I don't know if it's how he was *written* (in most instances) or "What ended up on the cutting room floor." I mean, the final "switch" where he gives Sidious his pledge to follow him was just... poorly done. It wasn't just acting or writing, it was the whole package.

On the other hand, the second series, with the relationship between Anakin and Padme? The book had more detail that had things make sense - from padme's family pressuring her to step out of politics and lead a normal life, having a family, etc. to the two of them developing ... well, an actual relationship. The movie? It goes from "Oh, you're that cute Orphan Annie" to "You're a kinda creepy stalkery sort" to "ZOMG gotta jump you NOW!" with no real rhyme nor reason.

A lot of development would have helped - and a lot of it was sacrificed for speed and effects. I generally enjoyed the moveis, TBH, but... yeah, they could have been better.

Heh. I think that was two shots in a stock Nova. >.>

I was so sad to see the Marauder (and the other "dark" mechs - booo, Harmony Gold) disappear in MW3. And wasn't that fond of MW4 - it was OK, but too restrictive in what went where. OK, it was (probably) truer to the actual PnP design, but that's no fun.

SO wanting to see what's up with MW5. (And I want a legit Battlemaster, just because. I know it could be hacked in to - think it was Mercs - but, sheesh. Mechcommander 3 as well, PC, please. )
  4. Oh, absolutely. (Though I'm partial to the Marauder, honestly. Nothing says "Avon calling" like three PPCs to the face.)

Of course, via netmech you had to make sure the other guy didn't do something like take a Timberwolf and - what was it, rename the file so it was showing up as a Nova or Stormcrow. Caught a few people doing that. Which is easy to do (catch, that is) when everyone in the match has a copy of the same file getting sent to them. Go peer to peer games

I will point out, sir, that in that *very game* (or rather the free Netmetch/DOS download addon - over 14.4 modems no less) I defeated much larger mechs with a Nova loaded down with machine guns. Ran Novas through most of my time in the Black Sheep during the Registry years. ([CBS]val_Halla)

And that an Elemental plummeting 2 kilometers straight down WILL die, but brings enough force to take an assault mech with it. (My favourite PVP win *ever.* Spire of Destiny, Elemental vs ... think it was a Daishi. 100 tonne. "I see you on radar, but where are you?" "Be there in a sec." *boom.*)

    God, I loved that game.

  7. Started replying, then realized I was pretty much just rewording what I said in my OP in reply to EG (who has this odd delusion that VEATs have actual story arcs, so he's obviously insane. )

All I can say is that the mechanic's clunky, even if I feel the *concept* is interesting, and the timing and decision to branch shouldn't be forced. (And personally, I'd much rather have seen the branching take place a good ten levels earlier - but it's too late for that now.)

This, many times over. Though, frankly, it only reinforces the OP to me. Especially with the "You don't have enough rep to budge mine" nonsense.
  9. I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the mysterious NPC in Nerva. She seems almost like the Woodsman, but not quite - the Woods Wight, always bemoaning the loss of the tower-like tree in Mercy she used to be bound to.

Then there's the former friend of Hero One, now piled under costume requests - Laden Jay.
  10. This has been suggested in various forms before, but this post seems to be starting where most of the conversations end (and with the version of it I'm most happy with) - the instanced, signed-up-for bank mission.

Of course, it doesn't *have* to be hero vs villain. Two villain groups wanting the same thing from the bank works for me, too. Hero vs hero... doesn't make sense, but with GR coming, who's to say it's not a "grey" area or mistaken identity.

Currency... I don't think we need a new one. Expand "Bounty" across all PVP zones, and make it persistent so you don't lose it when you zone. (OK, I'm not sure how that'll work with RV's Temporal points, but overall, I'd say use bounty. It's the quicker picker upper.)

Stealth - is tricky, especially with so many dedicated PVPers already at the cap (and some ATs easy to reach it with.) A few possibilities:
    • Temp powers you can pick up - from the already-extant IR goggles to the (IIRC) stealth suppression fields from currently-defunct base raids.
    • Limit stealth to a certain radius.
    • Passive anti-stealth - you're running with a money bag. Money drops out. Follow the trail. Yes, it's harder to do, but with a slightly higher detection radius (or the second point - base stealth amounts?) it'd work out - much like the water in BB and SC. Watch for the splashes.
    • Make the PVP objectives counter each other - remove 3 items and recover them to one of 3 points (or however many are on a team.) Even if they're stealthed, the other team could retrieve and return them - which, of course, would require counter-stealth on both teams. Would probably have to be timed.
As for rewards - We already have some to work off of. The temp powers tend to work well,so perhaps turning in bounty for a choice of any PVP zone reward (including shivans, nukes, and the RV mini-heavies?) PVP IOs already have a chance to drop (if they're available with bounty, it'd have to be a high amount. But perhaps as part of a PVP-only random roll?)

