Honestly I think Ill/Anything is good. You've already done two great secondaries in /Time and /Cold I love both of mine. Ill/Rad is the classic powerhouse and original killer of AVs. Honestly I think you can't go wrong with an Illusion secondary. I have thermal/cold/and /Time all at 50+ and it's all I have to stop from rolling another.
I've heard great things about Ill/TA. Ill/Emp doesn't interest me only because I personally prefer more of a debuff (or even balanced buff/debuff) set with my trollers. -
Quote:Yeah that's what I got out of it as well. The point they were making is that Gordon was a 'wartime' commissioner but now that Gotham is in relative peace regarding crime he needed to be removed and replaced with someone else. (No doubt someone that will allow some of the old corruption to return) And Durraken I'm not so sure that's bad writing as much as it's only a snippet of a larger scene and a lot of perspective is missing. He didn't mean a literal army shooting war. He meant the war against crime in Gotham.
I'm on the fence on the trailer. I agree you could take out 1 sec of footage and it could be any action movie. I'm definitely there when it opens, but I'm not feeling it based on what they are showing so far. -
Probably from your teammates or taking another primary, unfortunately. Ice is pretty low damage. But I'm far from an Ice control expert, maybe one of them can stop by and give some damage advice if there is any out there. (Advice, not experts. We have plenty of those.)

Vorpal is underwhelming. I like what I read about it, but in practical use....meh.

Follow up:
Just now. Guardian server.
Zoned to several zones on different characters red and blue side all worked fine.
Zoned into and out of mission worked fine.
So today it seems ok. Haven't restarted the computer or anything from last session where I had the crashed. But I did notice when I first zoned it went to that 5% like everyone was talking about. That is where I crashed before as well. But today it went there for a second, then back to zero and then loaded normally. Not sure if any of this is helpful but wanted to share what I saw. -
-
We found forcebubble was too inconsistent (only worked sometimes) and kept the nightmares away from her.
-
Personally I went spiritual on my Ill/Time. I think you could go cardiac (I know there are times I wish I had especially solo), but I really wanted to push recharge for this build.

Quote:There we'll agree. My Illusion/Time/Primal loves the combo. Like I said, I'm not "anti" defense and do believe in full utility of primary and secondary powers.Powerboost + Farsight is awesome sauce. Focus on trying to get Chronoshift close to perma too.
I stand by my points and gladly and politely agree to disagree on the defense bonus focus argument. I in no way am trying to shoehorn anyone into a "playstyle" change. My point is you can play with any "playstyle" and not be softcapped. I have a lot of controllers all of which play very differently. Trust me my Fire/Storm doesn't sit back on the sidelines and "support". She plays as aggressively as any scrapper in my stable of 50s (taking down +4 and 5s in Cimerora when she was in her low 40s). And without the benefit of focusing on defense bonuses I would add. It's a philosophical difference and I'm not trying to change any minds any more than someone is trying to change mine. -
Yep, same here. I get mapserver disconnects trying to enter missions or zoning. Was fine yesterday, just noticed this tonight. It's disconnected everytime I've zoned or tried to enter a mission.

I love the new (well, new for a while now) repulsion bomb. It's a great little aoe damage power now.

