Quote:Well if DC loses all the court battles with the Superman estate, and then IF a subsequent deal isn't made with the estate to regain the rights to Superman, Captain Marvel/Shazam could very well become the replacement for Superman. This is why Captain Marvel will always ALWAYS be better than Super Man
Not saying that DC/Time Warner WILL lose the Superman rights, but that CM is the likely successor.
Though can you imagine the shake up to the comics industry IF DC did lose the rights to Superman? Especially if Marvel managed to slip in and obtain the rights?
DC would probably have to have another "Crisis" level event just to erase Superman from their continuity, along with some if not all of his supporting cast, plus Superboy, Supergirl, the "S" shield, etc.
Anyway that's just speculation.
As to Captain Marvel being better then Superman, eh I tend to think of them as nearly equal, with the advantage going to Superman since he constantly absorbs solar energy and that he doesn't appear to have an upper limit to his strength vs. CM being at the same power level. CM gets an advantage due to being magically empowered and Superman isn't immune to magic.
Like CM said in Superman/Batman Public enemies as he pounds on Superman "You know....you've never been very good against magic, and magic is what I'm all about!" -
Quote:Sounds about right.Probably to prevent situations where a level 50 necromancer, who therefore Extracts a level 50 Soul, is exemplared to level 30 yet enjoys the benefits of having a level 50 ghost following him around, fighting the level 30 content. Alternatively, imagine how unhelpful the Extracted Souls produced by, say, a level 20 character would be when he's sidekicked up to 50.
Essentially, it's making the Extracted Souls follow the same rules as other pets.
Ah well at least the spider problem was....squashed. -
Hm, so I guess the removal of the spiders means that the AE has been......debugged?

The philosophical, therapeutic, and moral implications of this research are immense.
From a therapy standpoint, wiping such traumatic memories may be the only way to help some people get better.
From a philosophical standpoint, some may think that all memories are important and should be preserved regardless of their traumatic nature as "Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it".
From a moral standpoint, some may think this is a new method of brainwashing. I know of a few conspiracy oriented relatives that would freak out and go on their rants if they read about this.
For me personally, fear is not an emotion that I feel these days thanks to some traumatic events of the past few years. Whether it is a temporary repression of the biochemical processes that generate the emotion, or something more permanent is something that neither the Doctors nor myself are able to confirm. I guess it doesn't really matter though. Memories are intact, other emotions still function.
Doesn't matter, though. -
Quote:Yes the Director Cut was much better and shows how screwy editing can hurt a movie when it's in the theatre. Another example is Highlander 4: endgame, with its theatrical, cable TV and DVD edited versions, ugh. Examples of movies with weak story, weak dialogue and just made minimal sense: Blade Trinity, Highlander 5: The Source (Highlander 2 was better)If they go darker, and replace the director with someone who understands that GR is *not* a kid-friendly character, then maybe. Then again, I like Daredevil, finding it a comforting mirror to the "Friendly neighborhood Spiderman".
GR needs to be more damning, less jokes. The directors cut was indeed a dramatic improvement, with the reduced effects.
Ghost Rider's story was mainly Blade 1 recycled; tragic, cursed hero having to fight villain who seeks major power up. -
Quote:The Han/Jabba scene was interesting and it sets up the fact that if Han doesn't pay up and fast that he will be a dead man walking due to the price on his head, and we get the glimpse of Boba Fett. The dialogue between them though is the same as the Greedo scene.Indeed. All I really want is the "uncut" version to be cleaned up. I don't want the added scenes that were INSERTED into the movie later (though I liked seeing Anchorhead as an actual space port, instead of just a dusty town, and I loved Han and Chewie running into the corridor filled with troops instead of just a blank dead-end wall). I just want the print cleaned up and made presentable.
To my knowledge that Jabba scene was never in any of the original releases, but they did show it off a LOT when they finally got down to add those other scenes digitally. I still think the scene was absolute garbage even WITH modern CG tech.
Greedo shooting first though was a BAD move by Lucas. Let's recap a few things:
1. Mos Eisley Spaceport, "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy"
2. "Watch yourself, this place can be a little rough."
