Can a once "generic'ed" character ever be renamed?

I got my first character generic'ed recently - not because she was a copywrite/trademark violation, but because her name was a pun basedon a swear word. Honestly, I figured it would happen if I got reported, but I didn't mean it to be malicious or anything, so I rolled the dice.

I lost. I logged in last night to find the insect-themed villainess formerly known as Bee-yotch was now GenericXXX239blahblahblah. I know I need to e-mail customer service with replacement name suggestions and they will pick one and rename her. My question is, am I then forever locked into that name? If I have them rename her Bee Lass for example and later discover Lady Sting (or any better name than Bee Lass) is available, can I purchase a rename token for her, or are formerly generic'ed toons new names unchangeable by the player?

Check the E-mail address associated with your account, there should be a message for you.

The normal process is that you submit a selection of 3 names to the GMs who make the chnage for you.

You should have received an email stating that you were genericked, and how to petition for a rename. You'll have to give a couple name examples, they'll check them for non-infraction status, availability, etc, and rename you.

You might have several go-rounds with a GM (or three) before you get a new name while they check availability and whatnot.

'tis not what he's asking. He knows about the email. He just wants to know if he can rename her again later.

IE:
Genericed character.
Sends email, gets "Ex Generic Character" as a name.

He wants to know if, say, a month from now, he can buy a rename and rename her "SuperBee" or some such, or if he'd be stuck with "Ex Generic Character."

Yes, this.

When a character is generic'd, you automatically get a free rename for it, as long as at least one of your submitted names is approved.

Yes, you can buy a rename later. I don't think there is any kind of block on renaming a character that has been generic'd.

Whoops, my bad. that's what i get when reading when sick and tired (of being tired and sick...hurr.)

I don't think there's a ban on purchasing renames. What are they gonna tell you? "We don't want your money!" Unlikely.

I would have rolled the dice too if I'd thought of that one. Sorry you got generic'd. As everyone else said, I can't see why you wouldn't be able to purchase a rename token.

I suppose "Beetch" would probably get the ax as well...

Based on the fact that you aren't allowed to just rename the character yourself when it gets generic'ed, I thought there might be some restriction on renaming that character again after the GM does it.

Not that I'm going to risk further punative action, but I checked last night and Bee-yotch is once again available, when it seems like it should have been blocked.

They keep notes on this stuff and...I would imagine if you get genericed and rename your character back to the name it was generic-ed for...they're probably not going to be so happy with you.

Heh, blame the cold medicine on this one: Have you tried the name "Bee Itch" >.< cos beestings hurt, and you're allergic they itch...

I so wish I had made that name my first choice last night. I doubt they would've let me have it, but if they had, I wouldn't have to worry about losing it, or getting in trouble for it. That said, no, I don't know if it's even available.

Well I'm fairly certain I wouldn't have gotten Bee Itch through given that they rejected three far more innocent names I suggested based on them violating some rule that I cannot fathom.

I'm hesitant to mention what the three names are because I have tried to appeal the rejection (not sure if you're allowed to do that). All three are currently available and I'd hate for someone to see this thread and grab them before I found out whether I was able to change the GM's mind.

I hope it's OK to post that I had a positive CS experience.

The name I ended up getting Anna-Phylactic was rejected yesterday along with Annie Phylactic and AnaphyIactic for the aforementioned unfathomable rule violation. I wrote back to CS and politely asked if they could explain what rule those names violated. I also explained that I thought word play based on the medical term anaphylactic shock seemed like a good choice for a bee-themed character with electrical powers.

I got a very nice response back over night saying that there was some misunderstanding or misinterpretation on the GM's part and that all three names were fine. Now this isn't nearly the same as having a character wrongly deleted, or an account wrongly suspended/banned, but it does go to show that mistakes happen and that patience (something that is not typically my strong suit) and politeness are often all that is required to clear up those mistakes.

I'd really like to get rid of that hyphen though, so if anyone reading this has Anna Phylactic or Anaphylactic on Virtue and isn't using it...

I kind of like "Bee Lass."
