  1. Isaiah has been kind of behind the scenes campaigning for a Luke Cage movie with him in the starring role. He's a bit of a fan.

Problem is that he's really not a very good actor. Sure he can charm the pants off you with the persona he puts on for the Old Spice commercials but for straight acting he's pretty bland.

Give him a year of acting lessons though and a good director and he would kick all sorts of *** as Luke.
  2. Once again TFS scores. I love those guys.
  3. And yet Smersh's comment is valid. Not because this thread doesn't still contain valid posts. Not because it doesn't make sense to revive old threads instead of create new threads.

Rather because the forum mods tend to be overzealous and have a zero tolerance policy in terms of reviving old threads. I've seen threads that are as recent as two weeks old get revived and have lots of new and interesting posts in them get shut down due to necro posting. I'm sure you consider it a pretty stupid policy and frankly so do I. If an old thread gets a new post that is valid and contributes then there is no reason to kill it. Nonetheless odds are this thread will get locked for necroposting. Fortunately it won't be till Tuesday when the three day weekend is over. What we are supposed to do is create a new thread with a post in the first message linking to the old thread.

But since you already did this and the thread will last till Tuesday I might as well give my reasons for not doing architect missions. Please note, all of these are reasons I quit playing and writing missions. They may no longer be valid but it took so long to address them that I just plain gave up and no longer have the slightest clue where the system currently stands.

1.) Lowered experience unless you use standard groups or make your mobs overpowered. I had a mission where the mobs were much more challenging than standard mobs. And yet because they didn't have all of their powers available and because one mission contained only lieutenants and minions they were worth about 30 percent of the experience than a bunch of Outcasts would have been. When I boosted their power levels to get full experience they were causing multiple team wipes.

2.) Farming exploit missions fill out the top 90 percent of the lists. Every time a farming mission is created that uses an exploit it is eventually discovered and disabled, but it isn't deleted so unless the author deletes it the mission remains in the list with it's 5 star rating.

3.) Supergroups and coalitions voting up members missions even if those missions are nothing more than a small lab filled with Hellions and place marker text.

Let's say somebody told you that there was a huge bookstore that had some great unpublished stories by your favorite authors. But 99 percent of the shelf space was filled with bad fan-fic and slash-fic. And everybody used a pen name so in order to find the good stories you had to actually read the first few pages of each book.

THAT is what AE is like.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If somebody writes a good enough mission that it becomes a devs choice then they should get a special marker for their global.

IE Devs choose a mission as a devs choice. Author gets a marker tagged to their global. Call them X authors. If enough X authors give an AE mission 4 or 5 stars then that person becomes an X author as well. This means that the list of well written missions gets tagged by people who actually know solid mission writing when they see it. And it means that the base of reviewers who have decent taste keeps growing rather than being limited to just a few devs.

That way the general population can continue voting up farms or friends but there will still be a method for locating well written missions other than just devs choice and guest authors.
  4. So how much ram do you have? Dropping connecting during zoning is usually caused by not having enough ram.

Cooling pads don't just cool the outside of computers. They have fans in them and force air into and draw hot air from them. Now if you don't have vents on the bottom of your laptop then it would just be cooling the outside. However I don't recall ever seeing a laptop without vents in the bottom.

It doesn't matter if the computer has been off for hours. It takes virtually no time for a video card (or chip) to heat up. Just like leaving your stove off for hours doesn't mean that a burner will take several minutes to heat up. How much time overheating takes is based completely on how much stress the GPU is under and how well it is being cooled.
  7. Yep, we aren't going to get a standalone other than this one, and none through official channels not even this one. Marvel complained that people could make copies of marvel characters and those copies couldn't be policed because they would be made offline.

I expect them to start suing art supply manufacturers any day now.

Sounds like he's just agreeing with himself.
Doing a search via google it seems that this thread is the only place where that quote actually shows up. It suppose could have been from a pm or deleted thread. Since he started the topic twice there is no reason he couldn't have done other threads on it.
  9. I've got that somewhere, and converted it to English. But it's not on my current system and I don't remember how I did the conversion. I think it involved stone knives and bearskins.
  10. Step 1: Drop the adaptor. Like Texas said Belkin is crap (though he said it more nicely). Also usb adaptors are just plain an inferior option and meant mainly for laptops. For a desktop get an internal wireless card.

Step 2: External booster antenna for the wireless card. If you are already getting 3 bars much of the time then pretty much any external booster antenna will be plenty. It will work even better if you get an antenna for the router as well.

Step 3: Reduce interference. A lot of the time people will have their cable modem and router setting right next to each other or even on top of each other. Bad idea, it causes interference and reduces signal strength. Not by much but then again when you only have 3 bars it doesn't take much. They should be separated by at least a couple feet if possible.

