Quote:Sorry but as others have already mentioned, you can't have a chat window displayed while in other windows such as Tailors. Is there any way to display chat on alternate screens, such as the tailor, trainer or enhancement screens? I get a little weary of being halfway through a costume design, and hearing the chime for a tell, and having to back out to find out what its about: compliment, team invite, friend saying "hi", etc. The same with the other screens I mentioned.
Perhaps I should also ask if there is any way to negate the background on those screens. Seeing the game behind the overlay might help.
I /hide and hide from all when I'm about to enter into a screen I don't want to have to back out of until I'm done.
So I hide from all when I'm respec'n, at the tailors, at the market, crafting, or editing my base. Just remember to /hide and deselect everything when yer ready to be social again.
You can also set up keybinds or macros to hide from all and unhide from all to make it easier. I don't have those binds but I'm sure someone out there would be happy to give them to you. -
Quote:Oh I know exactly how to use the search tool.I could explain EXACTLY why you and your friends are having such "problems" with the search tool, Neo, but I honestly don't have the patience.
To sum it up shortly:
The team search window is working properly, you're just not using it right.
My point is in regards to UE_Damz retrieving number of players logged into the servers. (Post number 109 in this thread)
A blanket search with no qualifiers does not list everyone who is not hidden that is currently logged in.
By the way, I consider this broken, because I don't build PUGs by what ATs I think I need. I'm willing to offer invites to anyone regardless of their ATs. So I prefer to use blanket searches rather then put in qualifiers.
Besides, team members get irritated enough waiting for teams to get filled out. Taking extra time to put qualifiers into the search tool only sucks out more fun. -
Quote:Unfortunately EU_Damz, the search tool provided in the game is unreliable. You may notice that with every search there is a little blurb in the tool that reads. "This list has been truncated." I discovered this a couple of years ago when a friend of mine complained that she found it hard to get on teams and seemed to never get invites. She claimed she does not show up in the search tool. This is going by the /search command. Obviously doesnt take into account hidden players, but the numbers of hidden players would never be THAT high.
I tried the search tool and discovered that indeed, her name didn't show up in it. If I specified her toon name or the first 3 letters of her toon names she would show up. I also noticed that some other friends would never show up in the search tool, even though I new they were on. However, there would be some days when the missing names would show up in search and other days when they wouldn't
We reported this as a bug, but aside from the form e-mail that they have sent our bug in to QA we never heard anything more on it.
To this day, the Search tool remains truncated, and incomplete, as far as I can tell. -
Quote:I stand corrected.huh?
Warcraft I-III were RTS games. They had an online combat system (free, not subscription), but by no definition were they an MMO.
Yes the fact that they had a loyal following was a good seed, but not a primary reason for WoW's success. I know a lot of RTS players who wouldn't touch an MMO. I also know the resemblance between Warcraft and WoW are fleeting at best.
My real point was the 10 year head start they had over CoH. Those players who were in Warcraft would naturally try and most would sub to WoW. -
I have a level 49 Nec/DM MM. I've noticed lately that the buffs Enchant Undead, and Dark Empowerment tend to disappear from time to time. I can't be certain when they drop, it seems like it could be when I enter a mission, but not when I enter every mission.
Sometimes I notice the buffs missing after a couple of battles, and I can't be sure the buff was there when I entered the mission then dropped sometime while I was in the mission, or if they dropped before entering the mission.
Anyone else notice Primary set buff dropping from pets? -
Quote:You forgot to mention one of the biggest contributors to WoW's success. It had a 10 year head start over City of Heroes.WoW does not have millions of players because players can enter opposite faction territory. WoW has millions of players because:
- It's made by Blizzard Entertainment, one of the most recognizable names in the entire CRPG genre
- It uses the Warcraft IP, Blizzard's most popular property
- Blizzard literally throws money at the game
Yes, World of Warcraft as a title did not exists before CoH, but it was already a successful MMO early on and when it was 'Warcraft'. Then it got a major overhaul and was re-released as 'World of Warcraft'.
Subscribers to 'Warcraft' naturally subbed to WoW. -
Quote:Actually, Vet rewards were not around when the beta for City of Villains was in Beta. In fact. City of Villains went live in issue 6, and vet rewards went live in issue 8.They ended up using a similar phrasing for CoV beta, but it was the vet reward time they went off of.
