  1. Remove all versions of the game, then use the official CoH updater to install one version. Then don't link it to Steam.
  2. I have a regular group I team with. Whenever one particular person is on, he gets a purple drop every single time.

Obviously, the devs are particular to ginger Canadians.
  3. I wouldn't say World of Confusion is totally worthless. Combine with Arctic Air in Ice Control, it's a double PBAoE confuse.

    However, Ice Control is worthless.
  4. Both ATI and Nvidia cards have their pros and cons. I personally run an ATI 5770 1GB with all of the Ultra Mode bells and whistles on with only one hitch - Occlusion. For whatever reason, that setting doesn't work with the 8X FSAA.

If you really want an Nvidia card and a pretty sweet gaming laptop, this beast is coming out soon:

Whaaaaa? I got a 1GB HD5770 for $179. Canada is a rip! Maybe have a US friend buy and ship to you and save a $100 bucks?
  6. Before you give up, did you try loading into safe mode?
  7. The Apple Airport Extreme is the best wireless router out there - bar none. I went through horrible connection problems with various Netgears and Ciscos where I would be sitting, just surfing the web and I could watch the signal slowly degrade to nothing before cutting me off completely.

The Airport Extreme is a snap to set up and the dual band support rocks. There's also a USB port on it so you can share a printer between all your PCs.
  8. Uninstall and re-install the game.

This definitely isn't a Windows 7 issue and therefore, the thread title should be changed.
  9. I would think Earth/Dark would be pretty over powered. Quick Sand and a Tar Patch would not only floor the recharge of mobs, but practically neuter them with all that -def and -resist.

    Fire/Earth Help

I'm not refuting that Earth Assault gives some mitigation with knockdown, but I'm enforcing the positive of having ADDITIONAL mitigation by taking Fire Cages and pairing it with Flashfire for a ghetto hold. You're never going to have everything knocked down and Cinders isn't up quite as fast as the other 2 powers. The ghetto hold fills in for the times you're waiting for Cinders to recharge.

Not everyone slots for permadom recharge, nor did the original post mention it. I was assuming they were building a standard IO/frankeslot build and not a billion dollar baby.

    Fire/Earth Help

OMG, take the Fire Cages. Cages + Flashfire = Ghetto Hold.
  12. Ugh, Ice is the.worst.primary.ever. Seriously. You could color Earth crystals blue to look like Ice and you'll be happier. Earth is a much better set.

    What makes Ice horrid:

    1. Frostbite is a pretty useless AoE immobilize because it negates Ice Slick.
    2. Arctic Air (aka Arctic Aggro) is a an end hog. Even 3 slotted with end reducers, it still hurts. It also needs the confuse proc to make it work correctly, which no power should wait 50 levels to be useable.
    3. Shiver - a cone slow. Whoop-dee-do. Snore.
    4. Flash Freeze - targetted AoE sleep. A useless power on AoE heavy teams and the PBAoE's included in Earth Assault will negate this as well.
    5. Jack Frost - Arguably the dumbest pet. He enjoys over-aggroing entire rooms, then crumbles like a stale cookie.

The only descent powers in the set are the single target immobilize for AVs, and the single target and group holds - but all the control sets have them. Then there's Ice Slick. While a good soft control, it's function is duplicated in Earth control and the Earth counterpart is in better company with more solid controls. You'll also be gritting your teeth if another dom joins your team and spams their AoE immobs after you drop an Ice Slick.

So to summarize, 5 out of 9 powers in a set are pretty much useless, which makes Ice the bottom of the barrel when it comes to control sets.

Sure, Ice grants slows, which is a type of soft control. However, most people would like dead enemies over slo-mo ones.
  13. Don't forget Earth Assault - everyone forgets the Earth Assault .

Seismic Smash is the highest damaging attack for a Dom plus it has a Mag 3 hold which adds nicely to your primary hold powers. Tremor and Fissure also do well at PBAoE based damage and Mud Pots (slotted with procs) can actually be useable. Stone Mallet can one shot a minion and Heavy Mallet can pretty much decimate any lieutenant with ease. Power Boost is a definite win since it helps with the duration of your holds/immobs/disorients.

The only real duds of the set are Hurl Boulder since it has painfully slow activation (2.5 sec) and Stone Spears, but you're forced into those.
  14. I've done all fire/rad, ill/rad and earth/storm teams. The rad teams steamroll early with stacked AM. Storm comes into its own once everyone has Freezing Rain, then stoney just makes it laughable.
  15. I sense an all Elec/ dom theme team in the works...
  16. Have you thought of DP/MM?

Some may feel it's lacking, but I find it's pretty capable.

  17. Whew, finally someone posted that Tough/Weave should be taken. The last time I suggested that for an Elec/Elec I was practically strung up in the town square and stoned to death.

    Grav/energy help

Gravity is the only control set with an immob that does not grant -KB (TT doesn't count since it is in a blast set, not a control set ). It's the most friendly toward other doms on the team that may use powers like Ice Slick or Earthquake.

And back on topic, I'd suggest getting Whirling Hands for the AoE since it's all you'll pretty much have until patrons.
  19. But, but... I 6 slotted my credibility with Red Fortune.

Well, it's good to know that the particular Wiki page I referenced was incorrect and is being fixed.

I'm pretty sure this is incorrect. Per paragonwiki:

Set bonuses apply to the character at all times, regardless of the power into which the set is slotted.

    AND...

Set Bonuses are constant percent benefits, unaffected by the level of the enhancement or the character.

I guess that's good enough for people excited about them but unfortunately I'm not. I loved the idea of dual pistols but I really don't like the animations. I really hope demon summoning is worth it.

    Renewed

    Welcome back!

Now I might have to start playing on Freedom again.
  23. I just tossed this quickie build together. Slotting this with basic IOs (3 Resist IOs in each Tough and Charged Armor), you can get about 57% S/L resist, which should make you a little more durable.

  24. It seems pretty quiet to me, but I'm probably still in old global channels which may be filled with since-closed accounts. What are the newer ones that are fairly active to get in on TFs or find folks LFT?
