Actually, i did frostfire with a team yesterday. It was really fun and got me about a level and a half. Though fighting him wasn't very special since he died in about 30 seconds.
[/ QUOTE ]
Try him solo or with a duo on your next character.
(Be sure to bring a couple of Lucks and Break Frees when you try it, though. When he mezzes you before you have killed any of the guys around him, then he summons both pets, and then all six of them whale on you at once, don't say you weren't warned.)
Besides, the real fun of the Frostfire mission isn't Frostfire, it's the ice skating. -
[ QUOTE ]
Obtaining respecs isn't an issue. The issue (for me, anyway) is the exceeding tediousness of respeccing a level 50 character simply to replace a number of Enhancements without the penalty of losing the ones I'm replacing to the void.
[/ QUOTE ]
Enhancements are an influence sink. They were meant to be replaced as you leveled up. They were never meant to be reused. The Devs have gone on record saying that the only reason you can keep up to ten removed Enhancements is because they were feeling generous.
If the Enhancements are that valuable, you will take the the time to do the Respec, and buy more if you need to. When you get to the point that the value of the remaining Enhancements isn't worth the price or effort of a Respec, then they obviously aren't worth fretting over, either.
The game has few enough influence sinks as it is. Unless they come up with a new influence sink, the Enhancement sink needs to remain. -
[ QUOTE ]
OK One more thing , it's fine that you don't agree with my "SUGESTIONS", no ohter than just telling the Devs they need to fix this and that, since we're in a Suggestion Channel, do you have any Ideas? I have no power over anything the Developers may do with the further development of the game, but this is a suggestion thread for us to offer up our suggestions. If there are better suggestions I'm open to read, think about and discuss them.
[/ QUOTE ]
But, what if it is simply a bad idea? A barter system, especially at this point in the life of the game, would be very difficult to regulate, and it would require much more involvement on the part of the players in a game that is supposed to be casual friendly.
If those who disagree with an idea simply keep our traps shut, it gives you and others who read the suggestion a distorted view of the quality of the idea.
For example, while your idea might be relatively unique (I haven't seen it before), there are others that are very common because they come from folks who don't understand the differences between City of Heroes and most other MMOs. If the Devs saw the silence that followed every single time some nimrod came to the forums and demanded that they raise the level cap as the Community's agreement with the idea, then they might actually go through the process of ruining the entire balance of the game to add those ten+ levels because "the players want it."
If an idea is bad, or we feel that the system in place is more workable than the idea at hand, it is our responsibility to speak up.
Any rejection of an idea is not necessarily a rejection of the poster (unless the poster does something to make themselves a target of ridicule), it is a simple rejection of the idea. If we don't feel the idea has merit, there is no reason why we should knock ourselves out trying to refine it into one that we will like slightly more. -

I can't say that no one knows about the bug, just that I personally hadn't heard about it and Castle hadn't heard about it either. It may be sitting in programmer land right now or our QA department might be verifying it. *shrugs*
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe you should find out? I'm sure you're very busy, but "I dunno" is a pretty lame answer.
[/ QUOTE ]
If it were Castle's or Back Alley Brawler's job to fix it, then I agree that it should be high priority for them. However, it isn't. The folks who do QA and writing for the missions are not required to check in with the Powers folks (Castle and team) or the Animation folks (BAB and his assistants, if he has any) before they work on fixing a bugged mission.
Ask the right people, and you might get a more satisfactory answer.
[ QUOTE ]
Whatever, I guess we should just get used to the bug. Just like my Bruiser will always stand at range and throw rocks, however long I play this game. /kvetch
[/ QUOTE ]
Haven't played your Thugs Mastermind in a while? This bug was fixed with Issue 14. Castle adjusted the pet AI and made pets immune to modifictions to their recharge, which was interfering with the way pets cycled their powers. Your Bruiser should be acting like a Brute, now. -
[ QUOTE ]
I can see Kill All being a sensible objective for a mission.
That said, if I ever used it, I'd make sure the map was tiny.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have used it for two missions in the same arc. One on a very linear bank map (meant to be a MAGI Vault, under attack by Hellions), and the other in a very small casino map.
None of my other missions make you hunt down every last mob. Thankfully so, as the last mission of my Beauty is Skin Deep arc is on one of those large lab maps (There are a lot of objectives, so you will wind up seeing most of the map, but it is alright to miss some of the mobs). -

