Quote:There have been several games of both genres that have tried, but were immediately rejected by both reviewers and most of the public.
Fighting games and JRPG's are my two least favorite types of games, both because they don't attempt to break the mold in any way. They just keep using the exact same molds over and over and over again.
Reasoning: "They changed too much of what we were used to."
Then again, I feel the same way about FPS games, and mainly because I go off of what I see, since I haven't played a FPS game since the original Medal Of Honor. All of them have you go in and shoot everything you see for the most part. I know there are exceptions, but they are kind of few and far in between. -
It does require that the person has some idea of what they're talking about when it comes to voicing their opinion.

I read the entire thing, and wanted to weep afterwards. -

Might as well include them too.
I once fought a Super Strength/Regeneration Elite Boss who completely and utterly destroyed me. And laughed after he was done.
I've always felt that people who say this game is too easy should give custom enemies in AE a try. They'd probably stop saying that after a few minutes. -

Most villains in Dragonball Z.
The original Dragonball gets away with it, since you know how most of the villains got stronger. Cell, who never trained a day in his life, is able to wipe the floor with the majority of the cast, who had to work to get as strong as they are.
Well, he did have to "work" to absorb the androids but still. -
I've noticed that most of the manuals I have go into great detail to explain enviroments, and other planes. But rarely are any of the enviroments given illustrations.....so I've been spending most of my day looking for pictures as to what these plains might look like.
The most that I could do was use nature-type wallpapers from various sites that I've discovered over the years, but when it comes to the Inner and Outer Plains, I come to a dead end.
Are there any official or unofficial sites that have the planes in illustration? Or do I just have to settle with just nature-type wallpapers? -

I pretty much stay away from mainstream artists of any genre these days. If you like alternative, New Age, Techno, and similar types:
http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/
There is a lot of good stuff to be found there, and some bits of crap as well. -
OP: It may or may not be related, but please do not install Norton again. I don't want to cause a debate, but I have never had a good time with that particular anti-virus program.
Now AVAST on the other hand.....(BTW Avast is free)

I see one person on Virtue sometimes named Yvette Masamune.
I don't know what it is, but there is just something about that name that screams awesome.
I actually sent her a tell saying that I liked her name. She was either confused or weirded out, because she responded with only a ......Thanks? -
The International Club Of Heroes has a spanish character inspired by Batman.....actually, every member of this SG was. They all hail from different countries, IIRC.

Quote:It wasn't thrown out. Things between Batman and Luthor heat back up in the Bruce Wayne: Murderer and Bruce Wayne: Fugitive story arcs.So I just got through this as of last night... and started on to the New Gotham stuff.
I have to say the entire 2-3 years worth of issues were awesome with great stories...
But the ending and New Gotham is thus far trash. This is mainly because the story with Luthor is more or less just thrown out and instead of showing continuing construction they just said "and now we're done everything is back to normal"
They go from a city in tatters with less than a million inhabitants...to Every thing is normal now with 14million people in the city.
The writer, at least in the Batman title, Larry Hama, completely dropped the ball and it's annoying that such a great series of issues is capped off so badly with so much lost potential. -
Quote:I gotta bring out the inner D&D nerd in me for this.
Anyway... I stand by what I said about natural heroes in D@D, unless you know a lvl 20 Berzerker that swings a hammer that causes magnitude 10 earthquakes.
Since a level 20 berzerker is a prestige class (found in Deities and Demigods), it's a pretty high chance that he can cause more than magnitude 10 quakes, since you can only exceed the 10th level of a prestige class when your total class number exceeds 20.
And since a prestige class becomes epic at level 11, the main class and/or prestige classes of characters might be much higher if you ever encounter a level 20 berzerker.
Let's just say the character is level 60: Barbarian (20 levels), Berzerker (20 levels), Tempest (20 levels)
I'd total up the stats if it weren't so time consuming, and my daughter didn't grab my pencil whenever I try to generate a character.
Magnitude 10 quakes for such a character? Quite possible......perhaps even easy.
Now that I think about it, I've heard about the sheer awesome combination that is Barbarian/Fighter/Frenzied Berzerker. There was one that was reduced to negative hit points, but due to the correct selection of skills, feats, and abilities gained from the three classes, the character was able to continue fighting long after she (I think it was a she), should have dropped dead. -

