    Problems with dumping TOs -

First, they're the easiest to deal with. no origins. Just "Red = Damage, Yellow = Acc" and so forth.

Second, you KNOW you'll be able to use them. No matter what origin you are. One less complication for a new person to start with. (And could the tutorial actually be coded to *give* an origin-specific DO? Don't forget you're given some there.) It also simplifies the first few stores you deal with - imagine a newbie dealing with the Elite Quartermaster and blowing what little INF they have on a set of the wrong things.

Third, they're cheap. Now, yeah, that means selling DOs at the store would give you more money - but that means they also cost more to replace as you're blazing through those early levels. TOs, who cares. They're bought and sold for a pittance.

So, TOs still serve their purposes. I wouldn't be averse to having DOs drop sooner and more often, though.

How is that, in any way, shape, or form a precedent?

Counter: The devs have been on record for years and *repeatedly* that setting Khelds as a level 50 unlock was a mistake. They set VEATs the same way out of "parity." People have played for years and never gotten to 50. Others get PLd there in a matter of days (or hours, under some older exploits that were thankfully crushed.)

They have never said anything of the sort regarding Veteran Rewards. They've been satisfied with the program ... well, for years now. Again, it's the fairest reward program out there - everyone gets them at the same amount of (actively subscribed) time, the same way. You don't need additional money, time running TFs, time to farm, don't have to play the market, play 20 hours a day, attend raids, run certain missions or whatnot. You just have to *be here.*
  3. Er - you can use the map when you're in an SG base. There's no fog-of-war or anything there. Should make it easy to not backtrack or have to spend "10 minutes" looking. Plus, once you do find them, you should be able to recognize where they are the next time.

Or, perhaps... just ask where they are and save the search, or do what N_M says. Yeah, some do have poor layout, but trying to find 'porters shouldn't be a search every single time (barring a base builder who switches things daily.)
  4. How do I feel about it?

If you want to spend money:
For $9.99, you can get the natural pack with ninja run.
For $5.99, you can get a jet pack.

    If you don't:
For free, you can get several in game. (5-10 safeguard, 10-15 safeguard/mayhem, goldbricker, zulu, grandville...)
And/Or you can stay a paid subscriber for 60 months.

All of the above (well, except the 60 month) will let you avoid burning a pick on a travel power if you so choose.

    So... no, thanks.

Normally I'd agree with this and say "Go for it!" but since this sounds like the system is going to be a work system as well, I'd lean more towards pointing at prebuilt (with good components you can choose - ibuypower, etc.) just for the sake of having support available to swap things out and the like. Plus it seems to make IT and bean-countery types happier.

(Of course, I say that and I work from home on a system I built myself... but I have a backup PC I can throw into service if the main one goes down. Plus, hey... fixing this stuff is what I do for a living.)

Just as an aside, given the people I have to work with (read: fix things for) every single day, this is actually a *really* good assumption to make. And in general STILL seems to give too many people too much credit.
  7. /disagree.

They *are* being paid by arachnos, for one - just read the dialog. Somewhat hush-hush about it, but it sounds like the area's being used for the RIP (to get to Arachnos) just like it's being used for the destined ones. (Alternately, they move up to Cage's guards.)

Now, for having the mobs show up elsewhere? Yeah, they should. COV's horrible at having mobs in really restricted areas and not using them (luddites, spetznaz, etc.) I'd love to see them get more use.

In any case, they're nothing but low-level mobs, on much the same level as the Skulls, and we get out of them fast enough. We have another 45+ levels of Arachnos, Longbow, Arachnos, Longbow, Arachnos, Longbow, Arachnos. We don't really need more Arachnos.

Ahh. Much clearer then. And IMHO much less of an issue. I'd still be questioning "zero end," but cutting with that in mind, sure.

This would change nothing else about the powers except the fact that it no longer costs endurance.