3. Obi Wan lightsabers the two criminals harassing Luke and everyone sees it then resumes their fun and drink, though giving Kenobi a respectful amount of distance as they realize the old man is not someone to mess with.
4. Greedo gets the drop on Han after Chewie has left. If Chewie were there, Greedo would have been killed instantly by Chewie.
5. Greedo has his gun on kill, not stun and makes it clear that he's going to kill Han for the bounty, Chewie would likely become a slave again, and Jabba would take the Falcon. As Han said "Over my dead body!" Greedo's response "That's the idea". Greedo tells Han to get up and that he's been looking forward to this for a long time.
6. Han shoots first in the original version.
7. Now they shoot at about the same time, but Greedo's shot goes off to the side and they CGI Han dodging with near Jedi levels of speed.....ugh.
However reviewing items one through 5 and then 6 makes it clear that Mos Eisley is essentially a lawless town, criminals and smugglers are everywhere and that Han was defending himself. Sorry George, but Greedo shooting at all wasn't necessary.
Next thing you know they will try to say that anyone that saw the sticks instead of the lightsabers in the Obi vs Vader duel in Ep 4 versions prior to the DVD were hallucinating too -
Quote:There's also the Han/Jabba Scene in Ep 4 that originally had a human playing Jabba. Now again I could swear I saw it on the big screen but I also read about it in assorted books so its possible the memory is a bit unclear.in defense of the idea that there might've been a few releases that had a couple extra scenes, there was a prerelease booklet talking about Star Wars and in the original soundtrack album there were stock shots of the 'deleted scenes.'
however, i think you people are just seeing things and are obviously pretty crazed. -

Quote:Bane could injure one of Batman's legs instead of the back breaking, thus keeping his injury and recovery in one movie.I think the fact that a plant-based hallucinogen played such a big part in Batman Begins kind of counts against bringing in Poison Ivy. Oh look, that again.
On the other hand it establishes a sort of precedent for her shtick.
I'd love to see Bane or Killer Croc. I don't know if they could manage the back-breaking and recovery in one movie, but Bane's style could be a refreshing change of pace from the 'thinkerizing' type of villains the first two movies went with.
Still would like to see them adapt the mutant gang from Dark Knight Returns, would love to see the Bat-TANK blasting the mutant gang. -
"We don't want players to be overshadowed by iconic figures like Statesman or Lord Recluse. In the Incarnate system, players will embark on the path that will end with them being seen as more powerful than the current iconic figures in the game"
Oh nice. However from a story/role playing standpoint I can't see Recluse standing idly by while someone surpasses his power levels. -
Quote:Like many things in all 6 Star Wars movies, I just chalk up the prairie dogs, monkeys/tarzan scene and the army ants as Lucas showing off his CGI tech.Exactly. There are many ridiculous scenes in all the movies, but fonzi suddenly turning into tarzan and employing a monkey army was WAY beyond any of them and just plain dumb. And I don't have a problem with the movie being about aliens and I don't have a problem with the actor who played mutt. There were other scenes that were pretty ridiculous, the fridge scene for one, but the monkey one was, again, just plain dumb.
Another poster suggested it's the same as the ark scene where it was melting off peoples faces, but it's just not. The arc scene is different in that we accept that the supernatural exists in these movies, and the arc is explained to have supernatural powers, so when its opened and starts turning nazis into butter, its obviously a hard scene to accept in the real world but it works in a movie where you accept the supernatural. But when a kid greaser suddenly has the agility of tarzan, for no explainable reason even inside a movie where we accept the supernatural, and can command an army of monkies, again with no explanation as to how even inside of a movie where we accept the supernatural, then you go from 'hard to believe' to just plain dumb.
And I agree that lucas is a creative genius overall, hell, he created some of the best movies of all time in star wars and indiana jones. But that doesn't mean he doesn't have some really bad ideas, that can be negated with the right collaborators (see empire strikes back). -
Quote:Well he calls himself Mutt, and Indiana takes his name from his childhood pet dog Indiana. Mutt could always adopt the Indiana nickname to honor his dad. That would be the best option in my opinion. Maybe a nickname rename as well.
