There was another poster who expressed concern that the game was balanced around the uber-1337 that I mentioned. This was just my take on that question.
Well, for every "name" or "uber/IO'd out" person there is - and yes, there are several who show up in beta - they are diluted by everyone *else* there. My point being that there's plenty of counter to the "uber" player when it comes to testing these out. That on top of the devs "balanced for SOs" philosophy (barring future Incarnate content, which we know is supposed to be endgame and balanced around its own reward.)

That's not to say they aren't listened to - after all, someone has to show just how crazy stuff can get - but their reports and opinions are balanced out.

I'll say that I agree that SOME ultra-1337 players influence the decision-making process in terms of game difficulty a tad much. Or at least it SEEMS that they do. They certainly are a vocal and "respected" segment of the community. To many of them, if something isn't hard enough that bragging about how easy it is (to them) can't impress us then it it is too easy, in general. So that's how they'll impress us: to tell us all that it is too easy and dismiss it as being some kind of joke. These players who have tweaked their builds/skills/tactics/exploits(?) to the utmost really are a "cut above" the average player or even the average group. But the Rikti Pylon Challenge, Rikti Boss Challenge, speed master runs, speed challenge TF standings, "closed" Hami runs to name a few are all born of an elitist mentality where the only fun necessary is that it stoke the e-ego. If a player engages in these activities out of preference they're not likely to give a damm(sic) about the average player's enjoyment. Their right to an opinion? ABSOLUTELY! Is their opinion RELEVANT to the question?
As someone who's saying "It's fine," I'm not an "ultra- 1337" player. Veteran? Sure. If you look at most of my 50s, they've got SOs or common IOs. I don't min/max. I don't have any magic tactics. I don't tweak. If you call me "uber," I'm going to assume you're either joking or crazy. I love doms, and have exactly zero permadoms. The only things at any sort of cap are my fire tanks fire resistance, and you have to almost work at NOT doing that. I'm a lore hound (see also "Kheldian backstory guide.")

So if your point is that the people who are saying "it's fine" are only the "elite min/max type trying to impress you/stroke their ego," well... you're wrong. There are one or two things that could be tweaked, yes, and I've mentioned them before, but overall, yes, I *do* feel the difficulty level is perfectly fine. Hell, I think having Mu killing your recovery is a bigger issue redside (pre-stamina) than anything in GR.

Peeked earlier, still showing 20 tokens as of about 11 AM, so I'd say "today's the last day."
  4. Call it wild curiosity, but with this second round of free transfers - how did you use them, if at all?

    Renames?
Moving characters you forgot the first time?

    For me, it was:
1 MM from Freedom to Infinity
1 Bane back to Virtue (original home, and to free a slot)
2 Character Renames (made someone with the same name on Freedom, since I have *plenty* of slots there, then moved back to rename.)

I definitely used them more the first time around.

... y'know, browsing through the thread, I see quotes like this and think - "Ever played other MMOs?" Because I'm thinking of the mobs (and playstyle) I had to deal with in, say, Aion (where missions would have you kill multiple Elites *just to get to an objective* with some frequency, and you're rarely fighting more than 1-2 mobs at a time because you won't survive more) and, quite frankly, think any new player coming from those is still going to find this easy by comparison.

    o.O

Running an elec/elec dom myself. Do you not have your AOE immob? Cycle your controls. You're a dominator. Even if you just have the ST hold and immob, that's half the mob taken care of well before they're in range, even with default recharge. Separate them from the others. And if they're strung out - the AOE heal does absolutely nothing but look pretty.
  6. I've usually had it done within 12 hours - most of the time within the hour, to be honest. (I'm *really* bad on checking on one or two of my SGs.)
  7. I do to. Part of why I keep going back to Semaj.

