Quote:I don't think I've ever really had to stop and think about an origin. They're fairly straightforward. Now, some people do have a decent argument for a dual origin (they rely on gadgets as much as their natural training, for instance,) but ambiguous? Not really. It's not even that useful for fleshing out given the arbitrary ambiguity of it. I don't know how many times I've sat there looking at an alien warrior thinking "well, at least I know it's not Magic".
As far as what they do - yes, with the branching tech and detection (like in Mender Ramiel's arc) I'd love to see more done with them.
Why they're around - I suspect they're very deeply baked into the character database as an artifact from Alpha (when Origin had a *huge* impact - determining how many powers you could take and how far you could advance them,) and that being able to remove/respec them is much, much more of an undertaking than we think (and could break far more than we suspect, past the obvious.) -
Quote:What bugs me about open world isn't "Griefers" - yeah, I've run into a few (hey, PVP heavy game like Aion, it's almost expected) but the other MMOs "Go kill x of these and bring me 5 bat nose hairs" ... and they're in a limited area, and *everyone* is going for them. Then it looks like I'll be making a lot more Praetorians if I want to continue to enjoy instanced missions. This open world crap is why I haven't made a new character in that other super hero MMO in almost 2 years.
Fortunately, so far the numbers needed are small (defeat 5 Hellions) and they've been respawning *really* fast. (Almost too fast, honestly.)
I don't think it'll be a problem. -
Please click on "CIty of Heroes Forums."
Click then on "Issue 21 VIP Feedback."
Leave beta feedback/suggestions in the appropriate place. Not because "You're WRONG!" to do it here, but because the devs will pay more attention to it there. They're *looking* there for beta feedback.
(FWIW, I agree, btw.) -
Quote:I suggested a while back the powers do just what post-Alpha level shifts do, specifically to *let* the player get more powerful in normal content without being lolfacerolleasy5minuteITF, and letting the powers really kick into overdrive during Incarnate content - yes, "stepped" (if you want to call it that) powers.
Incarnate powers exist because there is content in existence that makes them not only useful, but almost necessary. Using those powers in content that we trivialized without them years ago is going to make that content even more trivial.
What do you suggest? We make the game harder so Incarnates don't feel overpowered? That'll be REAL fair to the people who don't have or want Incarnate powers (yes, they do exist).
The content that really needs Incarnate level power gets Incarnate stuff at full strength. The content that the Incarnate powers at full strength trivializes? Well, they're not AT full strength for that. Maybe 50% - enough to see a noticable power bump, and yes it makes content easier, but enough that *non* incarnates dont' feel like they're given pity spots or aren't "powerful enough."
Like I said - they do it with level shifts, why NOT with the other powers? -
Quote:... or have more than 1-2 characters at that level.I read in these forums of people that have done 100s or trials, but these are extreme players and its not necessary unless you want all the pets and every T4.
I've got something like 26-28 50s at this point. No, I'm not going after T3-T4 on everything, or even most things, but even doing "Concentrate on one you like on each server," it gets grindy and tedious *fast.* And I don't even have a 50 on each server. Not quite half of them.
Add to that (stepping away from levels of power for a moment) the new, and really nonsensical, other rewards that burn a bunch of merits (I have to run a bunch of iTrials to... faint? Be out of breath? Really? And let's not get into costume pieces) - yeah. Grind, grind, and tedium.
The iTrials are (or can be) fun - once in a while. But if you want to make any progress, they are the *only* way to do so. (Yeah, conversion of shards, blah blah - you've seen the rate of conversion? That's not a serious option in the least.) Which is why *since the beginning* we've had people - including me - asking for solo and small team content. (And yet had people saying that was unreasonable... yeah. Really? Guess what, I love being able to unlock Alpha on my own time.) -
So don't play that way. I have few IO'd up (versus out, capped to everything, etc.) builds. Very little of mine runs at anything/x8 (and those tend to be tanks anyway - and I'm happier at x6 on most of those.)
Part of the problem is that you're on the forums - which, if you'd believed everything here, meant that 95% of doms are permadoms, nobody has under 300% recharge or 5 billion INF, and the various softcaps are where life begins.
Yeah, it gets a little annoying - and other than "doing it once" (such as a heavily incarnated ITF, which tends to go "Zap zap, ok, that was a fun 5 minute ITF, what now?) I tend to find that sort of thing - well, boring.
Find others that play the same way. Have fun with them. -
yeah...
In less than a month, the thread on this in tech issues and bugs will be a year old. And filled with "Three times today." "Five times today." "Four times, the last as I was coming to this thread to post this."
It's ridiculous. -
Quote:That's no way to refer to your soon-to-be-spouse.Still, since it looks like it will actually start on Thursday, I MIGHT be able to get a few missions in with my Dominator that I have just started to really enjoy.
Might be accurate, I know mine tried to be, but still....

