  1. Indeed. I was worried when I showed up right at 30 minutes beforehand and Point du Hoc had something like 8 people standing around... But they trickled in. We didn't have to exclude anybody for a change, but all 6 teams were still well-staffed and we walked away with the usual stellar haul of xp, shards, and/or VG merits.

I just figured you were throwing a party on your week off and not all of us got invited...
  2. I do think it went great, even with all of the lowbies (which I was certainly guilty of, and not even a stealthy lowbie this week, silly me). You were quite wise to suggest a regroup just before taking the center bowl. Well played!

You might consider updated your helpful hints in the first post, by the way, to mention turning off player names to reduce lag. That has been the prime tip you've given in game the past couple of weeks, but it doesn't appear to be listed here.

Thanks again for running these; they are a blast! See you next week (this time with Windfall for extra shard collection!)

On what server and play schedule, though? I know on Pinnacle, trials happen (very nearly exclusively) in the evenings, and I have heard complaints about such timing on the channels. I am very, VERY excited to be able to make any sort of progress on my 50s while playing in the mornings.

But this from the one who purposely avoids both beta server and beta forums prior to a big release like this, so what do I know?

Well I can give you my own numbers on that, for the market at least.

I started playing with the market Thanksgiving 2011. (I had run stacks of cheap salvage to the vendor to generate about 100m in capital.) I started out making 20-30 million per day. By about December 8th I was up to 50 mil. Dec. 16th I had a good day, bringing in $415m. I kept it over a hundred for the next week or so, putting my rolling average around 115m over Christmas, despite taking a break for the holiday. At the end of January I brought my average up "for real" to about 115m. And the past week I've made 200-300 million per (active) day, bringing my 10-day rolling average up to 197m as of yesterday.

(Profit, of course, is calculated as sale price minus market fees minus crafting cost minus salvage and recipe purchase prices.)

    Total profit to date: $6,164,826,707
Current sunk cost in recipes, salvage, crafting, and listing fees: $281, 265,912
Current total bid on new recipes: $435,783,790

(This is with one character, now up to 20 market slots.)

So there you go. Pocket change compared to the "real" marketeers, I know, but I think it gives a fun look at how the numbers can grow for a beginner. I've finished 4 basic level 50 builds now with the proceeds, and I have close to 2 billion stored away right now, not counting my working capital. I'm thinking about going after some purple or pvp sets next...

The trough at E really makes me wonder if this is something the Devs would find useful for planning.
I suspect the split is due primarily to "people who play the market" vs "people who don't"... But that is just based on my experience. It's also possibly a "people who play at 50" vs "people who don't", but I find it hard to believe that playing at 50 makes such a large difference very quickly, unless one also plays the market with drops...

I've also seen several redside CoP runs open to the public lately; the PinnBadges MotD currently lists CoP for Saturday at 7pm EST and UG trial for Friday at 8pm EST.

You'll find the quiet factor depends heavily on when you play. I've seen things organized in the late morning or early afternoon, but mostly PinnBadges is active roughly 7pm-12 EST, much as you'd expect...

(Of course, with the Spring Fling starting up, I imagine the usual help channel crowd will start advertising as well, trying to get the opposite faction in for the special missions...)

Now there is no difference between my account and a free account (with regards to paragon rewards). Sorry for the complaint, that is not my intention. I'm just trying to decide the best way to go forward.

Everyone here seems to believe that at the very least I should get 1 token from the Going Rogue Complete Collection. That is good enough for me. Thanks again.
You should contact support. You are supposed to have a second token after finishing your subscription with the VIP starter kit.
  10. The Going Rogue box will give you another token. But it should be your third token, not your second.

On creating a new, free game account you receive one token, completing tier 1 in your Paragon Rewards window.

On paying any money (including purchasing a VIP starter kit), you receive one token, completing tier 2 in your Paragon Rewards window and unlocking supergroups, email, tells, player-to-player trading, and more. (Note that actually placing this token also unlocks trenchcoats, which are very cool...)

I have just confirmed this behavior on my son's account, for which I purchased the VIP starter kit for 99c during the holiday sale.

Additional tokens earned may be placed on tier 3. Filling tier 3 (for a total of 5 tokens) unlocks global chat channels.

It is also worth noting that the Going Rogue retail code in particular unlocks a slew of other features: Praetorians, alignment changes, Alpha/Omega costume pieces, 4 new powersets, Praetorian/Clockwork pieces, etc. For full details, you might want to check the Going Rogue page of Paragon Wiki...

How do you get any meaningful storage out of the ridiculously low arbitrary limits?!

(Why yes, I *did* just blow 300m inf on prestige to upgrade the storage in my base, only to discover that I can't have more than 18 freaking storage bins. Are you frickin'-frackin' kidding me?! *pant* Why do you ask?)

One thing I will say: no matter how you decide to spend your money, always spend your reward tokens before you spend your points. Otherwise you may end up buying something you've already "paid for."
This. Also, note that there are other ways to get reward tokens. Every 1200 paragon points that you buy (including bonuses for large purchases, but not VIP stipends) is worth a token. Plus, you get a bonus token the first time you buy points. If you are thinking of buying other things as well (extra character slots, powersets, the alignment system, costume parts) then don't forget to account for those tokens toward your "free" controller unlock.
  13. I got most of my information through Paragon Wiki (as usual), plus announcing myself as a newbie in every iTrial I ran for quite a while... but here is a brief overview to get you started.

