Tho for the record, I think it should be easier to get to PI from IP, especially since Statesman specifically asks you to go there.

"We need you to get to Portal Corp stat... so take that train over there to Talos, run a few miles to the ferry and erm, well you're gonna need to wait until it's normal scheduled departure time, then race a few miles from the dock to Portal Corp"

Individuals who were willing to spend the amount of money on the game that got you to 6 slotting all you're powers would have a massive advantage in pretty much any build situation than an individual who did not.

Whod effectively be creating an extra tier of segregation between those happy to just use the points they get as their subscription for littl ethings, to those willing to spend more money on being massivly OP.

I'm sure the devs want our money, I'm sure they want it enough to know that a fair few people would stop playing if they needed to invest a massive amount of money into the game to have their builds have the potential to be equal to others.

Would it be a one off purchase for all characters on an account? (and when would thse slots be given) or would each individual character have to have it bought for them?

  6. yes,

The way the CoH diectory is built is that you can replace any existing in game sound or texture on client side, if you know the directory path, http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...ghlight=sounds is a guide to doing so.

  8. So that whole "not loosing access to things you have purchased" line doesn't quite hold out then?

I thought that if you had purchased GR, which was necessary for incarnates, it would have let you use incarnates on a Premium account. Oh well, glad only 1 character on my second account has only the alpha.

Also... the pet uniques are not procs (at least not in the sense of how I use the term which I explained). They are global passives. Whether you use the power they are slotted into or not they are always active.

I will admit though... another reason for this topic is to perhaps highlight how... awkward the unique seems to be. Maybe a dev might see this topic and possibly suggest changing it to function the way you seem to wish it would. >_>

Yeha im not posting here to cause aggrevation and second guess, while I totally agree it reads like have to use the power, and its how I've read it each time I've read it, A part of me sees a small hint, that perhaps it could work the way I would like it to.

I was mostly just curious whether it had been confirmed over how it works since i'm not lucky enough to be in Beta, or have made it all the way to San Diego

That is not the same thing as a global/passive enhancement like Luck of the Gambler's 7.5% recharge which is active whether or not you ever activate the power it is slotted into.

Keeping that in mind, there is no instance anywhere in coh of an IO proc that fires from activating any power regardless of where that proc is slotted. A proc ONLY fires when the power it is slotted into is activated (or in the case of a toggle or passive power once every 10 seconds). Consider this... compare the other procs for the other AT's in those AT specific sets. What the other poster is proposing is far and away much more powerful than the others and some would say just outright overpowered. As "inviting" as reading it the other way may seem, it's not realistic considering how existing procs work.

I'm willing to bet large sums of money the proc works EXACTLY as I described because it makes sense and seems balanced that way. What he is describing would be an unprecedented tech we've yet to see in coh. What's more logical? A completely new tech that is highly unbalanced? Or using existing tech like build up proc IOs and tacking on some recharge for the power as well?

The Procs in Pet sets Provide the player with an aura power which affects your pets these work just by being slotted, but provide you with a bonus regardless of how often they are used.

I guess my hope was that the simple fact of having it slotted would grant you a power which had a 3 in 60 seconds chance of proccing a BU affect.
  12. If he was a Mercenaries AT this could represent UNIT when they helped him more directly, though the Doctor has rarely sent others out to do his dieing for him.

You could wait for Time Manipulation and have him as a Time/Rad. saying the TARDIS lets him tap into its time travely powers to use, and there was the Martha Jones episode in the hospital on the moon where he can shake of Radiaiton he has absorbed.

This gives you access to a self rez in Soul Transfer in the epics, where a big, stunning self rez kinda fits concept.

But since we're talking about a guy who generally refused to be too agressive, maybe Mercs/Time would cut it, and RP in a bit of "these army dudes keep following me to help out, silly UNIT always attacking things"

Were you at Comic Con and Or Directly asked a Dev to clarify this is how they work?

I could read both Proc chance on power activation or global proc chance based on having the power slotted from that description.

While I admit the former is more likely based on what it says, the latter is more inviting...
  16. beyond a few fringe cases, you probably should stop thinking about controller and damage in the same sentance.

Controllers are, for the most part a teaming AT they offer Mitigation through Control and through Buffing, and increased team efficiency through debuffing and buffing.

They may share a Primary, but they are total opposite ends of the spectrum in every way, you shouldnt seek the glory of "xxx has defeated AVxxxx" nor the glory of "oooh wiped that group on my own" (though both are possible in some cases)

You're aim is to stop the killing blow that would be directed at you're team, or neuter it in some way, and it can be a largely thankless job.

    Rocket Boards?

DC's Static has also flown around on alot of things over the years. and many others have levitated various things.

Honestly if you have it as a levitated stuff power thats customisable (blah blah more tech blah blah) then you select a levetated Rock, Surf Board, Manhole Cover, Trashcan Lid, Disk etc etc, then you're providing a general aesthetic, want to avoid infringing, just dont let the surf board be metalic, etc.

Theres way to include items in this game which nod to, or verge on trademarks (claws/regen) while controlling how much a player is allowed to nod to, or verge upon that trademark.

Just for fun, let me run some hypothetical update ideas past you and see what you think. As a thought experiment only, let's say we were going to update the primal Hamidon model. Again, absolutely no plans for this, but it's an interesting topic to think about. You've expressed a desire to maintain the character's "amoeba-ness," and I whole-heartedly agree with you. That said, there are ways we could potentially make him more visually interesting while staying completely faithful to the character concept.

Off the top of my head, some examples:
--ANIMATED CILIA. What if, for decoration, Hamidon grew the occasional wriggling tendril? Or had several spread across his surface, constantly wriggling? For me, that would make the monster feel more alive, more like a microscopic organism, and a heck of a lot creepier too. (You'll notice 4 wriggling cilia poking through the Seed of Hamidon's shell incidently).