Also, he knew I was planning to use this as a wallpaper (I'd talked to him about it previously,) which is why he'd angled out the shadows as he did. Posted in another thread, but my current desktop:

Also, another came in by Playworkart - Brute, Aurora Crush... who's got a bit of a development story behind her. Initially I'd had a character (think there's a piece in this thread, actually) called Aurora Chase - my only 50 Corruptor. Some of my friends started playing with Mybrute, and I made a character there using the same name. She turned out a bit different:

But I liked the look (!!!) enough (it was different - and really, villain in hot pink and white?) to bring her *back* over into COV, renamed Aurora Crush. So, here she is:

  8. Try using Daemon instead? (OK, not 100% the same thing, admittedly.) Or did you try as Demon Dust, two words?

Could browse through a list of theological demons/demon types and see if anything catches your fancy to use in, or as part of, a name - just make sure it fits. (For instance, "Mistress of Mictlan" might sound interesting - but it'd fit a Necro/ MM better.)
  9. I think that message is going to flash for the proper side regardless. (Found it amusing I'd "unlocked epic ATs" when my first PB hit 50, too. It's just an auto message.)

I don't think I've seen anything definite about leveling in prateoria unlocking epics. I *want* to say they don't, since you're not leveling as a hero or villain, but don't hold me to that. (I've already had both unlocked for a while.)
  10. Wiki needs updating to add the mutant pack wings in there. (Think I can do that, at least add them. Let someone else make it pretty.)

    Free:
Costume drops. (Listed on the wiki. Bat, cherub, bone, burned, tech, fairy, insect, draconic.)
Vet reward (15 month) : Angel, Demon

    Booster:
Mac pack: Valkyrie / Valkyrie Armored (no, you don't need a mac for it.)
    Mutant: Organic Armor

  12. Running around Praetoria, beating on some police...

Let Energy Aura have the same effect as their "shields" (and attacks) do. A "No FX until hit" option - no effects on the shields, you get hit and an energy "aura" or "armor" temporarily becomes visible, then fades.

It's just a neat effect, and to me really looks like, well, energy-based armor.
  13. Personally, I think it's not so bad. This running a pair of control characters as well as a Kin/SR brute (defenses not slotted yet.) Don't think I've died yet on that character - once at most - or more than I have in "classic" COH or COV.

It's not "harder" to me. It's new. I don't know what specific mobs do by heart yet. This could very well make it seem "harder." (Similarly, it "feels" like Acc is off - but running herostats still shows me at 87-94% overall, even on TOs.)

Now, there are a few things that need tweaking, yes. There's a spawn point *right* by one of the Resistance contacts/entrances that always seems to spawn a good size group of destroyers. That spawn point... well, simply needs to go away. I tend to zone quickly, but even then I've had a good third of my health gone by the time I've shown up (and mopped up the group so others coming out could get out of the way.) And the burn patches - they're easy enough to get out of, yes, but they're a PITA for Masterminds in the late teens-early 20s with Demolitionists. *Why* do we see them so much in the single digit levels? Almost seems like they had it out for MMs. (Haven't had an issue with them on anything else I've played so far, but for low levels... eh.)

Honestly, the most annoying things so far have been (a) having to turn off tips time and time again and (b) having to verify that, yes, I KNOW this is a resistance entrance and have to "enter my passcode" - twice - each time I go to the underground.
  14. Do you have the appropriate booster packs (or editions?)

For instance, you won't have Warrior without the Natural pack, Justice/Sinister without the Good vs Evil edition/pack, etc.

References: Disk editions (to see what's in collectors and retail editions,) Boosters (which also lists item packs, like the mac item pack, etc - don't need to buy the specific edition.)
  15. Well, the new video card would help - assuming the power supply can handle what you want to put in (which it probably can.) See the "Got $200 to spend..." thread re: nVidia GTX460. (Considering it for one of my other systems that's not that far off, spec-wise, from yours - Athlon 64x2 2.8 Ghz dual core, 4 Gb RAM, etc. One - work system - is running a 9500, the other - my "old main rig" - is running a 7900.)