Quote:I like your style. Both of my brutes have done the same thing. My Mercs/TA Mastermind, Profiteer, is going Rogue strictly so she can work both sides of the financial fence. No heroism, no idealism, just pure profit.
Though they only go after people involved in certain trades. No attacking people who can't defend themselves, no dealing of weapons or drugs (they usually destroy most caches, but will sell weapons if the payoff is high enough)......other than that, they will usually take a job that pays well enough. -
To kind of get back on topic, I went back to looking at the skills of a 20th level monk. His "powers" as characters in Marvel or DC would see them:
Flurry of Blows: would make it seem like a monk could strike multiple times with superhuman speed, but many normal martial artists in Marvel and DC can do this
Unarmed Strike: A monk can hit as hard as anyone wielding a weapon
Evasion: Lowlevel superhuman agility
Fast Movement: Lowlevel superhuman speed
Still Mind: resistance to telepathic attacks
Ki Strike: Akin to Iron Fist's ability to gather chi in his fist, but a monk can manipulate what energy it is
Slow Fall: Unsure
Purity Of Body: Immunity to normal diseases
Wholeness Of Body: regeneration
Improved Evasion: A level of superhuman agility that could begin to rival Spider-Man
Diamond Body: immunity to poisons of all types
Abundant Step: in the same way Nightcrawler teleports, but a monk can only do this once a day
Diamond Soul: resistance to the effects spell have
Quivering Palm: a learned skill, as normal martial artists have learned one hit kill techniques as well
Timeless Body: Does not age
Tongue of the Sun and Moon: another learned skill, as normal people can learn multiple languages
Empty Body: Can make oneself ethereal
Perfect Self: a monk is no longer considered human
This doesn't include skills or feats.....but I can see some other classes rivaling many powerful heroes in Marvel/DC -
Quote:I've never been impressed with super-powered villains myself. I don't care what powers you have......I want to see what you do with that power.Well, when you look at it that way, he's an even crappier villain than I first thought.
And when Joker does kill powered people, it's usually those who don't have any defense against his weapons. Superman is invulnerable, so Joker shouldn't be able to kill him.
Iron Cross just had superhuman strength and endurance. Joker shot him in the head.
It goes for Batman as well when in VS forums. I'll give the edge to an opponent who is invulnerable or has super speed.....but for people without these, super-powers does not equal "instant win". A powerless Storm was able to best Cyclops and Callisto in combat, and they both had their powers. If you have no special defenses, expect a punch from Batman to hurt. A lot.
EDIT: Do fans of comics do this when watching or reading fantasy material? I've seen mortals take on gods, dragons, abominations, and entire armies with nothing but mundane weapons sometimes. Magic wasn't always an option either. If a fantasy character can do this, why can't a Badass Normal comic book character? -
Quote:Oh lord, so many horrid memories of getting completely destroyed by Jinpachi.Jinpachi Mishima from Tekken 5.
Or, the shorter version;
"Christ on a stick, you cheating [EXPLETIVE!!] Go to HELL! YOU [EXPLETIVE!!]"
Because damn, did he cheat like hell. Teleportation, unblockable attacks, stupidly fast moving and fast attacks and more damage than Ogre from Tekken 3...even my brother, a die-hard Tekken fan, was reduced to grumbling.
Azazel in Tekken 6 reeks of SNK boss syndrome as well, but at least I can beat him..... -

Quote:I can understand why he did this. In the materials that I own, such as the Spell Compendium, the Epic Level Handbook, and the Complete Series, using equipment, spells, and feats in those books can downright break a game. Even more so with the Epic Level Handbook.3.0/3.5 is broken.
Our Gm once ran a game and decided he didn't want anyone to use any book outside of the the three core books, PHB, DMG and MM to create a character since he felt allowing any other book would allow for a broken character.
I took that as a challenge!
I created a rogue/ranger/shadow dancer/horizon walker character with stealth levels so high that it was impossible to roll high enough to see him. There was simply not enough bonuses in the game even using feats to get a high enough spot.
The Gm did point out that stealth didn't equal invisibility to which I replied...
It will next level when I get HiPS!
To respond to the limited amount of spells per day compared to superheroes: Back in 2nd edition, I didn't mind that, but maybe playing Final Fantasy games for so many years made me grow tired of it. There is a variant rule in Unearthed Arcana that lets you do away with that, and use an MP system instead.
Some super heroes get fatigued after extensive use of their powers, but I can see them having MP (or SP) in very high amounts. If D&D characters use this variant rule, higher and epic level characters shouldn't have much trouble keeping up with super heroes.
With the proper selection of feats, classes, and skills, I can see fighters and barbarians being able to keep up with Captain America when it comes to stamina, at least. -
Quote:You know, I once undertook creating a 3.5 edition of Batman. Going off of everything I've seen him do in movies, comics, and the DCAU, I assigned him these classes:It all depends on the superhero.
Captain America or Batman probably about the power level of an extremely high level fighter/theif.
Classes: Fighter, Monk, Ranger, Rogue, Ninja, Scout
Prestige Classes: Shadowdancer, Bloodhound, Dungeon Delver, Exemplar, Spymaster, Streetfighter, Thief-Acrobat, Vigilante, Exotic Weapon Master, Justicar, Master Thrower, Reaping Mauler.
Skills and Feats: There were a lot.
I didn't even finish. This list is incomplete, and didn't include epic classes and classes from manuals that I didn't have at the time. Someday, I do hope to finish. -
Quote:Okay, now let's add magic weapons into the mix. Since some super heroes wield them, then it would only be fair to let the D&D characters get theirs.I think that disallowing magic items is an unfair handicap, but I'm a 2nd Edition (and skimmed over the latest edition) kind of guy.
But that still leaves mages pretty viable, especially depending on thier level and exactly which superhero they faced.
I guess Epic magic items and artifacts are to be included as well......but this would be overkill. -
Quote:Not an official chart, but I found a 3.5 chart for super heroes. a Strength of 30 would put someone at the Excellent range: able to deadlift 1,600 lbs. (Captain America range, I suppose)3.0 clerics could get pretty damn godlike by the teen levels.
Strength based characters could get pretty Hulk-like if they concentrated on boosting Strength. I remember finishing out a campaign around 18-19th level and having a strength score somewhere above 30.