They can already do what you claim they would be enabled to do.
Except that it currently costs endurance to do so. They can now ignore the END cost, and they're still getting Containment damage. Right now, if they need to stack and maintain a high mag immob, they HAVE to stop, or they have to sacrifice duration or damage for END (or otherwise make up for the cost.)

Also, just what are you considering an attack? "Must do damage without procs?" If so, Ice/Storm. Immob/Gale/Immob/Gale. END-free kill.

Every Blaster would have a completely END free attack chain even when mezzed. (Well, except /Devices. Pretty sure all other secondary Tier1s do damage on their own.)

Meanwhile, most other ATs - Defenders, Corruptors, Khelds, VEATs, Brutes, Stalkers, Tanks and Scrappers would be getting the short end of the deal. It's basically a much bigger buff to most Blasters, Dominators, and some Controller combos.
  10. The only thing I've seen this done to is Stalker Hide, since it's so essential to the functionality of the entire AT.

That said, are you looking at *only* attacks (IE, flares and the like) or any "tier 1" power? The first is blatantly unfair, the second is a bit unbalanced (think of an Emp or Thermal that never had to pay for those heals, for instance.) (Edit - or "Tier 1 of the primary?")

Actually, looking at it *either* way, you've just empowered Controllers to have a perma-Immobilize. Say, Ice - Just make an Ice/TA. Chillblain/Entangling Arrow/Chillblain/Entangling Arrow ad infinitum. Slot CB with damage and recharge, give EA a damage proc. Free damage with an immob that could be stacked so high nothing could leave.

Followup: Also by comparison, what about Masterminds? Their END cost isn't in their attacks (which so many people skip,) but in their pets (and the upgrading and maintenance thereof.)
  11. She's doing it for the greater good. Trying to subvert the broadcast "The heroes are trying to keep you down" propaganda. Yeah, that's what it is...
  12. Might be a bit of a stretch for what you're looking for, but Torrent has KB unless used by a Necro MM's Lich.
  13. Yeah, they start at 1000. A good chunk of the next section are all dev choice and player choice - pretty sure they were ported over from when it was on test.

To search with those parameters from the OP, just select everything from no stars to 5 stars, let it search and sort by date. Now, which are playable vs broken, you'd have to look through.

With the results left, 1023 is Positron, 1026 is Pohsyb. 1032 is @BigMoneyHustla "Delusional Illusions." And I'd call it at least initially playable, since you can enter the mission. Whether it's "updated" or not, I don't know - reads as final, as opposed to 'work in progress." (So I'm just past the first 100 it seems - 1107's the first one I published. 1107, 1120, and 1134. >.> I should do some tweaking. Probably need a bit of cleaning up.)

I do greatly appreciate the time you guys take to asnwer these questions, thanks.
A BIOS update is *usually* more involved. Sometimes there's a program that you can run from the OS to have it install, other times you'll have to boot from a floppy, CD, or USB drive, or enter the BIOS and point it to the file to use to update.

    Changes by manufacturer and MB.

    Mapserver

Yeah... time of day, if you can ping them - and try a server other than freedom, as you're looking at the two most populated servers with it and virtue. (Just for the heck of it.) Champion, Guardian, etc. might be good for comparison.

(Yeah, trying to help. This isn't a secret plot to get you into making more characters, slipping down the road to altaholism... much.)

Also - wiki page with which servers are on which coast. Might help troubleshoot.
  18. Might be thinking of Shadow Cloak.

Don't forget, though, there is no "breakfree" in PVP. There's no hold protection, just resistance - so, yes, dwarf will lessen the time you're held (and with the toggle changes, you won't detoggle from dwarf,) but you *will* still be held.

One of those fun i13 changes.

"Whine?" Only whining that tends to be done are by those who think they should be able to get anything with their credit card.

I have two accounts. One a year and a half or so newer than the other. Big difference in the vet rewards. Would being able to "buy vet time" or buy rewards benefit me? Yes. Do I support it at all? Not in the least.

