My lev 50 Dark Blasts/Emp Defender likes to use the "Tenacious Testacles" power when they come up from the Netherworld and slowly suck the lev 1s dry
LOL
-
I must admit that basically the only thing I haven't done that much in 4 years on the game is PvP.
Especially in RV.
It looks like fun, but I have never created a "build" for any of my lev 50s for PvP purposes.
On Infinity I have at my disposal;
50 Nrg/Nrg Blaster
50 Fire/Fire Blaster
50 Willpower/Mace Tank
50 Fire/Fire Tank
50 Willpower/Super Strength Tank
50 Katana/Dark Armor Scrapper
50 Earth/Emp Controller
50 Emp/Dark Blasts Defender
On Freedom I have at my disposal;
50 Elec/Elec Brute
50 Ninjas/Storms Mastermind
Any of these be beneficial/survivable for much in RV?
I think PvP would be cool and all.
I have just never been "hardcore" about it.
Might be because of all the arcs I like to do in other zones.
Dunno.
But any of these ATs with certain builds do better than the others?
For PvP purposes that is.
PvE is not hard for me and from what I understand they are two TOTALLY different types of monsters. -
Quote:I have to admit I have always loved my 50 Nrg/Nrg Blaster. My top 2 choices for soloing would be:
Fire/Ice - This combo has the best of both worlds. Amazing AOE potential right out the gate and the mitigation from Ice to not faceplant as much.
Ice Patch and Shiver are what make this set shine, once you get Shiver you can melt entire groups of guys with BU+Aim Fireball+ Firebreath(Which as of next issue no longer has to be a 'Breath'!)
OR
Energy/Energy - More single target focsed, learning how to leverage knockback can be huge to your survival. Nothing beats being able to wave your hand at a guy punching you and have him go soaring across the room, smack against the wall and collapse in a tangled mess on a couch.
The ragdoll physics make KB all the more useful for mitigation.
Not to mention you get Build Up at level 4!
It was my very first toon almost 4 years ago and after more than a few respecs, changing Epic choices and such I still love it.
Right now it has the Pyre Mastery with it and I have kinda turned it into a Blapper and it is more fun than ever -
Quote:I wish they would show a baseball stadium/dome/sports' facility in the city somewhereThe Paragon Citry Privateers are the baseball team - Apex mentions them in one of the early comics.
I know there is the "arena" but it just doesn't feel the same.
Heck even a race-track (horses or cars) would be interesting to see.
Or even a Mall? LOL -
Quote:In retrospect I wish I would have did that when I first started on the game almost 4 years ago.Not if Ulli is around.
But Guardian is a great server. One idea is that you roll up a new character on every server and joining their foremost global channel and stand around in Atlas for an hour or two. Then you can choose the one you like the most.
//Jack
Since I was sooOooOoOo not used to a MMO type of game, I was such a newb that I didn't even realize that the game was played on servers with real people and such that I thought the game was just a typical game ya played on the pcLOL
I just happened to randomly pick Infinity...
it stuck with me.
Lots of people helped a LOT with me got me thru with some awesome knowledge back then -
Quote:Well i just spent a good 20-30 mins in Freedom and tested some of the Chat channels that are listed on the forums.
1) EVERYTHING ive read so far in broadcast is AE this AE that AE farming. AE AE AE AE AE... I sometimes question how well they play or if they ever leave Atlas.
2) People complaining and argueing about this or that and blah blah blah. 1 Word - Anoying.
Im crossing freedom off my posible locations.
3) on the chat channels that i have added have been *Cricket...Cricket*
Liberty so far seems to be the best. But at this point im still going through the servers.
I have to admit that in the 6 months or less I have been primarily on Freedom I notice a lot of AE stuff......
but I just ignore it.
Plus....
I am not in Atlas Park all that much anyways.
Other zones (especially the RWZ, Cimerora, Peregrene Island and Founders Falls) have tons of peeps playing NON-AE stuff -
Neat build if I say so myself.
I have a 50 Fire/Fire/Fire Mastery Blaster also.
I just love the Fire (Pyre) Mastery extras...
but it is just a personal choice
IO'd (without sets) on every slot with 50 IOs....
I have always been happy with that for most of my toons so it is all cool -
Quote:Agreed......Barracuda's about the last SF I'd recommend for that, since the whole thing is about how you don't stand a chance against the boss because he's just so amazing and awesome and you're not really worth a darn without the super special temp powers.
