  1. I'd like Tesla to be an actual attack.. though that goes for all the low damage mez effects to being actual attacks.

For VS I'd like it to decide what it wants to be..
If its a quasi pet then it needs to have its mitigation and damage potential to be drastically increased since all the argo gets dumped on the player that uses the power. This could be done in a number of ways, don't care how.

If it becomes an actual pet... then treat it like such and have it deal with its own argo as every other pet in the game does. I don't care if its like Phant Armor and invulnerable, Siggy and unhealable, or like any of the other pets.

Currently its like having the worst of both worlds. It doesn't offer mitigation, it dumps all the argo (and uncontrollable argo at that) onto the hero/villain using the power, and on top of that it does poor single target damage. It needs to decide if it wants to be a quasi pet like (tornado, rain of fire, lightning storm) or an actual pet like (siggy, stoney, fluffy).
  2. I think eventually a CoH 2 will happen but it will be years and years down the road. Most likely it will happen because a leap in tech will be made when CoH can no longer be played on modern computers as computers abandon older technologies and push forward with newer ones.

CoH will basically hit a technology block that they will be unable to skirt around with fixes, hacks and bubblegum. Sure dedicated users will always find a way to play the games that they loved years ago (dosbox is a good example) but average users won't have enough technical knowledge about legacy systems to get older games running on future computers.
  3. I think we will eventually see light blast and light manipulation. It even has a cool mechanic built into it.. prism. Different lights having different effects sort of like Brent Weeks' Black Prism novel (awesome book by the way). Perhaps even something like a mix of the Combo system from Street Justice and the swap ammo of utility of duel pistols.

Start off with primary colors red/yellow/blue, mix them into combination colors and effects. A Red attack followed by a yellow attack makes an orange light finisher that has a mixture of red and yellow effects or damage types ect.

Lots of concepts that can be played with using Light that don't really fall into the energy or radiation areas.

I was on a team back in November with my Beam/Energy Blaster running the synapse TF. It took us 5 hours and 51 minutes. We started with 7 people, ended the night with 5 people. It was an absolutely brutal TF that night. Anything that could be stacked against us was.. low area damage, only two damage ATs both of which were single target focused, larger number of lowbie characters verses exemplared characters, players argoing multiple groups resulting in multiple team wipes, scores of new players making typical noobie mistakes(tank kept forgetting to toggle shields, not knowing how to trade or merge insp things of that nature).

I would be six kinds of happy to see Synapse reworked and updated to reflect the current moral ambiguity that is the Clockwork King as well as something that uses Blue Steel as the two absolutely hate each other.
  5. Devouring Earth could use devoured Lions, panthers, wolves, dogs ect.
  6. When I read the initial proposal.. it really leaned towards more of a neanderthal or chaka from Land of the Lost, giant killer ape sort of visual. Big, brutish but hiding an intellect. Something that doesn't look smart and would use that to its advantage.

The character would be male and would use the huge male body. Facial wise I would use the Feral head. For the clothing.. if its modest more of a patch work leather look, if its not then use the barbarian clothing, or just put it in the briefs and use a few accents like maybe chains or rings or something of that nature. Furry I see it as furry.

Weapon a few things say brutish to me.. SS is one but its over done a lot. Titan weapons (using the concrete block) or Mace (using the bone) is where I would lean towards offensively. Titan Weapon has that nice SMASH BASH WHACK feel to it, and you are using a massive weapon so it implies strength and lack of subtle motions. So I would lean towards titan weapons.

Defensively something that highlights the longevity of the species as well as the rush and bursting nature of capabilities over its long life. Regeneration is the sort of secondary that I would go with. It fits with the long life and can be very brutish as they don't care if they get hurt because they will just keep going.

The APPs None of them really fit your concept though the energy APP might come closest..highest senses, perfect self and the like. A more passive approach verses an active one. Though with its understand could have come with it a means to manipulate matter in some manner. Pyrokinesis wouldn't be out of line in that case. You could also play off the entire given man fire sort of aspect to it.