--CELL DIVISION. In keeping with the giant cell theme, what if the creature split into two smaller pieces at some point during the battle? For me, that would make the raid experience a lot more interesting-- maybe players would have to coordinate efforts between the two halves. Also, it would be great to see this guy move in a major way.

--SCROLLING SUB-SURFACE TEXTURES. This is something Jay hooked up on the Fallen Seers recently, and it would give the impression that liquid is flowing across/through the cell wall.

--DETAILED ORGANIC TEXTURES. I'm imagining semi-transparent capillary networks (perhaps with a slight glow, maybe even pulsing) across the creature's "skin." The more organic and alive it gets, the closer I think we'd be to the original idea for this character.

--FLOATING DEBRIS/BODIES. Again, to enhance the sense of realism and dread, wouldn't it be neat to have defeated heroes and/or rubble floating in the cell fluid? Just the illusion of things floating within the creature would help to sell the notion that it's composed of liquid.

--ADDITIONAL ORGANELLES. If I was in a giant single-celled organism, I'd expect to see more naturalistic and a greater variety of organelles within the creature. Maybe you can target it, maybe it's just decoration.

--CYTOPLASM BURSTS. We could rig up an effect where the creature sprays fluid after you hit it. You'd have the feeling that you'd punctured the cell membrane and that you were actually damaging it. Anything to make the the fight more visceral would feel like a win for me.

So there you have it. From an art standpoint, we want to do everything in our power to bring these experiences to life in the most engaging, breathtaking, and super-heroic ways possible. Again, a Primal Hamidon update is NOT on the docket at the moment, but if it were, these are some of the things I'd be thinking about.

For me, changes like these would simply be polish on the core experience, deepening the encounter's sense of immersion and realism and keeping the art fresh and modern. This is a living game after all, and ideally we want the graphics to impress both new players that decide to try us out for the first time while simultaneously keeping things fresh for the veterans. I don't think any of the hypothetical updates listed above would harm the Hamidon experience. In fact, I think they could take what's already cool and make it way, way cooler. What do you think?

    1) Cell cillia, definately would make it feel more alive, im guessing the hardest part of the Hamidon encounter in making it feel alive is that it has to be stationary as theres no way to tether the Mitos to the Nucleus.

    2) Cell division would be cool, but it may increase the difficulty on leagues if theres say ony 1 tank showed up and you're needing to coordinate efforts. Also as a 'Super-Cell' theme, Mitosis based divison is to create 2 equal cells, which would mean 2 Hamidons (oh noes) Meiosis based division creates only 2 half cells, which I guess could reform halfway through the fight.

Whats boring about the Hamidon encounter for me is the repetition, Perhaps have (and I know this is deviating slightly from the art topic, but since its suggesting new art assets, hopefully staying close) The hamidon attempt to go through mitosis, and have the structures involved in the Prophase begin to appear, the Nucleus would become immune to damage (and perhaps untargatable just to let people know) and the centrosomes begin to mvoe away from the Nucleus to prepare for DNA replication,

these would become the main target, control affects would all slow their progression to the outerwalls of the cell, while raw damage would ultimately be required to defeat them and they must be defeated before they reach the outerwall (this would allow teams that are control heavy to defeat them by leveraging enough control affects, and teams damage heavy would achieve also)

Once defeated the Nucleus would remain in its open state with the DNA available for targeting.

If something like this happened near the end of the fight, even perhaps that last 25% it would go along way to making it feel like a living organism, aswell as getting rid of that Fight-Bloom-Fight-Bloom-Fight-Bloom-Fight mundanity.

3+4)More outer detail - yeah, awesome

    5) Floating stuff - Brilliant, maybe a few Crey Scientists, an odd 'Random Button' hero (or villain) corpse, maybe even a few skeletons if thats possible and within the age rating... humerous props for a Shivan or 2...

As has been mentioned to go along with this, an applied hover affect would be awesome, of course some people won't want this, so have the vendor or a NPC give away a temporary power which grounds you, -fly - jump kind of thing.

    6) Additional Organelles - as I mentioned earlier, anything to get rid of the repetition, tbh, you know now you will win the Hamidon encounter if you can get to the first bloom, assuming no-one leaves etc, it becomes just a repetion time sink after that.

    7) Cytoplasm Bursts - if this combined with 5 and 6 (the part of you're 6 where some are aesthetic) then you could have the organelles break down and release their sub structers that float around a bit

I think alot of the aesthetic could be altered aswell without too much of a tough change, Hamidon's Nucleus does a good job of looking like a cell Nucleus (although again, in Biology this has a surrounding structure which could be broken down as the first wave, but again, more work)

But the Mito's do a pretty poor job of looking like actual Mitochondria, their shape is off.

And Why have just Mitos? you could include, just as an example Lysosomes and the Golgi Apperatus, replacing 2 colours of Mito with those.

Or, while Hamidon closely resembles an animal cell with no cell wall etc, since he has such a big control over the Devouring Earth, he could be a hybrid and contain Plastids.

Or even better, have the initial part of the encounter being to break down a cell wall that has formed around him.

    Thugs/Storm ?s

The build up Proc has a chance to fire on you when you summon the Pet power its in, then every time the pet uses an attack. It can proc for multiple pets within the same power at the same time. And seems to stack on one pet sometimes.

I.e my tier 1 pets have had, between them, a perma build up affect for about 30 seconds before, whereby one would get it, then the other, then the firsts may drop while the third gets one etc etc.
  21. My elec/Earth rarely summons them while solo, they tend to be very counterintuitive to the surviveability that Static Field offers.

In group play it can often be a while before I realise they have faceplanted, nice to have, but I'd call them skippable.