Well he is not saying I am to high he say I need to finsh what I started, but I neaver started any mish with him....oh well.
[/ QUOTE ]
That means that you have three active missions. If you have completed all of your missions, but haven't checked in with the Contact, then they still block you from getting another one. Call a Contact for a completed mission, don't take the next mission yet, then talk to Mark IV. -
[ QUOTE ]
EDIT: I see where you can change the stance by right clicking on the pet. Does this mean I can right click, change it to passive and as long as they are on follow, they are now in bodyguard mode?
[/ QUOTE ]
You need to edit those commands if you want to keep your pets in Bodyguard mode.
Right click on the button in your power tray, and then select "edit."
I usually change the Attack button to "goto_aggressive". This will give you a targeting circle, and you can tell your pets to move to a certain location and attack the closest thing they see.
I change the Follow button to "follow_defensive". This makes my pets follow me in bodyguard mode. The default Follow is "Follow_Aggressive", which isn't terribly useful.
I leave the Passive button alone, as I almost never use it.
Once you have your pets in the stance that you want, you can use the attack and follow button in the Pets Window to have specific tiers of pets perform any of the actions.
There are also Mastermind guides in the Player Guides section that provide handy keybinds to make controlling your pets even easier. -

Here's the latest patch notes. I'm sure theres something DOOOOM worthy HERE
[/ QUOTE ]
The new and improved DOOOOOOOM!1!1!!11!!!! from those patch notes is how we will have another mass exodus of PVPers over the change to PVP IO drops (PVP IOs will now drop only from Reputation valid kills, so you can't dual box and kill yourself repeatedly to farm the IOs). -

Sorry about my dumb moment here,,but I have been playingfor about 2 yrs now and I don't know what EATs and VEATs are. Can some one PLEASE tell me? because I feel really stupid right now.

Epic ArcheTypes = EAT
Hero EAT = HEAT
Villain EAT = VEAT
[/ QUOTE ]
Or, more specifically:
HEAT = Hero Epic Archetype = Peacebringers & Warshades (Kheldians)
VEAT = Villain Epic Archetype = Arachnos Widows & Arachnos Soldiers (Soldiers of Arachnos) -

Since changing you colors will be -20% damage how many of the non-carebears will actually do this?
[/ QUOTE ]
That 20% is a maximum value. Remember, it scales depending on how far you deviate from the correct color.
[/ QUOTE ]
This makes me glad i left cox......- dam due to changing color? TOTAL BS....if i change my shirt color do my muscles get bigger or weaker? NO. lmao at the devs they will drive this game into a slap fight among toothpicks
[/ QUOTE ]
You do realize that this entire thread is a running joke, don't you?
If you decide to come back, don't worry, there won't be any reduction in the effectiveness of any powers due to you changing any of the colors. -
[ QUOTE ]
He started as MA/SR, then when his leveling duo partner quit he rerolled as BS/SR.
Also, as for that arc, he's good but his gloves, boots and shoulderpads were off (banded, flared, black IMO)
[/ QUOTE ]
What? Like no one goes through costume changes? How many different iterations has Iron Man's armor gone through? How often did the Wasp come up with a new look?
Maybe Apex decided to go for the darker look after War Witch died.
On the other hand, it is kind of fun to see exactly how close you can get to an established look.
If the characterization is off, then we have an issue. -
[ QUOTE ]
Really happy overall with the patch changes...the 'arrows' marking our pets/hostage and such is the BEST!! THo...
When did mouseover info in the 'store's stop working ???
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe this is a bug. I noticed it in the Beta and sent in a Bug Report. I thought I saw it fixed on one of the Beta patches, but it may have not taken or returned. -
[ QUOTE ]
The devs do not care about player opinion. There is no point in trying to understand why this is the case, because unless you are willing to complain to ncsoft about it enough to get someone replaced, then it isnt going to change. Sad but true.
[/ QUOTE ]
Text of Barracuda Strike Force changed, based on Player Feedback.
Text of Kahn Task Force changes in the pipeline, based on Player Feedback.
Science Jacket 2 potenitally being changed to accept a second color on the center panel, based on Player Feedback.
Tier 1 Dominator Assault powers changed to faster recharge / lower endurance / lower damage for the Issue 15 Dominator changes, based on Player Feedback.
Power Customization (or at least, control over the hue of our Powers) coming in Issue 16, oft requested by players since the game's release.
ALL emotes that are available to all characters (not via the Boosters) being added to the quickchat menu, based on Player Feedback.
Combat Auras from the Cyborg Booster available from level 1, based on Player Feedback.
Should I go on? Or are you covering your eyes while reading this post so you can continue to feel wronged by Positron because he slapped your wrist over the way you and your friends were abusing the Mission Architect? -

- You're upset that none of the cape options are a towel wrapped around the neck.
[/ QUOTE ]
Jay? Could We? Please?
[/ QUOTE ]
And a helmet option that's a kitchen pot over your head, too.

