Connect Paragon Ferries
Talos, Independent Port, Peregrine Island, (Striga Island?) all connected via water craft.

2. The Smuggler's Ship and the Ferry are two different entities. It's like asking all the airports and buses to have the same stops. So, either they'd have to add a Smuggler's Ship to Talos, or, a Ferry to IP and Striga.
3. We need a drop off point in IP near Portal Corp, where all the action is. Ask for a Portal drop off point there.

YES!
I guess I have to wonder what the best way would be to accomplish that? Helicopter that goes from South to North like in Mercy or Nerva? Move the boat further North? Add a boat stop along the North?
I think that last option is the best (see suggested placement).
While this is true... may I point you to the fact that if you look at the former Green Line and Yellow Line Trains... their physical lines DO NOT connect to each other, and yet they all are connected now.
|
Its quite possible in other places the lines now have a connection terminus, but travel between the 2 furthest apart zones is just as quick as travel between 2 interconnected zones on the choochoo, as the other would be crazy.
Its quite easy to explain that away, and suspension of disbelief isn't too much required.
Doing the same with completely different boats as they are now is slightly harder.
Tho for the record, I think it should be easier to get to PI from IP, especially since Statesman specifically asks you to go there.
"We need you to get to Portal Corp stat... so take that train over there to Talos, run a few miles to the ferry and erm, well you're gonna need to wait until it's normal scheduled departure time, then race a few miles from the dock to Portal Corp"
"Couldn't we just take this boat statesman? or the submarine thats clerly too cramped for all of us plus the MM's pets but we took it to the Rogue isles anyway? Or even Stutter's boat?"
"...no"
Of course, theres always the Ouro portal...

Yeah, when they connected all of the trains, I just assumed that all the ferries were going to be connected.
I really don't see any reason to not have them connected.
Don't get me wrong... I've always been a I'd rather travel there myself gamer. And I still often fly/run/leap/teleport across zones and take the gateways to other zones, just because I am weird like that.
However, they've done what they've done and I can't say that I think it is a bad thing... So, why not do it all the way.
In fact... they could connect the ferries and trains for all I care.
Why the hell not?
Realism/connection/immersion is not a factor in any of the train traveling today. There is nothing more wrong with skipping over taking the train to the ferry to P.I. than skipping over taking the yellow line to the green line and waiting for your stop, etc.

The monorail engineer was on something pretty serious, if you actually have a hard look at some of the lines, especially in Talos. At least one of the lines is....just...it....no, that hurts my brain too much.

Except the Smuggler ship is not a ferry.

I wish there was 2 additional smuggler ships in IP, one by the North End of the Zone relatively near Future Dynamics & one in the South End of the Zone, either by the Crey Havoc badge (by the Terra Volta entrance) or by the Family Partier badge (South of Terra Volta).
Having the 3 smuggler ships would make it more convenient to get around in IP & would be a nice QoL thing for the Devs to do.
1. Talos, IP, and Striga are already connected by one 'line', namely, the Smuggler's Ship.

(You know what that is, that's the lore people covering up an art screwup, is what that is. Back in the day you could win a No-Prize by explaining a mistake in a Marvel comic with some similar sort of handwave - so at least it's got that classic comics vibe about it. ;)
I like this idea and don't see the problem.. call it whatever you like I don't see a reason why the FERRY and the Smuggler ship (which at one point was actually just caller.. the ferry) can't hook up. Hey they hooked all the ferry lines in COV and the helicopter.. they ever added additionaly heliports.
The idea to make travel simpler not to agonize over a name. currently between the combined train lines and the current ferry line players can get to and from every zone fairly quickly.. except PI. No train and a ferry that only delivers you to one zone.. IP and then you get to make your way to the train to continue. Personally I either use the RWZ to get around or my Ouro portal because the ferry is inconvenient. Sort of like the submarine we can use to get from Red to blue side (Sharkshead to IP). It's easier to just use the RWZ or the Midnighter club than use that system (I never use it but even Pocket D provides more options).
So lets just do away with the Smuggler ship and call all of the the Paragon Ferry Co. with ports in IP, Talos, Striga and PI. I am trying to think of any other stops they could ADD like they did with the chopers in COV but nothing springs to mind that would mak sense or be really beneficial.. Only other zone I can think off hand with a ladge body of water is Croatoa,,, Yeah I know Crey's Folly has a lot but that just seems silly and Croatoa already has the train not to mention a midnighter's club.

I was one of the biggest pushers of a unified transportation redside, but I'm not on board (pun intended) to pretend a cargo ship is a ferry. I also tried real hard to get the Vanguard DPO to be in northern Peregrine, but that didn't happen.
Kill off Citadel and replace him with a portal that goes to Portal Corp square.

I see no reason not to potentially do this, mainly because zone travel time in this game is mostly about loading screens. The less of those the better. Boarding a boat and ending up on a ferry is way less of a mood kill to me than waiting through multiple preloaders.
Marrying a roll on roll off ferry with a cargo bulk carrier is the kind of slight of hand that would quite simply never, ever happen. It makes no sense and it looks unbelievably ugly.
That's not to say that the lines CAN'T be unified, though. We could, theoretically, do that by just getting rid of the cargo ships entirely and set up a ferry service to Striga Island. There is, after all, a legitimate town on that island, seedy as it may be, and it looks to have a serious shipping port. I can definitely see a ferry travelling there to deposit unsuspecting tourists for the local mob to swindle out of their money. Sure, sure, the island is a square mile of land with a smoking volcano within eyeshot of the pier, but the game's land are is supposed to be representative, and an actual Striga island would be something more substantial, such that the Council base isn't clearly visible from the bedroom window at Stephanie's pub.
