I started playing in March, 2005. I noticed after logging in on my oldest hero for the 6th Anniversary badge that he had 81 free costume tokens.
Some of the folks here since Launch that do not mess much with costumes will probably have an even larger pile of them.
How many do you have? -
Quote:Oh come on, they do it as a labor of love because of how much they enjoy the game! It is not as though they get PAID to produce videos!BTW, Black Pebble, we getting an official vid from you guys for the sixth anniversary?
Methinks you will be waiting a looooong time for an "official" video from the "offical" marketing people in charge of attracting folks to the game.
Someone call a Saint Bernard to dig me out of this avalanche of irony. -

Quote:Ah, thanks DG, I had not seen that anywhere else. Comes with the territory of a new issue, I suppose.Problem 3 is a known issue in I17 with all costume slots beyond slot 0.
So far, not too bad with i17 overall for me. I had been on about two months before i4 hit back in 2005, and I had 14 crashes the first day I played. (Of course, I am now required to say that I was GRATEFUL to even be playing, and today's whippersnappers do not know how good they have it! And get off my lawn!)

I was running Keith Nance's new arc and ran into a few "surprises." None of them were fatal to completing the mission nor causes of a crash, but I doubt they are intended.
Anyone else run into these?
**some Spoilers ahead, but nothing too major and not already suggested by the arc's title**
1) I had a single teammate, and they ran ahead in the final mission and encountered what was supposed to be my look-alike in the early going. It wasn't ME, however, it was MY TEAMMATE. All dialogue proceeded as though it was MY doppleganger, except they looked exactly like my teammate.
2) Of course, it was tough to keep track of where my teammate was since BOTH of us appeared as a green arrow with a white dot in it on the map.
3) I had altered the colors on my powersets during i16, but they had all reverted back to the original colors. I was using the Lava options on Earth, and the powers no longer Lava shaped, either. (This might not be exclusive to Nance, though.)
4) I set out to run the Nance arc with another hero, and when my Evil Double finally made their appearance, their coloration was NOT the reverse of my own, but rather took the coloration of the two main colors of the powersets that I altered during i16. I do not have those colors in my costume anywhere. And yes, my powerset colors had reverted all back to their original, which is even stranger.
I duly did a /bug report for these.
Is Nance being wonky for anyone else? -

"What My Six Year Old..." likewise gets my vote for best, though there have been many, many good ones.
Alas, I fear they are lost to the ages.
"Ask the Newbie" was a very funny thread while it lasted.
"Ask a Stupid Question" was generally a scream, but it finally ran out of gas. (I doubt there will ever be a shortage of Stupid Questions.) -
Well met, Sirrah! (And pretty darned funny, too!)

It took me FOREVER to get to 38 on my Grav/Storm Controller, but finally I had Lightning Storm.
The first time the cloud formed above me, with the rolling thunder and the sudden ZOT! on the baddies, I almost shouted for joy.
(So naturally Lightning Storm has since been "corrected" to fire half as fast as it once did, but it is still a wonderful power.) -
I like playing a lot of combos, but I have particularly enjoyed Earth/Storm on a Controller. Took 2 of them to 50.
Right now I am quite enjoying an Ill/Rad Controller. It is a very flexible and powerful combo.
Of all the Blasters I have run so far, Ice/Ice was my favorite ranged combo and Elec/Elec was my favorite blapper combo. The former had holds and slows and the latter had End drain and some wicked punches, so I imagine the Controller-ish elements appealed to me. -

Quote:*sigh*- Why pay Samuraiko to do the CoH/V videos when she currently does them for free and CoH/V already gains all benefits from them? If they are helping to bring people to CoH/V (and I don't think they are, as fun as they may be for the forum population) then Paragon Studios is already getting all the benefits at $0 down.
She requested that I not.

Quote:I am reminded of a scene in "Zulu" after the battle has raged for twelve hours or so in which Lt. Chard presses Lt. Bromhead for the answer to a question he asked him. Bromhead finally answers, and Chard begins to critique his answer. So to those players who enjoy my video work, and are loudly calling for me to get hired, please - out of respect for BP and what he's trying to accomplish here by opening a dialogue with the playerbase on marketing this game we all love, please leave me out of it.
Bromhead looks at Chard and says, "You asked me, and I told you."
Black Pebble asked. We told him.
Certainly we understand the situation as you have presented it, and certainly we will accede to your wishes. I am of the opinion, however, that word eventually gets back. If the question is being broached about how to get more people excited enough to play CoH, and an answer is given virtually by acclaimation, it is foolish to ignore it.
So my piece is said. You have asked for the topic to be dropped, so to quote another film, "As you wish." -
Quote:You guys should TOTALLY hire Dark_Respite. It's a shame to see that talent and passion going unrewarded. Plus, it'd make for good P.R.Quote:Actually, I think they should pay you to make videos to promote the game Samuraiko!
Samuraiko (Dark_Respite) has, for the sheer joy of doing it, produced videos that highlight cool things about CoH/CoV. Her sense of framing of shot, timing the cuts, composition and choice of music are superb. You WANT to fight the Rikti, have wings and fly or join the Midnighters after you see her videos!
Just pick one: the promo for Invasion or the promo for Midnight Hour. Just by words on a screen, musical cues and fine choice of video shots, your game looks like the coolest, most dramatic thing evar.
We are serious about this.
Hire Samuraiko!
Just in case it still doesn't register:
HIRE SAMURAIKO!
Thank you. -
Quote:Element Earth was a fun ride. It got really fun when we were using Stone Cages and Gale x8 to take out Skulls and Hellions en masse in Perez Park. Yes, we GALED mobs to defeat! Clouds of little numbers above their heads until they fell over!My first 50 came from an Earth/*mainly Storm superteam. It was tons of fun.
Here's a video.
And another.
Kind of silly, but it was a lot of fun. I've also been on an Ill/Rad superteam, but very boring. AM + Pets, then wait for them to kill the spawn while doing seemingly useless ST attacks...blah.
The other thing that was simply funny to watch was 8 Rockies (whom we dubbed "The Goon Squad") mob some boss, EB or AV. We once took along a fire controller, and the poor imps could not reach any target that the 7 Animated Stones were surrounding. The imps were jumping around like Jack Russel terriers, trying to get to the action, but there was simply no room. It was quite funny to watch.
Bureki, my Earth/Storm, was probably my fastest run to 50 and is still my only hero on Justice. Perhaps there will be an EE revival. -
Quote:You are a good poster, MCM. Keep doing what you do, and do not let the idiots get you down!I don't take much notice of rep, but yesterday for some reason I noted I would 'become famous soon' or sth similar, with 2 green blobs. Today I note that I've got one and am at -23 rep points.
I'm not really all that bothered tbh, but am curious as to how it went from 2 green to 1 red in such an apparently short time. Does anyone know how it works? Is this evidence of loads of small bad reps or just one rep-hig person hitting me?
And can we read the comments left for us at all now?