I would love both of these options. They would probably only get used on a couple of characters, but they would be great fun to have. -

Moar Proliferation please. It's been more than a year and I want a Psychic Blast Corruptor. Pair it with Poison.
[/ QUOTE ]
Psychic Blast is tops of my Corruptor want list. Psychodomina would get rerolled from a Mind / Psi Dom into a Psy / Pain Corruptor in a heartbeat.
Dark Blast / Dark Manipulation is tops of my Blaster list.
Fire Blast / Thermal Radiation for Defenders
Cold Domination for Controllers
Super Strength / Ninjutsu for Scrappers
Electric / Electric for Tankers
Spines / Regen for Brutes
Psychic Blast / Poison for Corruptors
Dark Illusion / Dark Assault for Dominators
Sonic Resonance for Masterminds
Icy Melee / Ice Armor for Stalkers -
<QR>
Probably.
Since it looks like we'll be able to change the colours of our powers in Issue 16, you should be able to have your Corruptor's or Dominator's Electrical Blasts be Blue, Red, Green, or Lavendar before you "Go Rogue," if you want to. -
[ QUOTE ]
Jeeze... I need to get some of that then. Thanks for the replies.
Now I need to find out some cheep IO sets to get for this.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not as "necessary" as it used to be since they removed the damage buff from Domination and gave it Dominators full time with Issue 15.
The mez mag and duration increase, mez protection, and end bar refill are still nice, though.
edit: I don't think it can be done "cheaply." The lowest cost perma Dom build I have seen runs close to a billion infamy. -
[ QUOTE ]
That's not really the same thing. Back in the day, I saw people all the time rolling Kheldians that were their original 50s joined with an alien symbiote. That's not really going outside the backstory given, just adding onto it.
I'm talking about the people who RP their Khelds and such as angels and evolved polar bears and what have you. I always think, if you wanted X, why did you bother rolling Y? The same applies to the origin discussion. Especially in this day and age when leveling doesn't take nearly as long as it once did, if you think you made a mistake the first time around, it's not that hard to just go back and reroll as the "correct" origin.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sometimes, you just like the powers, and you couldn't care less about the canon stories.
My Human form Warshade and Peacebringer both deviate from the Kheldian story. As such, they don't partake in the Kheldian arcs.
Lord Aquarian is a cosmic being, birthed when the Moon entered the Seventh House and Jupiter aligned with Mars. (obviously inspired by the song Age of Aquarius / Let the Sun Shine In) Still Natural in Origin, but definately not a Kheldian.
Penumbral Walker is a spirit of vengeance who strikes from the shadows. Not a Science origin by any stretch of the imagination, but there are neither Dark Blasters nor Dark Controllers, so one makes do.
My tri-forms take part in the normal Kheldian story, and have backgrounds more in line with the canon. Gemini Darke is a reformed Nictus who bonded with a dying human to give them both a second chance to do good.
Erzuli was contacted by a Kheldian while she was a Cheval in a Voudou ceremony. She believes that Kheldians are spirits of the Loa, and the Kheldian can't seem to dissuade her. -
[ QUOTE ]
huh the cap could be raised on virtue too but freedom is really the only server that needs it. I think alot of people just find great pleasure in being a text bully. Like it really means anything though... half the time I don't take people serious over the internet but some of you make it look like its so damn personal.
[/ QUOTE ]
Part of the problem is that the OP has refused to accept the reasoning for the population cap that was given us by the Devs themselves.
The population cap is in place not because that is where it starts taxing the servers (Freedom and possibly Virtue already have more server hardware devoted to them to handle their higher populations), but that is where the server population starts to unduly impact the systems of many clients. Increasing the population cap will result in more problems with lag, mapserver, and disconnection issues for more players on Freedom and Virtue. The server hardware is sufficient to handle more players, a significant number of players' computers are not.
After this was explained (which the OP never acknowledged, but he did switch tracks), the OP suggested a new scheme where he could pay more money for "priority access," guaranteeing himself a place on his favored server, even if his logging on while the server is at the population cap will bump off another, non priority player. He followed this with a complete lack of understanding of the industry, and continues to think it would be a grand idea.
Here's a tip, OP, if it was such a good idea, why isn't WoW doing it? They have 13 million+ subscribers. If even 1 million of those subscribers were willing to pay $10 more per month to never have to wait in a server queue again, that would be another $120 million per year lining their pockets. Brilliant, right? Until you realize that if just over half that many people quit because they get bumped off of whatever they are doing (in the middle of a raid that took an hour to organize, say) because one of those priority folks logged on, Blizzard now loses over 500K subscribers, and has no additional revenue to show for it. This game's threshold for losing customers to ragequits is much lower.
Still a good idea? I think not. It is a horrible idea that deserves all the scorn thrown its way since it was proposed. The OPs defense of the idea by way of saying "I have more money that I am willing to throw at NCSoft, therefore I am more important than everyone else" has also met with much derision, and rightly so. -
