Quote:See, though, this was generally the *reasoning* for most of the I13 changes. Evening things out. Both in ATs/Powersets and builds (IOing out vs newbie/PVE/SOs/etc.)While I'm not the hardcore PvPer like others on the forum, I do PvP.
Just last night I logged into the game to have my toon drop a mission. She was parked in RV, so before I went to drop the mission, I decided to see if anyone was out...ended up staying in zone for and hour or two.
My only complaint about PvP, is that when you go to the effort to make a toon (any toon) kick butt in PvE, it's wasted in the PvP zone.
Now, this in and of itself may not be a bad thing. We have two builds. You can build for one PvE on one build and PvP on the other. Right?
No! You can't!
Some sets just suck that much in PvP.
Now mind you, I still PvP with concept built toons. I go around using ninja run as a main travel power on my corr. But I find this to be the reason I think PvP needs changed. To go from OMG to crash and burn is going to get on people nerves. And that's just from PvE to PvP.
Sucks more when it's issue to issue changes. :/ My WP/EM tanker used to feel great, not so much anymore.
I don't disagree that the major changes going between PVE and PVP are jarring. They are. Your tank *will* be held - for less time than that blaster there, but they will be held. Your heals will do progressively less good, and so forth. But some sets - and I'm talking individually - will always "just suck" compared to others in PVP. (I think my Earth/FF has one solo PVP kill. That took a long time.)
The answer, as mentioned before - and stated, really, from I6 (if not I4 - Colosseum) is... *team.*
... touching on the next reply...
/true.Quote:But, I think that the old CoH PvP was very easily balancable around teaming...people just refused to do that.
I have a Fire/Rad Corruptor. OK solo (pre-I13 PVP.) Teamed, though - I teamed (a PVP PUG) with two other Corruptors - or it may have been a Corr and a Dom. (Don't recall right now what they were.) The three of us pretty much held Siren's Call ourselves for a good hour, 'til we were just overwhelmed with numbers. *Massive* difference from any of us solo.
COH PVP has, honestly, always been team based. Yes, I've had some great solo fights and experiences (love my En/En brute being called "that (*#&$# Stalker!") but the only real "balance" we can get short of forcing everyone to use Brawl is teaming. -
Quote:Yeah. I seem to have 1-2 bases it will always happen to, and others that are perfectly fine if I forget about them even longer. Really irritating. While all these are correct, they've never squashed the bug where an unused base will suffer the "locked out-can't pay rent" bug. Yes, it still exists. However the easy fix for that is to /petition the base when it happens you want to actually use it and it hits you.

All I can say is "COnsider the source" (of what you're replying to.) Now, if that came from, say, Macskull? I'd give it far more weight.

Quote:/this. Many times over. How about this Sam. Do you have any idea how much I'm out at the end of the day after selling my stuff for less than what it cost to craft them?
$15 bucks. My subscription fee. No more, no less. And on the days I choose to sell all my drops at an NPC store instead of the market I'm out the same $15 bucks.
It doesn't matter how much I sell my stuff for because it's make-believe money in a pretendy fun-time game. Unlike the OP I'm not going to get my sphincter in a pinch worrying about market prices. The market has nothing I need to enjoy the game. It's an optional feature I use when the mood hits me. Usually I end up going to the market because it's closer than the NPC store. -
Quote:Well, several things here:This. So very much, this. Only PM I've ever sent to a dev (that I remember) was when the dominator changes were on the test server to ask why the same logic that got it buffed for dominators didn't also get it buffed for controllers. Never got a reply to that PM either.

1. Controllers have containment. Double damage on anything held, immob'd, etc. (not *all* controls but quite a bit will set up containment.) Land that first hold, you're doubling damage.
2. Dominators had a problem with - using the devs description, which was very fitting - of being "jeckyl and hyde." They had lousy damage, no containment, etc. until Domination was ready, then *bam* they were godly... until it dropped, which was a driving force behind people trying for perma-dom. Adjusting the damage lessened that *greatly.* You've now got formerly-Dom level damage at all times.
3. Dominators are control/damage ATs to begin with. Controllers are not. Dominators got a damage buff because they were not fitting their role as well as they could - and they are now.
So, yeah, an overall damage buff for controllers? I wouldn't expect to see it, frankly. Individual power adjustments like Propel? Sure. (Edit: And I'm saying that as someone who's gotten two decidedly non-high-damage combos to 50 - Ice/Emp and Earth/FF.) -
Quote:/ThisHow's about you let people do as they please? You don't want them to waste their time selling low, so I could be wasting my time NOT buying from the market?
I sell at 5-10 inf because (a) I'm not interested in "market PVP," (b) I probably had everything drop and made it to sell to clear up room, not to make "da phat lewtz," and (c) you smell funny so why would I listen to you?
If someone gets it at 15 inf? Great! If someone gets it at 15,000,000? Great! -
They've lengthened them once in the past, so it's (potentially) doable (barring issues with their database not handling something longer, which obviously I don't know.) And longer names open up *more* names, which makes the "all good names taken" even more wrong... /signed.
-
Neither side. I like Controllers and Dominators - I'll be making plenty of both on both sides come GR. Melee, I don't play much (except tanks - I'll run a tanker before a scrapper any day.) MMs have nothing similar blueside. Love Khelds, can't stand VEATs.
I like both sides. *shrug* -

