  1. I'd just like to add:

My WarShade doesn't feel confined to the ingame story one bit. I think I talked to ShadowStar once and then forgot all about the Kheldian arcs.

Kheldians however have more flexibility in this sense than Soldiers though. Redside could us an EAT that isn't so bound to Arachnos as that is harder to explain away, at least until you unlock a 2nd costume that is.

  3. At your current level, the most urgent thing I'd want slotted, would have to be a Karma -KB protection. Nothing makes playing Blasters worse than getting knocked around like crazy, this one IO will stop that from happening 98% of the time.

Beyond that, let the Blaster grow into who they want to be. I've found Blasters, more than any other AT, to be able to evolve into varied paths as they level.

The path my main Energy/Energy took was varied.

Started out as a simple blaster, I avoided taking melee attacks as a result.
Then I took Bonesmasher as a filler power... 2 levels later I'd evolved into a Blapper.
This worked well for the 22-32 range.
Shortly after that though, my Blapping style started to suffer.

Then I picked up Superspeed for concept. I already had Stealth. This combination would eventually finalize what he evolved into.

By the 40's I had turned into a silent assassin.
I would use SS+Stealth to ghost missions (minions are below me, no point in wasting energy ) straight to the boss.
I'd stand toe to toe with them and buff up, hitting Aim and BU I'd then give them a massive 1-2 punch with Bonesmash and TF. A quick follow up with Burst and most bosses are gone! Liberal use of Power Push makes taking harder targets down easier.

Once he 'evolved' into the assassin I was able to drop Hasten as it stopped getting used. At 50 I took teleport Foe, to assist in getting the bosses alone for the kill.
  4. Not totally useless...

The yelping will make kids cry.
  5. I've avoided IO's for the most part up til now. Just frankenslotting here and there.

Like Sam though, I've recently started to feel 'behind the times' with SO only builds.

I'm slowly teaching myself how to IO a character. I get bored easily, ploding through the lists though, so I'm attempting to do this without crunching any numbers or even using Mids. I know a few basics but for the most part I'm 'winging it'

The way I do it, I look to fully set a specific power each level. Focusing on only one power makes it easier for me. Starting at level 35.

Once I decide which power is getting a set I look at the recipes for that type and pick the one with the best bonuses. Mainly I look for anything with Recharge or Acc global bonuses as they usually end up having impressive AoE defense for all 6.

I then spend a ton more than I have to, buying already crafted enhancments, to fill all slots. Occasionally I'll leave a bid up overnight but most always I overbid to 'buy it nao' and get r done. I can't stand the metagame of collecting salvage and running to a crafting table etc. So I'm willing to spend millions more than I have to for the convenience factor. Besides, not IOing all these years while using the market to sell has me sitting on quite a bit so Inf isn't an issue.

Thankfully, because if it was, and I had to go through the extra steps of gathering salvage etc, I just wouldn't bother.

So my advice to Sam would be; Don't worry about any 'Right' way to do it.
Once you start slotting sets and seeing the increased performance, you'll get better at it by default. Same way you got better at knowing how to use SO's so long ago.
  6. If I was putting money on it...

I'd have to say the next one will be either:
    A) Flying Disc - Just a simple disk, shiny version and colorable version. After the confusion with the naming of the frisbee emote, they have to be thinking it'd be a quick sell and not that hard to implement.
    I'd give this 2 to 1 shot.

    B) Bird Transformation - Utilizing the Hawk from the Beast set, seems like a natural progression after Coyote.
    I'd give this..
Well, not sure what I'd give that as I'm banking on A.
  7. I seriously doubt we'll ever have direct access to those specific pieces. They fall under the 'Unique NPC' rule.

Same reason we won't get Back Alley Brawlers gauntlets. They tend to keep those things to be like signatures.
  8. Hehe...

I can't even bring myself to delete a level 4 I made 5 years ago!

    I would never delete a 50. Though I've only got 3 so...

The only time I ever deleted a character is when I had no choice on my home server, even then it was only on a toon I had no good concept for. Since Freedom, I've used countless transfers just to clear room on my home servers without having to delete the various level 20's and such.

This is true and why I say I want to be able to take them at their word for it.
If the reason the swords and axes aren't included, is to elevate them to trophy status, then I'm all for it. It'll make the quest to obtain them an adventure with something to show for it.