[ QUOTE ]
Ironic you used Tabula Rasa as a name possibility in a NCSoft game.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's a good name, and suits the character concept.
If someone has their mind wiped, they begin again with a blank slate or a clean slate.
Tabula Rasa is Latin for blank slate. -
[ QUOTE ]
So, I skipped about 9 pages, and things were silly before and after the skip, but howsabouts some semi-serious help with a Mind/FF name? I can come up with all sorts of stuff for the mind part, but the FF is really getting me. I don't require (or even tend to like) my name being associated with both powersets, but... I feel I should have some ideas before I commit to something... Best I have so far is "Bubble Headed" ... which is a little demeaning.... being that Im the brunt of many a blond joke already, I think thats one I should avoid...
[/ QUOTE ]
Psychic Knight
Tabula Rasa
Super-Ego
Ego Shield
Id Wrangler
Miss Teke
Not sure which are available. I'd be surprised if the first two were available, but I have gotten names that I was sure were already taken before, so it probably doesn't hurt to check. -
[ QUOTE ]
And this thread just proves how many of you hate Freedom server. Many of you admit it openly.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not at all. Many of us hate "Freedomites." The definition of such being "those who exclusively play on Freedom Server." Many Freedomites think they are more important than players on other servers because they are playing on the server with the highest population, as if that sole factor was only metric by which the quality of the server and the players thereon was judged.
I have characters on all eleven servers. I am currently on Freedom cycle, which means that I am commited to playing each of my fourteen characters on Freedom for at least two levels before moving on to Guardian Server. I may or may not be done with my Freedom cycle by the time double xp weekend comes up. If I am not, I will try to get on Freedom to play. If I can't, you won't see me whining about it here in the forums because I am flexible enough to jump ahead a little in my cycle for a few days until I can get back on track.
I do not hate Freedom Server. I do hate the unfounded sense of entitlement that some players on Freedom Server have. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Priority access, what a stupid concept. But lets have fun with it anyway...
Say it does amazingly well and enough priority players boot off those unworthy pathetic players who both can't afford to pay more and are too stupid to just try another server.
You still grey out the server when it his x players no matter what they're paying.
Are you going to come back begging for another even more uber tier of pricing - super premium to make sure you get in even when its cram full of lowly premium people?
[/ QUOTE ]
Absolutely. If you get full, that's proof you didn't charge enough. Charge more the next time. Not everyone gets to sit in the front row of the sold out concert. Those with more resources do. It's business.
Business is about charging what the market will bear, not about fairness.
And this thread just proves how many of you hate Freedom server. Many of you admit it openly. If you were in favor of what is good for the game and its owners, you would want them to make as much money as possible.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think the idea of charging more for "priority access" is fine when you have a finite amount of spots, and the "gold circle" seats are known from the beginning as opposed to uprooting other paid customers to create new "gold circle" seats when the original "gold circle" seats sell out. If I don't want to pay that much to get in, then I don't go. If I am already in, and they uproot me from my seat because somebody else paid a little extra money, you damn well better believe that I am going to demand my money back. If the difference isn't at least the value of my ticket, then the venue will lose money on the deal. If I am with other people, they may also demand their money back if they can't sit with me. Now the value of the priority seating needs to be at least as much as all of our tickets.
In an environment with a virtually unlimited number of spaces, selling priority access like you propose could be disastrous. If I don't want to pay it, and I get kicked offline just because you want in, I'm going to be angry, especially if I were in the middle of something I considered important. If it happens enough, I will quit. If it happens to enough people, it could hurt the game's bottom line more than the extra income from the "priority memberships" can compensate for. It could effectively limit the game's population to the number of "priority memberships" available.
Still a good idea? I notice that the 800 pound gorilla isn't doing it yet, and they have server queues. It would be a natural place to start. Because I think the potential backfire of "priority memberships" could be devastating, I wouldn't mind at all if this was one place where CoH was a follower rather than an innovator. Let's see if it works for WoW, or WAR, or AoC, or EQII, or Lineage, or even Hello Kitty Online, before we try it here. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Seriously - you want to pay for "priority access," even *disconnecting* other players who don't play, but you won't use that same money to move to a server where you just *won't* have that problem... or even NOT pay and just roll an alt?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep. Play on another server, you are making a low level alt you will never play again when the congestion clears up. Your SG gets no prestige. Its a waste.
[/ QUOTE ]