Pool wise.. the presence pools would work, something that inspires a natural fear makes sense. Travel would be jumping. Leadership pool to show off his learned intelligence.

AT wise... Scrapper. I was thinking Brute at first but I like the scrapper for this because of what Critical Hits can be used to represent.. the critical can be used for just sheer power, and at the same time they can be used to represent a knowledge of when and where to attack something and at what time.. like exposing an opening. It conveys both power and intellect all in one concept.

Origin... Science. Seriously this creature is like the perfect Guinea Pig that I can see it starting out as an experiment in evolution. Think about how it gains and loses knowledge.. something was doing tests on it.
  7. hmm My play has changed a lot over the past year. I've spent more time working on a singular character then I do bouncing around between characters.

I instilled some rules now that we have the paragon market in place.. so it changed things in how I play.

Rule 1. Only buy new powersets when they go on sale.
Rule 2. You can not purchase a new set until you have at least 1 level 50 using the previously purchased set.
Rule 3. Purchased character slots can only be used if you get the character in the previous new slot has gotten to 50.. otherwise new character replaces an old character or new character must be made on another server. (forces me to use up transfers or delete characters made when I first started playing that have yet to get out of the 30's)

I run some TFs each week, I team more, I am playing way more melee then I did in the past (mostly I played controllers, defenders and blasters) these days I am more brute, scrapper, tankers.

I think this is completely to do with the differences in how shader tech is utilized these days verses a time when shader tech was used back in the early 2000's when they were working on the game.

AP, Preatoria really heavily upon the shaders to fill in detail on the buildings. A system like mine has no hardware T&L(standard on all cards these days), nor do I have vertex shaders. Look at Lancer's low end images and high end.. the buildings are very well shaded in both. On my dead end system the images buildings looks horrid and plain because there is nothing to actually shade in the building details so I basically get rendered blocks with no textures. A very flat dated look.

KR and other older zones though all had building textures and do not rely upon shadows to give them all the details that they do. This causes them to look great on a low end system and very much the same on a higher end system but I imagine that they also look dated on upper end systems where the actual details could all rendered and shaded realtime verses just loading a textured picture.

I think eventually the Devs are going to have to bite the bullet and raise the system requirements sometime soon. The truly scary thing about the requirements for CoH is that they are BELOW my computer. I know how poorly CoH played on my computer when I had 1gig of memory.. I can't even conceive of the game even running at all with 512mb ram and a Gforce 2 era card.
  9. To get the true low end experience you really need a low end computer.. or in my case a Dead End computer. You can lower the graphics but you still have some bells and whistles going on.. so for those here I present..

CoH from a Dead End system
World texture is very low, character Texture very high (I like to at least have MY character look decent). World detail is 50%, character detail is 30% (lowest as they can go).

    Imperial City
This was taken from the orange building near the TPN building. The picture is darker then it looks in game sorry about that. Notice though the invisible aspects of the building's windows.

    Clockwork cleaning streets

Here we have some photos take in AP.
Atlas Park's invisible building The building isn't always invisible, before my memory upgrade that is basically what I saw all the time in first ward from most of the buildings.

    Near Liberty

    Looking at the Tram

and we shall round it out with a few King's Row pictures.
    KR one
    KR two
    KR three

So ends a quick view of a dead end system. I'm actually impressed that the game holds up as well as it does on a system like mine. And for those wondering yes I am as up to date as I can be on my drivers... and by dead end I mean there is literally nothing more I can do for my system in terms of upgrades to hardware or drivers.

    I24 hopes?

My hope is that we get more of a tie in with the battalion in issue 24. Not the full invasion but expanding upon what has been happening within Sirens and Galaxy City and the shivans.

A new LFG trial ala dfb, dib would be most welcomed.

I think we have seen the end of Preatoria though. From the way I read what Prometheus said about Tyrant and the Magi trial it was pretty much clear that we are done with Preatoria and all efforts should be going to focus for the Battalion.
  11. I think its easier to make a case that all players should be Rogues or Vigilantes upon entering the game and THEN use the alignment system to shift towards a heavier Hero or Villain leaning. This would allow new players to group with anyone regardless of side which is something that they should be encouraged to do.