Step 4: Try rotating your antenna to face in different directions. Although the antennas of routers and the adapter are both supposed to be omnidirectional the truth is that their orientation can greatly affect signal strength. I used to run on a router with external antenna and had another such antenna on my computer. Rotating either antenna just 45 degrees could boost signal strength by a couple bars easily. And this was 100 feet away through 3 walls and a floor. Also don't assume that pointing the antennas directly at each other is the way to go. In some cases having them at 90 degrees to each other (horizontal and vertical) can actually result in greater signal strength.

Well, judging from his posts in the SGU threads I'm guessing he actually watched a couple episodes out of the corner of his eye while he was on the computer doing something. And then judged the rest either by overheard comments or the IMDB synopsis.

Sorry Durakken. Not a cheap shot against you but rather against your method of watching tv shows which appears to be a combination of distraction and assumption.

    S.
It wasn't a picture of pirate Amy. It was just a picture of a young girl in a red hat and boots. That wasn't a picture frame either, it was a mirror. She was holding the picture of the little girl on top of it. Then she took the picture off and set it in her lap. She looked at her face in the mirror. Then she took a different picture, one she had been holding against the back of the mirror with her other hand, and laid it on top of the mirror.

    Lusca

There was also a point in time where the tentacles used to be more clustered together. It was almost impossible to attack one without aggroing another. At least that is how I remember it. Of course that could have been the fact that it was groups of 30 or more heroes attacking.

And yes incarnate abilities and IOs make it much much easier. Get together a group without incarnate powers. Then use your second build to slot nothing but SOs. Now try it again.

Lastly once upon a time GMs didn't scale. Those were the days when it would take 3 groups a long time and make it almost impossible for any less than 3 if they were of the appropriate level for the zone. I remember Lusca spawnings where the hospital had a revolving door installed.

And Necro. I don't think that it was the IOs that made people stop fighting them. Once upon a time GMs gave out a significant xp reward. If you were of the appropriate level for the zone they could give you one or two bars. If you were a low level in a high level group they could give you an entire level. Then the devs hit them with a double whammy, both intended to solve the powerleveling problem. They reduced the huge experience reward to almost nothing and they implemented GM scaling. Either one would have solved the problem but it is the lowered xp that stops people from taking them down.

Once the novelty of facing Lusca (or any other GM) for the first time is done there is really no point in doing it again unless you are helping out somebody else who is new to the experience. A GM now gives out experience roughly equivalent to defeating an ordinary boss of your level. It's an epic (well, was epic) battle with a snickers bar as a reward.
  14. Well, it's nothing to do with Firefox unless you changed its settings to something odd. I use Firefox 4 and am having no problems.

    Maybe remove and reinstall?
  15. We had to have a duplicate doctor episode. They have to make a duplicate so at season end he can be shot by the space suit.

And of course Rory empathizes. He was synthetic for a couple thousand years.
  16. Considering buying a ticket, going in for the drawing scene, and then leaving.

  17. When you say you are petitioning it are you using the /petition command or /bug? Just asking because I've seen people say they have petitioned something and then say that they did it by using the /bug command since it was obviously a bug.
  18. I'll play up the counter point on this. What the company does with the trial makes sense. You can not find just plain ordinary CoH or CoV in any regular game store any more. They can be found in second hand game stores or places that handle discontinued merchandise but not new on the shelves.

It's kind of like watching the blu ray collectors edition of a movie and then complaining that the vhs tape you bought from the dollar store doesn't have the same quality and special features.
  19. I enjoyed it and I'm sure I'll love the next season. Yet I absolutely hate that they fell back on "Chuck loses the intersect" which has been done to death.
  20. I still liked Lois and Clark more than Smallville. Of course that may just be fond memories since I haven't watched it in years.

Ok, now you are making no sense, or else you are not understanding what I am saying.

The trope itself consists of nothing more than "Unusually large sewers." that's it. It doesn't matter what form they come in if they are unusually large then they fit the trope.

However when the basic structures of said sewers are virtually identical then it can't be passed off as just being part of the trope. It only makes sense to acknowledge that there is a possibility that the resistance base in CoH was based off the one in Spiderman Unlimited. Especially considering how many other homages are present in this game.

Your argument is akin to saying a comic featuring talking salamanders who live in a sewer, fight crime, eat pizza and are taught by a boxing squirrel could not possibly be an homage to TNMT because talking animals is a trope that has been around forever.
  22. Well, they are planning on canceling Chuck after this season anyway. So what better way than to put it into the Friday death slot and blame the falling ratings on audience loss of interest.
  23. Mandu

    Wait, seriously?

Too close to be merely an old trope. That's like saying the bus scene in Doomsday had nothing to do with the bus scene in The Warriors because it's an old trope to have a bus full of bad guys.

But I think we need the artist to step forward on this one.

    Sgu 5/9

Since when have the words "A movie is not going to happen" meant anything in the world of money? If the series sells well on dvd and and gets good ratings at the rerun level then suddenly it will be "Oh yeah. We had plans for a movie all along. We just wanted to wait until the right script came along and none of the actors were busy with other projects."
