I agree. The last I heard, ANYTHING > Zero. If they can't get an actual COMPANY to offer the kind of money they're looking to get (which is, apparently more than nothing, which is what they get by trashing the whole ball of wax), why don't they just offer to sell "licenses" to the playerbase? For $100, they send you a copy of all the server-side files, and you can buy a server machine, and set up your own server of the game? There would be enough of us willing to buy a copy to make them a SUBSTANTIAL sum, which is one HECKUVA lot more than the NOTHING they are looking to get. (Speaking of which, I'm by NO MEANS the first to say that NOTHING is exactly what NCsoft will see from Western gamers, should they "sunset" the game like this. Gamers talk with other gamers. And gamers can be VERY petty people...the type of people who boycott any and all of a company's products...in perpetuity. Should it happen as suggested, I've no doubt that NCsoft will never see another penny in the States, at the very least.)

Quote:Aha! Thank you so much! There used to be a link from the main site that was easy to find, but I think they buried it, when they changed the site. I'll download the kit later, when I'm on my own computer... ;-)

Quote:Thank you for the heads-up! She sure did a great job, making her own versions!Hmm, I don't know, but these are useful images of them made by SyrusB (if you use, remember to follow her crediting information): http://syrusb.livejournal.com/133000.html

Does anyone know if the fansite kit for CoH is still available for download? I was looking for some high-quality images of certain things in the CoH universe (at this time, specifically, the "alignment badges"). I'm working on a few small projects involving different images in the game, for instance, hopefully, creating an animated forum avatar...

Quote:My IDEAL for a "retro space-suit" would be to have the base layer of suit A for the Chest and Bottom options, with a secondary choice have options like "Stripe 4" (for example, to give a different colored panel down the side - very "Japanese retro sci-fi") or have the glowing lines on the seams (except, please, God, lose that stupid zipper down the middle - like the picture above!)
Apologies of course to the artist whose work I butchered.
Also, the gloves and boots from B are the best of the three, inho.
I kinda like the simple belt from B, also.
And a slightly altered version of the Chest Detail from A...a little less "Darth Vader," but DEFINITELY with blinking lights!
The only bad things about B and C are that B looks too much like the "Stealth Suit" option already, and C looks too much like the "Crey Armor" option. But I must admit, I love the creativity of all three suits. -
I recently upgraded my VERY OLD cell phone to a new model, which can play various sound files as ringtones (including MP3 files). I was thinking it would be great if there were a way I could use some of the in-game music and sounds as ringtones and "events" (like incoming texts) on my phone.
Is there a way to do this, or is it against the EULA? (I should also say that I would be willing to pay a small fee for use of the music / sounds as ringtones and such, if it's possible.) -
The final mission of the story arc I'm creating contains ONLY custom-made enemies. I created an AV-, a boss-, a lieutenant-, and a minion-level enemy. I keep running into a specific problem. I would like the "regular" groups of enemies spread through the map to contain only minions. And the "patrol" groups to contain only lieutenants. Finally, I would like the AV to always be accompanied by AT LEAST one boss (even when soloed)...but on a full group, I would love to see the AV, two Bosses flanking him, 1 (or 2) lieutants, and as many minions as possible. I'm going for the "epic battle" feel.
Honestly, I'm not really understanding the setup for the enemy group thing. I can get the AV to spawn where I want him, but I can't seem to get the boss-level guys to spawn inside the mission AT ALL. Would I have to create separate boss events for the AV and for the boss-level guys? If so, is there any way to ensure that at least one Boss would be in support range for the AV? -
Samuraiko/Dark_Respite,
Your wonderful "City of" videos amazed me with the level of storytelling, humor, and pure technical skill. Imagine my delight when I stumbled across this offering. I've read fan fiction before, and really enjoyed some of the "what ifs" they provide...but I have to say, this is an entirely different creature.
I waited to post until I had read the first story arc of "The Course of Superhero Romance" IN ITS ENTIRETY, and I'm glad that I did! This goes beyond fan fiction, into the realm of the true writer...the heart of storytelling. You took characters I felt I already knew (at least somewhat), and truly HUMANIZED them. Your characterizations were SPOT ON! I found myself actually CARING about what happened, rooting for the heroes, cheering their triumphs, and sharing their sorrows.
You are a truly creative and talented person. I wish you every success, and thank you deeply for such a touching experience! -

