I was trying to think of an answer, then realized many of my answers were "depending on the AT." But - and I'm using "low spawning" here as "low level," since that's where they're really worst - ones I hate seeing in general:
Vahzilok. For slows and toxic damage. VERY bad for a lowbie. And don't forget... *Boom* if you can't interrupt (followed by a rez and another explosuion if you have REALLY bad luck.)
Mu. END drain and -recovery on something using TOs or DOs and that has no recovery ANYWAY is just... not... fun.
Most everything else I can think of are either higher level, bad for one AT/powerset but not another, or workable with good pulling and tactics. -
Quote:The COV side cape mission has nothing to do with the time capsule, so no.For those of us who don't have characters who could earn a cape but haven't, what changed about it? And does that affect the CoV-side cape mission?
The first part of the mission is the same - talk to three people, though you get more info on justin greene in the clues. The second part has changed - including location - and it's two missions. (Nothing horridly difficult, and it makes sense with how they structured it and current lore.) -
-
Thread intent aside -
One thing that didn't come into this - the PVE mobs are designed at a certain power level. They're meant to be there. They dont' complain when they're defeated, they don't decide not to come back to PVE.
PVP before - wasn't, for some, fun (and I don't mean in the "I hate PVP" way, I mean in the "I can't compete" way.) Some builds I avoided taking into the zones, others I felt were fine.
I get what the devs were trying to do. And I agree with what they were *trying* to do - make PVP more accessible to more people. Yes, facing an experienced PVPer, a newbie's going to die most likely. But it was the intent of trying to even things out - I don't think Mac, for example, would argue that wasn't the intent, or a desirable outcome.
Obviously, it didn't work. Suppression the way it's dealt with in PVP isn't all that intuitive - ok, I see when attacking, sure. Or even when attacked. But when taking an inspiration? Really? And quite honestly, with the SSK changes to how exemplaring affects powers, I'd call the low end zones just flat out broken now for PVPing with a lowbie. (I'll tend to take a lvl 15-18 into BB gauge how they're working, or at least used to. A shivan run was a nice benchmark - can I effectively take down a firebase in one run from full health? Now, not only do the powers not work - but I may be facing someone with lvl 30 powers on a "25." Siren's was nice before with no Tier9s of any sort. Now, all you're missing is the tier9 on the secondary. And I haven't seen anyone in the zones, period, for a few months now, barring some PVP IO farmers for a bit.)
If they'd done the changes a bit at a time, then further tuned and tweaked, as opposed to one big all out change, maybe it'd be different. *shrug*
PVE challenge can be added by the devs just like they did with the cimerorans and rogue vanguard - unexpected abilities and toughness via various NPC powers. Given the batallion's not in the game, I'd say not to expect "You must have IOs to fight" style groups.
And as far as "IO'd characters only, please," well - I haven't run into it myself. But IOs mean jack as far as how good a player is. IOs don't play the game. IOs don't cause or prevent team wipes. Only the player does. A team leader that *only* wants IOd characters is going to miss good players - and IMHO isn't doing a great job. Which is fine with me, as they wont' be inviting me, or many of the players (who for the most part know the game intimately) I play with. Their loss. -
Quote:I have two thoughts -Giving an AT something unique in a powerset(s) will continue the incentive for people to keep playing that AT. An MM is a great example since their primaries can't be ported to any other AT. I have 2 at 50 and will consider a 3rd for GR. They being different makes want to come back again for that AT.
1. Similar but non-identical powersets, I'm fine with. I *like* having Pain Dom (which can do some debuffing as well) and Empathy. I don't mind the "theme" argument - which GR is going to make invalid anyway. Doing one-per-AT, though... eh, not so much. (Besides, quite a few have quite different secondaries - every Stalker secondary, for instance. If they gave /Nin to, say, Scrappers, it would need somethign changed just because of Hide. Doms have Assault sets. It's the combination, though, that makes the AT what it is.)
2. Something unique for each AT? Yes, work on the inherent. Better yet, work on the *interactions* between them. Stalkers and control sets are a nice, if basic, example - Held (and slept?) enemies can be critted on even out of hide by the Stalker, as I recall. Now, yes, some sets do this anyway (debuffs making enemies easier to hit/hit for more/not hit as often by them,) but coming up with other interactions could be interesting - and wouldn't have to be constrained by red/red and blue/blue ATs alone. It'd be hell to balance, I'm sure.