With GM events now being announced over the chat system, there's no reason not to reduce the spawn rate: people won't miss out on them like used to be the problem.
...you do realize you just somewhat contradicted yourself, right? The spawn rate didn't go *up* with announcements. In point of fact, several GMs *do* spawn less frequently now (Lusca leaps to mind) because there can only be one of them (in most cases) in the zone. (Which, honestly, brings up another point - PS needs to update the giant monster page, which is pretty incomplete anyway.

(There's supposed to be - I'm assuming the code is broken on some, though, as I've seen multiple Deathsurges, and I *believe* Croatoa may consider "Warring Jack and Eochai" different from the normal spawns since they're part of the war event.)

Besides, even *with* them being announced, few are rapid spawners. I think I see a warning about the Kraken twice a week at best. I don't think I've seen a Jurassik warning in weeks. By contrast, Steel fires, Skyway raves and Scrapyarder riots are practically spammed.

Nothing massive mind you. Maybe guaranteed recipe (bronze roll?), and 5 merits for most. That would make it actually worth the time it takes to kill them. Because yes, with a good team a GM goes down fast, but not "two merits" fast.
Honestly... yes, yes they do. The only one I can think of that doesn't is Deathsurge, and that's because he runs (or at least used to run) the second you look at him funny, hops onto the rooftops, etc... which is more irritating than challenging in how it draws out the fight. GMs can, and do, drop in less than a minute.

Except Lusca, I agree. That's more of an "event" than a GM.
  15. While I get what you're going after, my main point of disagreement with it is one of bringing up yet another set of "unique currency" into the game for each zone this is done with.

PVP zone bounty is the worst, since it's not persistent. Get killed, get distracted for a sec and go to the base instead of zone hospital - all that bounty goes away. (Actually, come to think of it, RV's "Temporal points" are arguably the worst, since they last an even more limited time and are useful for less.)

Vanguard merits, by contrast, are better. Yes, you have to become a memeber of vanguard to begin with, but after that, any Rikti you defeat *anywhere* give you a chance for merits. You're very limited in what you can USE them for, though.

Of course, then we have mission merits and AE tickets. Persistent, you can use them whenever, and you can get them anywhere (or pretty much anywhere, in the case of AE tickets, given the prevalence of the AE buildings.)

I do also have to say I disagree with the premise that adding more PVP "stuff" will get more people PVPing. You'll get a few people more in to farm, then they'll leave and the PVP zones will be as empty as ever. The carrots just aren't working. The solution is not, frankly, more carrots. PVP just doesn't interest this playerbase all that much. It hasn't since the introduction of the arenas.

Also, as far as zone/content specific recipe *sets?* Eh. I have no problem with "Do X content, unlock this piece" for the most part, but tying IO sets to (say) Cimerora, or the RWZ, or Boomtown just waters things down too much. If you want to tie them thematically? Sure. I don't care if you come up with another "Positron's Bald Head" or "Lady Jane's Skirt" set by name or theme. But tying it to specific content... eh.

I'll also say that all of those ideas punish the altaholic. It's great if you just have one fifty you love to grind every time you play. But I, who enjoys playing other sets at varying levels, joining themed teams, and going "where the action is" - well, I have yet to get a full set of Vanguard armor, for instance. On *any* character. Given how this game encourages alts, yet another set of currency and zone-specific items just seems to run counter to that, to me.
  16. *logs out, logs into one of many khelds, proceeds to tell AEldians they're idiots.*

    ... if only.

when I go to them I can easily see where and how to change things, but everything is grey and the game won't let me click on the circles next to the powers to change them.
Now I do realize that not all powers can be changed; but, as an example, Fire Blast is listed as a changable power. But, nothing. please help. thanks.

Also, side question, where do you get the shields?
    First, what powersets?
You mention fire blast, so you should be (at least) good with that one. You can change powers individually or as a group.

    (Tweaking wording)

Looking at Fire Blast, if everything's grey, you're on Original. Clicking on the green arrows left and right will cycle you through "Original," "Bright Fire," and "Dark Fire."
Bright and Dark Fire will, by default, load up something close to the original colors. (Should show orange and grey, as I'm looking at it now.) You can change the powers individually or as a group.

Individually, pick a power (say, Flares.) The colour palette will drop down on the right. As you pick powers, the power will illustrate what it looks like with those colors.

