    This.

I'm over the BAF simply because of this. As a mission it's cool I guess, but I like the other 2 trials better even without the rediculous "all your powers look recharged but none of them really are" lag that is the escapee phase.
  2. My very first character never saw much life; spines/regen scrapper. Back in those days spines brought the ugly something fierce, and I just couldn't deal. He still sits on a server, 2600+ days since last login.

2nd was BS/DA scrapper, made a few days later and played into the teens (took forever in those days).

Unsubbed, Resubbed - played a few brutes - unsubbed again.

Resubbed. First 50 was the wm/sd brute, second was the sp/da scrapper and third will probably be the km/regen.

    I <3 melee.
  3. Build for 46.5% and put yourself 1 small purple from the iCap for defense. (59% iirc - although honestly there are so many buffs going around that my /SD brute tends to have rediculous numbers in trials so this part seems less necessary) Grab a Rebirth Radial side for your self heal, build to get solid DDR and then fear nothing.*

    * - Except for rampant endurance drain and massive auto-hit/unresistable dmg. But you know, just about everything fears that last one.
  4. Concept-wise I have one that I've tried out a few incarnations and might reuse for a TW toon. Outside of that, I plan on rolling several of them with various secondaries(primaries on tanks I guess); I've wanted a massive 2-hander melee set for this game since CoH was new. I am unbelievably stoked to for this to come out.

I'm less concerned about what it does mechanically at the outset, I just want to try it out with various ideas and see which one sticks in both concept and play.

    Answers anyway:

1: Sure, plenty. But I'm not worried about those.

2: I play (or have played) all the melee weapon sets to some degree, or in the case of wm/, iBlinged out +3 goodness. My first couple of characters were bs/da and bd/regen scrappers oh so long ago. I was going to say I wasn't rerolling anything, just making new ones - but now that you remind me of some old orphaned toons, I might just reuse a name if I can. Who knows?

3: It gives me another powerset to try out with a goofy concept that I have yet to find something I like to fit it. It screams SS/, but I'm not a fan of SS, despite it's obvious awesomeness. TW/ might just be the trick. Once I see the full array of weapon choices I'm sure all sorts of random things will come to mind.
  5. ... (not so) patiently waits for his Titan/xx brute experimentation to begin.
  6. If you're looking at pieces like Armageddon, chances are you can easily ED cap the damage of the aura in the other 5 slots. (while still having good Acc and EndRdx) Once you ED cap (or come close) dmg in something, then procs are the way to go.
  7. My only (admittedly minor) issue with the fury changes (not so recent at this point) is that the only way to completely get the bar maxed is with the alignment power Frenzy. I forget where it functionally caps outside of that, but it does. I guess the intent was for the 90-100% range to be the proverbial "11." We can go there, just don't get to all the time.

That said, I do like it somewhat more than OG fury, these days being able to hit the 70-80 mark from purely one's own attacks is pretty sweet.

Yeah, that @#$% has got to stop. I don't have too many lag issues with trials outside this one particular thing. Please fix this somehow.

For the record, I like the trials, but I don't feel the need to run them all every time I sit down to play. I also solo most of the time, if only because it lets me pick what I want to do more easily. Still, team content, especially where I have to move around, trigger self heals, watch for clueless team-mates not paying attention to their Seq warnings (seriously, still people?), and all the other so called "false difficulty" stuff is fun as well.

Having said that, this is another one where I don't see the big deal in adding very difficult soloable iContent. Make them difficult in mob size and extraneous mechanics. All of them have to have the potential for failure, just like the trials. Empy merit on a timer for finishing the arc (not single solo mission, I mean really) and astrals for certain objectives. Same reward tables.*

No reason it couldn't be balanced out.

    * - Mark my words, these missions come about, there will be threads about how the reward tables are broken, and why in the name of <insert> does <poster's name here>'s omfgwtfbbq <AT> get <reward roll that is not deemed worthy of perception of performance>.

A: There is no evidence that will be the case with every new issue. They will have some for Incarnate trials only, but see point B for what I think will be the majority of new costume parts.