Not a great year for genre movies or TV. Nice to see Game of Thrones and Peter Dinklage get their just due. And even though I'm not caught up on the show it was nice to see American Horror Story with a few nods.
For those who care about this stuff (yes I know how some of you feel about awards season), I think it was a pretty weak year at the theater and the real magic was on the small screen.
I think the best competition this year is in the TV drama and lead actor in a TV drama. Boardwalk Empire's second season was the tension filled mob story we all wanted to see in season one (which was really all set up). This season was fantastic, and maybe IMHO the best show on television. That said, while I haven't watched this season yet, I've heard great things about this years Breaking Bad. Homeland is a strong contender with a timely storyline and fantastic acting from Daines, Lewis and the always great Mandy Patinkin. Also strong is Boss from Starz (of all networks). Forget all the real life drama and his past as a great comedic actor, Kelsey Grammar is unbelievably good and evil and heartbreaking in Boss. (All at the same time!) Honestly I could see any of the best actor nominees win that category (except maybe Irons). They were all that great. And for people who are fans of the Wire I really think that both Homeland and Boss carried some of the "feel" of the Wire in their own ways. If you haven't seen either of them, check them out sometime. Warning!!! Boss is a talky grownup type story, not much in the way of sfx. But it's great. My heart though belongs to Game of Thrones as I'm fully invested in ASOIAF, but I wouldn't be upset at all to see Boardwalk, Homeland or Boss take the prize.
And yay for no Mad Men in Drama. I like talky grownup drama but I've never gotten the appeal of this show. Yawn. Overrated. -
Quote:I'm obviously and outspokenly one of those people and while this is a fundamental debate and I know I won't change your mind in particular I'd just like to point out a few counter points.Definitely go for defense. There are plenty of situations where controls don't work or are ineffective, and while many will cry "not necessary!", the fact remains that softcapped defense significantly increases performance. Arguments against building for defense are usually based on faulty reasoning that assumes defense builds sacrifice control/support power (they don't, and properly done, they control/debuff better than non-defense builds since you don't have to worry about aggro that much), or based on purist appeals to authority that say that controllers were "intended" for support and should not be designed any other way. That said, fighting pool isn't necessary since time gets high defense through farsight, so you can softcap without the fighting pool. CJ + Maneuvers will take you halfway there, IOs can do the rest.
How does softcapping defense increase "performance"? You get hit less, how does that mean you are performing better as a controller? If neither build dies more than the other (which I contend) how is one outperforming the other?
Focusing on recharge and end allows you to control/attack more ofter and for a longer duration. That sounds to me like "better controlling". There is no way having more defense makes your controls or debuffs better. The argument that staying alive makes you a better controller is total bunk because those of us on this side of the debate aren't calling for builds where you die a lot. If anything it's to the contrary. I have controllers with no shields and no defense that stay alive just fine and don't sit on the sidelines by any stretch. It's all about understanding aggro.
Now before it gets all flamey in here, let me restate what I've said in a lot of threads on this issue. I'm not saying defense/resistance is a bad thing. I just think that it is better suited in a build that stacks with a primary or secondary power i.e. farsight, forcefield, sonic, etc so that you don't have to rely heavily on bonuses that take away from the most important aspects of controlling (recharge and endurance). Because yes there are builds that do sacrifice primary or secondary function for the sake of defense, when smart (and aggressive) play and a good build can replace all that defense. We have the mitigation in our primaries and secondaries!
A controllers job isn't to 'not get hit', its to control and use their secondary to keep themselves and their teammates alive and their enemies dead/arrested.
Like I said Laev, I'm not expecting to change your mind any more than you do ours. I just wanted to add a counterpoint to your position. That's all. -
There is not enough snark or vomit to express how that makes me feel.
-
You can farm on a fire/kin with SOs, especially when you are picking the enemy. It will make 'some' difference, but not much really. Not enough to count.
-
Lothic pretty much summed up my feelings on the show. My life wouldn't be greatly improved one way or the other. I watch the show when I remember it's on, but it hasn't made my DVR or Xfinity online rotation. If it's renewed I'll probably continue to watch it (when I remember) but if it disappeared. Meh. I don't mind so much the family aspect of the show, but if you are going to write about teenagers and kids and families at the very least write it well.
-
The issue with bosses isn't regen, it's hit points. You need a heavy hitting power. Maybe look into taking seismic smash. Get rid of spring attack, move maneuvers there and take seismic smash and figure out a way to slot it a bit. Also slotting some damage in char would help with bosses.
-
The only percentages I'm interesting in regarding decimation are the 2.25% Endurance and the 6.25% recharge bonuses.
-
I think you are looking at spiritual (and alpha for that matter) a bit off. It's not a flat out global recharge buff like you get from IO bonuses or speed boost. It works like an enhancement so if you have 45% recharge that will be added to what each power you have just like you put an enhancer in the power. That means that it follows ED (enhancement diversification) to an extent. As you go higher up the tiers more of the enhancement ignores ED.
So if you have zero recharge slotted in a power then you'll get the full benefit and 45% recharge. But if you have say 95% recharge already you won't end up with 140% recharge for the power. Depending on how high up you are in the alpha tier you can end up with a good percentage of that 45% ignoring ED but not all of it. Hence not really "global recharge" like you see in your combat attributes tab. -
Quote:A great memory from my childhood. What can I add, but this? So long, Mr. Morgan.

When talking iTrial survivability its a whole new ballgame and the amount of defense (again) isn't the issue. Is the character level shifted at all? If not of course you are going to die alot on iTrials against +4s especially if you are playing a controller like the enemies are even conning. +4 bosses and EBs hitting you, of course it will hurt.
I hear the argument for defense all the time "well in order for me to support my friends I need to stay alive" "I'm a better controller if I stay alive". That implies that what I'm saying is you should be squishy and die all the time as a controller. But it's not. What I am saying (and a few others around here) is that you can control and support and even play aggressive and survive on the mitigation given to you from your primary and secondary alone. I even have a few of my trollers that don't even have epic shields and they do just fine.
Your defense/resistance/mitigation is using your powers and a minimum of strategy and a clear understanding of aggro. Defense is a cute trick, but far from necessary. Even on iTrials. -
There are ingame requirements already for these, so I think using terms like discrimination and elitism is a tad hyperbolic. That said, a lot of the bad feelings can be avoided if the league leader use courtesy and careful planning.
1. Don't invite and then check requirements.
2. Be clear what you want up front when recruiting. Don't just announce a trial and sort it out after invites are given. Announce what you are doing and who you want to do it with you. Don't blanket announce and then sort; that makes people angry, and it should. For all they know its a normal trial run and you invited them. Nobody expects to be kicked after they join.
3. Only do this in situations where it makes a difference. Master runs, UG, new trials. There is no reason to slap a bunch of requirements on vanilla standard Lam or BAF runs.
4. Be fair and consistent. Don't kick one person for not having the requirements, but allow someone elsee along because, 'well I know they know what they are doing', 'they are a friend' or 'well its just the last spot'. Sometimes things slip through the cracks and you have to clean up a situation (they were out of zone and you thought they fit the requirements and didn't find out until later...yes sometimes people lie) If that happens see No. 5.
5. Most important- Be POLITE. There is nothing wrong with 'please, thank you and I'm sorry'. Don't just kick someone without a reason. I'd even contend once you invite (unless you physically can't start the trial) you are stuck with them (See No. 1) But if for some reason someone needs to go, be nice. It's totally free.
6. Have fun. Relax. No drama. -
Somebody watched Boardwalk Empire this week.
