Why Build a Base?
1. Maintenance is trivial.
2. Hazard zones are not linked up to the transportation hub. On speed Manticores, e.g., it's great to use the Base Transporter to leave an instance and hop to Crey's for the street sweep (can't use Mission TP for that).
3. Storage of Rare IOs and salvage.
4. Run the Cathedral of Pain trial.
5. You don't get logged out AFKing in a base.
6. Another way to use the Flashback Crystal.

So...why should a Group spent the inf/prestige on maintaining one?

Admittedly there are fewer reasons to run a base these days, given the many ways we have to get about and the changes to email, but they are still fun and cool.

I use my base as a personal University/Bank. It's nice to have a crafting table, vault, and storage bins all close together when I'm making IO's. Also having salvage in the bins saves me from having to log in and out a lot looking for which alt has this salvage.
Now if we can just store recipes in our base....

As others have said - mostly storage.
The teleporters are still nice to have, I use mine a fair amount still.
I use mine for storage/university, teleport are also usefull.
But the main reason is because it's fun.

Slightly off topic, but given bases are effectively a VIP feature (yea yeah, preems can be invited), one would hope that they will get more attention, just to further the cause for subscribing....

One Sg will defend there sg form another sg I admit it was fun and found none pvp players liking it as well.
Other then that, base's can be use for rping, a great hang out spot, Storing Items and great place to transport to zone to zone with base portal's.

(Why yes, I *did* just blow 300m inf on prestige to upgrade the storage in my base, only to discover that I can't have more than 18 freaking storage bins. Are you frickin'-frackin' kidding me?! *pant* Why do you ask?)

For storage also... and easily access Ouroboros and get the O-Port Teleporter/badge when new alts reach level 14.
But... but... 18 storage bins * 30 salvage per bin doesn't even let me store 5 of everything!

18 enhancement tables * 100 enhancements each and you don't save anything worth less than 100 million inf since it's just taking up space.

Yeah I set mine up with a buddy pretty much so we could use a crafting table. Really nice not having to head to a university, just hit up the nearest base portal, which for most city zones is near the Tram (Though, not always).
the teleporters are kind of nice too, just for the Winter Event alone it's been handy having a fast way to Pocket D.
