  1. So, for the past few months, whenever I've had to load an in game portrait, the game loads a corrupted image.

I thought this was a general glitch, until I realized that no one else had it. Any idea how to fix this?

Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.

    Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2370

    Intel Graphics card (I know...)

    Currently using Simple Rendering Mode.
  2. Congrats guys!

Praetoria is amazing, and I'm having a blast! I can't wait to try out all the new stuff!

  4. Currently, the Going Rogue Tips System works as such:
    1. After Defeating an Enemy, you may receive a tip mission.
    2. Upon Investigating a Tip Mission, you can earn a Fame point toward a new alignment.
    3. Once you receive 10 Fame points for an alignment, you can perform a Morality Mission to change sides.

    However...

Neutral Characters cannot take missions from contacts not of their "base" alignment. (A Vigilante can only take Hero Contacts, and a Rogue can only take Villain Contacts) They are restricted to Tips, Radio/Newspaper Missions, AE, and Teaming. (I.E. A Rogue could receive a mission from Dean MacArthur, but not from Field Agent Keith Nance. She could team with a Hero and perform the arc, but she cannot take the mission herself.)

Now, random missions are fun, but they're random. There's just something odd about being in a city where no one will speak to you.

So... why don't we introduce some special Going Rogue Contacts?

Morality ContractsA Morality Contact is an NPC within a given zone who offers missions to characters regardless of alignment. These story arcs explore the gray side of Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. These contacts don't directly change alignment. Instead, they offer Fame Points and a badge based on your moral choices throughout the arc. (You can only receive an Arc's fame bonus for a particular alignment once. If you revisit it through Ouroboros and follow the same path through the arc, you will not receive a fame bonus.)

These fame points don't count toward your Tip Limit for the day. You could consider them a single use "shortcut" to a particular alignment.

Here are some examples of existing redside missions that could be converted to Morality Contacts. My only 50 is a Brute, right now, so I'm not as familiar with Blueside arcs.
*Side Note: If you do not have Going Rogue, you are restricted to the "pure" path through the mission. The morality options do not appear.

    SPOILERS AHOY!

    Captain Petrovich: Iron Widow [20-24]
In Captain Petrovich's story arc, you track down the mysterious leader of the Scrapyarders: The Iron Widow. At the end of the the arc, you "Kidnap" the Iron Widow from the Council base she's held up in and return her to Captain Petrovich... who promptly sends her to safety.
Moral Choice Modification: The Scrapyarders have been a thorn in the side of Cage Consortium for years. They'd pay top dollar to have their leader in custody. At the same time... their working conditions are absolutely horrible. You can see why they're so willing to rebel.
Villain Choice: Take down Petrovich's men and turn Iron Widow into the Cage Consortium.
Rogue/Vigilante Choice: Take down Cage's Goons while Petrovich takes Iron Widow to safety!

Terrence Dobbs: The Arachnoid Cure [40-44]
In this story arc, you track down Biff, an Arachnoid searching for a cure to his current state. In the Villain version of this story arc, he bribes you to let him go. Normally, you fight him anyway because you're evil and that's what you do. But what about this?
Moral Choice Modification: After learning about Project: FURY, you were shocked to find out that Arachnoids are the failed remnants of a super soldier program! Biff, the leader of the Arachnoids, may be able to find a cure... if you accept his sizable bribe and let him live. But if you kill him, then you and Mr. Dobbs can surely make a killing providing extermination services to Recluse and his goons.
Villain Choice: Kill Biff to keep him from developing the Arachnoid Cure!
Villain Choice 2: Accept Biff's Bribe... and Kill him anyway.
Rogue/Vigilante Choice: Accept Biff's bribe and let him go!
Rogue/Vigilante Choice 2: Offer to help Biff find a cure for his condition... for a fee, of course.
Note: Accepting the Rogue/Vigilante options for this mission will unlock Biff as a Neutral Contact (See below).

    Neutral Contacts

A Neutral Contact is an NPC who works freely with characters of any alignment that can normally reach him. They do not offer a moral choice like morality contacts do. Their missions are identical regardless of who started them. Some examples...

    Hardcase: [30-39]
A Demon Hunter in St. Martial. Hardcase is the most heroic contact Redside, so he shouldn't have any qualms with asking Vigilantes for assistance.

    Ashley McKnight/Montague Castanella/Percy Winkley: [10-50]
The Midnighter's Club is already a neutral zone, so it's contacts shouldn't be afraid to ask for assistance from Heroes and Villains.

Tina Macintyre/Maria Jenkins: Rogues don't really have the reason or desire to actually rescue Statesman, so this applies more to Tina then it does to Maria. I'm just including both for the sake of completion. After all... a Praetorian Invasion of Earth would be bad for everyone, wouldn't it?