Still like I posted previously, its clear that Indiana is going to shove Mutt back into school and get his education up to speed and get him to graduate. Mutt as I previously posted shows as being at the "angry young adult" stage of life when guidance from a father would be a bit important to help shape him up and keep him on the right side of the law.
Mutt could then join the service and be in the Korean War and then start traveling the world and have similar adventures to his father.
Or it could be said that between movies he traveled the world with his dad and had even more adventures with him. Kind of on the job training as it were.
Keeping the character Mutt isn't a bad thing, just reshape the character bit and if necessary recast him. -

Quote:Define....child hood run? Was his child hood run the Adam West series, was it Batman the Animated series, or was it from a series of stories from the comic?Mark Millar also has stated a few things on twitter about Batman 3:
"Oh, wait. Con gossip: I know who the villain(s) are in Batman 3 and the big scene outside Gotham sounds awesome. Totally timely locale."
Assuming he's talking about the Loisianna localle, it hints towards Killer Croc.
Also he says that the villain is one from his childhood in this tweet:
"One of the villains is from my favourite childhood run on the character. Again, very unexpected."
If it was Adam West then it wouldn't be Killer Croc.
If it is Killer Croc....well...if they wanted a physical powerhouse to try to take down Batman they could go for Bane instead. Killer Croc, while formidable, doesn't strike me as a character capable of sustaining the movie as the sole villain. Also Croc isn't what you would call the brightest crayon in the box.....more like he's sharp as a marbleBane on the other hand in the comics and Animated series has some brains to go with his brawn. He's no William F Buckley but he's not a dimwit like Croc either.
Although...Louisana also implies things like the bayou and swamps......and that to me could mean Solomon Grundy as well as Killer Croc. -
From comicbookresources.com SPINOFF:
"Heres the good news: Sony has greenlit the second Ghost Rider movie, and Nic Cage will be back as Johnny Blaze. Heres the potentially bad: The movies budget may have been slashed almost in half in order to make it happen.
The Wrap is reporting a rumor that GR2s budget has gone from $135 million to $75 million in order to get the movie the go-ahead from the powers that be (To put that in some kind of context, the original movie cost $110 million in 2007 dollars). Part of the reason may be that Sony is only co-financing the movie (Hyde Park Entertainment is co-funding and taking international distribution as a result), although its equally possible that $135 million was seen as too much of a risk for the sequel to a movie that only made $115 million in the US. Part of the budget cut will come from Cage himself, who according to the site has taken a pay cut from $12 million to $7 million to stay involved with the production.
Sony had no comment when reached."
Ok so GR1 which for the most part I liked didn't quite set the world on fire (no pun intended), the idea of only half the budget is kind of bad given all the fire effects for the Rider and his bike, plus whatever super foes he faces.
However I don't think the bean counters quite realize that GR isn't a character that can be marketed for all age brackets like Spiderman can. Spiderman is for all ages, GR isn't. Ah well. -
So Riddler and Freeze appear to be eliminated. This to me is good as I still have memories of how they were portrayed in the other films.....ugh.
Dark Knight Rises......to me the title suggests that perhaps Batman has for the most part gone to ground due to the manhunt for him, and he's taking time to refit his equipment and the Batcave also. However some new menace is going to arise that once resolved, it will restore his popularity and get the police off his back.
Perhaps the assorted crime bosses will hire BANE to come in to remove Batman AND Gordon for good, but Bane begins to take over the crime scene?
Perhaps the Black Mask becomes the new crime kingpin of Gotham and Batman must rise up to stop his menace?
If Riddler and his puzzles, riddles and tech won't be used then I can't see Penguin being brought in with his trick umbrellas and aristocratic wannabe mentality.
Poison Ivy? Not likely. Harley Quinn? Not likely. I doubt it will be King Tut, Egghead or Bookworm from the old Adam West show either
Better yet, here's a an interesting idea.....the MUTANT gang from Dark Knight Returns. They don't need to be mutant's per se, but a gang of people that are terrorizing the city and the mutant leader wants to kill Gordon and Batman and wipe out the city. Now that would be cool to see them recreate the Bat-tank attack scene from the comic ("Rubber bullets.....honest!") and Batman's fight with the mutant leader "This isn't a trash heap, it's an operating table......and I'm the surgeon!" -
Bottom line is that many of us want Ford to continue as Indy, and realistically that just isn't feasible any longer. After all they made a few tongue in cheek jokes stating "For obvious reasons we have moved the time period to the 1950's", referencing how long it's been since Last Crusade and how old Ford is now.
