Quote:Actually: no, but point semi-taken. Remember: in the beginning (I2 & I6 respectively) these were not 'gender sensitive', and with the 'Cosmetic Surgeon', gender sensitivity has come across a few glitches, or so has been mentioned on the Boards here.If awhile back, someone had noted that none of the following were appropriate for their female toon:
Button Man Gunner
Longbow Rifleman
Wiseguy
Serpent Red Ink Man
Steel Strongman
Alumnus
Sorceror
Backwoodsman
Knight Errant
Web Master
Mystic King
Newsman
Web Master
Weatherman
Mr. Big
Hangman
Master of the Airwaves
Rocketman
Pumpkin King
Hitman
Lord of War
THAT would have been your response: Don't use the ones that aren't appropriate and get over it?
Quote:Thanks a lot. Obviously the devs disagreed and many of the above titles were given a female equivalent in i7.
Quote:You mean like the account-wide VIP / Destined One badge?
Quote:No kidding. How many toons would the "Doc Whedon" badge be an appropriate title for? (Hmmm. Maybe I could roll a scrapper and call her "Buffy the Slayer" ? )
Quote:However, just as I'm sure many players with female toons were annoyed that so many badges weren't usable to them, I get annoyed when I'm looking for a badge title for my villains and so many of the early Vet badges make no sense at all for ANY of them. (Especially since, when you roll a new toon, all you have to start with are Vet badges and a couple of nearby Exporation badges.)
Also realize that with GR there will be 5 Factions, and how will they be demarcated for Factional Veterans Badges? Or will only 'True' Villains have access to your 'new' Badge titles? I hope you see the problem there.
Quote:(I didn't know about "Treacherous" already being in use. Okay, substitute "Renegade" for that one.)
Finally, although I am an avid Badge-Hoor, I rarely Set any Title for my toons. Neither Title nor Badge Title, and I set my options to show as little of other people's characters as possible. While many speak of immersion breaking dynamics in the game; I only have one: disembodied words floating over people's heads. So I dont look at a toon's Title unless I really want to see what it is (and I dont). But that's just me. -
1) Crush the cookies.
2) See them crumble before me.
3) And hear the lamentation of Ulli!
Whups; wrong list. -
Quote:Taking into account that these are Global/Accountwide Badges; they work fine as is and for the reasons stated by others. There may be a few that you personally dont think make sense, but that is a personal POV; so dont use what doesnt fit. In one case, your suggested alternate (Treacherous); that is already available as a Level 25 Title for Tech Origin toons (and any toon at later levels). Additionally, not all Badges make sense as a Title for all toons be it due to backstory, AT, Powersets, personal preference, etc. Not a horrendous suggestion, but not really necessary of any Dev time either (IMNTBHO).giving villains the same Veteran Badge titles as Heroes. You know the ones I'm talking about:
Faithful ?
Loyal ?
TRUSTWORTHY ? What kind of name is THAT to give a villain?
Obviously some don't need to be changed: Eternal, City Traveler and Battle Hardened all apply equally to both hero and villain.
What I'm suggesting is that, where appropriate, Veteran badges have a villain variant.
Instead of "Trustworthy" (3 month badge), we would have "Sneaky."
" " Faithful, " " Faithless or Wavering
" " Dependable, " " Treacherous or Erratic
" " Loyal, " " Traitorous or Subversive
" " Steadfast, " " Fickle or Unsteady
" " Devoted, " " Self-Centered or Selfish
" " Dedicated, " " Unreliable or Stubborn
Most of the others, like Committed, Unswerving, and Eternal work for both Hero and Villain ("Addicted" seems an interesting choice for a villain), with the obvious exception of the 63 month badge, "Honorable," which of course would be "Disgraced." -
I dont have a problem with this, and personally believe that it is most likely 'in the pipe' (until BAB says otherwise) since there have already been changes made to some 'Armor/Body' bits already via Customization.
It's just a matter of time/priority. -
But then they wouldnt be Blasters. Personally, I enjoy my Blaster as she stands, and her alter-Blapper personality as well, but to my way of thinking my Corruptor was more what I would have preferred in a Blaster. But if you really want to be a Hero who Blasts but can stay up on his/her own; perhaps the less damage dealing Defender would be to your liking. I know it's not a perfect solution, and the better one would be to build around survivability through Pools, Ancillaries, and IO Sets, but thought I would chime in with another twist on the subject.

