Miss the old G15?

Since we get some gear talk here and folks might be interested-

I used to use the old Logitech G15 (v1) - loved that thing. 18 macro keys, responsive - only downside was its size. The v2, of course, gutted the number of keys.

Well, I got an email about a sale from logitech, and since there were a few things I'm looking at (wheel for racing games, maybe a side keypad or a mouse,) I went to the site... and kicked myself for not paying attention. They now have a G-510, which is back to the 18 macro keys from the v1, plus the (fixed, but bright) LCD display from the V2. Not sure where it sits size wise. But I am *really* tempted....

(Right now, my old G15 is sitting off to the side, as it was hooked up to another PC. I'm using a G110 - no LCD, but 12 G-keys which, admittedly, I don't use to the fullest atm.)

My bf has the G510. I have the original G15. They are almost exactly the same size.

The G15's LCD is fold-awayable, the G510's LCD is integrated into the board.

I had the G15, but found I didn't really use the LED screen, so I got a G11. it still has the 18 keys. I love it.

So what are some of the cool things you do with all those macro keys

Kind of suspected. Those extra keys take a fair bit of space.

Yeah... I think I like that better. I don't think I ever folded the G15's down, really (it was nice having the media controls right there.) Having it integrated like that - I'd probably feel better with it. If the G15 v2 didn't get rid of so many macro keys, I might have picked that up just because of that.

Pretty much anything you can type in, you can set up as a macro. Or ahve them replicate other keys. IIRC there's a COH profile in the profile software -as well as profiles for quite a few other games. It can get a bit more intricate than what you can do with COH's macros/binds.

There was a thread on the logitech keyboards a while back where there were pictures:

There is an alternate key layout in this pictorial history of the G-Series keyboards:

For the most part the same set up for the Logitech G15 should work for the G13. Here are a few guides to help you get started:

Kenja's G15 Master Guide by CuppaKenja [I10]
Multiple Character G15 Macro Setup by Duck LOrange
G15 Ignore Spammer Macro Creation by Snow_Globe

I should note that you can assign your G-Keys to things like Shift+Num0 and then use /bind shift+numpad0 <commands> to personalize for each character.

Thanks for the heads up!
I have used nothing but Eclipse II keyboards for at least the last three years, and I absolutely love them. The backlighting in three different colors is what drew me to them to being with, but I absolutely adore the feel of the keys as well as the slightly smaller size compared to the G15. I have small hands for my height, and the Eclipse II fits perfectly.

The only issues I've ever had with them are that the paint tends to wear off some of the letters too quickly with heavy use (I used to do a TON of writing/typing), and I tend to wear space bars out on the right since that's where I strike them. Popping the space bar off and applying a little RTV to it fixes that problem quite easily, however.

I find it incredibly funny that you posted this today, because just this afternoon I received two more new Eclipse IIs that I had ordered. I'm stockpiling for whenever they disappear; I'm not a big fan of the Cyborg boards or the Eclipse III.

Only annoyance I have is for some reason, my client doesn't like the G keys using "/" - if I don't include a small (I use a .025 delay, IIRC) delay, it stops at the opening "/" press :/

Just wanted to mention, the G510 has customizable backlighting, with a "colorwheel" style choosing, so you can get pretty much any color other than pure black and pure white (you can get really damn close though). My bf has two color profiles: one at mid-brightness blue for daytime and one really dark blue (almost to the point of not seeing the keys) for nighttime (much easier on the eyes in dim/no lighting).