Right click. Pick info.Quote:4. DO and SO enhancements should have a little pop up description (or a description in parenthesis) of what type it is (Run Speed, Jump, etc.) when you mouse over them. I know this one has been addressed (look for the color, I believe was the answer from way back), but it drives me insane that after years of playing, I still can't tell what enhancements enhance what attribute.
You currently get a badge, a popup, and they show up in the "Memorized" section - which never goes away, and seems to like staying open. Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're asking.Quote:5. Clear indication of when you've crafted enough recipes that you've memorized them and no longer have to purchase them to craft an IO. Like a pop up in orange and a note that says, "You've memorized level 40 Damage recipes and no longer need to purchase them!"
*nod*Quote:8. Make the combining Enhancements faster. Maybe drag and drop and combine on the main "manage Enhancements" screen. I usually stick with DO's and SO's until 35, when buying IO's makes financial sense and the bonuses are better. Having to combine, one at a time, each ENH drives me nuts and takes forEVER and a day. -
Quote:Yeah, I knew about the buffbots and I can tell this patch is supposed to be making use of those subject to diminishing returns. I'd just like some clarification on what details/features in the MA are subject to pinging the nerf bat so I can avoid using them. I'm still annoyed that my story arcs are going to be pig-slapped for trying to help a solo player (I just realized that my 'Inhuman Resources' arc has 1-4 allies in it depending on which mission you're on).
I also know we're not going to get a response from the devs on "X number of allies is okay; Y allies is the threshold for the XP/Reward Crash" but I'll be watching the forums to see what the numbers start looking like./these.Quote:since most farms make use of all the ally slots, usually around 30, why not make it like 3 or 4 allies are ok, after that we see diminishing returns.
I'm all behind the intent of the nerf (those farms were just flat out stupid, you want to be unkillable, go find an FPS with cheat codes,) but some clarification would be nice.
Specifically, I have two arcs (older) that I'm wondering how they'll be hit by this - "Hero Corpse" and "Out of your Mind (pt II.)" Both of them have allies for one or more missions - not *many* mind you, and they are targetable and killable - but they serve a purpose in the missions they're used in (one are people you're freeing who help you out, the other are representatives of groups helping your "rebellion" - 4 or so allies at most, given that version of LR summons a small army, it helps.)
I have no problems with the devs doing this, it was certainly needed - but if anyone wants a good example of why I tend to not like farms/farmers (exploitive ones, specifically,) this is a perfect example. I'll put it along with dreck and war wolf timers, portal minions giving no XP and the like. -
Selection is either:
A - Concept. "This person does XYZ, what fits best?" Or, more often:
B - "Hey, that looks like fun, let's try that."
Edit:
Or C, friends say "Let's try a team of XYZ" and roll with that. F'rinstance, we have a supergroup of characters who... well, we couldn't pick our own AT or powers. Everyone *else* came up with them, and you had to run with it. (Mine wasn't bad - Fire/Kin Corrupter.) -
Quote:One thing I will say is they're *not* impressing me ATM. Yeah, historical COH issues aside (compatible cursors, enhancement jumps, etc.) the grey stripes of death are hitting me in other games often enough to be *really* irritating.Jeez people love to hate on the ATI. I appreciate that, historically, they've published some poor drivers but...nVidia really isn't in a good position these days.
Yes, using current drivers, yes, uninstalled the old ones, etc.
I'm rather at the point of hunting *someplace* down that has a Geforce 260. -
Quote:How is Energize "breaking the cottage rule?" The basic purpose of the power was not changed. Other abilities were added *to* it. It was originally conserve power. now it's conserve power with a heal.Wait... isn't cottage rule already broken to tiny little pieces?? Energize anyone??
Edit: ...Unyielding (Stance), too...
Unyielding only had -def removed from it. The basic purpose of the power, again, was unchanged.
The cottage rule is basically that a power won't be completely replaced with something else. The only - *only* - time this has been broken was back in Issue 1 (or was it 0...) when Fold Space was removed. They nearly broke it when the PPPs were revamped - replacing powers with others - and the reaction they got made them realize how *bad* of an idea outright replacement is. Thus, PPPs and APPs have five powers in them now.
... and armors used to be exclusive. However, allowing them - finally - to stack is not breaking the basic purpose of the power, which is - to be an armor. Movement didn't enter into it. The values may be changed as a result, but if a power gives you "+Def to Vanilla Ice Cream," that power will *always* give you "+Def to Vanilla Ice Cream" - they can change how much, or add spumoni to it if they want, but that basis won't change.Quote:Unyielding used to prevent you from moving -
Quote:/this.The developers have no issue with the G15 as long as you don't use it to fully automate your play. As in, no walk in, hit one button, leave, come back to a dead room.
I myself use it (with a .1 sec delay after the "/" key) for global channel binds.
I've used the G15 in several MMOs - and currently use the G110. No issues - as long as it's not abused (or overly automated.) -
Absolutely not.
I realize your ideas there were examples, but as I'm looking through, I'm seeing "That's completely and utterly useless to me" for almost all of them.
No dictating what my characters "need" for power pools, thanks Ensuring tanks take taunt? That's none of your business, thanks. If you feel you need it, take it. Not everyone does. And why would my /Regen scrapper care one bit about taking boxing, tough, or weave with nothing to stack with it? What use would my distinctly non-"healer" Controller have for aid other? Why would my Khelds give a rip about Grant Invisibility? -
Quote:Yeah, we'd basically need some dev input here.Technically you could outright initiate a power dampening field to cancel powers but that would be incredibly broken, obviously. I don't think anyone tested self phasing while fighting the early versions of Lord Winter and I don't think there's anything in the game currently that detoggles (without stuns/sapping) to test this against.
We do have a few situations to consider, though -
- PVP, if I recall properly, decided to set it so phased players can attack each other - basically sacrificing theme for playability, because:
- PVE, the devs had said previously that just because you're phased doesn't mean you're "phased the same way" (technologically going to another dimension, putting yourself out of phase with this dimension, etc.) and they wanted to maintain that.
- Current Hami, IIRC, *can* attack through phase.
What to get from all that - some of which is solely from patch-note memory? I don't know. I don't know the mechanics behind any of it or if it'd be dev-acceptable in a PVE situation (I really, *REALLY* hoped we'd be attacking illusionaists....) -
Quote:... except, of course, that they *do* everywhere we'd see it in game. They don't just do the Rikti-speak bit when they see your character or your team, but even when "talking" amongst themselves (for instance, RWZ, when you're sent to the Rogue Isles to save some civilians and disarm four bombs, they're talking to each other in the exact same way.)Actually, that brings up an interesting point. By all accounts, Rikti speak is only in use when talking to humans. Rikti, to one another and according to canon, dont actaully talk. They have the sort of all connecting mental network.
So it probably would not need to be all standard 'Rikti Speak', but True Rikti communication. Which'd be quite interesting.
Which, of course, goes against them having their psychic friends network in the first place, but still. -

