I've got a meeting with my IT Department on Monday. If they don't give me the answer I want (that they'll fix connection problems with my web servers after 4 weeks) I'll at least get the fist shake in. I can't promise the "Oh Hells Yeah!" because there might be someone there that could fire me.
Edit:
You know what. If they give me the answer I want, that they'll fix my server connection issues because that's the agreement they signed, I'll give 'em both. It'd be justifiable since it's a good thing. -
Aw man... I missed Alty on TS? With Disco? Next you're going to tell me the Canadian population doubled.

He'll probably come back and demand he be put in charge of the SG when he finds out that someone (inadvertently) named it after him. Not to mention the IP/copyright infringement with something like this. At least he didn't have a costume that looked like Ultraman. (That I remember).

When the only thread you pay attention to is 337 pages in the new board it's a tad annoying to need to click twice to get to new posts.
I can also tell I'll be disabling signature views fairly quickly. -

Personally, I think that it would need to be a granted item on a specific date to all accounts to be available. The way it's currently implemented it's a gift for ALL players regardless of how long they've been playing. Changing that dynamic would be something I'd hate to see happen.
Pie in the sky item: They tie it to your global account. Nearly everything in the game is driven by databases. Have a flag field enabled/disabled when the power is clicked at the global account level (since it appears all characters are a child table to the global user table). When a player logs in it checks the value of this field from the global account. Three possible values (rough examples: used/enabled/unused) are checked. This might be completely unrealistic given that the servers appear to require a restart to enable/disable the code though.
When "Unused" is checked the click temp for enabling double xp is tripped. When "Enabled"is flagged a script pulls the click temp and forces a look-up to the doubled xp table. When "Disabled" the account would not have the extra table look-up or the temp click available. If the field is set to "Unused" at the time of the next grant, just have the script bypass that entry and process the next. -

A better, win-win way to approach this is with a "double XP temp power" that is good on your toon for X hours/days of gameplay. That way, the rush for PLing is more spread out, and regular players get to enjoy the benefits of the double XP without being shut out regularly.

I don't agree with this being something that isn't counted down in real time. Look at the Holiday Spirit awards. I've got some toons with them left from the December 05 award.
If they do something like this I would think it needs to be done with a real-time count down. You click it and it's good for 48 hours of real time from when you click it. The code is there from the holiday temp powers like the self rez and jet pack. This *would* give people a chance to schedule it in with work schedules or what not. Make it not stackable like when they gave freespecs, only one at a time. You don't use it, you lose it.
*Edited for spelling error. -
Here's something that I'm surprised by. Everyone here is making the assumption that there are people randomly getting DC'd and other "overloaded server" type things, and that the play quality with the "higher" player number cap is bad. There have generally been 3-4 RWZ's all weekend. I've seen as few as 3 and as many as 5 Grandvilles spawned. Nearly the same story with Peregrine Island with a minimum of 3 and a max of 5. Now, what exactly do you think all those people are doing there? They likely aren't having connection issues if people I know on dial up aren't with the capped server loads.
That's where our attitude saying that there's PLers, influence, and lewt farmers taking up our spaces on Freedom. Have any of you not on Freedom seen this type of thing? Think you might be a little angry if you saw those numbers of zones created while you couldn't log back in?
If you want to point and laff at the players who don't want to take the 30 to 90 seconds it takes to click into and back out of servers to make Freedom accessible, go for it. Most of us regulars are too. Try taking a look at the situation (which you honestly have no first hand knowledge of) and seeing it for what it is. Those zones average 2 instances a piece and sometimes 3 during regular prime time playing periods. Seeing those zones create second instances instead of Atlas, Steel, Kings Row, Galaxy, or the Hollows is what sets us off. About the only time those zones spawn a second instance now is when one of the other servers crashes and their players join Freedom for a bit with new toons that they don't PL.
*Edited because I realized I'd inflated the number of GV's because I was writing fast. -

That's what you guys get for choosing to live on the most populated server. I mean really what the heck were you expecting?

I expect you hypocrites to go to the Tank and Test Server sections and tell everyone the changes to Tanker's Ice Melee set aren't needed. They were critical of the Developers and wanted some action taken.
Oh wait. That's what happened here. They announced the login restriction a day ahead of time, and some people said something initially. Then they lowered the tolerance on the fly (which is the part I didn't like) and more people complained. Some people (me and a bunch of people on TS) got forcibly DC'd from the server. Then they took action and put the cap back up again.
Go back to where you came from. -
This might come off a bit harsh, but it's something I want to say. It's a forum, deal with it. I'm allowed an opinion.
You bunch of social hypocrites. Every one of the negative posters in this thread has posts that encompass a wide variety of interests and interacts with a large amount of people. I'm startled by the fact you miss this simple parallel between social interaction in a forum and interaction on a high population server. Where you all like to move around to different sections freely, that's how I view Freedom. If you feel like discussing art, you go to the fan art or comic book section. If I feel like talking about things like that I start up a conversation with the really excellent bio writers I know on Freedom, or the ones that are phenomenal with putting together a costume to fit a theme.
There are so many people on this server that I feel most long time Freedom players have formed as large, if not larger friend networks than most might have just through regular play. I feel this way because that's how I've "met" people on Freedom, and how my friends on Freedom have told me they met their friends. Speaking for myself, the vast majority of my friends play exclusively on Freedom. Global channels and global friends is just a way to stay in contact with them when they're on the opposite side as I am.
You want a direct correlation to what it's like to a forumite? Our entire friendship network resides on this server. We have all the different types of social connections we want or need in this one place. A lot of my friends on this server have one character they love to play, and they love to play them with their friends who also love to play one (and possibly two) different characters. For the connection how about when there's a paradigm shift in a forum section or moderation policies. There is a large outcry from the entire population on both sides of the situation. This is no different.
How about we take it a step further, then I'll share a very recent example of something like this happening in the forums. Imagine there was no distinction of topics in the forum and only a limited number of people could be logged in to post at any one time. Someone had to close a browser or actively log out for a new person to log in and be able to post. My previous history example is of the Suggestions & Ideas section movement and change in tenor. I'd say that it is highly likely the reactions it had that something like that would be even more polarizing. They're both (forums and the game) social constructs. Both are playstyles. One is more traditional play, the forum example is a more (arguably) intellectual way to play. Ask yourself this. If they put the same restrictions on the forums, how would you react? The same way the people who play on Freedom are?
Grow up. You vent steam in your own threads about things you don't like that the Developers do, we're allowed to do the same. Call us names, but at least be consistent with it and don't act like your way is better. A lot of the posters in this Freedom thread and the ones in the Tech section I've lost respect for from this. I'd thought some of you were a little better than you've acted. -
I keep remembering back to when Server Transfers were first announced. Everyone from Freedom said something like this would happen. Everyone who was on the forums and not actively playing on Freedom said that it wouldn't.

I've got to disagree with the pruning. What's left does not leave the resolution to the posts that you did end up leaving, which is a much more upbeat situation than what this thread currently shows. What's left is what started all the ugliness.

Understandable. Unfortunately, the forum software doesn't allow for very neat pruning of posts. By removing one of the "mean spirited" posts from early on, it took out most of the remaining thread.
At this point we can only ask for people to play nice and observe the posted speed limits. Thanks!

To me, that entirely falls on how the questions are asked and the stated theme of the line of interviews. There will always be paranoid people that think their opinion doesn't matter and they aren't in the "in" crowd.
Heck, maybe a guide on how a forum works would be helpful so people realize that it's a very big digital world. There are MANY different ponds for people to participate in. It could receive a perma-link and statement at the start of every BtM section to help people get the theme of the section.