As noted in the past; this idea has a good solid 'no' from the playerbase in general, and appending aGlobalName to your character's name on screen can be really bulky. I mean, there are some people with some long Global Handles (check your Global Channels) and sometimes longer character names. This would make Petitions for ingame bad behavior a lot tougher generally, and be more of a pain than a boon (except to the Amoseying Spyd0rM@n types out there).
Also, A Suggestion veiled as a Question is neither one. Nice try though.
And as far as Foxtrot Uniform Bravo Alpha Romeo goes; it is a bad word, and during the days of the Great Wars; our men in uniform used raw language, but preferred to uphold higher ideals (we're only human). Thus the acronym in lieu of the 'naughty' words became de rigueur in much the way that "nudity is seen, but never noticed" by a gentleman. -
Quote:Possibly, but then why make a colorized comment about it? It is what it is, and I have heard others in other threads specifically state that Martial Arts can only be hand-to-hand combat; which is of course false.I believe Oneirohero was referring to "Martial Arts", the powerset, not martial arts the concept. In which case, Martial Arts does not use weapons.
More on-topic, I think I'd prefer to see a Seven-Section Staff than nunchaku. If the animations could be properly varied, it'd even be nice to see weapon customization for it in the form of samjitbin (three sections; similar to nunchaku with a third rod added, though the size of the entire weapon would be more akin to a staff than to a fighting stick), qijiebian (titular seven sections), and jiujiebian (nine sections).
If that is what Oneierohero meant; then I would have to agree with him that the MA powerset does not include weapons. -
Accounts generally expire at just about the exact time that they were renewed but 30 days later. And you of course checked to see that the date was 30 days later and not 31? Your November renewal date could have been earlier than you expected because if you renewed on the day before calculating from the previous month since there were 31 days in October. Example: you renewed your account on 23 October at 6:30pm local time; it would need to be renewed by 22 November at 6:29 local time, or it would go inactive.
Just a thought. -

Not strictly true by definition. Martial Arts are the Arts of War. Colloquially "Martial Arts' are generally considered to be the non-weapon-based fighting arts (martial arts again) but Weapon-Based Arts are indeed Martial Arts by definition, and in matter of fact Commanding Fighting Units, Intelligence gathering, and Piloting Fighting Vehicles are all Martial Arts (ref Sun Tzu for these).
You can maintain your prejudice to make Martial Arts strictly describing the Non-Weapons Systems, but it is not strictly accurate except by twisting the definition to suit your PoV.
For all that, Nunchaku? Meh. Neither for or against the idea myself, but I would rather have new content of other sorts to particular weapons especially in this game, but that is my prejudice. -
Quote:Truer words... gonna go find the servers for FB and take 'em down! My wife is playing THAT GARBAGE more than CoH; HERESY!I took a gamer girls off the market a little over four years ago, and have no regrets
Best of luck to you.
Also, beware those Facebook game aps - it can be all downhill from there
BTW, having a BBQ soon; fresh stakes! -
Chompie deserves even more positive Forum Rep for starting this; yes. Just because. Aint it grand.

But Sparx; that's Rainbow Six. And I got bigger boots.

Quote:May as well give it up; been suggested, and roundly, resoundingly slammed into the grave. PvP is not even barely on the radar for the vast majority of people in this game, and the foundation of non-PvPers was firm before PvP became even an option.ok, i came up with a possible a solution. This should be in a new thread but it hasn't been edited.
all of this is hypothetical
1. original topic is implemented
2. world pvp can be switched on or off
3. only attack 10 levels higher 9 levels lower (will that work)
4. If you kill the same person 15 times they become your arch-nemesis (maybe no on or off pvp with them?)
5. not in buildings like the police department or city hall (or within a certain distance)
the solution to ganking, no double teaming unless in a hazard zone, not a solution but reduces.
thats all so far
Plus the Devs already said that PvE'ers wouldnt have to even deal with PvP if they didnt wish to; which appears to include going into a Zone that has PvP for any reason unless they 'reeeeeeally' wanted to. A number of changes have been made to the game to make this point abundantly clear that the Devs respect their playerbase in this area absolutely.
