The BSF is quite fun. Did you run it with a PuG? The SF seems to be dependent on a good team. As long as there's 2-3 capable debuffers, it shouldn't be a problem.
If you're on Freedom or Virtue, I'd be glad to run one tonight if you'd like to give it another go. -
I went to the bookstore and saw Huckleberry Finn on the shelf. But since the cover looked like it had been gnawed on by several starving infants, I left it there and walked angrily out of the store.
-
I've done 2 elec/elec/elec blasters to 50 and it was tons of fun both times.
The damage aura is a definite must have. Since most of the secondary is melee, the extra ticks of damage help kill things faster. Slotting it with 3 end reducers, the Obliteration and Positron procs make it shine.
Between the patron resist shields and Tough, you can get about a 47% S/L resist and blap with the best of them. I personally would like the resist rather than trying to fight an interrupt for Aid Self. -
Hmm, wouldn't HeroStats also give this as one of the many details it reports on?
At least I thought it may have, but I could be wrong. -
I've done every primary tons of times, just not Ice Control and I'm really trying. I've been pretty happy with Electric Manipulation in the past, so I'm pretty certain on what I want from that set. Here's what I came up with so far, feel free to make changes. I'm just trying to get a rough idea for PvE content. Thanks.

Freedom at 8:48am? No wonder why it's dead. People have school/work at that time of day.

Someone opened another can of worms. Will someone please think about the children!!??!
Kidding aside, if you check in Hirsh's thread about /earth AV SOLO killer, his Ice/Earth took over Luminary with relative ease but it took a long time - about 17 minutes.
Folks LOVE to poo-poo Gravity a lot here. Sure, Gravity has it's faults (long animations, no real hard control, wonky targetting on Wormhole) but it is a fun set. The pet is arguably the most durable out of all the control-type pets and Gravity's immobilize will not affect another dom's -KB powers like Ice Slick or Earthquake, so you won't be getting many >.> when using it.
Ice has some faults too (immob negates Ice Slick, AoE sleep not really good on teams, pet isn't the smartest). But, the single-target hold animates relatively fast, Arctic Air works wonders with a the right procs in it and you can cast Ice Slick out of LoS, so it's a good alpha sponge.
The Earth secondary is the most fun I've had on a Dominator. SMASH SMASH SMASH! Also know it's pretty single-targetty, so with the soft controls of both Gravity and Ice, it may seem a little lacking. The good thing is that Seismic Smash's hold component stacks with your primary holds for extra control. Plus, Seismic is the biggest single-target damager from all of the Dom's secondaries - the title was previously held by Blaze. According to Mid's, Seismic has a base of 207.9 smashing damage and Blaze give 102.5 plus x5 ticks of 9.51 fire damage=168 total. I may have misunderstood those numbers, but that's what it looked like to me.
That's my opinion, I'm sure there will be other to help further confuse you. -
Cold Mastery's Frozen Armor gives 10.5% Def and 21% Resist according to Mids, so that may be another good choice.
I'm just giving that as a suggestion, but I'm sure someone superior will dump all over it. -
Pretty sweet. After 54 months on Freedom, I can finally move my favorites off to another server.

Quote:Snark aside, it's all personal preference. Slotted properly with Charged Armor and Tough, it will give you about 47% S/L resist plus a 30.5% resist to NRG. Taking Punch or Kick might seem like a wasted pick to some, but they make for handy IO mules. If you didn't want the minimal defense (5.55% slotted) and immob resist in Weave, you could always pick up Shocking Bolt and skip on VS for Tesla Cage in the build I posted - that way you'd have 2 holds AND a descent resist.*snicker*
Oh, you're serious!
No. Just... no.
Tesla Cage, Shocking Bolt, and/or Shocking Grasp are worth the entire Fighting Power Pool combined. Stackable holds make bosses (and some Elite Bosses) completely irrelevant, whereas the Fighting Power Pool only grants a very modest damage offset that's hardly worth the wasted power (Kick or Punch) to get it. -
Feh, she's only level 50 and you used your pets.
CHEATER! -
So you're going to skip Lightning Field but keep Short Circuit, a PBAoE power? Plus most of the secondary is melee, so why not take the extra ticks of damage? It's not bad slotted with 3 end redux.
And skipping Thunderstrike? That's the best melee power in the /elec set.
Lightning Field+Ball Lightning+Short Circuit+TS to clean up.
Tesla, Shocking Bolt and EM Pulse is overkill - you shouldn't need 3 holds on a Blaster to survive. Skip out on the 3 holds and take the Fighting pool to increase your survivability.
Here's my suggestion. If you feel you need a hold, swap out VS for Tesla Cage:
01: Charged Bolts => Empty(1)
01: Electric Fence => Empty(1)
02: Lightning Bolt => Empty(2)
04: Ball Lightning => Empty(4)
06: Hasten => Empty(6)
08: Short Circuit => Empty(8)
10: Havoc Punch => Empty(10)
12: Aim => Empty(12)
14: Super Speed => Empty(14)
16: Hurdle => Empty(16)
18: Health => Empty(18)
20: Stamina => Empty(20)
22: Build Up => Empty(22)
24: Lightning Field => Empty(24)
26: Voltaic Sentinel => Empty(26)
28: Thunder Strike => Empty(28)
30: Combat Jumping => Empty(30)
32: Thunderous Blast => Empty(32)
35: Power Sink => Empty(35)
38: Kick => Empty(38)
41: Static Discharge => Empty(41)
44: Charged Armor => Empty(44)
47: Tough => Empty(47)
49: Weave => Empty(49) -
Home Premium should do the job. Professional doesn't really add any value for a typical home user. I'd also suggest installing the 64 bit version since you most likely have 64 bit processors in both machines.
Amazon has a family 3 pack available for $270, which is $90/per install instead of the single $119/per for the retail upgrade. I'm sure you have a friend or family member that could use the 3rd upgrade to also help offset the cost to you.

