It's not as easy for a lowbie to make quick Inf from the BM as it is at WW, but that's always been the case unless you get a lucky recipe or salvage drop that you can offload for 100K or more, which I usually have had at least one of by the mid-20s I'm glad to say.

At level 15 my dominator has a mix of DOs and TOs but can still handle her missions (+0/x1/bosses) By all means go the AE route if you want, but let's not pretend that that you're somehow being forced to do so.
  2. If my Mastermind gets a hoverbike can her pets follow on hoverscooters?

    Also /no.
  3. I just ran my 3 papers and mayhem in Cap au Diable, finishing up at level 15. When I went back to Desdemona she offered me the choice of Marshall Brass, Golden Roller or Peter Themari.

I selected Themari, wondering if he'd had his level range increased recently.

Nope, he's still 10 to 14. I go to him and the first thing he says after his intro speech is "I've got nothing more for you. So scram."

I really hope they don't extend the use of the invasion code. It's fine for free for alls with dozens of heroes or villains in the same place, but if you've ever fought an invasion event rikti or zombie solo with a low level character you'll know they are 'even-con' in name only, being far more resistant to your damage than a genuine equivalent level enemy of the same rank.

In CoV, those mini-villain groups always feel like they belong there. The technology-fearing Luddites are protesting in Doctor Aeon's city, what with him being the big science man of Arachnos, the Wailers show up in St. Martial because Sonata makes deals with devils, the Coralax and the golems in Sharkhead Island enmass there because of the presence of the Leviathan. It just gives these zones a unique flavour.
Very much agreed. I hate the outdoor enemy placement in several heroside zones, especially Founders Falls and Peregrine Island, because it makes absolutely no sense for those groups to be where they are and to be doing what they're doing. Crey agents in CoV are found near their HQ in Nerva, standing guard or doing PR work with the locals. Crey in CoH are just lined up in random alleyways looking for a fight.

Also, someone needs to tell Vanguard that they're doing a really rubbish job of keeping the Rikti contained, since they're strolling around the beach in PI, and hanging around Founders doing... well, I don't know... sight seeing?
  6. Miss Fox, my Claws/SR Scrapper. No IOs to speak of (mainly SOs and common IOs) but she defeated almost every single Praetorian Elite Boss in A Hero's Hero on the first attempt (Chimera got lucky once, as did Malaise. Several of the others barely scratched her.) She actually got quite boring to play from the late 30s on, due to most enemies presenting no real challenge, even at diff 4.

Possible, but they'd made no mention of looking to do the safeguard. My impression is still that they just wanted to lord it over some lowbies. I was on my (rarely active) 2nd account that night, so maybe they looked at my lack of vet badges and assumed I was a noob who didn't know the 'right' way to play.

    Going old school

Start Faultline at 15. If you stick to the story arcs they shouldn't send you into the red zone until you get to Agent G. Besides, if you liked dodging purple Trolls in Grendel's Gulch then you'll love dodging purple Arachnos in the dam.
  9. The best ambush has to be during World Wide Red.

    Yes. THAT one.

Hmm, why is the ground shaking. Oh sh...

    Level 50 Snobs

I suppose I'm a reverse 50 snob, since I deeply dislike teaming with exemp'd 50s on low level teams. I'm not saying they all do it, but I've been on a number of lowbie teams where an exemp'd high level has tried to run the team, or tried to play the low level game as if it was the high level game (Tank must go first blah blah...) or dropped their exemp the minute things looked remotely dangerous and wiped half the map while the rest of us got no xp.

One incident in particular stands out. I was running a team in KR, doing radios, and in response to one of my LFM broadcasts we picked up a 50 who said she was happy to exemp down. Fair enough, though personally I can't see the fun in running lvl 10 radios at lvl 50.

First mission in she starts going on about how our tank should go in first - with predictable results since a lvl 10 tank will die when hit by a full team alpha strike. I end up with my scrapper running in alongside the tank to dilute the alpha and we get through the mission... with a few faceplants, but many bad guys are beaten down and much xp is gained.

Then comes the next mission - Get the device from the Skulls. We enter the mission, and this exemp'd 50 stealths to the end of the map. The following conversation ensues:

50: I'm at the glowie. Tell me when/if you want me to click it.
Me: Huh? This is a radio mish, not the ITF. We're not speeding it. We want to fight these guys, for the xp.
    50: Well I'll wait here.
Me [looking at the Bone Daddy and his buddies in the first spawn]: Well to be honest I'd rather you were here with the rest of us.
50: Get a healer then I'll join you. I don't want to die over and over again.
    Me: Then don't.

    *Kick

We exited the mission to reset and I did another LFM broadcast. While I was doing so I got a tell from the 50:

"Enjoy dying. I hope you get stuck in there all day."