Quote:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Like MutantX was saying: Energy melee (and similar) powers are animation FX. Weapons are like costume pieces now. Similarly to being only able to have Wings OR a cape because they both use the 'node' attached to the back; shields, axes, spines, swords, etc. are costume pieces that require a 'node' from the arm to attach to the character.
I guess I just have a mental block about this. I can easily understand coding a shield, axe, or sword as a costume piece would require a 'node' to attach to. But I can't understand why all powers that are obviously animation FX (Dark Melee, Electricity Melee, Energy Melee, Fire Melee, and Ice Melee), and those which somehow are less obviously animation FX (Claws and Spines) aren't treated the same way.
I was pretty sure that ALL the animation FX sets have AT LEAST one power in which the animation is either two-handed, or switches hands between strikes.
I might buy Claws as being specifically linked to each hand 'node', and being a "costume piece", since you COULD choose two different looks for right and left hand claws right from the main COSTUME tab...but that still leaves Spines as a standout. You can only select a look for your spines under the POWERS tab in the costume creator. To me, that would say they are coded more like the animation FX than the weapon skins.
I'm honestly not trying to be difficult about this, if it really is just a "numbers issue", which would create an unbalanced (overly-powerful) character, I fully understand. I'm not a min-maxer, and I'm not trying to figure out ways to get around the rules...I'm just one of those people who likes the rules to make some kind of sense to me. -
Quote:Probably the same reason you can't use Dual Blades or Claws with a shield: it uses an attack stance that requires both hands. Those 2-hands sets require the 'nodes' on both hands, leaving no 'node' on the character to hold a shield.
But the OTHER melee sets that have an animation with the left hand DON'T require a "node"? If a "node" is simply a point on the character map where they anchor something (weapon), wouldn't they also need to anchor the center point for the animation for ANY power?
For example, Energy Melee...the "pink pom poms of death". Wouldn't it need a "node" centered on each fist, for the animation to show there? Sounds just a bit fishy to me.
Oh well, I ended up making the character as an Energy / Shield Brute. It goes just as well with his Magic origin, and I'm hoping with the Going Rogue expansion, I'll be able to have him walk the line between hero and villain... -
Recently, I had an idea for a character concept I found interesting, and went to see if I could create it. My character concept called for him to carry a shield while using spines. Unfortunately, I know Spines are not available to a Tanker (which is what I really wanted him to be), but I thought that creating him as a Scrapper wouldn't be too bad. Sadly, I learned that you cannot select both Spines and Shields.
Since the shields animate as attached to the left forearm, I can understand the "greying out" of an attack powerset, like katana - the thought being that you can't effectively use a weapon in the same hand. But other than Battle Axe and War Mace, every other melee powerset has at least one attack that utilizes both hands. (Honestly, even those two have animations that include the left hand - Taunt, if nothing else.)
This leads me to my question. What is the justification for not allowing a character to use Shields and Spines at the same time? Is there some actual REASON for it, animation-wise (and please don't say "clipping issues," as there are a MILLION clipping problems that ARE allowed), or is it that there is some overlap of the powersets that would make a character using both powersets to be overly-powerful?
I just hate to lose an interesting character concept, for no good reason. -
I'm sure this is going to sound like a total newbie question, but since I am rather new to base-building, I guess that's ok... I have a *VERY* small SG (just myself, my Dad, and one friend of mine - and our alts). Needless to say, we're never going to be a LARGE SG, but we would like a reasonable level of functionality to our base. Until now, we've had a tiny hidden (8x8) plot, with 9 2x2 rooms. The free "entrance" room, a medbay, a teleport room with 2 porters (4 beacons), a power room, a control room, a central "SG meeting room", and 3 workshop rooms.
I was thinking about upgrading the plot to a 12x12 plot, and in working out the floorplan, I noticed that there's a good spot to put in a 3x3 oversight center (boy, that takes me back)...here's where my question comes in. Is it possible to have an oversight center WITH the combo unit *AND* separate power and a control rooms operating at the same time? In other words, can you run the combo power/control unit in conjunction with a Basic Generator and a Mainframe (with attached Database), in order to have enough power and control generated to run more teleporters? (I'm thinking about adding the 5x5 teleport room and eventually another 3x3, so that we can have teleporters to most (or all) of the zones...)
Is this possible, or just a pipe dream? <LOL> -

GOOD point.
So, where would be the best place to post a suggestion to the MODs to add something. Just one BIG item that costs way too much. I don't care what it does, just as long as it's a BIG DANG THING! Then we can work for the next year to earn enough to buy the BIG DANG THING! and when we get the BIG DANG THING! we can invite other people to come and look at our BIG DANG THING!

However, I'm pretty much barred from dressing as any of my in-game characters. I'm nowhere near 8 feet tall, and even if I fudge the height, there's still the fact that I am plus sized, and any of my character's costumes most likely would look terrible on a figure like mine. Nobody wants to see a fat woman in tight leather, and most armour on an oversized body only magnifies the chunk factor.
I don't plan on making a whole new character just to have one that looks like me, or something I could throw together with stuff from my closet. That's a little too close to cheating, IMHO.

For the most part, the body styles in the game are somewhat "ideallized" versions of the human form. To be honest, I don't know many people who have bodies as "perfect" as the characters in-game. I think everyone else who plays the game has a pretty good understanding of that.
As for the "nobody wants to see a fat woman in tight leather" line, a lot of people get upset about tight and revealing costumes on ANY body type. The usual argument is that there are children who play this game. (Of course since there's no amount of skin you can see in this game that is more than what is available on local television in prime-time viewing, I don't think that idea holds much water.) Personally, I think people are too hung up on ideallized "perfection", and far too repressed...but that's just me, I guess.
I say that if you enjoy roleplaying your character, who cares what other people think? Have fun, and don't let other people ruin it for you!
As for making a character who looks like you, the character who bears my forum name looks like me, if I were at my peak form. <LOL> And I'm planning to make a character who REALLY looks like me, now that they have Dual Blades and Willpower...those sets REALLY fit my playstyle!
