Attention Heroes and Villains!

Tomorrow, (November 18th, 2009) we are going to host another public test of our 2009 Winter Event on the North American Training Room. As with the recent Halloween Event, the Winter Event has been updated!! If you would like to check the event out, please join us on the North American Training Room tomorrow at 4:00 PM Pacific / 7:00 PM Eastern. The public test will last until 8:00 PM Pacific / 11:00 PM Eastern.

There will be a Global Chat channel called “Winter 2009” for ease of communication.

Based upon feedback received from the first Winter Event test last week on November 12th, we have made the following changes:

  • Lord Winter’s resistances have been equalized
  • Added a countdown timer to the User Interface while within Lord Winter’s Realm
  • Increased the number of Winter Horde Frostlings that must be defeated to open the portal to Lord Winter’s Realm
  • Frostlings spawned from a present will aggro correctly again
  • Increased the Merit Rewards for defeating Lord Winter
  • Completing Father Time's mission will once again give the choice of selecting 5 Candy Canes

I like the last two changes, third one maybe not. Guess we'll see.

Oh this will be nice; I can actually get home in time to play.

Hello, my name is @Caligdoiel and I'm an altoholic.

I think I'll be there again. The character copy tool didn't run in time for me to bring any lower level characters or any heroes, but I'm leaning towards showing up in Cap au Diable with my level 30 brute, just to get a taste for how this feels on a lower level character. If we can't put together at least two teams of six, redside, though, I'll move over to a hero-side character.

Wait, what? I thought that the portal was spawned any time we defeated a Winter Lord, and the Winter Lord was spawned just by clicking Mysterious Gifts with a team of 4 or more? Do we actually have to fight the Frostlings to summon a Winter Lord, or do not all Winter Lords drop portals?

(I'm also dying to know what [Ninja Run] does for my ski slope times.)

Unfortunately, the timing of running the November 18th Winter Event from 4PM-8PM Pacific / 7PM-11PM Eastern doesn't sync up with an optimal EU window. (Note: We want all tests to be performed simultaneously so as not to affect feedback.)

Additionally, we also looked at the number of EU players that logged in for the 2009 Halloween Event Test on the EU Training Room, and based upon the level of participation then, it was decided to focus this on the North American Training Room.

Both of the items above were the determining factors.

I thought the same, BUT... When we click the gift to go fight Lord Winter, there is 2 portals on that map. One is called Magic Portal that will make you exit the map back to Paragon City or Rogue Isles... and the second portal is called Lord Winter's Domain. You can't enter when you click it, it was giving a "tramway" screen. Maybe this portal is useable when a number of frostlings are defeated on the map?

Ai yai yai. The team I was on didn't defeat Lord Winter, so we had no time to explore the map. I hope somebody takes in at least three teams, then, so they can defeat him long before the timer and then start in on clearing the surrounding map, just to be able to report back what happens.

I heard conflicting reports as to whether or not the Winter Horde mobs around Lord Winter drop candy canes; could this be why? Did one group get into Lord Winter's Domain and harvest candy canes that can't be harvested on the first map? Needs testing. Needs testing badly.

If that is how this works, that will be the second consecutive holiday event that had a completely undocumented game mechanic. So I hope that if that is how it works, it either makes it into something that one of the ski chalet NPCs tells you, or that it makes it into the /gmotd, or it makes it into the patch notes when it goes live. Ideally all of the above. Let's not have a repeat of the screaming matches we had during the Deadly Apocalypse, please and thank you.

I suppose it possible, but I would guess the portal is there in case large numbers of players create multiple instances and need to switch between them, much like the Arachnos Flier in Fort Darwin.

You have to remember that EU players weren't able to go on Test Server for Halloween Event Test 2009 until much later on in comparison to US players, and it was also mentioned that it may only be temporary (which it wasn't, but still, there was a warning), so many people may not have bothered, and chose to just wait until it went live.

Bah, missed out on all but the first of the 2009 Halloween Event test runs on the EU test server. Don't usually check the forums until after I've logged off the game for the night so was never aware of the other ones until after they'd already ended.

Same. It's hard to play test while I am at work.

Meh, the day after I'm home sick

At least I'll be getting off of work at 5pm, so I should have enough time to catch the last half of the window.

the new event I feel is pretty well balanced and is basically ready for live imho. I only found two things that I would like to touch upon...

1. BUG this is a known bug any way so is rather besides the point. after being kicked out of the new Lord Winter realm (time runs out, not exiting on my own) after the zone loads that I came from originally I am imediatly dropped a long ways outside of the map. the zone itself is not visible but using way points it can be oriented upon. after traveling to the nearest way point the city remains invisible. /stuck fixes it.

2. aesthetics: when Lord Winter phases (at least on low graphic settings on my craptop) everything gets greyed out. the guy is made of snow. he has snow powers, it shouldnt be a grey snow storm. just looks real ugly. even yellow snow storm would make allot more sense than a grey out.

other than those two things, I say LET IT SNOW!
and to that end, can we get a version of the zones that is snowy? it is a winter event after all and its not in florida or arizona. even if its a new zone thats snowy all year round (permanently, not pocket D/ why does croatoa always get the snowmen?)

from my understanding the second portal "Lord Winter's Domain" is a way to go to different instances if there are multiple ones.

Well you had royally ticked off europeans when it comes to testing and to add, some of the feedback goes nowhere as so much still makes it to live. This is from what I can gather.

If I had a say I would suggest that you do a GR european test and announce that it's on, on the live server to get people onto it.