So there were no vet rewards to base invites to CoV Beta on. -
Quote:I can understand your point. When I'm playing a melee toon, I really have a hate on for knockback. Also, I usually target a foe and instead of "manually" (for lack of a better word) running up to the foe and wailing on him, I hit my follow key so I know I'll be in melee range. If someone knocks my target away, I automatically follow them. This is were I end up in trouble. Often I end up too close to another group of foes and aggro them up.Could dev add Team Switch about Knock Back ?
Like team leader can choose Knock back allowed or not.
When KB not allowed, all KB power effect to KU or KD.
If feel KD or KU is too useful, how about add high taunt effect to KB power ?
I know Knock Back is 1 of most important action for "Hero feeling".
But in game play, especially team play, knock back is just harmful.
I saw many team wiped because KB happy KBing toggled mob to next group,
melee toon chasing KBed mob and bring more aggro etc
and I rarely seen team never broke after 4-5 wipe like that.
Most of the time I can back pedal in time and not trigger the next group... but not all the time. Its also annoying on my Dark Regen scrapper when I leap into the middle of a group of foes and a fraction of a second before I hit my Soul Drain someone hits the group with an AoE or Cone knockback and I get no buff from Soul Drain.
Regardless of how I feel about knockback, I have to disagree with you about putting in a system that alters the function of player powers at another player's discretion. I choose my power sets and powers based on what they do. My choices in slotting my powers are based on what those powers do. No one should have the ability to alter my powers but me. -
Quote:I'd have to say its an error. If a new person who has never played CoX before buys the game today, then purchases a years worth of play time, they are NOT a one year vet, and will not get one years worth of Vet rewards. You sure about that Leech?
It actually says "paid" time. Well, that's what it said the last time I looked.
*EDIT: Yeah, from the latest announcement here:
Tier One: City of Heroes Veterans with 60+ months of paid time. (bolded by me)
Vets are considered as those who have subscription time behind them (used up) not ahead of them (prepaid but not used time.)
It is entirely possible they might have decided that prepaid time counts for this specific situation, but it would be a first as far as I know. -
I don't bother speculating what the devs may or may not do, there's just nothing useful in doing so. Cuz until the devs specifically say what they are gonna do, all you have is speculation.
-
I just wanted to post a friendly pat on the back to the devs.
Super Side Kicking… in my opinion, it’s the single greatest innovation to the game I’ve ever seen.
Being able to keep up to 5 levels of your powers when you get X’d down, getting full xp regardless of your X down, not being concerned if you have enough high levels to SK up the low levels, its all truly great stuff!
Nice work! -
Quote:It's not like there is a policy or formula on the length of time it takes to fix a mac or even a PC issue. If they take 3 months to fix this particular issue one cannot reasonably conclude it takes the dev's 3 months to fix all mac issues.I hope they find a fix for this for you guys soon. I'm purchasing a Mac sometime early next year for the sole purpose of playing CoH on the road. I have to pay more attention to how long mac issues take to get resolved.
On the subject of the post topic name though, I think the devs do care, now the Defender inherent... that's another story...
Each issue is different and there are many factors as to how long it takes to fix them. Some issues are easy to fix, some issues are diffucult, and some are extremely complicated and take years.
Like the ATI mouse cursor issue when managing enhancements on PCs. This bug may not necessarily show up on all ATI cards, but for many of us it does. (This is the bug where when you are in the enhancement management screen and you move yer cursor down to your enhancements inventory your cursor suddenly shifts and the actual cursor focus is about an inch and a half down and to the left of where the cursor appears. )That one is years old and it would seem is considerably elusive in its remedy. Yet, some issues are fixed within weeks.
(Keep in mind the ATI mouse cursor issue does not render the game unplayable, so you can relax and not go nuclear in fear that the mac cursor issue will go years un-resolved. I'm sure the dev's would recode from the ground up the mac mouse interface before they let the game go unplayable for years.) -
Quote:The "creators of this game" didn't, if they had, then it wouldn't be "Un-official." The Devs are not involved in the experience your friend had that evening. My question is when did the creators of this game make the server I was on an Un-official gay server?