I realise it might be odd, as in "where did he get a junk car from?" However, the same can be said about the slab of rock right now. If I can pull rock out of a metal catwalk, out of the roof of a car, out of power cables, and out of DEEP WATER, then I don't see pulling a piano out of the ground as being any more weird. Would look cooler, though.
    Yes.

Only if one of the random items is a Bigger Fish though.

With the beams still aimed at the target but missing, you could at least argue that you misjudged the distance, it was absorbed, or just slightly deflected. As the case now, I have to pretend every character with an eye beam also has ADHD and will look at anything shiny in the room instead of their target.
Oh God Yes. This is a huge annoyance for me. With certain powersets, like Dual Pistols, or Kinetic Melee (especially Kinetic Melee) the miss animations are just... awkward.

Dual Pistols has you randomly aim up instead of at the enemy if you're too close. But Kinetic Melee? I have randomly turned 90 degrees toward an enemy at least once.
  7. /signed for both retro and noir.
  8. Here's an idea for an arc/tf/whatever.

The TF giver is a S.A.M. Agent whose brother was killed during the assault on Astoria. As a result, he's dedicated himself to banishing the Banished Parthenon once and for all. Unfortunately, he's less Van Helsing and more Harry Mason.

The arc has you dig through darkness, learning more about the Parthenon, While you investigate the ghostly (and undead) inhabitants of Astoria. Each soul you put to rest leads you closer to the horrifying truth.

All the while, a mysterious figure stalks you through the fog. Is he friend or foe?

Can you grant rest to the people of Astoria?

Can you prevent Mot from rising?

Who is that mysterious figure? And more importantly... what are his motives?

What happened to your contacts brother? (No points for guessing this one. *cough*)

    Woooo, spooky...
  9. Vanishing Contacts would be great for spookyness, IMO. Finish a mission, and the contact just vanishes.

Modifying the radio to play spooky static would be cool as well. Perhaps add a few silent hill style tips.

But most importantly, every contact should vanish after their quest. For added spookyness.
  10. I love Gun fu by the way, it's just not for everyone.

But in the spirit of over the top Wuxia animations, how about some crazy awesome weapons set animations?

Broadsword, Battle Axe, War Mace: Barbarian Style, slow yet powerful two handed strikes. Look at any D&D handbook and you'll see what I mean: A barbarian with a massive weapon about to SMASH some poor kobold or something. Poor kobolds...

Broadsword, Katana: Flashy Style. Fast, acrobatic strikes designed to look deliberately over the top. Backflips, swirling blades, tossing your blade up in the air. You know, like this.
  11. Swordless Fire and Ice Melee.

Conversely? Swords for Dark, Energy, and Electric Melee.

Also, a two handed option for weapon sets.

I'd also like the Thugs Mastermind animations for Dual Pistols, the Dual Pistols animations for thugs, and a single pistol variant for both.

Also, if you could have a variant of Shield Defense where the shield floats in midair in front of the character would be cool, but is probably beyond current engine capabilities.

Also, alternate animations for the travel powers would be so so so nice. Basic recoloring is cool, but there are other things I'd like to see as well:

PPD and Rikti animations for Teleport.
A "surfing" style flight animation, like Static Shock, Silver Surfer, Iceman.

    But yeah. ...It'd be cool.
  12. *bids a penny and some pocket on the Virtue Server*
  13. I've had time to test Kinetic Melee on a Brute, and I've quite enjoyed it. It's fun, flashy, and it does pretty good single target damage as well.

Power Siphon is a power that takes some time to get the hang of. It's not as spikey as Build Up, nor is it really as steady as rage.

It really works best if you have a nice, speedy attack chain. High recharge, Hasten, and the Quickened Reflexes Secondary Mutation help a lot. I might actually end up taking the t1 with this build.
  14. Do you have some more pictures of the enemy groups?

So I can copy their cost- I MEAN admire the new artwork?
  15. Oh, speaking of Dual Pistols, I've seen a few requests for (paradoxically enough) single pistol characters.

A lot of the Dual Pistol tricks are possible with a single gun. Look at old spaghetti westerns. Pistol fanning is a clever single gun trick, and you can draw inspiration from sharpshooters.

It wouldn't be as flashy as the John Woo style gunslinging we have now (which I love), but not every character concept calls for someone to be tossing around guns in midair.
  16. Quite a few of my characters might become neutral. I dunno yet.

I know one that is going to do an alignment corkscrew though. Assuming that article on going undercover in Praetoria was true...

    Resistance - > Loyalist (Saboteur) -> Villain -> Rogue -> Hero.