As it happens we recruited another couple of heroes and waltzed through the mission without a single faceplant. And we STILL didn't have a 'healer'

I've only completed Atta once, on that scrapper. I got almost 2 levels out of it, but it did take a VERY long time. A later attempt, with an Ill/Kin controller didn't go so well (try clearing out that map when your entire attack chain is comprised of Spectral Wounds, Blind... and Brawl.)

It is doable though, and the sheer size does make it rewarding. I have to agree with the other comment about the multi-level, multi-elevator science bases though - they're an utter drag.

  13. I have an AR/Dev Blaster named Agent Locksley with a costume that is fairly close to a Longbow uniform. While street sweeping some Hellions in Atlas I had another hero following me and attacking groups I'd already aggro'd. After several groups I turned and went down another street and he didn't follow. A couple of minutes later I received a tell from him:

"Sorry about that. I thought you were an NPC."

I took those kill steals as a compliment to my costume design
  14. Earlier day I noticed someone had a pic in their sig of their character wearing the retro jacket with epaulettes. NON-SPIKEY epaulettes. Since I have several characters with concepts and uniforms that cry out for epaulettes but don't want the ludicrously OTT (and oddly colouring) spikey ones available in the costume creator, I eagerly browsed the wiki to find out how to get them.

From what I can see these are a costume piece reward which is part of the Task Force Commander accolade, so they're ONLY available to heroes.

It is of course well known that 'the devs hate villains' but really - what kind of evil militaristic fascist dictator can't have proper epaulettes?

    Epaulettes for villains please.

    Looks like it.

After finally getting Gangbuster on Nightshade I grabbed the exploration and history badges required for High Pain Threshold, finishing off with Freak of Nature in Sharkhead. I got High Pain Threshhold immediatly followed by Demonic.

I can't be sure since the game is down for maintenance, but I'm pretty sure Nightshade still doesn't have several of the badges needed for the accolade. Even if she did why would it trigger on Freak of Nature, which isn't needed?
  16. D_R is of course too self-effacing to link to her I16 trailer

    ...

I do like the official one though. The difficulty slider scene made me chuckle, with a scrapper adding more enemies to those well known pushovers the Malta Group...
  17. There are those rare moments of unexpected glee when you half heartedly check a name you know must have been taken, only to get the 'This character name is available' message.
  18. I expect I'll roll several new characters - I played about with a broadsword stalker on test, and I have a couple of other concepts in mind as well.

Power colours don't interest me much, except for the min fx settings - I usually play with suppressclosefx enabled. I expect I'll play around with it a bit though (and if I can get rid of the annoying golden glow of WP I will be happy) That said, the alternate animation for MA's assassin strike means I'll be returning to a stalker I abandoned at level 6 because I hated the original AS so much.

My favourite new feature by far is the difficulty settings. This will actually make soloing at high levels challenging (and therefore interesting) again. No longer will I have to go all the way out to the Fab when I want to test myself

Haven't tried the SSKing yet, but hopefully that and the AE adjustments (nerf is such an ugly word...) will revitalise regular casual teaming a bit.

Since I've been playing I've seen the launch of I13, 14 and 15, and now I16. I16 is easily the best of them.

Oh, and good riddance to the emails.
  19. Finally got into my mayhem mission on Freedom. It was worth the wait though (+0, x4 and completed with 11 seconds to spare)
  20. Possibly just be a Freedom issue? I was unable to get into a mayhem mission on Freedom, but when I switched to a different character on Protector I had no problem entering a radio mission.
  21. The first thing I've done is enable 'Friends and Supergroup Only' on my ingame e-mails.

    Zone Hubs

This has nothing to do with people going to the Midnighters or Vanguard or the university. This has everything to do with Cap Au Diable being the AE focal point of redside.

Prior to I14 the only time I experienced lag in Cap was in the immediate vicinity of the BM when the Rikti attacked. Now, at least on Freedom and Virtue, there's perma lag all around the BM and up into Aeon City. This is particularly annoying since between level 15 and 19 a villain HAS to go there. At least on blueside you can level up out of AP within an hour, or start in Galaxy City.

Placing extra facilities in other zones only sidesteps this problem, it doesn't fix it.

    /unsigned.

A Midnighter Club in St Martial, while thematically not out of place, would only connect to Cap, which is already only one ferry ride from St. M., and Cimerora, but that's a zone that people travel to, not through.

Generally I dislike the idea of the same features being available in all or most zones, since it only reduces the uniqueness of each zone. Redside only has 7 zones, it doesn't need a second university. It's bad enough that someone thought it was a good idea to put AE buildings in every zone except Grandville, regardless of whether it made sense thematically (Sharkhead is a miserable industrial hellhole. I dunno... maybe the miners go in there and beat up Mako in god mode) or aesthetically (as in Nerva, where the AE building is three or four times the size of any other building in the region.)