(Also, as far as the stalker - they *do* do more than one thing with the AS, by fearing enemies around a successful strike, lowering the return attack.) -
Quote:You didn't notice the "Invalid target" coming up when you tried to pick your pets to apply the buff?magic set rules with its random buff powers to allies or PETS!,
am a mm, so a random 20m buff on all my pets, is nice to have
Or, feel free to. I do know someone who uses it more frequently. And yes, I've heard someone talk about having their "defective android" character - Self Destruct is set on auto.Quote:magic is hands down the best and the cyborg Self-Destruct Power is a joke, trust me, i seen a friend who used it, don't even think twice about it
I've used the pieces in the Cyborg pack on non cyborgs, as well. More options = good. They also have the "Combat auras" (available from level one) and, for giggles, a few emotes including the robot dance. -
Quote:You don't need a badge to progress with a mission arc. They don't throw a "You need this badge" in halfway through. So, no, "hunting is hunting" is not true. None of the ones you mention are even needed to unlock a contact. So other than "personal list of shinies," they're not the same thing by any means. We're talking the difference between "My commute to work is a traffic-snarled, poorly laid out mess with no other options" and "I wish there were an easier route between my Ferrari and Lamborghini dealers." Getting "all the shinies" is a luxury. Having to work at some of them - oh well.I understand that, however hunting is hunting. I use the red side badges as an example of the disparity in hunting red side vice blue side in general.
Besides, I'd put money down that you'll pick up Going Rogue and work that villain through the side switching process at least once - which means your badge complaint is *already in process of having a workaround.* The Carnie hunt is not. -
$10 is already cheaper than most other games out there, and there are no restrictions (other than NA-NA or EU-EU.) And you already get freebies - more slots every year, free respecs you don't have to wait for an issue, run a trial, get a recipe or pay for, and more.

Quote:Hunt mission (50 carnies,) not badges (however many Master Illusionist-spawned Ills.) The hunt missions are often restricted to a specific zone, as well, which means you can't even go in to a newspaper mission to do them.[gets on soap box]
I'll make you a deal. I'll hunt your "hard-to-get" blue side Carnies for you if you hunt my red side...
200 Legacy Chain lieutenants
200 Banished Pantheon masks
100 Troll bosses
100 Outcast bosses
100 Rulaaru Overseer bosses
100 Skull bosses
100 Nemesis bosses
100 Warrior bosses
I'll take your "hard-to-get" blue side Carnies any day of the week.
I play both blue and red side, and I'm sorry... but I have no sympathy for blue side hunting badges when 99% of the time you have several neighborhoods of several zones to earn them.
The disparity between earning "hard-to-get" hunting badges on the red side vice blue is ridiculous
[puts away soap box] -
Quote:With GR, they won't be restricted per side. Want to make a good Pain Domination character? You'll be able to.OH COME ON! We've almost finally got away from the ridiculous notion of our "morality" deciding what powers we can have. Now you want to re-introduce this crap? Archetypes are a sadly necessary evil. Anything which prevents us from breaking the molds is BAD.

Quote:You assume people would actually pay attention (see also "What are enhancers/enchantments/those round things?" in broadcast.) Personally, I'd say LFM flag first, for those who /tell everyone they see they want a team.*A tutorial for the use of the LFT flags. We have a great LFT system, if people use it, but all too many simply don't know how to do anything but yell over Broadcast in thier one zone or send blind invites to everyone tagged as Not Looking.
No thanks. I, for one, *like* having the anniversary badges be year specific. I find it a shame we can "purchase" the winter badges now. Account age is one thing, character age is another.Quote:*Badges. I appreciate the chaanges to badgelist UI. But while Veteran badges are account-wide for good reason, and some of the AE badges appear to be as well because....(.well, I'm not really sure about why) , why not make the Anniversary badges account-wide as well?
The Anniversary badges really ought to be, IMO. Add to that any other badge that's based more on the player's actions than the character's actions.
Already in Increase Density, which comes earlier and (fortunately) not in an AOE.Quote:*Immobility Protection (ala Combat Jumping) for Inertial Reduction. Hey, it's a Primary (or Secondary) power, let's make it better than a L6 pool power. Kinetics is all about movement and mobility, and I'm not going to lobby for Stun, Hold or Sleep protection to be added into this squishy's set, just Immob.

Quote:Has CO released their console port yet? (And "will they ever," if not?)I would like to see more City of ads around the UK, out of all the stores I've been to there's no game boxes, time-cards or anything City of or NCSoft related to buy at all. Even Champions Online can be found in just about any proper gaming store. If they did more ads for Europe I could see the EU side getting more players to fill their servers.