However, if I take them at their word on it, and spend the next few months grinding out the badge only to have the weapons pack with them featured released the next week...

That is my only concern. I haven't been completely burned on the store yet. Like Sam said, fool me once and all that jazz, I'll get the Roman pack and be happy with it. I'll decimate the legions numbers in quest of my sword and display it as a sign of my... being able to go to Cim. I'll know that anyone holding one has fought the good fight etc.

I don't want them to just be doing a clever 'Hey, look over there' while they finish piecing together a weapons pack. I'd rather them reply to all the cries for the weapons with "We wanted to include a large selection of in-game unlock weapons, as a standalone pack due to it's scope. Just to maintain the good will and positive rep we've had all these years.
  10. I was talking more about the game circa 2006. True enough in the months before SSK the TF's were getting harder and harder to form. I personally feel it's one of the best changes to happen ever. I'm just not sold on it needing to be this way from day 1.

Because originally it didn't need to be. I believe it was changed to encourage more teaming among all levels as well as removing the ever constant call for bridges. Population shrank over the years so they had to open up teaming to all level ranges.

Now my level 30 can join your level 12 and the only thing I'm missing out on are a few powers.

As far as DfB to 50 goes. I'd never use it for such, though sadly I'm losing count of how many new players get roped into thinking it's 'Just the way things are done here' and end up getting burned out at 50 2 days later, without access to I-trials etc.

That's me though, I've been playing all these years and still only have 4 50's. Didn't have my 1st one until 5 years in! To me level 50 is retirement so I always end up putting off playing them when they get close.
The scrapper in my signature has been sitting at 123 points from 50 for over 2 years, I just can't bring myself to 'finish' him. I don't Incarnate (yet)

I do however, use DfB, to fast track all my new creations to level 12 for DO's. It used to be I'd push to level 22 for SO's and Stamina but these days, with Stamina and easy access to travels, I enjoy slowing down at level 12 and starting the journey. I can't stand the anemic damage and accuracy pre-DO's or I'd probably not even bother doing that.
  12. Same reason they no come to the Southern US...

  13. The reason they give is the only real problem I see.

If you are serious about holding off on the weapons, to maintain some exclusive rewards to the ITF/Zone, then I'll deal with it.

I'll take them at their word.

However, if they are simply misdirecting us with that statement, while they put together the weapons pack... I won't be as pleased as Samuel Tow that's for sure.

If they plan on releasing it down the line for purchase, come out and tell us now. Otherwise, I'll really have to start filtering everything said through a marketing translator. Perception is everything.
  14. The Dire Wolf will be the sticking point for me as well I'm afraid.

Concept wise, I don't see why they didn't just make the 2 Lions be Timber Wolves or Junkyard Dogs or something else Canine.
As it stands currently, Calling out a pack of 4 Wolves, with one of them larger than a car, and then 2 Lions, makes your lions look like they're gonna get eaten...

If it'd been a pack of 3 Wolves, 2 Lions and a loner type animal I could easliy come up with 3 or 4 concepts, everyting from Circus tamer to Mutant pied piper. Oh well.

They aren't the only ones doing things 'outside the box'. Another upcoming MMO about mysterious organizations will have numerous puzzles and riddles thoughout the game. Some that you simply can't solve without going to a specific website for information/clues etc. Others that, based off your knowledge of history, should be easy for most etc.

I like the approach personally, as long as it doesn't become tedious. Still I don't really see a way CoH could do it and make it work. Any legitimate puzzle they put in would be solved and instantly known before the end of the day.
  16. You know, it occurs to me while reading this thread, in all the years I've been playing I only have a handful of accolades on a select few toons. The rest.... whats an accolade?
  17. One word:

    FREEDOM!

This is the only MMO I've found that gives me such unlimited freedom.

I'm free to create a unique character and have a unique adventure. I'm still amazed that I can come up with fresh concepts and combos after 7 years. I never delete a character and I very rarely repeat powers. Yet I've created over 250 unique individuals and crafted interesting stories with them.

CoH gives me a giant playground to explore and create in.
CoH gives me a plethora of costume options to create with, at lvl 1, that don't effect my powers at all.
CoH gives me the freedom to play like I want, when I want, instead of forcing me to stand around and wait for a specific team makeup.

