New to Doms plant or mind primary?what secondary?
Hi all came back to this great game after being gone for a long long time, I can't shake the appeal of doms so I'm gonna make a go for it.

If you haven't heard, Doms got rebalanced fairly recently; mainly, the damage boost was removed from Domination and the basic damage of the AT boosted to make up for it. So, no more alternating between doing good damage and killing things by inches. /Psi was seriously gone over; Psychic Shockwave is quite a bit weaker now, while the rest of the set is stronger. TK Thrust is a strong attack now. Energy also did well in the rebalancing, and Power Push is also a strong attack now.
Right now I think Mind looks awesomely fun and (from what I've read) is a great set. I also think that Plant looks equally entertaining, and again looks like a really solid set from what I've seen. I enjoy the control aspect of a dom a lot however I want my secondary to be synergistic and do a lot of damage. As of now this character is mostly going to be a solo toon, for PVE. So the question is secondaries. I am open to any suggestions for secondaries that would meld with Plant or Mind as a primary and do a lot of damage right now the builds I'm thinking about are: Plant/Thorn, Plant/Fiery, Plant/Psi OR Mind/Fire, Mind/Psi, Mind/Thorn.

If I was starting afresh, I'd probably go with Plant/Fire, especially if you intend to focus on PvE. Plant gets access to a ridiculously good control power at level 8, in the form of Seeds of Confusion. Once you've got yourself slotted up, and amassed some IO bonuses, SoC will be up whenever you need it and has an effect almost equivalent to Mind's tier 9...at only tier 5, with 1/4 the recharge time, no less!
Fire has the AoE required to leverage all that confusion properly and also allows you to play from range if you desire, with a solid ranged attack chain strengthened by Fiery Embrace.
Mind/ is still an option though, it has strengths in certain niche areas. Since it has a variety of control types, you'll never run afoul of NPCs that are immune to your abilities. It also has three aggro-less control powers in Confusion, Mass Hypnosis and Mass Confusion, which allow you to do interesting things in difficult situations, such as the LRSF's final mission.
Any of Mind/Fire, Mind/Elec or Mind/Energy will work extremely well, as Obscure Blade said. Mind/Fire is also the PvP FoTM for doms, if that takes your fancy.
Regarding /thorns and /psi, I've not played /thorns at all, I'm afraid but my main is a mind/psi! It's an interesting assault set, meh single-target damage with respectable AoE. The real gem in /psi is Drain Psyche, with it you have a source of +regen/recovery and one of the single most powerful -regen abilities in the game. Whether or not that's worth the loss of build-up/powerboost and an ST heavyhitter, is up to you.
I'm currently trying to make my way through the teens with 2 different Doms. Having tried various combos I'm left wishing I'd gone Mind/Fire or Plant/Psi really.
*I tried Mind in the past (Mind/Psi) before the Dom changes and Mind is a very good early Dominator set, all the single target controls work well with a Dom. But I'm not convinced Psi suits it well. From trying Fire separately (on an Earth/Fire) I think Fire is an ideal combo for Mind. Lots of range, lots of control (with easily the best single target control) and lots of varied damage.
My Plant controller is a beast and a Plant/Psi would be an amazing combo, especially post-22 (I've currently got a wee teen Ice/Psi who is alright but a complete End hog at the mo. Arctic Air < Seeds of Confusion). Plant/Fire would be even better in terms of creating a wasteland where once there was a spawn. If I hadn't got a Plant Controller I'd almost certainly be rolling a Plant/Fire.
Seeds is so good I'm worried it's due a rebalancing / normalizing back to a 90 second recharge 11.8 second duration power. At the moment it's recharge is 60 seconds and it's duration 24 which is well off any other "secondary AOE mez" in the control sets (other than Terrorize, but Fear is a weaker control than Confuse).
* Ice/Psi is what I'm actually trying to play at the mo (and Earth/Fire but I don't like the playstyle, they're 2 really good powersets but I like some sort of synergy to make powersets 'click' for me). Think I took Arctic Air way too early and I'm suffering because of it slightly but post 22 he should be pretty tough.
Don't forget Earth Assault - everyone forgets the Earth Assault .
Seismic Smash is the highest damaging attack for a Dom plus it has a Mag 3 hold which adds nicely to your primary hold powers. Tremor and Fissure also do well at PBAoE based damage and Mud Pots (slotted with procs) can actually be useable. Stone Mallet can one shot a minion and Heavy Mallet can pretty much decimate any lieutenant with ease. Power Boost is a definite win since it helps with the duration of your holds/immobs/disorients.
The only real duds of the set are Hurl Boulder since it has painfully slow activation (2.5 sec) and Stone Spears, but you're forced into those.

are you looking to make a perma-dom? If so, i can suggest a perma-dom build that you can make for under 200mil.
Wow thank you all so much for the information! I'm so glad I came back to this game! I decided to go with Plant/Fire for now but I'm definitely gonna do a Mind/Elec at some point I always thought elec was super cool but wasn't sure it could really hold up as a good secondary... I'm glad to hear it can! So far I'm head over heels for plant, and fire is real fun.
