  1. Intent is typically a greater measure of "good or evil" than action.

Action is typically a greater measure of sanity than intent.
  2. Well, there ya go on both accounts!

Still, if you're just buying for Ultra, no reason not to hold off a little while.
  3. I understand you want something pre-built Turgeney and maybe money is no object in the matter, but you're gonna be throwing a lot of cash at a name and some tech monkey's boss laughing all the way to the bank.

I built a PC less than a two weeks ago for $1k that will take me through the decade... It took less than an hour to assemble AND put Windows 7 on it -- would have been done an 45 minutes if it wasn't for those stupid processor fans.

Just hate to see our kind (tech inclined) throwing money away like that.
  4. I highly suggest holding out until the end of March if you can. When nVidia releases their new card(s), it will probably flux the market some; making the cards you're looking at drop in price (if history stays true).

If you're looking for a Direct X 11 card, I would hold out for several months. ATI's 5850 is selling ABOVE retail right now due to demand. The crazy part is the price keeps going up! Retail on the card is $259, while I paid $299. If you're just in it for CoX, Direct X 11 means nothing to you.
  5. I'll add to the folks that logged in to a sea of white. I'm running a ATI 5850. I restarted, reloaded, and forced verify with no success. After restarting my computer and trying again, the texWorldSW.pigg file is being repaired.

I'm guessing this will fix my problem (still patching), but wanted to report my video card type here so the Devs can piece this one together.

    Edit: Yep, that fixed it.

    I need to vent!

Personally, I not only think you were wrong to kick the player, I think you are wrong to come here looking for justification.

You don't know the person's build or slotting. Maybe what she was doing was exactly what she was slotted to be best at. Suggesting another strategy is one thing, but demanding someone to play how you want them to play is quite another and is exactly what you did. So she got a mouthy and threatening when you backed her into a corner? That's completely expected.

I run an Illusion / Kinetics who doesn't have Speed Boost; in part for just what you described. That's not how I built my character. I'm a melee specialist. I can stand right beside most tanks/scrappers and offer them constant protection and support. That's how I'm built. People who think they know more than I do see me run and and instantly start saying, "You're a Controller -- you need to stay back". Wrong, wrong, wrong. I'm not some mindless buff-bot. I'm built to tank and scrap if needed. I'm very upfront about it too. When I ask to join a team, I tell them I don't have Speed Boost. If they kick me, that's their loss.

In my eyes, there are three basic reasons to be kicked from a team: Extended and/or repeated AFKs (leeching), abusive chat (sexual or racial typically), or blatant disregard for the team (constant "train" pulls, wandering off alone, refusal to enter/exit a mission, etc). Bad players will never get better if they just keep getting kicked off teams. I'd rather have seven bad players who are doing "something" than seven players meeting any of the three attitudes above.

So my question to you OP is this: Did you complete the mission?
  7. I was really hoping to set up a Justin.TV channel dedicated to the adventures of my super hero. My plan was to "voice act" the various mission dialogs and set up "episodes" for people to tune in and watch.

Well, I've streamed JTV before (but not CoX) and set up my new hardware for some test runs... nothing. I'm steaming my desktop and everything else without issue, but as soon as I bring up the CoX window, it shows one frame of the game (on the stream side) and never changes. You can even still see my mouse pointer moving around on the screen, but the graphics never change. On my side, the game is still running smooth as silk.

While I know streaming games is possible (there are many popular WoW streams) using nearly the exact same hardware I'm using, I've had no luck so far streaming City of Heroes, nor have I ever seen anyone else pull it off.

So, my question to the community is this: Have you ever streamed or seen a stream of City of Heroes on JTV? Do you know of any reason I would be having the issue I'm having? I feel it almost has to be OpenGL related, but considering I don't have any other OpenGL games installed, I'm not sure how to prove it. Any insight or assistance would be very welcome!
  8. I would like to throw my virtual hat into the ring for fixing this issue as well. More and more cards are going to support this multi-monitor set up until it becomes the norm. One thing driving the support of it is it has practical non-gaming applications as well as gaming applications. I urge the Devs to consider how difficult this would be to add (or add again depending on if we're considering the past).

City of Heroes could really benefit from this. The vastness of the cityscapes and the broken hills of most out the outside zones would look so awesome in a panoramic view.
  9. I'm going to assume you weren't trying to be condescending in your post je_saist and strike a civil conversation with you.

I'm not blaming anyone for Eyefinity not being supported, but I am highly disappointed that it is not. As is my understanding of the technology, which I will admit is limited, the age of your engine isn't the question. It all comes down to if the game can support the resolution. Considering games like Halo (2003) and Max Payne (2001) can support it, I feel City of Heroes "can" support it in time.

If other players were to hint the lack of Eyefinity support was to "balance PvP" I'd chuckle and go on. If any red names tried going down that path, it would be a different story. Obviously, anyone with an older system that couldn't have the draw distance of a newer system would be at a "disadvantage" with this sort of reasoning, so my 'tongue in cheek' response was to force everyone down to the lowest resolution and most pathetic graphical settings in the issue of fairness.

We knew about the addition of the particle system months before it was released. Considering ATI's Eyefinity and nVidia's equivalent are being used as market devices, you'd have thought if we were getting something of that ilk in the newest expansion, it would have been mentioned.

