Canceling VIP The Impacts?

I'm currently a VIP subscriber, started with a free account, not sure the vip is really worth it for me personally but i have used a few of the unlocked costume pieces and made a peacebringer character if i choose to end my vip will i still be able to use my character and the other costume pieces i curently have on that character? or will he be deleted/ made unusable?

If you have not paid for it, it will 99% likely be locked out when you drop VIP. Costume pieces won't cause your character to be locked, but the next time you visit a tailor you'll have to choose non-locked pieces where there are locked pieces.

There have been bugs here and there with people retaining access to things they hadn't purchased, but those are bugs, not the norm.

Nothing is deleted; that would be a terrible way to retain customers.

Unless you bought access to the Peacebringer Archetype, yes it will be locked.

Which as a VIP...he/she can not buy. So, yes...it will be locked. Unless he/she has the points to unlock it. You cannot buy something you already have.

Right, I think what was implied that he bought the Peacebringer as a Premium, either before or after he was VIP. There's also a chance he has it on his account already, due to Paragon Rewards (I'm guessing he doesn't, but it's there nonetheless.)

Only masterminds and controllers are unlocked via the rewards system. EAT access is VIP or market purchase only.

i dont mean will i still have acces to the archtype (for creating a new character) i mean will the character im currently playing as (only have 1) be like unusable without the vip cos i havnt bought it from the market it came with vip. i reallise the questions im asking arnt really specific enough so once ive ended vip can i still play a character that ive made even if the options to create that character are locked without vip or market purchases?

You will not be able to log in to the character without first purchasing the archetype. Be careful, though, because the game WILL allow you to burn one of your server slots trying to unlock it. Watch for the extra message in the tooltip saying that the archetype (or in other cases, power set) is unavailable before using a server slot to unlock a character as a premium player.

Case study: My namesake toon is a controller, created way back when. I came on as premium when Freedom rolled and had four character slots to unlock. She was the first one I picked. Now I had three server (well, global at the time) slots, but access to NO characters without buying the controller archetype.

(Note: If you go VIP and then go back to premium, your server slots are freed to choose again. (They don't go back to global slots, but you can choose again from on your server.) It's not forever if you screw this up, but it is awfully annoying at the time.)

I'm new-ish. Again.
@Kahzi. Pinnacle, mostly.

What about praetorian characters ? do those get locked too if you cancel the VIP subscription ?
I wanna try to make a couple to see the storylines but dont want to get my hopes up to then loose them.

With the Praetorians, is it a matter of the zones being locked out. As long as your character is in Paragon City or the Rogue Isles before you go Premium, you should be okay. This assumes you have not previously purchased Going Rogue (either the boxed set or the digital products from the store). If you have purchased Going Rogue, then the Praetorian Zones (except First Ward) will be unlocked for you. First Ward is a separate "premium" zone, and requires that you either be a VIP or purchase access to the zone.

IIRDC, First ward, the zone, is free. The content requires purchase.

Just confirmed that for non-VIPs, the First Ward is a separate purchase under "Content->Zone Packs->First Ward Zone Pack"

Positron has repeatedly said that no zone will be locked to VIP-Only.

Zone contacts can be though.

That unlocks the First Ward contacts, not the zone.

Okay, gotcha. That clarifies it a bit. Would still leave pre-20 Praetorians in somewhat of a limbo though, wouldn't it? Without contacts, they can't get the mission to choose Hero or Villain and leave Praetoria. Since it's a solo-only mission, they also wouldn't be able to piggy back and ride out with someone else. Although, if someone knows they gonna go premium, it's rather easy to hit 20 and leave Praetoria relatively quickly.

We're talking about FIRST WARD.
Any "pre-20 Praetorian" can't get missions there ANYWAY, since First Ward starts at level 20. Furthermore, the mission to choose Hero or Villain is in the original Praetorian zones, NOT First Ward.

If the VIP account starts a character in Praetoria, and then lapses to Premium without purchasing Praetoria locks those characters until the premium account applies a Going Rogue Retail code or "Create a Praetorian" to the account. Either of those will allow you to get the "Leaving Praetoria" mission.

Existing heroes, villains, or praetorians that have left Praetoria can still go to all of the Praetorian zones whether or not they have "Create a Praetorian" or Going Rogue attached to their account.