... yes, I think I have an unused COV (original!) box around here somewhere, thus only $15, but still. -
Quote:One other thing you can look at is barebones kits. (Or combos, often they work out much the same.) Sometimes it's as little as CPU-MB-RAM, sometimes it's everything but a monitor and a copy of Windows. The biggest stumbling block you want to be aware of when making your own computer is compatability. Basically, don't buy an AMD-based motherboard and an Intel processor. They won't fit together. Make sure you buy the right type of RAM for your motherboard (DDR2 vs DDR3).
Expect, generally, to have to add at least a hard drive and DVD drive, often a video card (and copy of Windows) to these. But you'll know the basic parts will work together. In theory.
Of course, I ended up piecing this together for under your budget - kept my monitor, picked up an OEM Win7x64 (add another $100 to the price.) Ended up picking up a new keyboard (Logitech G110) later. It's what I'm currently running. -
Looks like Acer's using this MSI board -

Ouch. Tight fit.
Yeah, the right angle cables would possibly help for two drives. Can't see three.
The alternative is an add in SATA controller card for ... well, I suspect it'd have to be one of the PCI slots, though for that smaller PCIe slot there are some - such as here.
Of course, yeah, if you want to get a bit more radical, full board upgrade. Which means you may want a RAM upgrade (that board, that I'm reading at least, does single channel memory only, and two slots = limited,) nto sure what's out for socket 775 ATM.
But, yeah, for a full size card, that layout's just... ow. The board looks to be designed for light use, or a HTPC or some such instead, where you're not going to have a beefy video card on it.
(Edit - for one of your other questions:
Quote:Expect them to be similar. I've got a 5770, two slots, rectangular, shrouded - I wouldn't try to put it on that board. However, some versions are out without a shround, IIRC... such as this one. I don't know of a 260 or (edit - nvidia based) equivalent that's unshrouded. Are there some new, I hate to say this since I love Nvidia, ATI cards are a box shape? -
Does the board have only the single PCI-E x16 slot?
Alternately, would the SATA ports be usable with right-angled connectors?
(Alternately alternate, which board and which video card - brand/model - do you have?_) -
Quote:See, my question over that, though, would be how long ago did they leave? The change went through in April of last year - did they leave by December of 08, in which case their accounts would have been stuck under the old rule in any case? Or did they leave for 60+ days after that took effect? No. Previously, it applied to everyone. Now it no longer applies to active accounts. If your account goes inactive long enough, you lose everything on the market. We've had people come in here and pitch a fit over it.
That's why I asked, when was the testing done?
