GR Vet question

Will they use your "Total Paid Time" or your "Veteran Rewards Time" to calculate who gets to be in the GR Beta? And off topic but just curious, do you think they will ever offer one of those "Lifetime Sub" deals ever?

Cool.

I wonder why? I guess you do kinda loose money in the long run with these. But I know I'd probably get one. I have 2 accounts now, but I would definately make one a lifetime if I could.

It actually says "paid" time. Well, that's what it said the last time I looked.

*EDIT: Yeah, from the latest announcement here:

Tier One: City of Heroes Veterans with 60+ months of paid time. (bolded by me)

I'd have to say its an error. If a new person who has never played CoX before buys the game today, then purchases a years worth of play time, they are NOT a one year vet, and will not get one years worth of Vet rewards.

Vets are considered as those who have subscription time behind them (used up) not ahead of them (prepaid but not used time.)

It is entirely possible they might have decided that prepaid time counts for this specific situation, but it would be a first as far as I know.

On a few occasions I've paid for 3 months at a time, and I've never been instantly awarded a vet badge.

The screen will tell you when you get it. It'll say something about your account being playable through February, and you get your next vet badge in January.

No. The game's not new and needing a rapid infusion of quick cash to get off the ground.

They ended up using a similar phrasing for CoV beta, but it was the vet reward time they went off of.

In fact... lifetime subs at this time in a games life kinda point to "We're dying, give us cash!"

This. I would cry if they came out with lifetime subs. It's one tiny step above opening the game up to free play and trying to survive on micropayments.

I'm new-ish. Again.
@Kahzi. Pinnacle, mostly.

Agreed. Lifetime subs are usually only ever offered when a game launches, although I know LOTRO still makes them available on occasion during special events. Still, that's a much newer game than CoX - and they've always had a lifetime sub option (as opposed to bolting one on well after launch). I think offering lifetime subs at this juncture would hurt the game more than it would help, given the dedicated vet subscribers.

As long as a 12+2 offer comes along once every 14 months or so, I'll be one happy camper.

Actually, Vet rewards were not around when the beta for City of Villains was in Beta. In fact. City of Villains went live in issue 6, and vet rewards went live in issue 8.

So there were no vet rewards to base invites to CoV Beta on.

I misspoke. When I said that they went off vet reward time, I meant they used the same "time" count as Vet rewards do. Namely, time paid (including retail box "free" months) and played. The CoV closed beta was in a way the first vet reward.

If the game ever went free to play I personally would play at all because when I look for a game I think that they charge us money so that they have money to improve the game. If they didn't ask for money, Goodbye great effects and good issues!

Unless it's a company with enough income from another game to afford to make a game free to play. Looking at the recent success of DDO, making a game free to play is by no means a killer or goodbye to more content.
