My Elec/Elec dom is only 24, so not having Synaptic Overload will make it more challenging, but I'll try and find a comparable mission for her when I get home tonight.
-
Elec has a pulsing sleep, that pulses so frequently it makes for effective mitigation even on AoE-nutty teams. It can be cast out of Line-of-sight, and can easily be made permable. It also returns some endurance to nearby teammates (granted, not a control, but still nice.)
The pulsing/continuous recasting of Elec's sleep makes it vastly superior to Mind's, imho.
It also has a pretty substantial capacity for End Drain, so that if and when enemies break out of a hold, sleep, or confusion, the best most can manage is a Brawl. Plus it is a pretty tasty self-buff.
Granted, Mind does have Terrify and I do love a good fear. You do trade the pulsing you'd get from Illusion's Spectral Terror for some Psi damage. -
Quote:No set can do all the things another set can do. And what fallacy exactly are you exposing now? What I said was "a non aggroing 16 target confuse power and stackable single target confuse."
In fact, I meant to include all of those things. No set can do the things that Mind can do.
This is the problem with splitting a quote to misconstrue the intended message. Your fallacy has been exposed.
Having an AoE confuse and a ST confuse is not exactly the granite foundation upon which to build a set.
All things being equal (secondaries, enhancements, and player skill) I would wager Electric Control can mange and shut down many more opponents than Mind. -
Quote:It is, however, a stackable single target confuse.Illusion isn't in your first post, and doesn't have the AoE confuse to stack with.
Mind doms can solo LRSFs. I don't think Mind is sub par in any way.
EDIT- to be more grammatical, Illusion has a stackable, single target confuse. -
Quote:Meh. Psi damage is pretty all-or-nothing is the resist department. I'd still rather have a pet.Woah, which one of those sets does position-less psi damage,
The "auto-hit" part is mildy interesting. Might be more so if accuracy was not so easy to boost through enhancement, set bonuses, and buffs.
Synaptic Overload. Granted, it takes slightly longer to jump to 16 targets, but you get it earlier, and its unique jumping nature means you can hit +def enemies easier by targeting their less defensive pals.
Seeds of Confusion deserves a mention, too. Sure, it aggros like a fart in an elevator, but you get it much earlier than Mass Confusion and its recharge is 1/4 that of Mass Confusion.
Quote:and stackable single target confuse? Because I am missing out!
I guess you're missing out. -
Wow, 7 pages and no one has dissed Mind Control?
Over the years, I have had soooo many great concept ideas for Mind trollers, then I get to the power selection screen and my heart just sinks. What a pile of hot garbage. The few little glimmers of coolness and uniqueness the set had have been stripped, improved and repackaged for newer sets like Plant and Electric control. -

Quote:THIS.The movie failed for two basic reasons, the main two characters, Scott and Ramona. There is nothing desirable/sympathetic about either of these two twain wrecks. To connect with audiences, a romantic comedy needs at least one of the two protagonists to be marginally likable, in order to achieve a level of emotional investment by the audience sufficient for them to give a #$&@ about the outcome. That emotional investment in the characters by the audience is the single most important ingredient in establishing a romantic dynamic. Both Scott and Ramona are thoughtless jerks. The "happy" ending (which blows the chance for story-level redemption by having Scott emotionally curbstomp the only sympathetic character in the film) is a stab in the face to anyone with an actual sense of romanticism (or adult behavior). Of COURSE this movie failed. What were they thinking?
It looked cool though.
When I saw the trailers, part of me was worried it was going to be a lot of silly gimmicks and in-jokes dressed over a thin, under-developed story. My only faith came from Wright's solid track record.
So much for the track record. My first instinct was right. The main characters are- at best- flat, and at worst, jerks. There's not much of a real plot, when you strip away all the cuteness and pointless fights. The fights themselves were usually resolved by the kind of dopey, lazy conventions you'd usually see in some 1970s Hanna Barbera cartoon. All the silly little crap peppered throughout the movie really just distracted from the story, or more even distracted from the lack of story. Cut out all the silly gimmicks, and you got a 40 minute movie about minor hipster drama.
Before I saw the movie, someone told each of the exes represented some aspec of Ramona's personality Scott had to "conquer" and the whole battle/video game thing was just his way of visualizing it. If it had actually worked that way, the movie would have actually been really amazing. There would be some story there. Too bad it didn't work that way.
And ya know what, while I got my rant on, lemme blast another detail- if you're going to make a movie derivative of video game visuals and conventions, maybe take some time and use VIDEO GAME VISUALS AND CONVENTIONS. Sometimes it seemed to click (the "pee" bar) and other times it was some arty, low fi, hand-rendered noise, like the opening credits, or the flat white slash when they played music.
IMHO, a far superior version of the same kind of story would be Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Not as funny of loaded with game refs, sure, but it had an actual story with fully formed characters using a crazy, surreal kind of dreamspace to deal with RL issues. Awkward, insecure hero and a brash but damaged heroine trying to figure themselves and each other out. Even has crazy hair colors.
Okay. I'm done. /rant -
Aye, that's from Akira. You could even say the image IS Akira.
I just got the print. It's pretty sweet! -
Can you post a regular version of your build? many of us don't always have access to Mids.
You're having endurance problems? Even with inherent Stamina? -
Maybe people are dreaming big, or farming so much they have billions to spread around. The ability to e-mail influence hasn't helped either.
OP, download Mids, make yourself a build and post it here. No one is going to do all the leg work for you. -
From my experience, Synaptic Overload does occasionally paint targets as Confused that are clearly not. Probably has to do with the chain leapfrogging to and from that target, even though it did not have sufficient magnitude to effect that target.
The nice thing is you can auto hit high defense targets by starting with their less defensive buddies. Like targeting Rikti officers to hit those slippery drones. -
-
I avoided Hot Feet and Blazing Aura for two reaons:
I didnt really have the slots to make either power shine.
I tend to Nuke as much as possible. Restarting toggles is a bit of a chore, not to mention an end suck.
Right now my endurance levels are rarely an issue, except for maybe long AV fights with few targets to Consume off of. And that is with no set bonuses to recovery.
EDIT - on the point of slots, would it be worth it to drop Burn and Combustion for HF and BA? -
My blaster has be fortunate enough to get a number of very useful purple drops (Ragnaroks and Hectombs) so I'm thinking of going all out on her.
My style is pretty reckless and aggressive. Uncork everything I got, including the Nuke, pop a blue and Consume, or eat floor and RotP, and then just keep cranking damage damage damage. Lots of PuGs and random teams/TFs.
I'm going Musculature right now for Alpha, but I may make a recharge and swap them out to see what works best.
Yeah, its crazy expensive, I know, but I like playing the toon ^_^ so the money and drops will come.
Thoughts?

