Quote:/agrees with this.Perfect example: ITF Sybil caverns in the first mission. Incarnate with Tier 4 Ion Judgement runs to one side, Shield Scrapper runs to the other side. Ion Judgement goes off, killing THE ENTIRE ROOM before the shield scrapper can click on the ground to get the shield charge off. And we thought shield charge was overpowered.
By watching them play, I mean just that: you run in to make use of the character you've put hours into building, but whatever choices you've made are irrelevant because another player likes easy mode. I could run in completely unslotted and do just as well.
Unless I want to solo.
Well, when an incarnate player can pretty much power through everything in a mission with such speed that others don't have much opportunity to contribute, how is that NOT letting ONE person decide the difficulty of the encounter?
EDIT- and before this gets out of hand, let me reiterate - I don't believe we're at that point yet. I'm just voicing concerns in what I hope is a constructive manner about FUTURE content.
Personally, I think it's rather bad that someone wanting to run something this way would have to specifically set something up (much like someone set up what they called a "smell the roses" ... think it was ITF... a while back, since they were tired of everyone speed running it and wanted to actually see what was going on - reading off the contact dialog, etc. into the team channel, etc.)
The power, it's been a creepin' for a while. *shrug* I just wonder if it's becoming a crutch for people, even just looking at IO builds. Half want to challenge people to put out just a decent SO build for something and see what happens. -
More costume slots, more character slots... heh heh heh...

Quote:Kelly Uqua, among others, show there's some flexibility in body form.As interesting as that would be, costume creation would be pretty limited.
Quote:And then there's the fact that most Rikti hate our guts and wouldn't really want to be on our side, so I'm not sure how that would work either. -
Annnd... the other one I was waiting on from Separino. Bots/Traps mastermind (and former racer,) Lady 302. Apparently working on one of the Transformers.
(Well, that's what the 'bot part looks like to me!)

Quote:Oh? Hmmm.... So how about:Besides, conversations about Hitler are hardly relevant to a discussion and what's going to be the next spacecraft from NASA
"Without Hitler and the Nazi party's support of the scientists (von Braun, etc.) that developed the V2 and proposed variants, what would spaceflight look like today?"
Or:
"Holocaust and the other atrocities of the Nazis aside, given the funding and advanced designs their aeronautics industry was looking at (see Sanger, among others,) would our place in space and aerospace technology have been farther ahead had WWII not prematurely started? (The Germans were initially expecting a mid-40s start to the war.) What would aerospace tech look like today?"
I can weave them in legitimately. -
Quote:Fortunately, all the servers have people on them and none of them are ghost towns. Some people, unfortunately, have this idea that if they're not lagging out because of the number of people in a zone, there's nobody there. However, teaming isn't difficult on any of the servers, plus they all have their own 'personality.' Part of the fun is finding one that fits you. (Or more than one - I'm happiest on Pinnacle and Victory, for instance, but have characters everywhere. Can't stand the Freedom server, generally.)You want to play on servers with lots of people on them not some ghost town.
One thing to realize, as well, is this - while other MMOs have a lot going on outside (basically a lot of hunts, kill 30 bats to get 5 bat nose hairs for one person, etc etc) a fair bit of what goes on in COH are instanced missions. Appropriately, much of what happens happens *inside* buildings and warehouses (and caves.) (That, and we have a LOT of zones to spread people out.) This is part of why going with global channels is so handy.
Also, the "Top 100 supergroups" thing is a misnomer. All it lists is the amount of prestige (think "Super group cash") they've accumulated. It tells nothing about the group itself - for all you know, they're doing nothing but farming for that total. (Think of it this way - is a complete jerk with 100 million dollars better than the guy who hangs otu with you, picks you up when your car breaks down and is fun to hang around, but only makes 30k a year? No. Cash - real life or in game - means nothing when looking for good people.) Plus, the registrar is fairly useless - it gives you no information on what the group's about or how to contact anyone, unless the SG leader has deigned to put in (and update!) that information. Which is pretty rare.
A far better way to find a supergroup is simply to team, frankly. Find people you have fun playing with, and join them. That way you get to know about them, and they get to know you - you get to see if the group's a good fit for you or not before hand. Alternately, head down to your server forums when you're settled in, and ask around there. -
Quote:Um....The explanation is really simple:
If we could use all our powers while using Walk, they would have had to redo every single animation in the game to work with Walk, just like with flying.