So do they make a 5th movie with old Harrison Ford as Indy set in the 40's punching out the Nazis, or keep it in the 50's with Ford in the role one last time and the torch passes to his son?
Keep in mind that they can always recast the role of his son or reshape and develop the character between movies. -
Heh. Makes one wonder how many times the bean counters and corporate bigwigs that let Lucas keep the rights to Star Wars were beating themselves over the head with a blunt object over their underestimation of the popularity explosion that occurred.

Quote:Both last year and this year, the zombies are the low spawn probability group. I sent 5 toons to ToT so far this year and they all finished the zombie ToT badge last.Sometimes yes.
However, what is bothering me is the preponderence of Boss-class mobs coming out. Seems to be a higher spawn rate of Vampire Lords and Crones than in previous years, IMO.
As for Lords and Crones, check your spawn settings. -
Quote:Mutt strikes me as being fairly well educated but stopped in probably his sophomore or junior college year, and is of course at the "Angry young man age". Now he has a father he never knew he had, and the father gives him some guidance, gets him back into school (given that Indy is now the assistant Dean of the university he should have no trouble with that), he finishes his education and also studies his father's journals and books and gets some knowledge of the world. Honestly he strikes me as a good kid that for years did not have a father to give some moral guidance and discipline. Now he has one.1. maybe see answer 3
2. no, bad character is still bad character.
3. if they could get the right type of guy yes. Ya know ruggedly good looking, decent actor, refuses to shave below the neck. If they go for the emo almost fem looking man that seems to be all the rage right now then hell no.
Right now all Lucas based movies are on a wait till Redbox release before I will think about seeing them.
So let's say Mutt graduates, pursues some archaeology, studies his father's journals (surely Indy has some journals of his adventures), and even does a stint in the military possibly in the Korean War given the time frame.
Would that remake the character enough to make him an adventurer able to carry on the family tradition? -
-
For all that say Mutt is not Indiana Jones, you are right. He's not Indiana Jones, he's the son of Indiana Jones.
The questions comes down to these options:
1. Should the franchise just stop, except for books and games?
2. Should they pass the torch to his son?
3. Should they recast Indiana Jones like MGM does with James Bond? -
Quote:While some dead characters may get resurrected at the end, Captain Mar-Vell won't be one of them. Yes he's "coming back" as part of the Dead Avengers once the afterlife/hereafter is wrecked but he won't stay when it is over and things are restored.I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this comic event yet. Maybe it's 'comic event fatigue'. Maybe because it hasn't been hyped as much as the events of the last few years. But the Chaos War event has something that none of those other events had: Greg Pak as the primary writer. Which means it's totally awesome.
Marvel's Chaos War has a lot of resemblance to DC's Blackest Night: A universe-spanning threat, the dead coming back to life, and some hints that a few of the long-dead heroes and villains will be resurrected permanently once the event is over. (I'm calling Yellowjacket's return, right now.)
But while Blackest Night was mostly technological, Chaos War is magic. The magical equivalent of Darkseid wants to annihilate the universe. The first thing he does is take out Nightmare, lord of dreams. (Yes, Marvel's Nightmare is now gone.) Then he takes out all the underworlds -- Hel's, Pluto's, all of them. Then he goes after the material plane.
So who's going to stop this threat? That's where the awesomeness begins.
A team has been assembled called the 'God Squad', including Hercules (enhanced), Amadeus Cho (the token mortal), Thor, Venus, Sersi the Eternal, the Silver Surfer and Galactus. (Yes, Galactus is ON THE TEAM.)
But it's Pak's writing that's the real draw here. What other comic used sound effects like 'PATRICIDE!", or has dialog like, "Fatalities: Zero. Conformity with the laws of Physics: Zero." Pak's an incredible writer and funny as hell. It's because of him that this is the first multi-title event that I'm really stoked for.
Anyone else reading Chaos War yet?