The 'constant ambushes and sieges'? Good grief. We're talking about playing BRUTES. BRUTES. What is this malarkey about low on damage?
I don't think he's talking about brutes being low on damage.

That said... my elec/elec dom and fire/storm controller (neither "high damage" at level 10 or so) laugh at his statement.
  17. Could we *please* have an option to globally disable pop help/pop tips? Seriously. I know I've targeted an enemy. And taken damage. And walked. And toggled a power. And used a travel power. And been targeted. And gotten an inspiration. And gotten an enhancement. And used endurance. And read dialog. And zoned. And changed costume. And entered my SG base. And walked to another room in my SG base. And exited my SG base. And gotten an invention. And have salvage. And the sky has changed color. And water is wet. And... and... and....

Give me the option to turn them off once and for all, across all characters old and new, pleeeeeeeeeease. Since apparently saving these options does nada for me. It's amazing just how irritating these little things get when making new characters. (Yeah, I know they're off to the side. Still irritating me.)

(Actually, I'd like to have a "Global control panel" anyway that sets all characters, current and future, certain ways on login without having to go save/load something. Like accept all missions regardless of SK/Ex status, kill pop help, disable the profanity filter, enable name colors, etc. Let me make my own default setting and apply it at character login automatically.)
  18. Dark Astoria for an overall remake, blueside. I do want to see the art folks dress up the other zones (starting with Steel Canyon and Talos - they're supposed to be business-y, filled with skyscraper zones, make 'em shiny!) as well.

If not DA, then Atlas and Galaxy (yes, both - get both the newbie zones.)

Redside... hmmm. I'd have to go with a new zone, as well, really. Just for the sake of some variety besides "Dump garbage here" being the decorator's idea. I really want a new leveling path (ok, yeah, we have praetoria now and they want to extend it past 20, but I mean for the villains who want to start and stay villains.)
  19. I know. She makes Fusionette seem sensible and intelligent.

"But why won't they love meeeeeeeeeee?!" Oh shut up already... I do wish they'd released with more tip missions, though I have to admit I'm quite happy with the overall quality (minus Flambeaux-whining) seen in them. Just too few tip missions right now for *real* variety. Hopefully we'll get more coming as we go on, just to mix things up (without the Mad-libs "(villaingroup) has stolen (item) - retrieve it!" or "You knew (villain) in the zig, he was a putz then, put him down" of newspapers.)
  20. Villain mission. Bwahaha. I like it. (And tied in to the OP's post, too.... ) Another mission that fit another character frighteningly well.

    Mind/Fire

It's a *lot* of fun PVE.

If you want "by the numbers," have to get that from somewhere else. Mine's Mind/Fire/Soul, 49.5, and I don't think I have any END worries (for one,) two self buffs aside from Domination - also ramped up the difficulty on that dom before level 5. She's been a monster.
  22. Head to the player guides - or find any post by Dechs_Kaison and read his "MF Warshade" guide. It's great for getting a handle on things, including the warshade mindset. No builds provided, and yes, slotting is tight. On the plus side, you don't have to worry about trying to fit stamina in.

    Edit: Here. (for the guide.)
  23. The quickplay is still available (last I checked) for download. Other than that, yeah, it's dead.

    Edit: Free (legit) download link.
  24. Because they're more of a challenge than "Hey, let's just mow through them" council or freakshow. Those get to be really boring.

No, few if any of my characters have all that much psi/end drain resist. Have a few dark armors being leveled, at which point they'll probably seem boring, but I find it fun on my *fire* tanks.
  25. I've got to say, Rogue has been absolutely perfect for one of my characters (my MA/Regen stalker,) all the way down to the morality mission. Fit her perfectly.

Though I've got to say, I'm getting sick of Flambeaux. Makes Fusionette seem like a fun, intelligent person by comparison. (And wasn't she one of the other Nuclear 90?)