If you want them copied across all powers in the powerset, pick "Match colors across powerset" underneath the palette. You should see all the colored dots change to match the new coloring - IF "bright fire" or "dark fire" are selected above. Make sure a colored power is selected first. You can also pick across all powers - if it doesn't go to both powersets, go back to the one you want, make sure the other powerset is also set to a tintable selection (bright fire, dark fire, etc.)

You can also change them individually (which will make the listing up top list as "Custom," mixing Original, Bright Fire, and Dark Fire.)

Either way, pick the power, pick the colors, THEN pick
  18. Glad you found them. Yeah, after a while you'll get used to some of their "hiding spots."

Not to mention that during combat most comic books have the main character think and react, which is at least 3 or 4 pages.

Extend the boss fight that you see in game to have dialog during the fight (which most big fights have), and you easily have two books.

But yeah, if all you do is talk to contact, get mish, click through text, open door, fight, call contact, click through text again, you can do that in one comic page.
I would make a suggestion for you.

    Go to the Player Guides.

    Search on "Kheldian Backstory Guide."

Note who wrote it. Then come back and try to tell me that I don't pursue backstory/story information, ignore clues, dialog, and souveniers and the like.

My first SOA to 50 was my Widow. I didn't find *playing* her particularly enjoyable, but I kept on because she was farthest along the SOA "storyline." When I hit the ridiculous two-mission "arc," then came here and asked if that was an anomaly or not - and was told, no, the rest of the "arcs" were single mission shots, ending with "Click on Kalinda, then go watch a forced movie trying to explain a metagame mechanic (power proliferation) so you can beat up statesman" - which even the people here called shoddy, I nearly deleted the character. Not for play reasons, though she's still one of my least enjoyable characters, but because of the exceedingly disappointing storyline. One of my friends who heard my reaction to the arc *as I finished it* can back me up on that.

So, yes, I *do* pay attention to the story and what it *lacks.* If instead I were, as you put it, one of those who: As far as being disappointed with the AT itself - I should probably have started with a Crab. At 25 I'm enjoying its *playstyle* more than my Widow or Bane the entire run to 50 (40 in the case of the bane.)

    Quote:

Had it been "Oh, that one's a bit weak, but the others pick up again afterward," I'd have no complaints. I'd be right alongside saying "don't' get disappointed at that level, all the other arcs are worth it." I'd probably have done a similar guide, combining what's in the AT's specific arcs with what we know from other sources like Phipps, for SoAs.

To be perfectly clear, so there's no misunderstanding, I complain about it because I think the AT deserves better as an Epic AT.

It's not against its design. Mission dropping is given with *very* few restrictions - it can't be timed, or a badge mission, or part of a TF/SF (or give "above average rewards") and only one can be dropped every three days. That's pretty much it. (Barring one or two missions - for whatever reason, the Rescue Lady Jane mission is now undroppable, and I know I've dropped that irritating one in the past.)

With AE, we have *multiple* dev commentaries about, and actions reinforcing, what they did not mean it to be used for (farming, PLing, etc.) Show me something similar for mission dropping to back up your statement.

(edit) I'll also point out that when the mission drop feature was added, it was once every 7 days. That was reduced, at request, to one every three days. I highly doubt there are so many missions out there that are not able to be completed that this reduction in timeframe was required. And we know they datamine dropped missions and know full well "Oh, so-and-so dropped a really grey mission of theirs." The dev team is not ignorant of this, and if they felt it was abusive or otherwise problematical, they'd have said something in the last three years and a month we've had it (introduced in a patch, 09/20/2006, per the wiki's collection of patch notes.)

    Quote:
Also, you could ask for the star.
Or, I could just be allowed to drop the mission without messing around with the team's current makeup. Prior to SSKing, I could just drop the mission without *having* to ask for the star - or having to leave the team for a moment, or anything else. It was just *boom,* done.

This ability has been lost with SSKing. Thus my request for it to be reinstated in this way.
  24. Situation:
No matter what the level you're actually at in relation to the team, everyone but the team leader is SK'd under the new "SSK" system.

I check my mission list, notice I have a mission that's much lower than my others - as well as the level of anyone else on the team. It's not timed, it's not a badge mission, honestly not that interesting of a mission. I want to drop it and get something more current the team might want to run.

    Result?
"You cannot drop a mission while sidekicked/lackeyed."

    Request:
Remove this prohibition from the game, now that we have no *option* but to be SK'd/exemped. (Well, other than dropping team or soloing.)

It's a minor irritation - but it's going to be MUCH more common now.
  25. Just as a side note, there already *is* a GM in Boomtown - Babbage. Shows up somewhere along the north side of the zone, one of four or five potential spawn points.