Reason I ask is most "gaming stores" round here are full of console games, with a tiny little rack stuck in the back of the store with a few PC games in it. Best Buy has a better PC gaming selection. So if they've done their console release, I'd expect to see more CO. (If not, the point's moot - but even then, I've seen one or two COH boxes pretty consistently, and have seen architect edition with some regularity at Best Buy.) -
Let's see -
Main account: Feb 2005 to now, 57 months. $855
Free months (four editions - coh, cov, mac, gve) - $-60 - so $795 subscription.
COH DVD edition, wal mart, $20
COV CE on release, I *believe* $80.
GvE edition - $20
Mac pack - $20
All boosters, $50
Extra slots, $20 (I believe.)
Video cards, $200. (est.)
Account 2, Sep 2006-current, 3 yr 2 mo - $570 (Started with GvE edition.)
Free months (GVE, Mac, COH CE, COV CE) - $-60
Subscription - $510.
All boosters - $50
COH DVD (Big lots) $10
COV CE - $35
While not for my own use, another $40 for friends to get the various CEs from big lots.
So... roughly $1830. -
Quote:Two big reasons for me:Out of curiostiy, why do you dislike it? It's no worse than you inviting someone else to your team. If you have a spot they could fill (depending on AT etc if you are a player who likes a specific make up) what do you have to lose?
I do agree with the /ignore if they persist.
One, I'm rarely the team leader. So you're bugging the wrong person.
Two, I'd say a good 80% of the time, it's someone looking for a PL sending me those tells. (I'm on a level, say, 35+ somethingorother, get the tell, look them up and they're not even level 10 yet.)
Well, ok, three - it's echoes of the "Hit 40 and start getting bridge requests" that used to bug the *hell* out of me. And it's just...*intrusive* to me, but that's more a personal thing. I'll generally be on /hide anyway, just wanting to spend time with friends or what have you. (It doesn't actually bother me when I'm solo, for whatever reason.)
What I don't get - if you have no problems sending tells to strangers to try to get on THEIR team, why can't you send tells to strangers inviting them to form a team with you?
I do agree we should have a "Team LFM," as well (frankly) as having people on a team, other than the leader, hidden from team search. And if the team leader's filled up, have a (full) or something after their name. (TF and such as well.) -
Quote:Possibly not ready in an SLI or multi-SLI configuration? This is going to be a case of "My experience doesn't match," so I'm curious to find out why. I posted my current system specs in my "upcoming build" thread, and haven't had any crashes in COH, L4D 1 or 2, Assassin's Creed, HL2, Aion, Dragon Age - quite a pile of games, TBH. Though as mentioned - I don't run SLI. 1680x1050 on my 21" panels - can't go bigger due to desk space, and it's a comfortable size for me anyway. It's just been really stable overall as a single card (9800.) Did you check it that way?honestly, on the 7900 GT KO I have and the GTS 250's, I've had about 11 blue-screen crashes across various games under Win7 64bit. On some of the older titles I mentioned earlier, like the Lithtech engine games, I often get texture corruption with the Nvidia 64bit drivers. I gave up on games like Half Life 2, Ghostbusters, Dead Space, and Call of Duty 4 with Triple SLI under 64 bit Nvidia due to crashes. I even wound up borrowing a friends 9500 GT's to make sure it wasn't a problem with my GTS 250's. I also tested across both a couple of Asus Socket AM2+ SLI boards, as well as the non-Nvidia chip Intel x58 DFI board I own. Granted, the problems I've run into aren't as bad as when Vista launched and Nvidia was caught with their pants completely down.... but still, across 3 different motherboards, with 2 different sets of cards, and the 181, 185.85, 186.18, 190.62, 191.07, 195.62 beta and final drivers.
So I'm likely to stand by my statement Nvidia's drivers aren't ready. -
Quote:Asking a mod to move this.yea what benefits do i get except being able to play all the time.
do i get more xp? can i play offline? is it a one time payment?
That aside -
This is an MMO. It's a constatly updated game, with official content (over five years worth, and more coming) alwys coming out. Mostly in free patches (issues,) with the second expansion (and first true non-standalone expansion) coming next year in the form of Going Rogue.
You cannot buy levels, you cannot buy faster XP gain. You can, however, see the rest of the game. You can experience PVP. You can see just how your powers really develop, and what the mid and top level powers are like - and face tougher enemmies, alone or with a team. You can trade more. You'll be able to go into zones and get rewards you can't as a trial player.
You get to be part of a supergroup, form it, build bases and more.
You'll get to experience PVP, if you choose, though this game isn't heavy on it.
It is not a one time payment. There is a monthly payment (or, if you choose, a three, six or twelve month payment - a bigger chunk, but less money compared to paying monthly.) This is generally standard for MMOs, the other payment models being Guild Wars (which only expands with more paid expansions - and of which we've seen the last, apparently, until Guild Wars II) or "microtransactions," where you pay for... well, pretty much everything. Most MMOs - from Everquest, Ultima Online, through WoW and Aion, and most upcoming ones such as SW:TOR, APB and the like - follow the monthly payment model.
