  1. I recall Anand doing a test on PhysX and CoH. He found that while adding a PhysX card can improve performance the same level as going from a single-core to a dual-core, this was only true on the Very High setting, which was indistinguishable from the much less demanding High setting.

In short, it ain't worth worrying about.

Both companies tend towards alternate frame rendering these days.

Sadly, if an OpenGL game doesn't have a Catalyst AI profile, it's impossible to use AFR on it; instead, it will default to scissor. If it's Direct 3D, you can force what you like. At least, that was true a year ago, I haven't kept up on Catalyst development. What I do know is that SLI and CrossFire seem very well matched, with both working the best on an i7 platform.

Or, y'know... he could get Win 7 drivers.
  3. Judging by your processor, a Core 2 Duo T6600, you have a laptop. This is your problem. Laptop manufacturers like to have full control over their laptops (that'd be Dell, Acer, HP, Sony, whoever made yours) so they deny regular nVidia drivers from installing.

    But you aren't finished yet!

Naturally, you aren't the only one with an nVidia laptop who wants to play games. Go to LaptopVideo2Go to get drivers that will work on your PC.

In reality, all nVidia drivers will work with any GeForce. But every driver has a list of supported cards. If your card ain't on the list, it ain't installing; laptop cards are never on the list. But it's dead simple to add your card to this list, and this is what LaptopVideo2Go do.

Thats the reason I moved the idea into the suggestion as a seperate idea.

What I meant is that the tech that switches animation is made for other powers. Just not for the travel powers. Ofcourse this needs changes in the travel powers and the way to access them. Not unlike the ones made for the normal power customisation.

That is just what I meant here... That should be done. From there the game can grow more easily (in travel powers at least).
I know, dude. Sorry if I came off as harsh.
  8. I fear that Downloading File Manifest problems may be due to your ISP. When I switched from Demon to Be, all issues I had completely disappeared, and file manifests download faster than I can read. All I can tell you is, give it time.

You could also try changing the port CoH uses, but I don't know how you would do that.

It's worth using the NCSoft diagnosis tool jobby to test out your internet, too.
  9. You have ears... but you do not listen. (Sorry, had a bit of the greatest story ever told there.)

Movement modes are not the same as powers.
We don't have the tech to make one movement power have multiple, customisable animations. Walk, sprint, prestige sprint, prestige slide, superspeed, ninja run... they cannot be customised yet. Maybe in the future, but not now, and not until the work is put in to support it.

Disclaimer: I don't care one way or another about "Walk." I'm just curious
When they were first introduced, fly poses were randomly selected. This is because there was not, and still is not, any way for flight animations (or any travel power animations) to be customised per-player. It has to be one version of Fly and one animation of Fly for everyone, until Paragon make the necessary code to get that working.

As for emotes that allow you to change running animations, I don't think this is the way the devs want to do it.

I sure didn't want all those powers cluttering up my Manage Enhancements screen,
but there they stay, forever, if you accept them.

Now I get NR and Walk, two more powers cluttering up the Manage Enhancements real estate.
    For no reason...

If I cannot enhance them, they should not take up that space.

    .
I don't really find the space they take up to be annoying.

  13. I'm pretty amazed you can cram a full-sized card in there. Shuttle must employ magicians.
  14. The power supply is the least of your worries. I doubt a 280 will even fit!

A friend of mine put together a 'shuttle' PC using an Antec Lanbox. This is the same shape as a Shuttle, but a fair bit wider and taller. Even with that, cramming in a full-size 8800GTX was dicey.
  15. It helps if you know what HDMI is; that being, it's DVI. Quite literally. Oh sure, DVI has extra pins for extra stuff (like VGA passthrough and a second set of links for really high resolutions) but they're electronically identical. A DVI to HDMI adaptor just re-routes some wires to make everything fit.

When the people who make TV cables came to draw up HDMI, they used DVI as a basis for it. They took out the VGA analog bits, removed the second set of links, made the cable thinner, designed a plug that could be blindly inserted (for when you fumble around behind the TV), and added copy protection to it.