    I have my reasons.

    - /e lie down emotes (COV was 16 year and older... please let us be grown ups and allow this)

Setting and saving some basic settings in the costume creator...

    - Basic Fly
    - Basic Stance
    - Basic Run

Add alternative animations to the travel powers. This will allow for easy extra travel powers that are already possible in Champions Online. We already have some of the tech available... I give some excamples...

    - Fly
    - Fly +combat fire aura
    - Fly ice sled animation with breaking down ice
    - Fly hoverboard animation
    - Fly Rocketpack animation

    - Teleport
    - Teleport Rikti animation
    - Teleport Smoke animation
    - Teleport Arm console animation

    - Super speed
    - Super speed iceslide animation
    - Super speed skate animation
    - Super speed skateboard animation

Aside of this color customisation for the powerpools ofcourse is a must-have...

The NPC's should all do more what people usually do in a city. Line, parks, shopping etc. Off all posts in this and other 'All Things Art' Threats we can see that the players want more realism in the city. The civies are just to fake!

There is a perfect solution for this. A solution that would also make the life of the animator easier I think. A solution that would be an upgrade like Ultra Mode itself though. But I wanted to mention it anyway.

    http://www.naturalmotion.com/euphoria.htm

this would bring pure life to the city in its whole. For all NPC's... for all enemies...
Euphoria does look cool, but it doesn't seem like the kind of thing one can retrofit into a game. o__o
  18. How about some special emotes for weapons?

Claws, Dual Blades, Dual Pistols, and Thugs could do the weapons crossed in front of them pose. Broadsword, Katana/Ninja Blade, War Mace, and Battle Axe could do the weapon over the shoulder look.

Mercs, Bots, and Assault Rifle could do a military pose with the gun at the ready.

Archers could use the pose Wyvern mobs on the lookout use.

Also, alternate animations for the weapon based sets would be cool. I know some Thugs MMs would love to use the Dual Pistols animations. I for one have been hoping for two handed versions of the Mace/Sword/Axe trio.

    Losing Target

Enemies with stealth and placate effects can do that. Improving your perception or popping a yellow helps with that.
  20. Yeah. It's 3:00 PST.

I'd like at least a quick update to know what's going on.
  21. The main issue I have with Stalkers is that their playstyle feels very... odd to me.

Maybe it's because I have no idea how to play one... but here's the issue.

Most teams aren't built around stealth. They're built around "go in, take out that group of mobs, move on."

Stalkers are built around sneaking ahead, scoping out a target, and assassinating them. Solo, that works fine. Solo Stalkers tend to be able to take the alphas of their current SRSLY Settings, and can take out enemies at their leisure.

Team play, however... When I played a stalker, I would try to set up an assassin's strike, only for it not to go off in time (or at all, sometimes). By the time it did go off, the fight was nearly over because I had spend 10 seconds performing one attack while everyone else was going all out.

The issue is in the timing. If you launch your strike before the team can gain aggro, you take the alpha with your low HP and weak Defenses.

If you wait too long, you land one hit and the fight is over.

Getting the timing right requires planning with your team. Which, on a pug...
    Ugh.

Eventually I got frustrated and made a Brute. Stalker just isn't for me.
  22. The only time I've ever really had trouble on a team without the Holy Trinity Makeup was the time where we tried the Cavern of Transcendence Trial when everyone in our SG seemed to be leveling a Blaster, so we ended up with 5 Blasters, Two Defenders, and a Scrapper.

...Of course, it was the Cavern of Transcendence, and people kept going AFK for some reason.

Really though, every powerset is viable in this game. A dark armor tank can tank just fine. A Sonic Defender is amazing when played right. A Force Field defender is really useful, even if I personally found it incredibly boring. Probably because I was on a mastermind. Thugs/FF isn't exactly an "Active" combination.

Besides, Buffs and Debuffs are (in the long run) much more important that healing.

Focusing solely on healing is like trying to win a battle by throwing more and more troops at the enemy. You can win, but you'll have an easier time (and you'll lose less troops) if you improve your army's equipment and training (Buffs) while trying to force the enemy into an unfavorable position (Debuffs).
  23. Oh? The Shard thing?

Yeeeeeah. That was some confusion. Apparently, when they opened the second test server, the global friends list was a bit confusing.

The first Test Server was named TestServer2.

While the new test server was named something like TestServerAlt.

I think I was actually responsible for the rumors. A Friend and I were in a mission. He ran off when the new server open to try and test it.

He returned a bit later and rejoined the team, surprised that he was still able to.

He neglected to mention he didn't actually transfer a toon.

It was eventually cleared up, but not before the rumor had spread...
