Well I've been waiting, on and off, for a new Wonder Woman TV series for decades now so obviously I'll be first in line to watch anything that makes it to the TV screen even remotely Wonder Woman related.

It sounds like (from the link provided) that they are going to take a more real world tact with her, making her more like a "semi-realistic batman-like crimefighter" instead of a "Amazonian superpowered superheroine". That could work but obviously I'll need to see it before I'm sold on the idea. I'm sure some people will hate the thought of that concept instantly, but I'll give it a chance before I judge it. It might not end up being anything like the Wonder Woman that we're used to, but the show itself might be good in its own right. I guess we'll see.
  2. Hopefully they'll get a few more good shows out of this. Classic Red Dwarf was classic.
Sadly I'm not going to be "assuming" this'll be good. I'm just going to "hope" that it will be.

Eh, I agree the last movie left plenty of hooks/hints/cliffhangers for where the story could go. But frankly none of that interests me. Neo became the "crossover god" to both humans and machines. Where can he go from there except lose control of it and allow the humans and machines to start fighting again? In CoH terms Neo is already a level 50 Incarnate with all his Incarnate slots filled. Time for him to be retired...

An expanded origin story (as hinted by the Animatrix) would have more impact as a cautionary tale for audiences today as we get ever closer to the real life technological singularity. Don't get me wrong: if they make a Matrix 4 (or even 5) sequel I'll probably see it. But I'll take it as the only thing it really could be at this point - a grab for cash by Hollywood. *shrugs*

I think staying fit like Jack LaLanne did is important and he was definitely an icon of that. But clearly that's only half of the "big picture" going on to determine how long you're going to live. The genetics half of it is going to get you no matter how active you are. *shrugs*

I liked all three Matrix movies, but I'll agree that I don't think they were all equally good.

Probably the best way I can describe the way I feel about them is to compare them to how most people feel about the two Star Wars trilogies. The first Matrix movie was kind of like the first Star Wars Trilogy to me. It had a special quality about it that made it epic and iconic. It was so good that it alone made it possible for them to justify making two more sequels.

On the other hand the two Matrix sequels were more like the second Star Wars trilogy. They were cool to watch and the special effects were superior to the first movie. But somehow they lacked a certain "spark" or quality that made the first movie a classic. While I don't think the two sequels were "bad" movies per se I also think if they had never been made it wouldn't have been much of a loss. *shrugs*

Based on this I really don't think another sequel (or two) taking the story past the third movie is really necessary. Neo made the ultimate Christ-like sacrifice and brought peace to the world, period. Perfect end of the story for me. To be honest even though the prequel story of how the machines evolved to create the Matrix was already covered in the Animatrix I'd actually prefer to see an expanded live-action version of that story as a feature-length movie before seeing a far future post-Neo sequel. Other than that there's really no need for another Matrix movie, besides Hollywood's desire to make more money of course.

WoW (Blizzard) figured out that while the hard core players are your evangelists, the casual players pay the bills. WoW does not have twelve million hard core raiders. If even one percent of them are hard core players I would be amazed. WoW is eleven and a half million people that play because their cousin Vinny plays, and half a million people maybe that fall asleep at the keyboard. And this only works if, in spite of what some people say, in spite of what CoH players used to say way back when, WoW is very, very, very friendly to casual players. Not in all areas, but in enough of them. WoW is an MMO ramjet. WoW makes so much money on the 99% casual players that it can afford to make content targeted at the hardcore 1%, who then become the people who evangelize the game to other casual players who become the fuel for the WoW engine.

There's a reason the system requirements for WoW are still almost pathetically low. Higher system requirements would starve the ramjet of fuel.
I believe this is an excellent summation of what makes WoW "tick" as a MMO.

Over the years I've personally applied the classic "Mac vs PC" dynamic to describing the difference between CoX and WoW. WoW is the PC of the MMO world. It's the common denominator, the McDonald's, the 800 pound gorilla. CoX on the other hand is the Mac of the MMO world. It's the zealously loved unique game that's special, user-friendly, poorly understood/appreciated by outsiders. WoW may have many solo-friendly elements, but I think between the two CoX is "known" for being the solo-friendly game.

Thus when people see the perceived elements of one game (anti-solo raid groupthink) start to make their way towards the other game (the supposed champion of solo-ability) there's naturally going to be a "Mac vs PC" religious-level outcry to that.

It may be sad and unwarranted, but at least it's understandable. *shrugs*

That was probably the "compromise" they came up with. We just saw Carrie Fisher's Wishful Drinking HBO special last month and in it she specifically mentioned wearing a bra with the white dress at first and having Lucas tell her to "lose" the bra before filming. That must have been a fun day on the set.

    Wst

It would be a bit strange for this to NOT grant a bonus INF award as well, but I guess anything's possible.

Basically when you shake (the "official" term is wiggle) electrons hard enough, they will emit photons. Change the frequency you shake them, they produce light at difference frequencies (from infrared through X-rays). True, you need a linear accelerator to first get the electrons up to near light speed first and at reasonable density but that's relatively easy to do.
As long as they don't route the laser power through the ships' warp drives, which will cause it to be cut off during a warp drive imbalance situation, I'm sure they'll be fine.

