Versions of the character? Sure.
Exact same character? Two, that I can think of. One as a 'continuation' of her story with another group, another a copy of my first 50 to see how that character does now that IOs are in the game (and with a few years of hindsight.) -
Quote:I don't believe a member of NCSoft or Paragon Studios finance department would be allowed to post from a "non-redname" account. Which leaves us one of two conclusions:Glad to see we have some advertising experts who play COH :O) Yes it can be expensive and then again maybe it isnt. I mean advertising is a tax write off, or at least a bit of it is. Anyway my point is they DO have the cash and they COULD advertise if they wished to do so. Cya.
1. You're breaking company policy, or
2. You have no clue what you're talking about as far as if they have the cash or not, given other priorities.
My guess is the second. -
The only way I can see being fine with this is by having COH taking a page from Guild Wars' book - having the ability to create PVP-only characters, limited to PVP zones and the arenas, unable to head into the PVE world and started at 50.
And that... I'm not sure I'm all that fond of, either, just because of the attempts to make PVE casually accessible. It would pretty well counter all that. -
I picked up the second account before we could buy more slots. I have a few 50s there, I don't particularly want to lose them or re-do them.
And yes, on occasion I do run them both at once. Rarely, though. -
A thought struck me as I took a peek at the Win7 theme gallery -
Why aren't we doing these? Or rather, why aren't we doing these any more? And why don't we have more desktop "stuff" for both our Windows and Mac-heads to (a) enjoy COH-ing our gaming systems and (b) do a little viral marketing?
We have, as I mentioned, wallpapers - through (roughly) Ouroboros. They're also tucked away somewhere on the official site, and don't cover a wide range of resolutions (at 1680x1050, I'm generally out of luck without stretching them, scaling them in photoshop or altering the background somehow - black backgrounds help.) Wallpapers are (generally) simple, and usable by both mac and PC - no conversion, coding or the like should generally need to be done. Yes, there's design work, and fitting them to popular resolutions, but the end result is worth it.
Don't forget the "calendars" people were looking for, either - showing COH and useful information - mixed with COH lore items? Why are these not being done yearly?
And quit HIDING them! Honestly, I can say this about a good bit of the info - but a link in a drop-out menu that mentions wallpaper isn't exactly eye catching. A featured one, or a thumbnail that changes - and is in sight all the time - would be.
Heck, throw in some holiday ones. Ghost Widow in a santa suit. Posi Claus. Make it part of the event.
If you want to get a little fancier - though this is more vista/win7 centric - do full themes. And while we're at it... how about a gadget for both Mac and PC (ok, two gadgets) showing, say, server status, and a link to the latest dev digest and/or announcement info? (Of course, that means dev info and announcements would have to go on the site, not on Twitter... *cough*)
I mentioned viral marketing - while I worked in an office, I had the Hero-1 wallpaper on my desktop for a while. Yes, I got questions about it, got to talk COH to a few people. I don't know if any of them subscribed or not - but it got some attention. Would it give the same result as a huge TV or movie marketing blitz? Of course not. But more exposure can't be bad. -

Quote:For me - it's B. I don't need my computers to light up my room, beep, flash, etc. I like a nice looking case, yes - which for me means "as few flashing/blinking/scrolling things as possible." (I'm not a fan of neon on cars, either.)I have a question / opinion for the group:
Say it's YOUR computer, and you get to choose between ONLY the following 2 cases, which would you go with. Let's say both are equal price, function, size, etc...the only difference is the cosmetic look. You can explain the reason for your choice, or you can just choose A or B...either way is fine. Which would you want for YOUR computer?

If my case has a side window, it's because I liked everything *else* on the case and couldn't find it without.
For instance - Current gaming system case: Antec Sonata II

Work system case - Ultra X-Blaster. Mostly for price.
This actually *has* the side window, since they didn't have any non-windowed cases and I didn't have time to wait for the next shipment. On the other hand, the window is facing my wall, and I don't have lights in side, so it doesn't bother me.
Cases for my upcoming build - Likely this, still potentially this whenever it comes available again..
Solid cases, good to build in... and as non-flashy-lit-scrolling-bright as I can find.
Now, aside from that - it's still "B" (I actually considered the case at one point.) I just like the look better. -

Emp/Rad, Ice/Emp at 50, a few others floating around various levels.
If you find yourself needing AP, or feel more comfortable having it, go ahead and take it. Be aware of its cost (the time you cannot be healed,) though.
For me, the Emp/Rad had it for a little while, then dropped it and never missed it after a respec. The Ice/Emp never had it. And I don't tend to consider it during my other builds. *shrug* The only times I've thought the "big heal" would help, I was *also* eating incoming fire, so it would've killed me.
My advice on it is the same as my advice on Taunt - if it's your first emp, take it, see if you use it and if it fits your playstyle. If not, and you think another power (which is NOT, EVER, EVER, EVER in the medicine pool!) would help you out more, switch it out for something else, but at the end of the day it's your character, your playstyle and your experience that matter more than all the opinions on the forums. -
I've got to add in another "The hardest thing about it is needing eight people all the way through." Dropping it to four or six would be perfectly fine, IMHO.