SO, while it may pop up as a suggestion from time to time; it is just a waste of typing. And no your ideas arent new to the subject nor enticing to the vast majority of the gamers here. -
Quote:If your character is 'auto-retired' then I think that 'auto-deletion' would almost be mandatory. In any event, this (and similar) suggestions about 50's retiring, etc. would more likely have the effect of destroying the game. If it is a let down to anyone to Ding 50, and they feel the need to stop playing that character; well, there is a Delete button. If you need help finding it, send me a PM, and I will help.what would be nice about this, as long as you have the choice to retire or not, that once you get to lvl 50 and choose to retire you get another character slot. im an altaholic and i play all of my toons but my two 50s often but cant bring myself to delete them so i have room to make another toon. i hardly ever use my 50s but i do use them when someone asks or i get bored and want to relive the glory days.
im not talkin like every time you hit 50 you get a new character slot but maybe the first time you hit 50 and unlock the EATs you get one or two new slots. that would be nice.
And getting free slots for Dinging 50; not likely. Extra slots can be bought, toons can be moved to free up space, or as stated above. Powerlevelers would have 36 slot on a Server in no time with free 'Ding Slots'. Silly. -
I would say more, but just... ugh.
I almost wonder if this is an attempt to see how low a Forum Rep one person can get in the shortest amount of time.
I will chime in that I enjoy my 50's and my Main the most. If I couldn't play him, I would indeed consider closing my accounts. Tres fail. -
Quote:Quoted just so that my response is clear. As you said, not to be rude, buuuut...
First, we're not cops or firefighters: we're supposed to be super heroes. Completely different. They don't write comic books about every-day cops and they sure as hell don't make computer games about them and call them super heroes. Normal cops and firefighters don't save the world. Not even in movies. And in the movies, when they come close there is always some kind of fanfare played out.
Second, there's a hundred different examples already in the game of things happening focused at one hero. When you click on any NPC you get that NPC saying something nobody else can see. There's no reason this fanfare would have to be seen by anybody else or would have to slow down or interfere with anyone else's game.
Third, given the AE holographic statue that already exists, there could be one single statue in the game which would show a different visage for each player, or could even show the team leader for whatever team you're on. It would be easier by far to just make it reflect back at you whatever your primary or current costume is, but whatever.
Last is something I would never bring up but since you did I'll respond: cops and firefighters are doing a job. In a lot of cases they're either lazy and doing poorly or, worse yet, powerhungry taxfeeders. They get paid by having money stolen from other people and put into their pockets. When it comes to soldiers they're not only paid but trained to... Well, that's getting even more political and I don't want to get banned so I won't go any further there. My point is that our political opinions about certain jobs are not, and should not be, relevent when discussing how our characters are responded to in game. The two things are entirely unrelated.
I, for one, would very much like to see some of the OP's ideas carefully considered and implemented in whatever fashion the devs deem feasible.
Robin
So, since everything is apparently available; this is merely a matter of degree of narcissism? Not that I am against that necessarily; to each their own. But as you stated; NPCs say 'hundreds of things' already (a smidge hyperbolic, but every metaphor breaks down). All the threads I have seen over the years here about statues and more 'props' for our work just seem a little too self-indulgent for my own tastes.
Especially since many video gamers arent even near the level of the 'lazy' cop you decry or the (apparently) 'bloodthirsty' soldiers. But keep grinding that axe... it is rather dull.
Actually, Heroes (and Villains) in this game are doing a 'job' too; they even have a Work ID for it, and I see laziness, and bloodlust, etc. throughout the game. And aside from the 'publicity' seeking comicbook heroes, not alot of them get a lot of parades in the genre. Some may not think it enough for their egos, but there actually is a lot of notoriety for a Hero or Villain in game already, and I doubt it will increase substantially. -
Well, I've played through every mission on redside, and except for perhaps the 'Rampaging Hero/Villain' mission; I have seen examples of each mission the OP described a number of times. Perhaps the descriptions are not clear enough to me, but I have seen them. Actually the Dr Vahz mish description sounds almost exactly like a mission I remember blueside, but might not be exactly what the OP wants.
