heh.
We have a ton of slots. Play around, when you find a character that really clicks - name, look, powerset, and just "fun" wise - stick with it.
<-- 170-some characters, at least one of each, including epics, to 50 heroside, and everything but a corr and VEATs to 50 villainside. It's doable.
If you're having trouble sticking with a character - find a regular group to play with, even if it's just once a week, and just use that character. You said, after all, you have one around 36. Find a good group to play with. Check your server forums and see who else would like to set aside, say, three hours one day a week to play just those characters (that should be a good chunk of a story arc, typically.) And just *do* it. Group stays together 'til everyone's 50. -
I don't recall that in the least. They may have set that as a goal for themselves, or something they'd like to achieve - but that's not the same as a promise. Honestly, they can't even *promise* I15 will be out in the first half of this year - they'd like to, it's their goal, but the office could be flattened by an asteroid overnight while the data centers and backups burst into flames, which would cause more than a slight delay. *shrug*
In any case, though, I13 and I14 were initially part of the same issue. Some see I14 as "issue 13.5," and the various adjustments to mobs for players to use did take up the dev team's time. -
Why should it not be?
There's a filter there, after all, if you want to limit results to something faction specific. But really, it's a video game for our characters.
Or, to put it another way - I'm a law abiding citizen, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to play Saints Row II if I want to. Why shouldn't that hold true for our characters?
Edit:
Besides, forcing that to be faction-only has other issues:
1. It assumes a LOT about your character. What if your villain is only going to the same extremes as the locals in the Rogue Isles, but would otherwise be considered "Heroic?"
2. It would mess up publishing. If I have an idea or a tweak to a story arc, it doesn't matter if I'm on my Stalker or Controller, I can make it. Force it to be faction-published, and my Villain arc might not be publishable or editable by my Controller. (Potentially.) -

'tis not what he's asking. He knows about the email. He just wants to know if he can rename her again later.
IE:
Genericed character.
Sends email, gets "Ex Generic Character" as a name.
He wants to know if, say, a month from now, he can buy a rename and rename her "SuperBee" or some such, or if he'd be stuck with "Ex Generic Character." -

i love to pug, i meet new people do new and strange thing but i have only ever kicked 1 person from a tf before. it was an itf and i was running it with MOSTLY sg mates the 2 pugs i got to join were good players. that is to say they were pulling there waight adn doing it well. but neither of them would follow intrustions at all. on the first mission they kept going off on there own way rather then go were the team was going. they could take the mobs so it did not bother me. on mission 2 i find out that neither of them have they chat windows up so they COULD/WOULD not lessen to anything anyone said to them. when i proceed to blow the crystals and they because they did not read the intrustions die i gat a bunch of tells from them going "if you do that again we will quit your tf"
on the last mission befor we take out romi i am asked my an sg mate if they could take 5 for a bio/smoke break, so i tell the team smoke them if you got them time for a bio break, be back in 5 ish min. the 2 pugs are already trying to clear around romi when they die and finaly read what is hapening they start calling everyone names. making as many homophobic names as they can type.
we take down romi 3 times then i kick them both, sent a pitition siting there behavour as the cause. 2 min later when they fig out what has happend they start sending me tells again saying that they are going to pitition me for kicking them and more homophobic names. i block them, they hop onto another account and start it again.second pitition
honistly i should have kicked them long before then but considering after that they never came back to the game, i feel kinda good about it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Those people were jerks, but you should've just kicked them before taking advantage of their service. I would kick them upon the second mission, and not think twice about it.
[/ QUOTE ]
/this.
Honestly, if they sent me a tell like that in the first paragraph? My reply would be "let me save you the trouble," /kick. Well, add player notes, one star, let team know, /kick.
If they're not going to play as part of the team, and listen to instructions and what everyone else is doing - they're not part of the team. -
You can always purchase a rename, it doesn't matter if they were generic'd, renamed in the past, etc.
-
All the above reasons.
Plus, really - don't assume you're going to use it all on one group. Have a patrol coming up from behind? Hit them with that and go back to the first group. Clean them up later. -
Efficiency Expert Pither makes up for it. (And I rather like the challenge of trying to beat his timed missions, honestly.)

Also, for the global list, don't they have to be offline at the time as well? I thought I heard that somewhere as well...

I don't believe so. -
170 or so. And plenty of time to get them all. given I tend to hop over and play mine, well... no, I don't find it an issue at all. (Even if I decide to get them right away, it's not too bad.)

I can't think of an "arachnos fort" type location there right offhand.

some peeps on here are just rude...

I have yet to meet an uncouth marshmallow chick.
(And as for the name... Black Ice seems a touch obvious - remember, a name wipe is only going to hit inactive under level 6, so I highly doubt in a case like that it'd help. Something like Arctic Eve, perhaps, or a number of synonyms could help.) -
This is true, Sharker, but showing nonexistant items is rather... well, silly. And if there are enough of them, what are they doing on the back end, performance wise - with that first, long pause when you hit the market?
(No, I don't think it'd be THAT big of an impact on performance, but it may as well be mentioned.)
And as far as using it to store INF... ouch. If one of those ever DID come into existance, someone would be ticked.
If they did do the clearing, I'd imagine they'd give warning ahead of time.