The downside would be existing characters.. they would need to figure out a way to either grandfather existing characters that don't have access to the alignment system or to force a change to a Vig or Rogue choice upon those players that do not have access to the alignment system.

Rogue and Vig missions could then be added to the various zones which are sorely needed now and would make these alignments more worthwhile then the Hero/villain alignments.

It does exactly what the OP is talking about and uses an existing system to do it with. If they just open all the zones then there is zero incentive to using the alignment system at all.. just go Hero or villain and get the only perk that ultimately matters for the Vigs and Rogues.
  12. Would have been about 6-7 years old during this time..

I do remember going to see
    Tron
    Secret of Nihm
Poltergeist (This movie was THE reason I stopped sleeping with a teddy bear.. that freaking clown doll man I tell ya.. I kept expecting my teddy bear to try to kill me at night.)
And who could forget ET. Wonderful movie.

Oh man.. Annie, The Toy, Dark Crystal they also came out that year. Saw those in the theater as well.

The Flight of Dragons (loved that movie) and The Last Unicorn.. I don't believe I saw these in theaters but I do remember watching them on the VCR.. as well as The Plague Dogs.
  13. Overall I loved the opening chapter.. I was absolutely giddy when we could fight the trolls. I missed fighting them.
  14. Once an issue from now on. If they release 1 slot per issue that still gives them 4 more slots and roughly a year or more of continual growth and movement in the story depending on how often issues come out.

They should have everything up to Omega penned in as to its actual effect. How we get those effects are penciled in though (like the hybrid going from a toggle to a click) so they can be altered based on feedback of beta as well as intention of the power slot.

Beyond Omega I can see penciled in so that they can dial it in better the closer to the Omega slot that we get. They have a rough idea of what they want to do and where they are going but they still have time to alter things and we will be none the wiser.
  15. I've played though all the shard Taskforces multiple times as well have all the shard contacts unlocked on my main character and all before we had the travel options that we have today and before the nice auto exemplar system, or heck before the gravity geysers were marked on the map. I will have to say that few things have sucked as much as being 7 hours into the Quarterfield TF and to have the player exemplaring you crash and be booted from the TF.
  16. What I saw of the trial when I ran it the one time I ran it.. it seemed fun. Really it did. I enjoyed my slideshow presentation of the trial, and I had a nice intermission during the Chimera AV fight. After the intermission and the trial resumed I got back and Tyrant had almost been defeated and the city was in ruins. Tyrant must have thought I was working too hard though and laid my character down for her nap each and every time she stood up.

All joking aside my actual issues are not something the Dev can fix with the trial in that for a low end system the trial is just very very laggy like 1-5 fps lag during the kill 250 mob mission and its just worse on a full league. I crashed not even making it to the Chimera fight. It does get better once you get to the destroyed parts of the city then the frame rates drastically increased (and drastic I mean in the range of 12-15fps) but the sheer graphics of all the other players and their powers were hiding whatever it was that was killing me in the final fight.

My suggestion is that in the future when you release a trial like this, release an incarnate story arc and allow both the trial and arc to award xp towards the slot. The arc will be far slower but at least its an option. The Emperors Sword would have been a good arc for this sort of idea. This way players are given an option not just for solo play but also if they don't meet the system requirement to do a trial but do meet the requirements to play most other aspects of the game. I didn't know how the trial was going to play out until I tried it, some trials are laggy and others are not all that bad for me. Now that I know the extent of this trial its just above and beyond my low end system I won't be doing the trial for now and will be waiting until either another trial is added or a solo path is added to unlock the hybrid slot, or I get a new computer.