That monthly payment pays for continued development of the game, of server maintenance, QA staff and more. Also, of course, you don't lose anything if you stop and come back (aside from vet reward time - more properly loyalty reward time, perhaps.) If I installed - say - Diablo II today, I'd be starting from scratch. I have no idea where the characters I played years ago are. If I stopped playing this today, and came back in a year - all my characters would (barring major changes in NCSoft policy) still be there, ready to go from where I left off.
You'll interact with more people than you would at one point in a single player game, obviously, or most LAN or network games.
Is it worth it?
That's one only you can answer. For me, the answer's been yes for nearly five years. I've gotten more enjoyment out of this game, and the people I've met here, than out of most games I've bought. -
How much does Blizzard make on WoW? How much can they spend shotgunning ads like that?
We've had some product placement, mind you - IIRC, you could see various NCSoft titles (including the City Of titles) in Heroes, among others - but whether that's paid placement or "We need some games, grab some and stick them on the shelf," I don't know. I seem to recall magazine ads and the like, as well.
It seems to be a question of bang for the buck, as far as money. Now, people have said here that it'd be a no brainer to put COH ads in the various superhero movies - and I can't argue with that. The questions are... how much are they, and where does it come from in the budget. Print and web ads = cheaper, and more directly targeted. -
Quote:With all due respect to je_saist, I STRONGLY, STRONGLY disagree with this. Ultimate, IMHO, is a complete and utter waste of money in most situations. Bitlocker/Applocker, running a few Unix apps and multilanguage support (specifically MUI - Multilingual user interfaces, each login can have its own language support) ... are the only features mentioned different between it and Pro - not worth the extra money.Unless, of course, you have a shared computer with one person using English, another Chinese, another Hungarian... Of course, Vista Ultimate wasn't worth it either. You'll want to make sure you grab the Pro or Ultimate Version of Win7 though. Eventually you will run into a program that isn't going to work on a 64bit platform.
From running the beta, through the RC, to release - I know of exactly *two* programs that complain about 64 bit in any fashion - and that's a tool we use at work to check for the presence of specific rootkits on 32 bit systems - that, quite obviously, didn't work on Vista 64 either - and Flash, which doesn't care about the OS, just IE8 64 bit. 32 bit, as well as Mozilla, Chrome, and Safari, are perfectly happy. And adobe is working on a version for 64 bit browsers.
Save your money, pick up Home Premium unless you need to log into a domain. UNLIKE Vista, if you find you need the Pro stuff later? It's a superset. You don't have to reinstall. You purchase and unlock, period. No reinstall. Put in the code, you're good to go.
This is *not,* of course, true of going from a 32 bit to a 64 bit version of it, just Starter - Home premium - Pro - Business - Ultimate.
Regardless, I have yet to run into a program I use for work or pleasure - the two above aside, one of which it doesn't matter, the other of which is being updated - that's had actual issues with Win7 64 bit. XP mode, in pro, is there mostly to mollify businesses (and get them out of XP itself, while letting them run their specialized apps.)
Home premium, or pro. No need for wasting money on ultimate. -
Quote:Which 20 recipes should that be based off of?3. I just find it strange that if we can hold 20 recipes shouldn't we be able to hold all the salvage for those 20?
After all, if we look at this chart, you're at your max salvage slots (50 on character, 50 off - without extras from sales, crafting, vet rewards, etc.) at 45.
Now, basic IOs (20 recipes) take 2-3 pieces of salvage to craft. With 20 recipes, that's 60 pieces - which gives you 40 pieces extra of salvage. If you want to count the auction house as "storage," there's a base 16 slots there that can hold up to 10 salvage a piece, for 160 pieces (being more convenient in Steel Canyon, for instance, if you don't have a base with invention storage near the tables.)
If we go to the set IOs, some take up to five pieces each. For 20 pieces, that's a simple 100 pieces of invention salvage.
Which happens to be exactly where your on and off character, basic invention salvage inventory leaves off.
TL;DR version: "You can." -
Not an issue with win7, btw - running on it here

Quote:Follow flashfox's link, and don't make this assumption.Ive had a new gfx card put in as well (NVidia GeForce GTS250) and im assuming the place that did it would of installed the relevant drivers
Honestly, quite a few will fire up the system and, if it has video, call it good. Windows 7 does ship with drivers that recognize the nVidia cards, yes, but they're not the most recent or particularly geared towards performance. They'er there to let you see the desktop.