H34lorz in game - overhyped
H34lorz in forums - underhyped
I've never started a TF or mission team on the condition of an Emp/ or Pain/ being present. They're nice to have along, but frequently not played as effectively as they could/should (in all fairness, playing an emp/ or pain/ effectively is tedious, exhausting, and kinda boring.)
That said, when my HP are crashing into the red and a Warwolf is about to food up on me, I want a H34lor. Throwing an ice shield or force bubble around my soon-to-be corpse is cold comfort. No pun intended.

I don't mind elec/shield brutes or scrappers, but I HATE it when the lead tank is a SD/ELEC. They have too much control over the pace of the team, and will sit on their hands until Shield Charge and/or Lightning Rod are recharged. Never mind that they have 7 fully capable damage dealing and support teams ready to charge on. It's all about them. >:-| -
While granted, WoC is not a stellar power, I've been finding it pulling its weight, especially on the ITF. Those damn Romans can unmez each other with the Shout of Command, but when WoC starts firing off on them, their Shout of Command actually buffs you! If you're already in melee anyway, its an added layer of control AND it pulses some damage to boot.
I haven't looked at the prices for the Confusions purps lately, but I seem to recall getting them for reasonable prices. Electric Control may have driven up demand.
I never slotted for slow in Hot Feet because I tend to spam Fire Cages alot. -
Here's my new build for i19. It's not cheap by any measure. It's built for maximum recharge and control. I usually team, and a tend to be in melee a half step behind the tank.
With my three free slots I picked up:
Smoke (very handy tactically)
Mutation (I've always felt bad about not being able to rez, people, especially after I use their corpse as nuke fuel)
Bonfire (situational, but when the situation arises, it kicks ***)
Going Spirtual Core/recharge with my Alpha slot too.

I'd like to add a few courses:
The Essence of Elevators. Magic go-boxes or everyday convenience?
The Pros of Herd Mentality and Group-Think. If an unknown attacker punts your buddy halfway across a warehouse, it actually might be your problem too.
Know When to Fold 'Em: The virtues of cowardice. A demigod spewing fire, death and despair just got in your face? Put away the baseball bat and quit the Hellions already.
Loitering in Warehouses for Fun and Profit. Those warehouses aren't going to loiter themselves.
The Buyer's Guide Real Estate in Paragon City. Just don't. Seriously. -
I went for the recharge-y one on my Fire/Rad. More recharge means more of everything, except maybe Endurance :-/
It also frees up some slots in powers like Lingering Rad, so now I can spend them in my 3 new powers. Bonfire might need that KB magnitude cranked up a few notches >;-D -
Wow, I wonder if we'll start seeing level 55 or 56 enemies, just to keep things spicy.
-
I ran the Alpha slot arch with my Fire/Rad troller last night. Everything was a breeze up until Honoree (he spawned as an AV.) I had to call in a SG friend who grabbed her brute, and then he was cake. Didn't even loose an imp.
-
Another vote for RotP. Its a key part of my Fire/Fire/Fire blaster's attack chain. Kill kill kill until I die, come back, kill some more.
Smoke is pretty unappreciated, since when it works right, nothing happens.
Too many Kin's don't appreciate the -regen in Transfusion, and how it can dramatically reduce the time of an AV battle, even if not one is hurt.
And I've noticed a trend lately of /dark masterminds not realize Howling Twilight is not just a rez, but a GROUP rez. More than a few times lately I've been on PuGs where half the team wipes, and we start talking in teamchat how AWESOME HT is and how it could rez all these folks. Meanwhile the one or two /dark MMs never seem to get the hint.
And its only with MMs. Corrs and Defs seem to know how to use their powers a bit better. -
Also consider Fire/Therm. Therm has heals almost as good as empathy, shields to make your imps and/or teammates more hearty, and some good buffs/debuffs. Plus, hey, its fire on fire.
-
Actually, I'd like to see the Doppelganger device used for a new Time Control set. Something akin to summoning a slightly out-of-sync version of yourself to help you fight. Or maybe you from a parallel universe where you happened to be a fire blaster or broadsword scrapper. Maybe you get a different "you" every time you cast the power.
I know some people hate that kind of uncertainty, but hey, you're messing with the fabric of the universe!