Quote:So with more people moving blue side that will need IOs, Wentworth's will surely be as plentiful as it is now.
I will be moving nearly all my villains heroside, for one reason only. Wentworth's is much better supplied than the BM. I'm tired of trying to buy IO's, only to find none available, and last sale dates that are weeks old.
You could always craft what you need, rather than hoping the market has it for you. -
My 54 month was a week late. I sent a petition in and 2 days later I miraculously had the reward - without any knowledge that it was fixed. But hey, at least I got it.

6 slot with Kinetic Crash. You get 4 KB protection and a 7.5% recharge bonus.

Seriously? That's the best flame you could do?
Better luck next time. -
This brings back memories of the Aion forums. *shudders*

Quote:I'd like to know how Gravity's AoE hold is the only one with a "looong recharge timer" of 240s base? According to Mid's, ALL of the AoE holds are exactly the same recharge. Sure, Dimensional Shift is the lvl 18 power, but it could come in handy with soloing. I've done Gravity to 50 twice and it was a blast both times.I disagree on Gravity being "Up there in terms of safety" as it take 18 levels to get an AoE hold on a looong recharge timer,
I'm obviously NOT a fan of Ice. Ice is a one-trick pony with Ice Slick. And forget about that when you team with a PuG dom who lovingly spams their AoE immob, negating your Ice Slick - well, except the rare Gravity dom... The rest of Ice is pretty much skippable. Arctic Air is an end hog and it's confuse component is shoddy at best - even 3 slotted. Jack Frost is substandard compared to the Singularity or even Poo Man. The only valid complaints that can be made about Gravity are Dimensional Shift and the ridiculous animation of Propel.
The best team and solo friendly set is Plant. It gives the safety of Seeds that you'll need solo and it works well on teams. The only real skippable powers in Plant are the Spirit Tree and possibly Roots. Fire, Earth and Mind are also very team friendly, however they seem to come into their own at later levels. So I'd say team/solo friendly:
1. Plant
2. Mind
3. Fire/Earth/Gravity
4. Ice
As for secondaries, you really can't go wrong with any of them, although Earth is the new shiny. If you do choose Mind or Gravity, they can be a little single-targetty at lower levels, so you may want to pair it with an AoE type secondary like Fire, Psi or Thorns.
Just note that this is my opinion, so feel free to take what you will from it. -
Just like in retail stores, the Halloween and Christmas (or "Holidays" for the P.C. people) are touching!
-
It seems you're leaning toward the melee sets, so I'll suggest Earth/Thorn as a pretty unique. The -def in Earth plus the Toxic damage in /Thorn should make a good combo.
/Earth makes you feel very SMASHY and compliments the Earth primary very well. There may be some haters for Mud Pots, but I found it you slot a Scirocco's Chance for Lethal, Eradication Chance for Energy and an Obliteration Chance for Smashing that it really buffs up the power. Even though it has a pathetic 8 foot radius (I feel it should be 12 feet), you'll hardly notice since most of the set has you in melee range anyway. -
Electric blast is OK damage, nothing great or nothing bad. If you pair it with electric secondary, it gets a whole lot better. I'm actually thinking of doing another elec/elec since the first one was so much fun to play.
-
Quote:Ha, what loser would pick gravity?I have it on my ice/earth. I play in melee the whole time. It does extra damage. It pairs with AA's slow. So it has value to that build and style.
Does it help the grav/earth who's playing at range? No. Maybe if you wormhole targets right onto yourself it could have some value.
I have mudpots on my plant/earth and it so much nicer. Stand in the creeper patch, Tremor+Fissure and finish up with a Seismic. -
I still love CoH. It's fun whether you're level 1 or 50. I actually just cancelled my Aion account because it was too much like that "World" game for my tastes. There was also the stupid restrict flight for players when the game is based on flight.
One of my friends saw me playing CoH and asked "so does your superspeed ever run out?". Ha.