Just remember, don't try to go VGA > DVI > HDMI, as I heard someone once did. DVI has separate cables for analog VGA and digital DVI/HDMI picture. This doesn't apply when you use a graphics card with a built-in DVI output, but it does mean you can't set up a bunch of adaptors for an older VGA graphics card. Analog doesn't magically turn into digital.

tl;dr, get a HDMI cable, DVI adaptor, HDMI adaptor or whatever. Your HDTV will work with it.

I hear you, man. I suppose this is one of the hurdles that pool power customisation faces, because whether we like to admit it or not, customised travel powers are on the forefront of everyone's mind.

I'm sure Paragon's Type-R code monkeys will think of something. Eventually.

You know what he meant. Multiple walk powers with separate animations. Which ain't likely; more duplication of work is more worser...er.

I wouldn't be opposed, say, to making a CoV-side mission "burn down building in Steel Canyon" that literally sent you to a hero-side Steel Canyon instance and had you initiate one of SC's building arson events (which then the heros would have to react to). That sort of thing is something that I think there are lots of opportunities to do that would be considered overall improvements to CoX gameplay.

Going further on the concept, there could be a post-mission ambush of police that try to 'arrest' you. 'Course, that's a whole new can of worms; even assuming that NPCs are able to distinguish between hero/vigilante/rogue/villain, there would be a chance of innocent vigilantes or rogues being caught in the cross-fire.

Also, there's the issue that only GR subscribers will be able to take advantage of this content, so until GR is old enough that it's merged with CoH/CoV (as CoV was with CoH) I wouldn't count on seeing much of this.

    But I want it.

This has been discussed a lot. Let me put the cycle down as a redname has said it, and put this argument to rest.

    Hero ---> Vigilante ---> Villain
    Villain --> Rogue -----> Hero

Vigilante's and Rogues are intermediate stages between Hero and Villain. If you put the work in, you can go Hero > Vigilante > Villain > Rogue > Hero.

As a vigilante, you only have access to the Consignment House. As a Rogue, you can only use the Black Market. It isn't until you fully switch that you get access to the other economy. Whether or not you can bring items / money with you is up for debate.

Vigilantes and Rogues have access to both zones. A vigilante can go to Cap au Diable, do some newspaper missions, experience the content there. Likewise a Rogue can go to Talos Island and meet contacts there.

PvP zones are an odd one. We haven't got any official word about how vigilantes and rogues will interact with zones like Siren's Call.

Finally, Praetoria is a co-op land. Heroes, vigilantes, villains, and rogues can all team up and do Praetoria stuff.
  20. You have my vote for more futuristic weapons.

These last ones would be awesome. Pistils with glowmaps... very shiny.

Also, a pistol companion to the Vanguard Redding Rifle wouldn't go amiss.

To the test server, Batman! (flees)

EDIT: Ah yes, so I can stop myself doing arms-akimbo. Still, the animation is hardly to the standard of newer stuff. I don't like how the legs are completely set in stone on either of them. What I end up doing is using Eat, Drink, or the MA pad if I'm idling around atlas; those idle animations are actually animations, as you shift your weight around, moving with your whole body. It's very subtle, but as BaBs knows, it's the difference between a bunch of polygons and an animated character.

Plus, like flyposes, it's a manual emote that dies whenever you move.

    Man, how anal am I?

    That is WAI right now.
Yeah, a sad side-effect of how everything works, to my knowledge. I've got the ability to superspeed-leap about twenty meters sideways just as I snipe. In my (really, very uninformed) opinion, it's because movement client-side is one second ahead of movement server-side, while powers are perfectly in sync (assuming good innernets).

I gotta ask. If this were a 5 year long closed beta, you had no obligation to your players to not horribly change core mechanics, and you had limitless resources, would you change this?

  25. I only just now tried out Walk on the test server.

BaBs, I salute you. Men walk like men, huge guys walk with bulk, and women actually manage to sway their hips with sass.

It's kinda bittersweet though. Every time you stop walking, you do the regular idle animation; repeating the Green Cross Code and crossing your arms. I'd dearly like a new idle animation, but as every other transition in the game takes cues from it, I imagine that's probably the most impractical and irrelevant suggestion ever made.