That said, there are definitely arcs that can make you feel pretty special. On the villain side, there's the arc for Dean MacArthur (and then Leonard) that's pretty cool in that regard, and doesn't even require you to make it all the way to 50. For heroes around the same level, I think the Striga Island arcs are pretty good for "you take the fight to the bad guys and really clean them out".
I try like crazy to send all my toons to Striga for as much of the Striga-Goodness that I can do
The arcs are interesting. The temp-powers are nifty.
The leveling is nice too if you stick to your guns and chug thru it!!
After that.... off to Croatoa to do the same thing with each and every contact there too!!
Plus.... if ya do all the arcs, the GMs, and the Katie Hannon TF there in Croatoa you can get your hands on a sweet Accolade Power! (Geas of the Kind Ones) -
I agree with the many thoughts about what you would WANT out of a server.
For the first 36+ months I played exclusively on Infinity.
I loved the community and the respect of the players.
But with all the wierd times I work each week at my job I felt I needed to find a server that had more of a cross-section of people who were playing at more and different times of the day/night too. (Freedom)
In the last 6 months I haven't really gotten to know much of the player base on Freedom but I can easily tell there is a LOT more teaming/activities at more times of the day/night.
I almost felt like a traitor for not creating new toons on Freedom but I ran out of charachter slots on Infinity and almost everyone of them is a 50 anyways.
So since moving to Freedom I have made a few toons to hit 50 and doing it mostly soloing believe it or not.LOL
But..... enjoying every minute of it.
After all.... it IS City of Heroes -
I have a 50 Ninjas/Storms MM (with the Electrical Charge Mastery)
and I have to admit...... LOADS OF FUN
I also have a 30 Bots/Force Fields MM.....
I like it but man it can be a chore at times. -
My "stereotype" is a theme for all my toons.
Every single toon of mine comes from a fictional island nation
in the North Atlantic called Magellen
I stumbled upon the idea years ago with my first toon actually.
This was all made possible because I named the very first toon I had
"Iron Monger" and after lev 12 or so....
I was told by the devs that I had to rename it...
because of the Iron Man villian.
In retrospect it was the best thing that ever happened to me.
I renamed that Nrg/Nrg Blaster "Wake of Magellen" and it just FELT right!
So I rolled with making a backstory in high detail for that toon....
and every toon since.
Now all my toons are named "_____ of Magellen"
Each and every AT imaginable for the most part.
I rigged it where all my Magellens are exclusively in my
Independent Nation of Magellen Super Group
and have slowly racked up enough prestige thru the years
for a VERY nice and big base with all the stuff you would want in a base(TPs to all the zones, Med-bays, etc, etc)
I even created a TF/arc with the AE a while back
that had all my Magellens "cloned" so to speak in the story arcs
to be involved with the storylines as NPCs
I could not even imagine making a toon now....
that didn't have the Magellen theme to it anymore, LOL -
Once again and not to sound like a broken record here but WELCOME also!
I have played for 4+ years myself....
but I admit I am usually just too lazy to post stuff on here......
but I read it daily!
Very informative.....
very much a special community feel to the whole game.
As many people have stated also....
it is the journey to level your charachter/toons and not the destination.
This is and has been for the most part my only hobby for the last 4 years.
Like my wife used to tell me;
"It beats doing drugs....
drinking like a fish....
or beating the spouse.
And far cheaper too!"
LOLOL -
Quote:I've always had stamina on basically every character. Running out of endurance is the opposite of fun for me, so I try to build characters so I never have to worry about endurance. Apparently, this is a moral failing according to some people, but none of us are perfect.
Anyway, it looks like I am going to be doing quite a few respec when i19 comes out, because I have stamina on basically every character I have, and I will definately be able to benefit from it's change to an inherant.
I'm basically continuing to take stamina on characters when I feel it's appropriate, because I am still not interested in running out of endurance if I can avoid it. What's a few more respecs to do when I already have so many ahead of me? I figure a couple more aren't going to kill me.
Agreed.
I have taken Stamina and triple slotted every single toon for 4 years now for the very same reasons.
Running out of endurance is my least fav thing in the game for any and all toons of mine
So.... when i19 comes around I will try a respec on everyone of the toons (since it seems like I have a billion free respecs left) and test the differences -
I agree with a lot that has been said too.
I have a 50 Nrg/Nrg/Pyre Mastery Blaster and the melee is pretty nice
It would even be nicer if I slotted better for it....
but it will someday
I have a 50 Fire/Fire/Pyre Mastery Blaster also and the fire-swords, fire-breath, combustion etc does fine too :-) (Bonfire helps me a LOT when soloing an inside map)
But I have to admit..... a Rad/Fire sounds intriguing to try -
-
For me the only changes for the most part are whether or not
to go to Praetoria or not with a new toon.