Honestly? I think that the developers would need to do a lot of revamping the arcs, but on terms of space? I think that it would just mean adding in more objectives to counteract the switching going on.
For instance, mission one switches on a switch for an optional objective.
Mission two now needs two different outcomes; one for on, and one for off.
There may need to be some extra dialog present, as well, to work for it.
But you see, it's not like it's going to take up tons more... Just a bit restraining to those reaching the limits.
[/ QUOTE ]
I know, and it's that last sentence I was pointing out. I don't think it'd be an issue on any of my arcs, for instance - I'm rather cautious with custom mobs.
Heck, if it could lead to a separate *mission* depending on success or failure, I'd be even happier. >.> but that's a bit more out there on the wish list. -

Short answer: take all your salvage and recipes and sell them on the market for 90% of the average of the last 5 prices. Use that money to buy DO's if you are level 12-22 or SO's if you are level 22+. For each power, pick the 1 or 2 most important aspects and put in 3 enhancements for each aspect.
The longer answer are better, if you bother to read them, but if you don't then this will suffice.
[/ QUOTE ]
Eh, I'd argue the last part of that.
Then again, I tend (in SGs I have a 50 in) to make level 15 common IOs for lowbies quite often, just so nobody feels they have to buy DOs. Save the money.
Generally, Acc and END do best for most attacks, given peoples worries about endurance at low levels. -

Considering the requirements of past name-wips, is another one necessary.

That was not the way the question was posed.
The question was posed without any clarifications as to the reasoning behind it.
Usually when a question is posed in such a manner it is to illicit certain kinds of responses.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's about as simple a question as "Do people like strawberries?" It was asking an opinion. Now, yes, you can assume that the OP is in favor of it, or he'd not have asked - but asking for opinion doesn't necessarily require clarification of reasoning.
Now, he could do so, yes.
"I think it's about time for another name wipe. We've had a few reactivation weekends and trials, and probably have a lot of low level names that won't be used again. With the upcoming expansion, should they do another name wipe?" would fit your criteria, I'm pretty sure... but he doesn't need to state it to ask people's opinions or start discussion.
It was, frankly, a perfectly fine question. -

I guess name wipes arent popular... I can understand why...
[/ QUOTE ]
Given their current requirements (inactive for 90 days, characters under level 6,) I have far less of an issue with it as far as popularity. I just don't particularly think it helps much - solely on the basis (and yes, this is pure assumption) that if it *did,* or NC... er, Paragon Studios thought it was a big enough issue, we'd see it more often.
Then again, with an expansion coming up, I'd wager they'd consider running it again closer to the release date. (I *believe* COV's release was the first time they ran it.) -

If you choose Freedom or Virtue as your main server, be prepared to take your chances, and don't complain if that happens to you. =)
[/ QUOTE ]
This is plainly false. In the old days, if Freedom or Virtue filled up to a "maximum" capacity they would lock it until a certain number of people left. Until they did, no one else could get in. That stopped a long time ago.
Now, when the server population reaches a threshhold level they begin locking it for a few seconds, then unlocking it on a cycle. The longest I've had to wait to get in during the last two Double XP Weekends or the Anniversary Week was two minutes. That's it. If you log in and you see Freedom or Virtue greyed out (locked), just click back and log a second time. Odds are it will be unlocked the next time.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is true. I still suggest, though, not putting all your eggs in one basket - if you go on Freedom, find a West coast server as well, as there are (rare) network issues either in a data center or elsewhere on the 'net that can prevent you from reaching half the servers, as well as giving you an alternate if you feel Freedom is too busy.
From a little cut-paste I have dealing with starting on another server -
[ QUOTE ]
What you want to consider is a west coast server. Those are:
Champion
Guardian
Justice
Protector
Virtue

[ QUOTE ]
Ack, I guess I'm a bit too new to know what this is? Could someone explain?
Have they in the past wiped out everyones names and it be a free-for-all to get back the name you had?
[/ QUOTE ]
They've done a "name wipe" twice. This frees up names on inactive accounts (and other criteria that have changed.)
The first time, it was "Account inactive for 90 days, characters under 35." The second time, after seeing the results of the first, they lowered it to 90 days and characters under level 6.
This does not *delete* the names (or generic them,) and if you have an active account it doesn't affect you at all. If you ARE affected, it just marks the name as - well, "claimable."
Example:
You make Sgt. Firehair. You get him to level 4, log off, and forget about him.
Active account: You're not affected if they run the name script.
Inactive for 90 days: The name is marked as "Available."
Now, if you resubscribe and nobody else has made "Sgt. Firehair," you still have your character with that name. It's no longer available to anyone else. If, between the time the script to free names is run and the time you re-up, someone else DOES make Sgt. Firehair, you log in and he's been renamed Generic 123 456 789. You should, I believe, get an email where you can submit a replacement name, but don't quote me on that.
Edit:
And I agree - this was a perfectly valid question, hardly a troll. -

I love the idea, but the devs that write content for the game don't have access to this function so I wouldn't hold my breath.
[/ QUOTE ]
And you know this... How?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because it doesn't do it now.
more properly, I suppose, they *have not had* access to the function. Whether they've come up with it and do internally now is anyone's guess.
That said... yeah, I'd love to see it. It'd play havoc with some of the near-limit arcs that get made, but it'd still be interesting. -
They stay there.
Edit:
I don't know about *banned,* but someone asked about this ... I believe while the issue was still in beta, and we were told they'd stay up. (Of course, if there's a change that makes the arc unplayable, it can't get fixed, but it's still on the server - so who knows what they'd do in the future.)