For your alpha slot, you can use either "shard" components or "thread" components. On the crafting tab of your incarnate powers window, you can scroll down in the recipe panel to the right to see the "thread" option. All other incarnate slots, once unlocked through iXP earned doing iTrials, require thread-based salvage to craft.

Shards drop during regular (non-incarnate) play, and some of the shard-based salvage can be acquired as special rewards at the end of task forces. Threads drop during incarnate trials (and will drop in the new Dark Astoria solo incarnate zone, when it is released in i22), and thread-based salvage is granted as special rewards for completing those trials, or in some cases for earning badges within the trials. Empyrean merits and astral merits are also granted through iTrials, and can be traded in for threads or for thread-based salvage, along with some special unlocks for your account (see vendors to the right in Ouroboros). Once your alpha powers are complete, shards may also be converted into threads for use in your other incarnate abilities. All of this trading in (with the exception of the account unlocks) happens on the convert tab of your incarnate powers window.

There are 4 tiers to each incarnate power. T1 requires 3 common salvage. T2 requires one uncommon and two common. T3 requires one rare and two common. T4 requires one very rare and two common. Crafting the T4 power also requires two (any two) rare powers, so in order to get a T4 you do something like this: T1 -> T2 -> T3, T1 -> T2 -> T3, T4.

It takes 472 shards (for alpha only) or 2,480 threads to create a T4 power, not including salvage drops for completing objectives. Obviously, most of your salvage will come from drops, but I give you these numbers to illustrate how much more effective shards are for crafting alpha powers. You'll find it is very tempting to use your precious threads to get that next alpha tier. Resist temptation!

Also, when working on your T3 and T4 alpha powers, you will find it useful to run the WST each week, as it will grant you a Rare shard-based component (Notice of the Well). Two of these, along with 32 shards, will combine to create the very rare Favor of the Well.

Note that your T3 powers for Alpha, Lore, and Destiny slots grant a level shift. This affects your combat level; with all 3 shifts, you will fight as if you are level 53 during iTrials. The alpha level shift is also applied during regular play, so getting that power to T3 should be a priority.

I think that about covers the basics. You may want to consider mapping a key to open your incarnate powers window, for convenience. Mine is /bind i toggle incarnates, as I recall.

  14. Yes. You will get to choose again - BUT only on the same server. When your VIP subscription lapses, your server slots do not revert back to global slots, they are simply available for you to choose characters on that server to unlock.
  15. If you're really sure about the solo (well, duo/trio, but still..) SG thing, then I'd love to take advantage of you - I mean, participate in this...

(Although I'll admit to maybe kinda sorta placing a few bids in the charity auction myself, so they are certainly getting something from your advertising here, at least...)

    Global Chanchan?

I see the mods found you, as they tend to. Welcome aboard; it's like a server-wide supergroup in here!
  17. I love this trial. And I love that you get the 60-thread bonus for making it through the first round of telepaths, even if you eventually fail to complete the trial.

We ran it several times tonight, based primarily on this guide. I've tried to capture our experiences on the Paragon Wiki, so you'll have to look over there for my notes. (And while you're there, fix up anything I left out or messed up; I don't claim to be perfect in the least; I'm usually the one running around lost on these things!)
  18. Oooh, great idea! Although... is it wrong that my first thought was to show up late for the open house and keep you there until RWZ is full? :P
  19. Is there a way in Mids to account for outside buffs? I am working on a build to maximize my empathy auras (the 400% recharge cap precludes perma here, but 10s downtime is close enough for my purposes). I'm down to about 125s and looking for the cheapest next step. I am planning Rikti lore pets, which should give me Adrenalin Boost, but I don't see any way to get Mids to reflect that ability. Ideas?
  20. I believe it will be extended. NCSoft has always seemed to be pretty good about that sort of thing.

But I haven't done it myself, so I can neither confirm nor deny.
  21. I'll be there for my very FIRST Hami raid - with Thyrissa, an empathy defender.
  22. You will not be able to log in to the character without first purchasing the archetype. Be careful, though, because the game WILL allow you to burn one of your server slots trying to unlock it. Watch for the extra message in the tooltip saying that the archetype (or in other cases, power set) is unavailable before using a server slot to unlock a character as a premium player.

Case study: My namesake toon is a controller, created way back when. I came on as premium when Freedom rolled and had four character slots to unlock. She was the first one I picked. Now I had three server (well, global at the time) slots, but access to NO characters without buying the controller archetype.

(Note: If you go VIP and then go back to premium, your server slots are freed to choose again. (They don't go back to global slots, but you can choose again from on your server.) It's not forever if you screw this up, but it is awfully annoying at the time.)
  23. Wow, that is a LOT of recharge, thank you! Although... It does appear that one of the Doctored Wounds recharge set bonuses is being wasted there...

Here's what I have / am working toward at the moment, incorporating comments from the above posts. I do still want to take Hasten and move a slot into Snap Shot to allow another recharge bonus from Decimation, but those adjustments will require a respec, and I'm out at the moment... In fact, I used my incarnate 3rd build to get this far, before the most recent set of comments.

I am considering the comment on recharge vs endurance for rez/CM. Really the recharge is just there for convenience of bulk casting for CM, and it seems to me that if one person dies, another is usually right behind them. After all, the first death means I'm either lost, not paying attention, or made a mistake, right? *grin* Whereas if I'm in a group large enough for these to make a dent in my endurance, then I have a big enough endurance boost from the group that I rarely run low... So anyway, I'm pondering that one...

Thanks so much for the comments so far; I really appreciate y'all taking the time to look at this for me!