Quote:I remember that period of time! The ambushes were simply pathetic as a result. The lowbie ambushers gave it their all, furiously and ineffectively attacking.I think the best ambush I had was when there was a bug and the ambush was set to the lowest level the ambush critters could spawn at. It was kind of funny trying to be attacked by a group 20+ levels below you. I had them follow me around Talos while I sold drops for a while until someone else panicked and offed them with an AoE. They were like annoying siblings or yappy dogs.
But I have to commend you for letting them follow you around! I never thought of doing that. If you were on a team, the ambush could be huge... The thought of that many attackers "yapping" is indeed a funny image! -
"I AM SATIN" was probably the worst of its ilk, along with the various "rouge angles" that worked with him. Apparently, the more Evil you become, the less you can properly spell.

I got a mish in Croatoa to take out Fir Bolg from the Woods. Right then I got an invite to an AV team in Peregrine, so I dropped a portal and went to the mission.
And while waiting, a group of Fir Bolg launched their ambush. The only time I have seen them in PI.
It must have taken a lot of work for them to get there... and to get mowed down by the team at the door. But "A" for effort! -
Quote:Hear, hear.Troy's version of the Phalanx, barring official notes from the characters' creators, is the version I use as a reference when writing. They seem more... real.

Three issues was not long enough for him to work with them. -
Quote:Would this still work now that Lightning Storm is "working as intended," ie, firing at half the rate it once did?Does this answer your question?

Some ideas already promulgated look good:
Quote:Even outside of a Perfect World, surely there could be some better marketing.Easy. I'd fire the entire Marketing Department and staff it with people who would promote the hell out of the game on websites, print, video ads, etc.
I'd restart the comic line, doing storylines from in-game, but running a constant set of contests for players to be featured doing the various storylines.
Reviving the comic: This I like a lot. Putting Troy Hickman and David Nakayama on it is my slant to it. Pay them handsomely. I like using player character "guest stars" as well. Hickman is already skilled at anthology-style comics; this could set new parameters for comics. And it could be done ONLINE if expenses for print were too high, although if our resources are unlimited, it might not matter.
Quote:To try to spice up Giant Monsters and zone events, I would have Recluse's lieutenants and the Freedom Phalanx respond and actually show up to do battle-- but only after a preset time limit to give people who wanted to fight and win the badge for themselves the chance to do so.
And for completing a TF offered by a member of the Freedom Phalanx (or villainous equivalent) you get a one time only temp power that lets you call on them for assistance. This power could NOT be regained through repeating the TF, so you'd have to make sure you really wanted their help the time you called them.
I would also the the Signature Characters appear in Pocket D From time to time ... so in addition to War Witch you can see Synapse feeding lines to Desperate Guy while Dominatrix is dancing on the bar at one table while Recluse and Statesman are having an arm wrestling contest at a third ...
I would for SURE like better search functions for teaming. Have the option to have teams LOOKING FOR MORE. Be able to exclude players ALREADY ON A TEAM in your search and NOT have a TRUNCATED LIST. Have a reminder pop up when you log on as to your PREFERRED SETTING, ie, do not want to team, always looking, etc. A better field for comments, such as listing desirable TFs, AVs and the like.
To say that better search options for AE would be needed simply does not do it justice. As it stands, finding good stuff among the farms, nonsense and lousy quality stuff is nigh well impossible without word of mouth.
It would also be cool if NPCs could interact with your character along the lines of whatever amount of background information you would want to supply. If your character had a bone to pick with a certain villain faction, or routinely worked with another player hero, or hailed from a particular place. Sure, in the Perfect Unlimited Resources Scenario we wind up with the Holodeck, but if the Rikti War Zone used to be the residence of your hero's family, it would be cool if that could be worked in via mission assignment or flavor text at the minimum.
I suppose that more content, costumes, powersets and AE tools being desirable are a given.
Short of CoH becoming the Holodeck, I would like to see the above happen. The Hickman/Nakayama CoH comic would be Simply Epic as well. -
Ah, it is the favorite of Ontology and Epistemology classes!
See my sig for my thought on the matter.
From what I have read of your posts over the years, MT, you have probably heard that answer before. -