Quote:And why are there groups of people telling others that if they are not "like minded", if you will, that they should move onto another server?
Why do you think its allowed? Do you think that the dev's or GMs are listening in on every single conversation that is occuring on every server? Cuz they are not. Most crap has to be reported before anything is done about it, and even then, the Dev's and or GMs do not make public what actions they took.
One last thing, I don't think it breaks any rules to tell someone to play on another server. Making a racist/sexist slur against someone does break some rules though. -

Mid's hero designer official website
I haven't fiddled with this stuff for ages, and I noticed when I reinstalled the program it says "Last update: December 2008"...
Does anyone know if it is still being updated or what? has anyone made like an import thing with the new PVP enhancement sets and any changes between issue 13-15?
But you'll have to be patient. Mid's moved on and no longer continues to work on the hero planner. However, before leaving, Mid's passed the torch to someone else who is currently updating it. I understand Steiner is very close to releasing an update. -
When you log in to the boards... click on 'ENGLISH' at the top left of the screen. The forum layout you get from that is the same layout that was use on the old boards.

Under the Mission Parameters (page 1 in that little book icon) there is a Minimum Setting, and a Maximum Setting option. Set both to 54 and that should do it.
You'll have level 54s regardless of your Mission Difficulty. -
Sorry, MrVacant.
The design of the game included prohibiting the making of bots. So the Devs decided that when it comes to binding and macros, you cannot activate two powers in one single keystroke or mouse click. -
Quote:I tend to stick with just one server. I started on and for 4 years played on Pinnacle. But the population was too low for my taste. So I migrated to Infinity around October of last year. At the time it was the 3rd most populated server. My computer is kinda old, so I chose to not go with the top two most populated servers because of lag reasons.I'm curious, how many servers do you play on regularly? I don't mean the ones you have an alt on you might touch once per month. Say, once a week on the outside. How many servers, eh?
I play on Freedom for the most part, but I'm going to start playing on Pinnacle again soon, maybe a different server if I can find a group of people that like to play around noon EST.
Because I chose to build my own SG and VG (I have two accounts so I can invite my own alts to them easily enough) it took a while to make enuff Prestige to get the things I want. (Storage, porters) So I have too much invested on Infinity to switch to a different server. -
Quote:Well, I can't argue against that!
Thanks ADH! -

True. But so what?
Perception = reality. The perception is that when you attempt to build a pick up team for AE, or join one, most of the team tends to want to farm, and most farms are boss farms. True this is not always the case, and no one is disputing that. It is the norm and an overwhelming norm. Rare are those AE players, and teams that are not expecting or anticipating farms.
Many are the ones on the boards who will say "I have no problem getting on, or making teams" but I wonder if the circumstances are the same. Aside from friends and SG mates, building teams, especially red side, has become much more difficult for someone who wants to run regular content. But, if what you want to do is PL in AE... building teams is much much easier. People beg to get on teams there. -

I'm pretty certain its only the WarWolves. And not just cuz the Wiki says so, but when I've hunted for this badge, I've only noted progress on the progress bar when WarWolves were killed. -
Quote:You simply look at the mission list. Any missions that you and your teammates have will have a level number next to it, and the difficulty indicator. Then its a matter of learning what your team can handle. Take note of the level of mission your setting, and its difficulty. Try it out, see how the team handles it. Adjust as needed.See, I feel that this is going to be a silly question, but I'll ask anyway.
After invites go out and the team comes together, how does the group leader select missions that go along with the level of people within the group? eg: selecting mission(s) in the sewers.
As in the case lastnight, I didnt want to start inviting people and then lead them into a mission where we all get wiped out inside of 20 seconds.
Keep in mind the level your teammates are. Example, you and another are level 17, you recruit 6 level 14s and do not SK/LK any of them up. Doing a level 17 mission on difficulty 1 will be very challenging. Most of your team will be under par. Team Wipes are likely. Doing a lvl 14 on difficulty 5, will give you foes around 16 maybe some 17s. This is survivable. But will be less xp for the lvl 17s on team.
Don't be timid about selecting missions. Communicate with your team. Ask your team if there is a specific mission they want to do. In most cases, they wont care, if there's xp in it, its all good.