B: As of Issue 21 subscribers and non-subscribers will have a plethora of costume options unlockable for cash (paragon point) purchase. It's a safe bet they plan on releasing new ones to the store on a regular basis. Revenue stream.

Methinks you missed the part where the only costume pieces tied to it are Incarnate costume pieces. The word "All" is a bit hyperbolic.

Likewise what's not important to you, costume pieces, are indeed a 'must have' for getting new players into the game and retaining them.
Of which there are a gajillion (hyperbole) already available, and very soon purchasable through PPoints. Which, by the way, is probably what they are banking on as a major revenue stream in the f2p model. It reeks a little of QQ to single out a, what, couple dozen parts (out of how many in this game again?) simply because you don't *want* to do the content for which they are a reward.

To put it another way, keeping them as an incarnate reward isn't going to have any affect on costume pieces being a draw to the game given the mass of them that will be in the PPoint store, plus the ones that are free, plus the ones that are unlockable through all sorts of other content.

I never said costume pieces were not important to me, I said I failed to see them being tied to a trial reward as being a problem. They are dirt cheap in terms of merits, and unlocked account wide.

Why doesn't anyone complain that they have to run the ITF multiple times in order to unlock the Nictus shield? It's the same thing. If I want my Rularuu hammer or sword, I have to go to the Shadow Shard to get it. Same thing. There were already costume rewards that are locked behind content.

People who will do everything in the game BUT run trials are locked out of them.

    PLEASE UNLOCK THESE COSTUME PIECES.
You don't get the badges for completing them without running them, what makes costume pieces any different?

It's a costume piece. Nothing about it makes it a must have. Nothing at all. It's simply a reward for a certain piece of content. Really shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Furthermore, there are avenues to astral merits outside of trials, so should be even less of a big deal.

I, personally, fail to see the problem.

Edit: I forgot to mention there is a flaw in your first complaint; Incarnate costume pieces can only be worn by lvl 50s.

    Ascension Armor

Ascension Armor represents the pinnacle of becoming an Incarnate.
Each costume piece you purchase is unlocked account-wide in exchange for Astral or Empyrean merits but it can only worn by a character that has achieved Level 50.
Thus locking out players who don't play at lvl 50 in the first place.

This. Admittedly, I've not run the Keyes trial yet, but I imagine that a well balanced team isn't going to go from steamrolling (or regular old success) to completely crippled (and thus failure) based on your choice of powersets - just like the other trials.

Take any one of those combinations that you find fun to play, then pimp it out (partially optional), get an alpha if not slotted already, and start running trials for lvl shifts. Develop new tricks and tactics, work with the team, pay attention to leaders and all the various extra parameters (sequestration, fist, disintegration, polar opposite dmg field thingy, fuzzy bunnies designed to lull you into a sense of security, whatever), that sort of stuff matters more than powerset choice.

Successful trials are more about the players than the toons they bring. Team composition is somewhat important, but that can only go so far if players start getting lax. The other side of that are teams with lots of outlier level uber-builds. Steamrolling is Steamrolling, at that point you could bring anything you wanted.

My impression is that it's less forcing than it seems right now. Think about it; a league full of tanks (or really, any AT that doesn't normally carry a heal) carrying T4 Rebirth, perhaps just with a enough Barrier and Ageless to keep them layered, if not doubled up. Bam. Everyone R HLR. Okay, so then it's "forcing" everyone to choose a certain power, but not really since that's an extreme example that would have to be coordinated beforehand. Besides, I took that power anyway on my brute.

In answer to the OP: Rrruuuuuuuulllaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrruuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!! At least for my spiky cloud of death looking scrapper. Probably Cims for the brute, but I haven't decided for certain. Already have a t1 seer on that character. Adding the psi dmg and fortitude might be the way to go though, even if the Cims suit his look way way better.