All that said, I don't follow Paragon Studios and their actions as closely as I did Cryptic. Truth be told, I feel Paragon Studios is far better at giving the player what they want... Maybe they want to surprise us all and include it with Ultra mode. However, with no announcement and no mention from any red names, I won't be sitting up my screens for CoH play anytime soon.
  10. I'm highly disappointed to hear City of Heroes does not support Eyefinity. While I didn't pick and choose my system upgrade solely on CoX, it's quite a blow to see the game lacking in a feature so many of its competitors support.

The idea PvP wouldn't be "balanced" by this sort of technology is laughable; borderline insulting. If that was the case, everyone should be forced to play on Minimum graphics setting to assure everyone has the same viewing distance.

What seems quite a bit more plausible is the CoX cannot support this technology for whatever reason. I know the Devs have commented that they are going to need video card manufacturer's support for SLI / Crossfire technology, but this is completely different. I'd love to see a Dev stumble in here and let us know if Eyefinity (or other similar tech) ever plans to be supported.
  11. I've never had this sort of issue. Obviously anyone being selective about team members to basically street sweep is confused about what sort of game City of Heroes is. Especially at a level so low, everyone is basically equal.

If I was going to be selective about a sub-ten level team, I'd be asking for Vet years for the extra attack powers (and no, I wouldn't do this, but at least there's some sense in it).

Thanks for the quick update. This program makes the game much more fun.
Yep, this was driving me crazy. Although, my guys were a heck of a lot tougher until I read your post!

Also, thanks for the update. For me, this proggie is a "must have" to enjoy City of Heroes. I'm glad to see it continues to be updated and at the speed of the updates. Even with the bugs that crop up from time to time, I appreciate you guys taking the time and putting forth the effort.
  13. I've been putting off my computer upgrade for a long time... Dropped the $1k and bought me a new, well, everything.

    For my money, I got:
    Processor: i7-920
    RAM: 3 x 2gb DDR3 1600
    Hard Drive: 1tb 7200RPM 32meg cache
    Video Card: ATI Radeon HD5850
    Power Supply: 650w
Case: Yes (bought a new one)

I'm excited to put it together. Woo!

Zombie Man, what do you think of your i7? I'm in the market for a new MB/processor combo and I was looking at a low end i7 but was a little worried about the whole "multi-core not used" thing. Are programs smart enough to use a non-used (or less used) core or does everything try to cram through the same path? I'd be running the the i7-920 which is only 2.67GHz per core... Wasn't sure how worried I should be. (would be on a Win 7 OS)

Also, how large is your power supply?
  15. I was having an issue and it just worked for me. Hopefully you'll all get the same results soon.
  16. You're not alone. Dealing with the same issue here.

-- Test patcher seems to be working fine... Now that's odd.
  17. From all the in-game E-Mails I've gotten, reaching level 50 is only $30 away...

    I kid, I kid...

All these awesome announcements made about Issue 17 and we're stuck on when the Archtypes are unlocked? And another thread exclusively about the animated tails? Gah I love you wacky people.

    (I want more Architect changes!)
  18. So is Lighting Rod and Shield Charge knock back, but below the the magical .75 or knock up?

If neither of those are knock up powers, could I get an example of one?
  19. This is sorta a general question, but since it's relevant to my Scrapper build, I though I'd ask here...

I know that Knockback is knock up as long as the mag is less than 1. My question is, does being close to 1 knock them up higher?

Example: Lighting Rod has a default Knockback mag of .64. Through enhancement, you can raise that mag to .98. Does that make a difference? If so, is the difference measurable or noticeable?
  20. I have it skipped in my Mids build right now. I'm sitting at 30% defense pre-IO slotting, so getting to 45% shouldn't be an issue.

Although, I'm considering a few options. I want to be useful without being a typical build... Starting to play with some IO options now.
  21. So is this often skipped in the set or I'm I underestimating the usefulness of it. I'd think 2 minutes every 6 minutes wouldn't be worth it for a Scrapper. Thoughts?
  22. I see that 'One With The Shield' says it can't be affected by attack rate changes -- does that include powers like Hasten and set bonuses from IO enhancements?

    No PMs

BaBs, I tried to PM you about you not taking PMs anymore and it got bounced back to me. Could you see about getting that fixed please?

(I hope we didn't "Geko" another Dev... I guess post like this don't help matters =)
  24. If this is a roadblock, it needs to be changed. We're past the point of just accepting limitations because it helps maintain the status quo. Whatever brings the most versatility now and in the future -- that's what I'm on board with.

I'm wondering if this is yet another side effect of people only playing the AE content and skipping the regular stuff.

Maybe I should put a link in at the end of each video pointing to the ParagonWiki. Hmmmmm...

Still, I keep telling them when they ask...

Personally, I don't feel this has anything to do with AE. Some of these places are out of the way or at least somewhat "hidden" within the game. It's not like they're asking where Kings Row is.

If you don't go to your Midnight Club contact when he pops up, it's easy to miss and thus forget about. Ouroborous is very easy to miss. Even the Shadow Shard could be a forgotten location...

Regardless of all that, I love your videos .