Overall though it was an interesting experience and the trial did seem fun and the others running the trial did seem to be enjoying themselves.
  17. An absence of Shadows
    The Peace Killers
    Bonefire
    Clockwork Captive
    Vahz pollutant plot
    War and Peacebringers
    Warshades and Peace
    I lost my daddy
    Mind of a king
    The Rumblings of the past
    Shadow science
    Tsoo Shinangans
    Vahz Plague
    Buried Past
    Crown of Glory
    Dirge of Chaos
A Faultline in the Sands of Time
    Hand of Iron
    Skyraider Secret
    Tsoo coup
    Wheel of Destruction
    Winslow and the Cosmotron
    Scary Monsters
    The Nictus Alliance
    Nictus insurrection
    To save a Soul
    The Final Darkness
World Wide Red (I so hate indigo and crimson)
    Upon the Psyche plain.

I need to run more arcs. I always keep missing the skyway/steel arcs as 10-20 zips by me these days and when you hit 15-20 there are so many arc options that you just forget about the older ones.
  18. What is on Twitter as well.
  19. I can remember reading the secret wars when I was kid. I used to have the issue in which spider-man got the black suit for the first time. but I was a kid and read that thing to death. I also remember power pack.. man I loved power pack growing up. I also had the issue in which superman gave batman the ring of kryptonite. Obviously the He-man comics that came with the toys. Transformer comics as well, I can remember those.

I don't really remember which was my first comic but one of my earliest memories is from when I was four and watched the original Spiderman and Spiderwoman cartoons on television so I'm guessing I've read comics in some form or another for all my life as I've always loved superheroes.
  20. I have to put up.. Street Justice and Energy armor.

Street Justice just for the visuals. The set is so much fun visually and its a bonus that it hits like a ton of bricks. I've taken every attack power in the set just so I can vary all of the various combination visually. It is just wicked, wicked awesome. I love street justice so far.

Energy Armor. It takes a while to get going but once you get the later powers the set just takes off. Its tough as nails, has regeneration, has healing, has hit point increases in the crashing tier 9.. and an aura that increases recharge the more it gets saturated. It is just... really really good and using an IO build can get an insane amount of Defenses spread around it. You can pretty much cap S/L F/I E/Ne don't think you can cap the Psi and NE is a little harder to cap.. S/L F/I and E are very easy to cap though.
  21. Well I have a lot of experience with that from years ago. More inf then I could spend on all the alts that I could make, no xp, no inventions, all Hami'd out.. basically the character from that time was just about finished as finished could get.

I still kept playing them.. I would solo, team, run TFs and Trials.. spend hours out in the shadow shard just running around on the gravity geysers.. or teleporting friends into midair (my personal favorite in the shadow shard). I would bounce around and explore little nooks in the old faultline map without fear of dying to the spawns. Actually I spent a lot of time jumping off of buildings and building hoping now that I think about it. I'd engage in light hearted RP every once in a while. Write character fiction, or at least think of fiction in my head and go do something in game to reflect why I was doing what I was doing.

It was just sort of freeing as I could just play for the sake of playing and enjoyment of it.. not that I don't do so now, it was just simpler back in the early days.
  22. Thorn/Bio armor

    Plant/Nature Controller

and maybe a Necro/Nature Mastermind. Have a druid and a blighter

Nature/water could be a fun Defender or Corruptor. So that could be a possibility.

Blaster Water/energy most likely. Or water/elec. The Soak n Shock. *nods*
  23. Street Justice/energy is a very fun character.
  24. Sometimes when I'm making a new character I hit random a few times to give me an idea of something that I would like to play. Only I end up with a piece like say the head or a set of colors that I liked, and the rest of it.. not so much.

The suggestion is simple in theory. All me to lock in a costume piece I like while still allowing the rest to be randomly generated. So if I get a head and leg that I like, I can use the random generator to alter the body, aura, arms and such. Or if I get a look that I like allow me to randomize the patterns and colors without destroying what I already liked about the character.

I think it will add more function to the random costume generation feature and make it more useful as an actual aid in generating a costume.
  25. I actually like handclap and lightning clap. If I remember right slotted for stun you can perma the stun effect. I used it all the time on my concept tanker (ss/invuln based on a Troll no toggles outside of invincible. I especially like to use it when unstoppable and other such tier 9 crashing powers are well crashing.