Well since the Federal Government is living in a world where hammers cost $400 and toilet seats cost $800 it seems reasonable that things labeled "free" anything costs them $163 million. Imagine how much it would have cost if had been called the "regular" electron laser system.

    WST badges?

As an educated guess the phrase about running the WST "multiple times" to get the new badges implies we'll be getting a new "count" series of badges (i.e. Badge A for completing one WST, Badge B for completing five WSTs, Badge C for completing 10 WSTs, etc.). We might also be getting some kind of new version of the Task Force Commander badge that'll require us to run a certain set of WSTs to earn.

There might be others, but these seem likely candidates for consideration.

This kind of thing actually happens pretty often anyway. Just like shorter actors often wear lifts to give them an extra few inches of height on screen many actresses wear various things to give them an extra cup size or two. Directors have been "groping" over this kind of thing forever - I'm sure everyone remembers how Lucas prevented Carrie Fisher from wearing a bra on screen in the first Star Wars movie by famously declaring that "there are no bras in space".

Well I guess you're going to have to smack me then.

I don't technically have any problem with a "remote market access" power existing in the game in some form. I will just add my voice to many other people's who don't really like this being a post 7 year Vet award power, especially considering how often this particular kind of power has been specifically asked for over the years.

My main gripe about it is that we already had the precedent of other "remote access" powers being obtainable as Accolade powers. The Field Crafter badge grants the Portable Workbench power and the Mission Engineer badge grants the Architect Comlink power. Why couldn't there have been a new market accolade power made for this to match the others? There's no obvious reason why this new "access" power had to be gated behind a high-end Vet award other than it just being an arbitrary decision on the Devs' part.

I'll have this power in a few months so it's not that big a deal for me personally. I just continue to feel sorry for the folks who only have a few months or years into this game. *shrugs*

  17. Supply and demand will always regulate inflation. There will always be fluctuations up and down. If this game ever adds new major Influence sinks we may see prices take a nosedive. But beyond that I doubt we'll see major changes from what's happening today. *shrugs*

If you're going for simplicity I'd again suggest just going directly with Influence instead of adding yet another type of "currency" to this game. The numbers this system could use for prices could be set appropriately high to have the same net effect of the "conversion Influence sink" you're talking about.
  19. I still wonder if this had anything to do with DCUO. I mean if we accept the idea that DC's relationship to the CCA has been relatively meaningless for years why did they finally pick now to make their break from the CCA official? Just seems more than merely coincidental somehow.
  20. I wonder if there are any real life islands in the world named Alderaan that would make an effective target for these new (nearly) fully operational battle weapons.

Actually I said it was not unique/special enough to be a Vet award and Neuronia thought it was a "waaaay too good" enough power that it SHOULDN'T be Vet award.

The net result is that we BOTH thought it should NOT be a Vet award for two different reasons. We BOTH thought this should be a power that's obtainable via an Accolade badge, not a Vet award. I'd say the Devs managed to smash their thumb with their development hammer over this.

Why would we even need something like "Personal Prestige"? Why couldn't this Secret Lair system just be Influence based? Sure there are people out there with billions of Influence who would instantly have the biggest/best secret lairs this system would allow. But people have been suggesting all sorts of ways to add Influence sinks into this game and this would be a perfect way for people to "burn" billions of Influence. They could even come up with a rent system that would force people to continuously burn more Influence for upkeep.
  23. Like I said I never really knew the details about the CCA but I guess it makes sense that they were updated over the years. So I guess these big comic companies more or less police themselves now? Are there any other CCA equivalent organizations they still collectively pay attention to?

In this day and age it would be amazing to ever see any media regulations as restrictive as the original CCA apparently was. Still I'm sure there are those who would like to see that kind of thing return. That in and of itself is just as amazing.

Actually I'm glad she hasn't gone the enhancement route to look like every other blond, skinny but top heavy actress.
The thing is as an actress in a big budget movie it would be simple enough for Kiera to temporarily "enhance" herself for the role and via Hollywood magic I'm sure it could be made to look quite nice. Of course I suppose it would be a little weird to see her like that in a movie because everyone knows that she has a notoriously small "lung capacity" IRL. I suppose if she was a no-name actress no one's really seen before she could get away with it easier. But then again if she were a no-name then why would she have gotten the role in the first place?

If you think about it even Hathaway is not overly abundant in the lung capacity area.
I'm quite sure they'll manage to make her look nice regardless.
  25. I was aware of the CCA and that it was created back in the 50s in response to the Congressional activities of the time but I never really knew any details about it. Based on what's been listed here I kind of didn't even realize (like Cass_ implied) it was something ANY comic book company still ascribed to. The idea that DC just now officially announced dropping out of it almost seems weird to me. I especially like the last point about how females should be "drawn realistically without exaggeration of any physical qualities" given the standard jokes about how this has pretty much NOT been the case for decades now.

The timing of this seems interesting given that DCUO just went live a week or so ago.
Makes me wonder if there was any connection between these things...