Thinking about it; I seem to remember a 'rampaging Hero-style' mission in the Isles. Exactly? No, but similar. -
I've got to agree with Fleeting here. We have all of those types of missions already. SOme of which are not really well received. Of course, I spend most of my time redside where these happen, and CoV was an upgrade to graphics/missions/flow which the blueside stories really need to be revamped to fix. But that is actually a huge job according to the Devs. CoV tightened up the CoH paradigm and improved it, but backwards improving (of blueside) would be a momentous undertaking.
I still hold out hope for 'someday' though.
Especially since I am gonna have to run through that blue timesink of monotony with a few Villains someday... meh. -
Quote:Not to be rude, buuuuut... when is the last time you went up to a local fireman or police officer who either just came out some dire situation that basically affected your life without you knowing it and said: "Hey Officer Murphy. You're the best. Thank you for all that you've done to keep the streets safer for myself and my family, sir!" ? And it really is pretty much the same thing. I mean, most of the population of Paragon or the Isles doesn't know what we are doing in an instance or even in a TF/SF; why would they be seeking you out for particular adoration above what the NPC's already do say? Now, i realize that the above example is ludicrous, but, when we finish a particularly difficult arc or take on some daunting task, or even finish a tf/sf, you'd think the local populace would be a little more appreciative. I mean, go thru galaxy city or atlas and there are plenty of statues of heroes that have accomplished monumental tasks...And they have statues built after them!
So my question/idea is, would it be possible to show a little outward recognition to us heroes or villains out there? can we get npc's cheering for us or cowering from us in the streets? Can we have people asking for our autographs? can we have...dare i say it...statues of our presently greatest heroes or some other form of public recognition?
This is a daunting task, and maybe its not even possible, and i admit, im not really sure the extent of what im suggesting here. but i for one would like to feel a little less average when im in paragon city fighting crime, and a little more like my character matters
Anyone else share my sentiments?
I sorta understand a bit of what you're saying, but as others have stated: "those Heroes with the Statues are dead." Besides, the last thing I need when I am on Global Hide is for some wiseacre NPCs blathering on about me as I pass by a Black Market where some people I am avoiding are standing. Awkward.
Statues? Not going to happen (of course); it would end up as City of Ceramics. Besides which, the people of Paragon and the Isles see supes all the time... not exciting enough anymore. Sort of like how we don't usually go up and thank every Police Officer, Firefigther or Soldier we see. Pity.
Let's remember the everyday unsung Heroes. Thanks, Officers, Firefighters, Soldiers! Keep up the good work... I know you're out there. -
Why, yes. That is a kitteh in my pocket... and I am glad to see you.
Either way, ICANHAZDUFFELBAG? Need to send my wife's kitteh on the return trip (before I start 'cat-juggling'). Actually, the durn thing loves me out of the whole family, but if it eats one more Logitech cord; I will strangle it with the cord's remains! -

Most of what you got, MLEdelen, is rebuttal to your opinion with some sarcasm thrown in for good measure since you got nastily reactionary. Your point was taken and opinion weighed, found wanting, rebutted with valid rebuttals. Not as much flame; just some heat.
Plus, what Agge said. -
Quote:Meh. PvP is low because the game does not revolve around it, and it wasnt part of the equation from the beginning; thus some refuse to have anything to do with it. Turning off PvP? Take away any rewards for being in the PvP Zones, and I could agree, but then you wouldnt need to be in the Zones then either so why have it as an Option. If you dont want to PvP; dont go into the Zones. The PvP population is low b/c it sucks. and boring. all you do is go in and jump around with your stealth on with an attack qued up so when your in range you can attack and jump away again. There is no head to head attacks or battles in there. And especially when 30 people can gang up on 1.... There are reasons to go into the pvp zones other than pvp. Like getting the exploration badges and the 5 hour zone badges, and then the defeat badges (like getting the arachnos defeat badges from Warzone).... There needs to be an option to turn off pvp for your toon in the option menu.
And what 'Warzone' are you referring to? Only Rikti Warzone that I know of, and that is not a PvP Zone. And for Arachnos defeats you can go to Faultline and not Siren's Call (probably what you meant). Warburg has Rogue Arachnos that dont count for the SpiderSmasher Badge.
Quote:Anyway, I digress. Can they give us another trial to do in order to give us the mission computer from another trial....or atleast just make it craftable.