Quote:Which brings something else up. When I initially tried playing a mastermind, I was nearly turned off of them completely by how boring I thought they were. Why? Because I was playing a Bots/FF - bubble, send in, not much as far as offense at the time (and still not a lot, but this was pre-vet rewards, even, so for attacks I had.... brawl.)Just standing back and watching the bots or thugs or zombies have all the carnage-inducing fun sounds like the most boring thing in the world - may as well go watch a Steven Seagal movie.
My thugs/poison, which I rolled up after talking with the folks in the mastermind section of the board, is a very active character - buffing, debuffing, bit of healing, and attacking. The "being in there, guns blazing" is a big part of why I love that character, and why she made it to 50 so quickly. -
Quote:Well... >.> You didn't disable it, I guess we can call that a contrary position.I disagree...well sorta...err...a little bit...Jeez Bill, darnit, why do you have me agreeing with you!
The only reason that I haven't disabled my reputation is that I don't even care enough to learn how.

Absolutely, positively DISagree with almost all of your attack power suggestions. Dual Wield is part of my Thugs MMs. It fits them, it's part of what makes them fun to me. No, they don't do spectacular damage, but that's not the point.
Similarly, Necro - I have a Nec/Poison who got her powers thanks to a possession attempt by the spirit of an ancient Egyptian priest. She never has had, never needed, and wouldn't have a wand, staff, etc. The power comes from HER. A wand or staff would frankly ruin that feel.
Quote:... is a huge, and hugely *incorrect,* assumption on your part. For instance, Life Drain - as it sits now - fits my Necro MM *perfectly,* looking exactly like she's ripping some of the life from her opponent. A wand is *weak* by comparison. It'd be a sure-fire way to get me to stop playing that character. We all want wands
is, again, a huge assumption on your part. I semi-agree with the idea for Nin - but hell, for mine? I'd love to have him have one of the *swords* to be a melee-mind.Quote:You're the brains of the operation. You don't go in with guns blazing.
Some of them, as alternate animations - fine. But some require a bit more than that, as I'm reading it, and I'm against having any of it be an all-out change.
(I also disagree with giving all the thugs motorcycles - I happen to like the existing animations.) -
Think there's a guide to this somewhere.
1. Find a free hosting site. http://www.photobucket.com or www.imageshack.com is usually suggested.
2. Upload the picture you want there. Most are simply press a button, find the picture, and upload. Follow the instructions for the specific site.
3. Photobucket, which I use, has an "IMG Code" line (as well as direct link, email, etc.) Copy that line - it'll look like [ IMG ]http://blah blah blah [ /IMG ]
4. Paste that line into your post.
Result:
...for instance. -
Can always look them up here, as well - note the bonus listings. No examples actually needed, all laid out there.

Quote:Kilts are under... I think their own category, I actually have to look again. Edit: Lower body, Kilts/Shorts.What is the Kilt under when you make your person costume..?And how do you throw snowballs...?I saw 3 people having a snowball fight
Snowballs can be had via the winter event, which was "previewed" on live for a bit, and will be back again. You can get them by presents, by someone's mystery gift, or (I believe) turning in candy canes. -
Quote:As long as it's not hard linked to a costume, that's the only thing I'd be worried about. I tend to use dual builds - but can't see me going beyond three very often, for instance (concpet, team, solo.)
I'm not thinking software, hard-linked concepts where everytime you're in one costume you HAVE to have the other build, but, for example: -
Quote:/nitpick*I think you mean Control+Shift+Esc.
The Task manager will not come up in Vista with ctr+shift+del, as far as I know...
Ctrl-alt-del gives a security menu with options to log off, change password, and start task manager. Ctrl-shift-esc brings task manager up directly. -
Generally good advice.
The one thing I tend to say when asked about it - for any purpose - is "Do you have any software that only runs on one?" Yes, you can reboot the mac thanks to boot camp into a Windows environment - but as someone who had done similar things for OS/2 (for instance,) I found it got to be more of an irritation after a while.
Some companies have both PC and Mac versions of their products - COH, obviously, and Blizzard's been known for it for almost their entire history (the original Warcraft, frankly, played better on a Mac.) "General use" (web browsing, email, word processing and the like) it doesn't really matter - go with personal preference. But if you're looking at gaming, research the games. I'd say "Prefer native." If the ones you're looking at will run on both, and/or the company has a track record of multiple platforms - it goes back to personal preference.
The computer, at the end of the day, is a tool. Pick whichever will get done what you want to get done in the best way possible, for as long as possible. -
Quote:I wouldn't argue with seeing such a revamp - though, again, it'd probably lead to a lot of people respeccing as other powers get shuffled. That'd probably work, though it's doubtful they'd do it without doing the same to all the pools. An ST confuse would be an interesting addition to the set.
I have to admit, I'd just find it interesting as far as what they'd add.

