Mud Pots
It would have been nice if a few more people spoke up when /earth was announced instead of falling all over themselves to kiss dev ***.

That being said, looking back at the forums there were a couple of nice things said about Mud Pots, but one of those was a comment about it being an IO proc mule. The other one was profoundly ignorant because it referred to Power Boost as being a "unique" contribution to Doms and was praising its effect on the primary. As far as self-buffs for Doms, I don't believe there is one that's less unique.
And strangely, not a single complaint that I could see about the reduction in radius ...
Has anyone got anything good to say about Mud Pots?
On paper it looks like irredeemable trash. |
Does it help the grav/earth who's playing at range? No. Maybe if you wormhole targets right onto yourself it could have some value.
Please buff Ice Control.
I personally wouldn't take it. The tiny radius doesn't help, but moreso the fact that for it to do any appreciable damage, you not only have to be in melee, you have to be in *sustained* melee, and with lots of enemies. Doms melee, yes, but rather like a blapper, I've found that I don't tend to *remain* in melee with any one foe for very long. I jump in long enough to beat down a foe, and then I'm off to the next. For my playstyle, anyway, I don't see mud pots doing very much.
I could perhaps see mud pots working on an ice/, to stack on top of AA, but even then I'm not sure how well it'd work given that AA tends to make mobs wander away from you. I suppose it might also work on a plant/, since seeds encourages mobs to clump and makes meleeing much less dangerous. But really, I would most likely skip it on any set - I don't really see it doing enough in any case to justify the power pick, slots, end cost, and effort. But that's ok with me, every power set needs a skippable power or two anyway.

This is what it means to be a tank!
heh in the case of /earth is it more like 4 skippable powers, but unfortunately you have no choice but to take stone spear(s).
I'd take mudpots on a plant and that is it. Dom's tend to incapacitate foes in a much wider area than tiny mudpots supports because all of their aoes are very large. Also because doms incapacitate early rather than continually clumping enemies like a tank/brute such a tiny aura is just counterproductive.
If it was like lightning field is for blasters it would be great and nearly redeem the entire set as far as I'm concerned.
If you like mud and use it all the power too you, I wouldn't say it is as bad as dim shift in pve, but interestingly enough I'd take dimshift before mudpots on a grav/earth haha.
I have it on my ice/earth. I play in melee the whole time. It does extra damage. It pairs with AA's slow. So it has value to that build and style.

I have mudpots on my plant/earth and it so much nicer. Stand in the creeper patch, Tremor+Fissure and finish up with a Seismic.
I have a question about this power. Does it autohit? I ask because it doesn't report hit rolls in the combat window. Just damage. Everything else shows hit roll, but with Mud Pots all I get is:
Mud Pots deal 25.23 points of fire damage to Luddite Friar.
Mud Pots deal 25.23 points of fire damage to Luddite Friar.
Mud Pots deal 25.23 points of fire damage to Luddite Friar.
Mud Pots deal 25.23 points of fire damage to Luddite Friar.

My Dom's a Plant/Earth. The tiny radius on it kind of sucks (especially when Hot Feet is so large), but I'm also curious what I need to do to slot it at the moment.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.