BaBs created Walk in his spare time, he certainly didn't have enough spare time to make new Walk animations for every power in existence.
Walk leaves you on both feet. You can use powers while superjumping (barring those that require you to have your feet on the ground.) You can use them while sprinting, ninja and beast running and superspeeding. Nothing about Walk is so far gone from any of those other poses that anything should have to be reanimated. We're not talking the "I want a motorcycle" that comes up from time to time, which WOULD have all of those issues.
Two feet on the ground, one moving in front of the other. Which pretty well any animation is already dealing with (aside from rooting and having their own starting stances.)
Can't buy that argument. And even if it WERE the case, it wouldn't and shouldn't have anything to do with locking out combining of enhancements - which has no animation at all. -
Quote:*nod*The "elf" ears are close (but not the same :/) to the pointy ears - ears are now a option like which face, etc - not a Mask/Half Helmet/Helmet/etc level option.
There are also a few others that now operate differently (Metallic for example) for those with Ultramode turned on - as I recall that was done in such a way that it is changed for you even without a trip to the tailor.
Frankly, I hate the way the uber-shininess looks on some pieces (Tech Sleek, I believe, is the one I'm thinking of. if I could just get back the not-so-shiny... the really reflective version tends to look worse, IMHO.)
Quote:This reminds me of the old skirt bug that happened a few years ago.. And one day I ran into a dude who still had their bugged skirt-costume in play. They chose the slitted-sides, but due to the bug, the front and back of the skirt were slitted and it looked pretty cool.
I asked them about it and they said "ya, Ive been keeping this costume ever since the bug was fixed, but can never change it in the tailor xD" -
Well, from the interview, it sounds like there's a fairly obvious "This piece is locked" (and extra items that link to the store.) So I don't think there'll be much of a 'bait and switch,' as you put it.
That said, I wouldn't object to a "Hide unavailable pieces" button. -
Like/am intriegued by for various reasons:
Ghost Widow, just because. And her cimeroran counterpart.
Scirocco I think has been underexposed in game but still looks quite interesting.
Vanessa Devore - for the various intricate "bits" (and it's interesting to see her in Praetoria, too.) The upcoming screen shots for the Carnival of Light are interesting, too.
Imperious - of all the versions of statesman, he's (to me) the most visually interesting.
Sister Solaris (or any of the sybils) - never fails, run an ITF, at least one person will say how they still want the outfit.
Tunnel Rat. Which might be more because of the character herself, but everything fits.
And from the screen shots, the Praetorian WW.
Edit: And yes, the four refugees from City of Hero. They really need more done with them. They're not exposed enough to really get a feel for if their costumes "fit" them or not.
There's something just *fitting* about the Dark Watcher's look, too.
Fit for Story:
We'll start with your own NS. Doc Vahz and Black Scorpion fit for the same reason. I'd list barracuda, but I'm also biased toward wanting the Coralax EAT to explore that entire segment of lore.
Even though you didn't ask, I think most of the original Phalanx... well... are a bit dated at this point and could use some freshening up. I mean, the biggest update we've had is finding out that Positron is bald. Citadel still looks like he's eaten something that's making him ill. There's no real link between Luminary and Nightstar (besides "female-shaped robot.") There's just not that much *interesting* to their look these days. -
-
*nod* And I highly doubt we'll see redside Kheld and blueside VEAT arcs - after all, we're restricted from making either in Praetoria now, so we'll have to see what happens with the new tutorial. It's a lot of work to come up with specialized stories for four ATs. (And given how the VEAT arcs turned out... er...)

Quote:The old Pointy ears face was removed, as well. (And I believe Malaise had a top, too, but not 100% sure on that.)Usually it has to do with certain pieces being renamed or moved to a different section. The only costume piece that I know of that's been completely removed are the "Malaise" pants. Search around in the tailor, and you should be able to find everything again.
This guy has both:
... but can never take that outfit to the tailor (no matter how much it needs it.)
Depending on how old the "old" costumes are, the various skirts and suit jackets will have vanished from the character model while in the tailor (from the I5-ish era remake, as well as various reorganizations since then.) Fortunately, we also tended to get a *lot* of free costume change tokens....