Quote:I don't think it's "fear of PVP" so much as (a) requiring a lot of work rebuilding it from the ground up and (b) a low, low, low percentage of the population that's, quite honestly, interested in PVP - specifically interested enough to redesign their base around it - as well as (c) the fact they'd have to change base pathing *again* which could seriously tick off even more people - the "hardcore base builders" as well as the casual... basically, a good chunk of everyone with an SG base.Way I see it, if the trial has been backburnered due to fear of PvP, then change up the rewards a bit.
It's not a position I'd want to be in, quite frankly. Something's going to break somewhere, at this point.
That said, there are people who want to base raid, who want a COP-ish trial, and I hope they find a way to bring something similar in.
Thanks.Quote:I am also in utter agreement that we need content for the Supercomputer, especially blueside. Bill's idea of making new base items the reward for said content is, to put it mildly, bloody brilliant.
Though it's just, to me, common sense - it's a SG task (or several,) the SG as a whole should get a reward.

Quote:Speaking from experience, not numbers (I have two characters with this pool specifically for these mezzes,) I don't think that's a huge issue. They don't last long, they aren't particularly accurate - if I'm PVPing, I'd rather get something out there that's going to do me some good. I can't think of a time I've actually seen them take effect, especially with current PVP rules - even as a controller or dom.The OP is disturbed by the fact that, in order to gain the ability to intimidate a target, he first has to have the ability to taunt either multiple targets or a single target. I'd actually support this for PvE, but I'm not sure how it would operate with PvP since you're essentially giving a hard to resist mez effect to everyone without much in the way of cost.
Generally - yeah, I find having to take a taunt irritating to get to them, even if the characters that have the fears are grabbing it mostly for concept. The main issue is, how do you arrange the powers? Both single targets early is fine, IMHO - but I know (for instance) some Tankermind-style masterminds might want both without having to deal with a fear, and rearranging them may hose their builds.
About the only way I can see doing it without messing that up is adding a fifth power as the top-tier power, as that would be enough to push both single target powers to "tier 1/required,") both multi-target ones to "tier 2." -
Quote:Oh?It usually occurs to me that the sorts of people who have rep disabled are the ones who would have tons of negative rep.

*checks, certainly not negative.*
I just disapprove of the system, and if you check the comments when it came out (and since) I'm not the only one. Besides - *points to forum games* the rep-altering threads in there, among other places, make it even more pointless as an indicator of... well... *anything.*
So, mine's grey. -
Quote:Well... no, it wouldn't. Not "everyone," at least, only those willing to PVP.it seemed to me like a simple fix too, but the way the CoP was originally coded, its possible that changing one thing could break numerous things if they unkowingly coded it like that.
i think they should just redo the trial anyway, give everyone something new and such, and it would definitly give sg's a lot more reason to have a base to hold an IoP because they are decent bonuses, but from the sound of a lot of things, the CoP prolly wont be back till way after going rogue, and many speculate the devs trashed the ide of CoP, but ive heard the devs are working on it, but its very very low priority, like the bottom of the list.
Not saying "No, don't bring back the CoP or something similar." But the fact it would open your base up to raiding, and you up to PVP in those raids, is enough to keep people from doing it. Yes, I know, for others it'd be the entire point, but I don't see it being reason for all that many SGs to do so. Especially with the base pathing turned off (or down) like it is now. PVP just isn't particularly popular in COH.
That said, I'd like to see more SG-oriented "stuff" anyway. There's no reason, blueside, to have an oracle/mission computer at all, and only one SF redside. (Even with the COP type trial back, for many groups there wouldn't be.) I'd like to see a mix of single, small group, full group, and multigroup missions/TFs/trials added in there anyway. Let them reward other SG items, functional or decorative. -
I wouldn't argue with this. Though I think the novelty would wear off within the first 3 months of any new TF.
My only objection has absolutely nothing to do with the idea, but with the playerbase - as I'd find it really irritating to have someone start a TF and not bother mentioning "oh, we're doing a challenge run." Hard to fix a person though. It'd be nice to have it very obvious, though, that you're going through a challenge before it starts just for those "Oh, didn't I tell you?" moments. -
Not directed at tokyo... but naughty necroposter!

The trial itself is not a PVP trial. However, the IoP flagged your base as raidable by other players. (The trial, IIRC, also needed multiple teams.)