About the only modification in all these years I've seen suggested for vet rewards that I can throw any support to is related to costumes (and ONLY those.) Leave the "reward points" (3 mo, etc.) for the costume awards where they are, but pick the set you want. Precedent being the blackwand/nem staff/Sands/Axe.

Other than that, all I can say is "Veteran" does not mean "Credit card balance." They're the only 100% fair reward in the game. They can't be gamed, they can't be PLd, etc. Everyone gets them the exact same way.
  21. I'm a big fan of using multi-builds - whether it's as a pseudo-respec, doing a solo vs team or concept vs normal build or any other use, I think they're one of the handiest things added into the game.

Few things I'd like to see, though:

    1. Rename without switching.

I've brought this one up before. If you want to rename your builds, you have to switch TO the build - and you're subject to the 15 minute timer before you can rename the second.
    (In other words:
    - Rename current build - provide name.
    - Switch build.
    - Rename current build - will give you an error telling you to wait 15 minutes.)

There are times I don't *want* to swap builds - I just want to rename them when setting them up. Either a menu item (Rename build X, Rename build Y) and/or slash command would be nice to have.

    2. Simul-level.

Another of the "bitten by 15 minutes" items. You level, you level both builds, of course - both are (say) level 38. It would be nice to pick powers on both at the same time on the trainer ("Build 1/Build 2") without actually swapping TO them. (Perhaps with the OPTION to swap, sure.) But it'd be nice to just get both done at once without actually having to swap.

    3. Enhancing without swapping.

Yeah, same as 2. Yes, it'd take more time at the stores, I'm sure, but as purely QOL, again... it'd be nice.

Note neither 2 nor 3 would be part of a respec - just normal leveling. Each build would have to be respecced separately at a trainer, keeping enhancements separate (other than the tray) and just keeping straight which build you're doing what to.

The other build would also have to EXIST for any of this to work - if you want a new build to switch to, you're level 50 and "build 2" has never been touched, spend time at the trainer to do it. (Often by the time I, at least, am done with that and some enhancements, I can swap back anyway.)

    4. "Build reference"

And related to the last two - it'd be nice to take a quick look at your "other build" without having to swap to it - say, to see if it DOES need enhancing, or for a "What was I thinking? I need to redo it!" or to see if it'd work better with your team/mission/whatnot.

    Yes, you're weird.

Honestly, your entertainment money, do as you want with it (within legal bounds.) COH-wise, I don't necessarily AVOID a set because it's FOTM. I wouldn't build one BECAUSE it is, though.

For the heck of it, I'd un-FOTM for a bit. For instance, Ice/Energy was a popular blaster for a while - so I rolled an Energy/Ice. Or I'd roll something as a different AT than the FOTM set's AT (if similar sets were available.) Fire/Rad popular for a controller? Roll it as a corruptor.

No real *reason* to do it, mind you, I just did.

As far as anything else? If I buy it (or not,) there's a reason other than "Everyone else is." I'm looking at an iPad - next version, though, never 1.0 - for some potential uses, not because "it's popular." And I avoid WoW because I tried it and didn't like it, not because X many other people are playing it.
  23. I'm surprised nobody's mentioned "Humanform = more slots - or, rather, same slots, fewer powers!"

    Video Recording

Follow Shadow's info first. You'll find you're using /demorecord in game, then something like Fraps to record the playback. (Does Zloth's demo editor and player still work?)

You *can* use Windows Movie Maker to put it into a more reasonably sized video, edit, etc. but - especially with the latest version - there are *much* better tools out there. (Really don't like the Windows Live version of WMM. Stripped too much out. 2.1 on XP was ok for something basic.)

    /this.

And some, of course, don't deal with powersets or whatnot at all. (FatherXmas's computer parts guide keeps getting updated, for instance, or BillZBubba's guide to moving COH, or my own Kheld lore guide... ok, most of mine.)

Now, if you see a Grav controller guide advocating the usefulness of Fold Space, that might be a little outdated.