    Momentum

I wouldn't bank on it having a speed buff -and- a dmg buff as part of of the Momentum mechanic, but who knows at this point. It could have a BU/FU style power for +dmg and the mechanic affects activation/recharge only, for example. Or it could be a Power Siphon clone; click power that activates the mechanic and each attack stacks whatever the buff is to a stack limit. All just conjecture at this point.

A greatsword combination is far quicker to flow into than to chain single attacks and reset between each one. Imagine click a power, queue a second one and then a third one and so on and if you don't pause to redraw or reset, or get interrupted - I can see three attacks falling into the time 2 would take.

A straight shot, cross over and then leg shot that causes knockdown all in one string.

If it is done this way it makes great sense. How about a leg shot that does knockdown + a cut + a crushing blow as they fall doing greater damage as well as the foe is on their back -wounded and crushed by a great weapon.
Yeah, that's basically the first thing that came to my mind as well. Less strike/reset, more flowing one attack into another. Perhaps it's a modified version of combos/fury. The more swings, the quicker/smoother the flow becomes. The bar drops like a fury bar, slowing your flow, or rises speeding your flow. Key difference being that only your attacks count, not getting attacked. The combo aspect would just dictate how one attack animates into another without resetting the stance.

Yeah, maybe that plays into brute playstyle - but so does Power Siphon in theory and many folks prefer that set on scrappers over brutes. (haven't tried the latter, can't speak to it).

Either way, I've been wanting a 2-handed set that wasn't a katana since day one. I'll be playing this set a lot. (Nothing against Katana, fine weapon that, just wanted other 2 hander choices)

Edit: I see Leo beat me to the "similar to combos" idea, without the bar. Which makes more sense and is more likely. The "bar" I guess could be considered hypothetical. (experation timer on each buff)
  18. spines/fire/blaze

    spines/dark/blaze

    spines/elec/blaze

Any of the above are definitely murdering murderers.
  19. I'm guessing that the take-away from that screenie isn't that we'll be seeing snake lower-bodies as a PC costume option anytime soon.

Kidding aside, Sorceress Serene Sells Snake Skins by the Sea Shore? Ok, not kidding aside.
  20. Well, since non-VIP access locks one out of incarnate content, I'd probably give my 50s a break during any lapse period and pick two of my alts to keep lvling/building.

It's possible I'd want to leave one slot with a 50 and the second slot open for creating/deleting various alts until I found another one I liked enough to keep building. The first scenario is more likely though.

Or a combination, probably keep one of my mid-lvl toons and leave an available slot for experimenting with stuff. Eventually something would fill that slot and become the next obsession though.

Are there actually missions that send you to MI or arcs within? I've wandered through there whomping on random things, but aside from maybe forming a GM team and heading there, does it have any content of its own? (honest question). The times I went there never really felt the same as the blueside hazard zone though. Maybe that's a lvl thing. They seem much more daunting as a lowbie compared to hopping into one with a lvl50 that solos x8 missions as a matter of course.

I like the Faultline idea - with Arachnos there it totally makes sense and would be a nice level range for a redside hazard zone, though I was thinking more in the 35-45 range with the Praetorian beachhead idea.

  24. /signed.

    I couldn't agree more Dechs.

Outside of rampant hacks/exploits, I've never had problems with f2p "communities." But just like I can selectively sound filter in real life, I can use /ignore in games.

Your spot on though, when this goes live, it will be up to us as players to demonstrate that F2P != death knell to the folks who give the game a try.

I, for one, tend to have help chat running in a window almost all the time, and intend on answer questions to the best of my limited ability. I actually look forward to showing off my couple of Fully Operational Battle-Stations (witness the firepower!!!) to the freebies.
  25. That's a sweet edit by the way. Very nicely done. Good timing on the inserts of the graffiti and fits in great with the music and the mood.

My only comment would be to use less of the blend effects (weird squiggly warp between edits), but that's a matter of taste and I really only noticed one on my first viewing.

    Great work.

I've never done demo-records, but I am a camera/lighting crew person by profession and have decent editing skills and a good voice for v/o stuff. I'm happy to help if I can and you have a need I can fill.

Looking forward to the next one!