More accurate to say there's only one "first time getting married." Enjoy it. -

How far in is your buddy?
There are a fair number of answers to this. Every AT is going to play differently - if he's playing a scrapper, quite a bit is going to be easier than, say, as a blaster or defender. Also, you should (by now) have been introduced to the Hero Corp. representative (or Fateweaver, villainside.) You can change how much higher mobs are than you, as well as the default for how many players - you'll see people talking about running, say, +4/X8 (which is the maximum setting) - this is mobs spawning like you were +4 to your level, and for a team of 8 players even when solo. (I don't recommend it at level 9.)
Some mobs are going to be much rougher, too. Later in the game, the rogue Vanguard (and to some extent the Cimerorans) can chew up and spit out Melee. Malta is always "fun," and Carnies and others do a fair bit of Psy damage (which a lot of armors are weak to.)
Alternately - run in Praetoria. Yeah, it's 1-20, but the mobs there tend to have a few tricks that can make them more difficult. -

Know what I find amusing (for a tangent, and given the mention of AE?)
This story: Project Aeon: The Future of Augmented Reality? Just for the title. -
Yeah, it would - it would make me shelve my PBs, for one. But we've been down that road already. I'm just waiting for that shoe to drop and maybe preparing to recreate one as an Energy/Energy blaster.

Question:
Why are you not posting this in the VIP Beta Feedback, where the devs will actually be LOOKING for said feedback, instead of S&I? I mean, that IS kind of the point of that section. Or at the very least sending the info in as a /bug (option: Suggestion/Feedback) ? -
Quote:Which... blah. I *really* wish we had the puffball as a customization option. I know we can use it and swap forms, but thematically the "puffball" was *part* of my PBs - going back to being the original Kheldian form.Light form had a new effect. It's now an aura instead of a form change.
As an aura (that you can't really tell is there,) well... meh. Yes, it *does* take something away from my Khelds and make them less fun. (Cue the numbers people saying that makes no sense. Don't care. There's more to a character than a spreadsheet.) Yes, the benefits are nice. But it does still take something away from them as a *character* for me. -
Well, they see the VIP beta, so it'd be separate from Closed beta, the way they normally do things. Which is good, cuts down on possible confusion.

Quote:Kind of suspected. Those extra keys take a fair bit of space. My bf has the G510. I have the original G15. They are almost exactly the same size.
Quote:The G15's LCD is fold-awayable, the G510's LCD is integrated into the board.

Since we get some gear talk here and folks might be interested-
I used to use the old Logitech G15 (v1) - loved that thing. 18 macro keys, responsive - only downside was its size. The v2, of course, gutted the number of keys.
Well, I got an email about a sale from logitech, and since there were a few things I'm looking at (wheel for racing games, maybe a side keypad or a mouse,) I went to the site... and kicked myself for not paying attention. They now have a G-510, which is back to the 18 macro keys from the v1, plus the (fixed, but bright) LCD display from the V2. Not sure where it sits size wise. But I am *really* tempted....
(Right now, my old G15 is sitting off to the side, as it was hooked up to another PC. I'm using a G110 - no LCD, but 12 G-keys which, admittedly, I don't use to the fullest atm.) -
Quote:Well, in a way....I know that it serves little to no point, but I would love it if these legacy zones would also be added to Ouroboros just like Galaxy is.
You *can* go back (in... one of the menders arcs) to "when you began," after all. And Outbreak is also a map in the arena, or at least part of it is (the area surrounding the smouldering pile of debris.) -
Breakout/Outbreak - You'll still be there until you finish the old tutorial.
Galaxy: You'll be teleported to New Atlas. -
I try to get a piece of artwork done for each character that hits 50. Some get more than one, some non-50s get them. I'd had a nice freebie that had been done of my Fire/Fire blaster (well, one of them) - Hot Purrsuit - earlier, but I hadn't commissioned a more detailed piece.
I'd gotten nice work done by Cric before (like Therra Malevola, a ways above, still one of the more popular bits I'd had done) and since he was available, I tapped him for this. Don't even think I mentioned her having super speed... Love how it turned out.

Outbreak and Breakout are going away. Galaxy City is the new tutorial/starter zone. It won't be a regular zone any longer.