What makes CoH so good? One word:

    FREEDOM!

The purchase of this bundle allows players to unlock many of the main costume pieces for all other characters on your account without having to do the Task Force.
If that's the reason, so be it, but I'm gonna hold you to it and scream foul if they come out down the road in a weapons pack...
  19. Good luck, just don't try to Mire the Prof. in a half asleep stupor!
  20. This was another one of those Insta buy purchases for me, when I heard about it...

However, when I read that the swords were omitted, it became a 'buy piecemeal from costume creator as needed' deal.

    Just sayin'

    2) Interface and Judgement does the same damage for each AT: while you argue, "no fair, all other ATs got nukes like us", I argue "cool, now we have even more nukes" And I counter with, "Great so that's one less long recharge power I have to take from my primary, since everyone else sporting one means I'll never use it, being that it drains me and thus removes me from the fight..." Nobody is complaining about all AT's having them.

    3) Even if a scrapper/brute can out-damage a Blaster (rare, fringe cases exist) in Single-Target, they still suffer from low target caps: scrappers/brutes usually hit 1 enemy at a time, sometimes 5, and up to 7 (I think), whereas blaster AoEs often hit 10, up to 16 enemies for only slightly less damage. Yes the cases are rare for now, but if this power creep continues it will be the norm. Blasters being able to hit more targets becomes irrelevant when you have to leeroy infront of the tank just to get there before everything is dead.

    4) If you insist on using the IOs unbalance blasters, then I would simply tell you to build better: we can now softcap our defenses and max our HP, so the "our survivability is sacrificed for nothing!" argument is invalid: just as other ATs can build for damage, we can build to last. This is a bit hard to follow so sorry if I misunderstand. I'm mainly looking at this from an SO outlook, pre level 30. IMO a Scrapper should never be able to clear mobs as fast as a fire blaster at level 12. They should be able to clear safer but not as fast. This is no longer true, See also: Titan Weapons.

These are 4 solid points (even ignoring the simple "just double nuke..." argument) as to why, as DarkGob said, "If you feel like you're not contributing to the team, you're doing something wrong"
As far as being able to buff up Blasters defenses via IO's etc, as I pointed out, yes we can, but not to the same degree that the others can pimp out their damage, simply by virtue of our lower #'s.

I'm not arguing for anything to be removed, just the opposite. I'm arguing for Blasters to be brought up to speed with the current game. As it stands now, the only reason to pick a Blaster is for the range and concept as I can do just as much damage with much more safety, on nearly anything else.

Though we'll see if this changes once I get the last henchmen upgrade.
This is because they had to 'break' the AI code to get Demons to work properly. When Demons went live, the 'Get stuck at range' bug transformed into the 'Always dive into melee' bug. It was theorized at the time that because Demons was such a huge selling point for GR that they made the comprimise in order to get it out on time.

I still maintain that it's an intended handicap. We call it a bug but no redname has ever acknowledged it as such...

The current game is still fun and probably has a few more years of life left to it. But its long term future will require, at least at some point, a huge overhaul to keep it modern and relevant. The easiest way to do that will eventually be a brand new game that builds on the firm foundation of the current game.
Ignoring the useless drama, this is what I feel would be the best use of any 'surplus'.
Granted I doubt there is a surplus with the amount of content we've been getting, unless they really just sat on this treasure chest for over a year+. Still, I'd hope they are looking to the future, as much as I love this game it can't last more than 5 more years on the current engine.

    /So much this.

I tried multiple times over the years to get into Kheldians, always failing. Then I read this guide and with a bit of work ingame, I was able to finally get over that 'this form for this situation' trap.

Sgt. Shadow is now one of my strongest elites.

One other thing that really helped me was binding the forms to the back and forward buttons on my mouse, being able to change to either of the 3 forms without letting go of the mouse really helped. I've got back click for Nova, Forward click for Dwarf and Shift+Back for back to human from either form.

As far as the strategy goes concerning Alphas... I mainly use the teleport into mob Eclipse tactic.
Occasionally I'll stroll in with Dwarf to soak it, then hit Dwarf Mire, shift to human and Mire, shift to Nova and go to work. With the mouse I can formshift pretty quick. I never had much luck trying the stealth in tactic, the groups would always end up getting me to the red by the time Nova took hold.
