farewell is like the end
But in my heart's the memory
And there you'll always be

Just from watching the little teaser I had almost exactly these thoughts. I'm a huge Douglas Adams fan, and I've read the two Gently books at least four times each.

I'll reserve complete judgement until I see a full episode. I will, however, give it some slack, as it's trying to introduce a very funny and esoteric character to a modern and mostly young audience.

This definitely needs to get to BBCA. Is the couch stuck on the stairway in this? It would have to be...

As for the actor, I'd say his appearance is in-line with what I'd expect Dirk's to be.

Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)

He seems rather miscast to me. I remember him described as older (not old, but older than some guy in his 20s), heavy set, a lousy dresser and more rumpled in a considerably less trendy way.

That's TV for ya, I guess.

Hehe, indeed. Only on TV can you give Gently sex appeal.