If it's been a fair while, I'd say take a screenshot (outside of the tailor) and reference it when remaking the costume. -
Little more info on what they'd do, I suppose - can't say I'm enthralled with the idea, personally, but that's neither here nor there.
And I have to admit, reading the title, this was the first thing that came to mind. -
Quote:People are going to look anyway, attractive or not, pretty much regardless of what's being worn. It's called being human. Is this a difficult concept? There's nothing "ugly" about it. And it applies to men as well as women. This thread has taken an ugly turn.
I assume that women wear clothes that they think are comfortable and/or they look good in. This doesn't imply any consent to being ogled, by men or women.
Is this a difficult concept?
That said, there's a difference between, say, checking someone out as he or she walks past and getting up and following them around making comments. The first happens, don't sweat it. It's silly to get offended or outraged about. The second is when you get security (or make sure there's not toilet paper stuck to your shoe or something.) -
-
Only thing I'm really going to say "eh" about (and I'm ignoring the freeform bit) is the accolades. Personally, as they sit NOW, when you learn about them they're kind of a goad to try something you may not have thought of (running specific TFs, etc.)
That, I'd rather not have as a paid item - leave them free and discoverable in game.
But, more variety to them - yeah. -

Here's the thing. EATs (V or H or whatever else) aren't necessarily designed around some mechanic. The "E" indicates them tying the AT to a storyline - and personally I just don't see much of one with most PPD or the like.
*points down to the guide section* - have one on EATs there. Poke through. There are two that aren't in game that were mentioned, quite some time ago, that I'd still love to see. Coralax and the Blood of the Black Stream. (I'd also made up a Mastermind-ish Nictus - just to see the "other side" of the Kheldian war. Not in that guide, though.)
The hard suit... again, not so much, but it does remind me of a proposal some time ago for a "Mecha EAT." Unfortunately it died in a forum purge long ago... -
Quote:So the people that come up and post the same thing that's been posted a few hundred times before and start complaining "Don't tell me we know the engine can't handle this, or that it'd take a lot of work, my pie in the sky idea should be put into the game NEXT WEEK!" when the flaws are pointed out are the forum cartel? Or those that insist it's somehow evil to point out flaws or do anything but agree? When I say forum cartel, I am referring to the uninviting atmosphere that certain people (the forum cartel) promote on the forums due to their inability to use reason.
That's a new application of the term. -
Eh. Think I'm more a fan of the "put them in the tram" than giving them their own special building. Though I don't mind the thought of having the registrar handy in the same spots (instead of having to run back to Galaxy... ok, won't have to worry about that soon... Atlas or Oakes.)
-
Just playing around with an idea - don't think I've posted it before.
My first 50 was an Elec/Elec blaster. Kind of a 'signature character' for me (no, none of the MBs are elec/elec blasters.) I've remade that character (literally, new elec/elec blasters) on other servers to see how they've played at different points, and pretty much any electric set ends up with someone "related" to that character at some point. (Other dimensions, etc.)
Electric blast gets complained about, though, for feeling "weak." Missing a blast (because Voltaic Sentinel takes the place of a blast, basically.) I think part of it, as well, is an overestimation dev-side about how useful END drain would be. With multiple electric characters? Sure, it's useful - but it's not as crippling to NPCs it seems. And PVP... well, it was gutted from the get-go.
I also like the newer electric (control/melee) sets with their "chaining" mechanic. To me, this is more of "what sets Elec apart" than the END drain, as far as a noticable "signature."
So, add chaining to electrical blast. Specifically to Voltaic Sentinel in both the blast and assault sets. (I like sparky, but really, as a T9 it's a bit weak in the assault set.) Just because I think it'd be interesting. (While we're at it, and a little more out there, make Tesla cage occasionally zap or sap any OTHER enemy that gets near it. Though it'd take more of a power redesign, I think, turning it into a pet-type instead of a straight hold.) -
-
No.
Just because someone has to object, and it might as well be me.
Now that that's out of the way, on with any other comments. (Though I agree with Photon - if you're needing 100% of your HP, you're dead anyway and would likely want the T4 rez. Make a T4 green do something else - 65%-75% HP +some percent regen for 60 seconds.)