Your SG is getting no Prestige when you can't log in to Freedom, either. Is that, in part, what this is about? "OMG!! Some other supergroup might knock our SG off the top 10 list during double XP weekend if I can't get on!"?!? I hate to bust your bubble, but the majority of players, even on Freedom, don't care what your SG rank is or how much Prestige you earn. Anything your group earns above what it takes to build and keep up your base is completely unnecessary. The only people who care are yourselves and the Prestige obsessed members of other supergroups.
And what makes you so sure that you will never play an alt on another server again? I know that every character I create is one that I want to play. It is some powerset combination that I haven't played before, and I have come up with a concept for it that pleases me. Just take the next idea you have for an alt, and create it on a different server, in conjunction with your wife and a couple other members of your SG. Now you have a ready made team on another server of characters that you all want to play, so that you have someplace to fall back on if Freedom is unavailable.
Playing on another server is only punishment if you look at it like punishment.
[ QUOTE ]
I'm all for fairness in you personal life, but in business, if you are a bigger client you get more perks. Pay more, get more. I can't believe the game owners haven't already done this.
[/ QUOTE ]
What happens if the number of "priority players" becomes greater than the server population cap? What if the non-priority person you kick off with your elite presence just happened to be finishing a Task Force, or a timed mission, or was leading a Hami Raid? What if, god forbid, everyone signed up for "priority access." Wouldn't we find ourselves in exactly the same boat, and your priority access be useless? I suppose, at that point, we'd need to have server queues like WoW, and you would be able to go to the front of that line, behind the other priority players who are already waiting.
I thank you for finally coming up with a solution that I haven't heard before, though. I don't agree, but at least you are thinking beyond "just throw more hardware at the problem, that will fix it." -
[ QUOTE ]
"Like adding more SG base items, more tailoring items and new faces, More world events, revamping "dead" zones into something new like what they did in Faultline, even something as simple as changing the movie theatre marquis from the old "5th column and Council"
Next time, take the time required to read a little more.I listed very simple and easy ideas from these forum over the years.
[/ QUOTE ]
What you don't seem to understand is the reason why we are confused by your rant.
All of these things are being added to the game already. The Devs are already submitting to your requests.
The way bases were built was recently revamped, enabling constructions that were completely impossible before. Once base raiding is fixed, I would fully expect that new base items will be added, as more people will be able to appreciate them.
New costume pieces are added in every single issue, in addition to the Booster Packs and Special Edition items. We just got 20 new faces.
Last Halloween they gave us the Zombie Apocalypses. Who knows what other events they might have cooking?
After revamping Faultline, they revamped the Hollows. Which Zone is next? Who knows? You are only assuming that they are done with Zone revamps. In fact, if you are paying attention, it looks like all of the Zones have received a revamp in the way they interact with our characters. The sounds of our footfalls are now dependant on the type of surface that we are running across. Another unannounced change from issue 15 is that the idling behavior of many mobs have changed.
What aren't you getting? How are we being shortchanegd? The Devs are doing every single thing you have just asked for. I simply don't see the point of your rant except to say that the Devs aren't doing it fast enough to suit your expert opinion as someone "who works in the industry."
Which means by the way, if you have intimate knowledge of how to program MMOs, that you work for a competing MMO. Not that I have a problem with this, nor do I expect you to reveal which one, except to confirm that my assumption is correct. If my assumption is incorrect, and you are not an MMO designer, then your own assumption that you know how to do the Devs' jobs is also incorrect. You may work in computer graphics design, but are you working with the same software as our Devs? You say that you can design 20 faces in a couple of hours, does that include attaching them to the existing character models and making sure they work with all of the possible details and textures?
It sounds like you are under the impression that all of our Devs work in a vacuum, responsible for only their own jobs with no coordination with any other department, and that as soon as they are done with each little task, they should upload it to the servers so that it can be patched into the game.
I want all the the things that you have mentioned and more. The difference is that I have faith that they will come, in their own time, when the Devs are done with them and they are done right (they look good, work as intended, and don't have any bugs that break other parts of the game). I do not feel shortchanged, and I don't imagine that I know more about how to do their jobs than they do.
My problem is not "blind defense of the game at all costs." Maybe my problem is humility. I take the Devs at their word about what is involved in their jobs, and trust that they know what they are doing. Your problem is arrogance. You do something involved in computer graphics or game design, and assume you intimately know the tools the Devs are using and that you can use them better.
I'd rather have my "problem" than yours.