I have a kabillion free respecs for every toon I have over lev 30
(which seems endless anyways)
and will most likely try to adjust an inherent stamina for them
when I do those respecs.
I am actually excited about doing the respecs.
Otherwise I love what has happened since i18
and I am REALLY looking forward to i19 BIG TIME -
Quote:Sorry, yes. That was a pre-coffee error, but that's exactly what I've got slotted in there
I totally edited that to save embarrassment.
Really helps with def based EBs and those damn robots with OMGWTFBBQ lethal defense.
Added bonus of this setup: You're a ninja, and you actually have the ability to flip out and kill stuff without running away all the time
Aside:
I never fight States or Lady liberty straight up. Too much lethal resist. I walk up to them in a mission, I turn around, arm nuclear weapons and come back.
Its the only way to be sure you know. Well, I guess you could bring friends, but I like taking care of EBs solo. It makes me feel important
Impressive info for that certain type of build.
I was trying not to do a Stalker with Katana because I have a lev 50 Katana/Dark Armor Scrapper and it was a chore til I hit the mid to late 40s because of end issues etc.
But once I got the Epic Power Pool of Body Mastery it became fun again.
I have to admit.....
I am SERIOUSLY thinking of making a Katana/Ninja Stalker now.
Oh...... because of my mad skills of working 2 days in a row of 16+ hour shifts I have gotten that KM/Ninja Stalker to lev 6 now...... woot woot! LOL -
Either way on all this I want to thank everyone for the VERY useful info
From the side-switching, to the SG leadership/invite stuff to the Patron Pool arc(s) and everything
Gracias and danke one and all -
Sounds like a "win-win" for not having to have another SG invite to me!
Any of my other toons that would be the "Super-Leader" or what not is also fine with me.
I pretty much play them all the time equally
BONUS!!! -
Quote:So once my blaster becomes a Vigilante everything is normal. Not entirely correct.
The Hero SG leader would retain both his status as leader AND his base access if he became a Vigilante and called it a day. Only by fully becoming a Villain would that character be demoted and lose base access. My Crab Spider is the leader of a small VG, and I retained all the privileges and abilities thereof even after becoming a Rogue. Including entering, editing, and using the facilities inside his base.
When in doubt, remember that Vigilante = Hero with extra travel privileges, and Rogue = Villain with extra travel privileges. This applies to SGs and bases, PvP, and any other situation where Vigilantes and Rogues are not specifically accounted for.
Once he becomes a Villian he obviously cannot use the SG membership.
Same when he becomes a Rogue I would assume.
Then when he becomes a hero again I would guess he would need a SG invite? LOLOL -
Danke for the info
I was hoping that would be the answer for what I was wondering about -
Long story short I have about 15 toons in my own SG (The Independent Nation of Magellen on Infinity)
My very first toon from about 4 years ago is a lev 50 Nrg/Nrg Blaster.
That particular toon is the SG founder/leader of the SG.
Every other member/toon in the SG are mine also.
I am curious about what would happen if I take my Blaster (Wake of Magellen) to Vigilante and then to Villian....
concerning SG stuff that is.
I am only interested in side-switching this toon for a short while because I want it to have access to the Patron Power at it's disposal once it becomes a full-fledged villian.
Would the leadership fall to another one of my toons I assume?
I wouldn't care... since I play them all personally anyways.
But.....
once it becomes that villian.....
I will want it to become a Rogue....
and then a hero again.
Would it still even be a member of the SG or no??
This was always a gray area to me.
Danke in advance for the info -
Thanks guys for the ideas.
At the moment I am roaming around Mercy Island with a Kinetic Melee/ Ninjitsu Stalker and I have to admit it has been fun thus far.
Only at lev 4 but it seems to have the feel of some potential to me.
I much prefer the KM for this toon vs. the KM/Energy Aura brute I roamed Praetoria with.
That brute got on my nerves because it seemed like all the KM was knocking the foes away from me and preventing the fury bar come into play too much for my tastes.
But I have to admit.....
this stalker just feels more like the KM fits it better -
I have atleast one lev 50 for about every AT in the game....
except I have not attempted much of anything as a Stalker.
I was wanting to see if I could drum up some pointers, experiences, and info about Stalker builds.
Mainly in the durability aspect.
Which type is GENERALLY the best in the defensive part of being a Stalker?
Danke in advance!
