It helps to tell us the sets. Each set has different powers, and different IOs available to it. A solid option is to use Mids' Hero Designer if you don't already, and look at the Set Bonus Finder. That's a quick way to find all Max HP bonuses and whether they're practical for your build.

God forbid anyone have a discussion by sharing their ideas and trying to meet in the middle. Yeesh.

Other than wanting cool stuff to happen for Dominators, I have no "personal agenda"

The ideas weren't delivered that well, and I said so. I explained how the way they were described made me react and why.

As much as people think this forum is for dropping their ideas and going, it really really really doesn't help the devs to get a few descriptive words without knowing the Why behind why someone wants it, and what they're looking for. They've said this before, and it's true.

I left my idea not to push it, but to demonstrate how to explain why that's what I'm looking for.
  5. If this is just a speculation thread about what you think they're working on, you posted in the wrong place. You can't blame me for treating your post in the Suggestions and Ideas section like you were making suggestions and trying to discuss them on the merits or lack thereof.

What I'm trying to get at with asking you to explain your ideas is that if you want to play it, there must be reasons deeper than "because I want to" If you want to convince me the idea is good, you can and should examine what's in your head that you haven't conveyed, and try to convey it.

Sets can focus on aesthetics and be total failures in terms of function, the two are linked, and any idea for sets should examine how they'd play out together. Look at the progression we get from Dual Blades to Street Justice. DB looks great and has a lot of the same basic ideas and concepts at the root of their design. However in practice not enough work was put into the mechanics, and DB is a much less played set than it could be because of that.

We don't just want new sets for Dominators, we both want sets people will play! They have to not just look good, but be fun and useful so that people won't drop them before level 20.

This is precisely why I prefer doors. The exit animation is something on the order of 5+ seconds, and they're getting hit the entire time if you place your damage patches correctly. As a level shifted Plant/Thorn/Fire dom, when I solo a door I either kill entire spawns or at worst 1-2 Lts get by me with <15% life remaining.

Actually the expanded window shows life totals and the timers. Key being the ambush timer, which makes it a lot easier to control Strong and Pretty Badge runs, or let AoE specialists plan when to use which long cooldown Control/Damage powers.
  8. PS- telling someone who explains why they're not a fan of your ideas for themes not to pick them, is really dismissive. Especially since you focus on basically just tossing a name out there and the aesthetics, instead of explaining why you want to play a set like that. Do a better job of explaining why Animals would be cool and play in new and interesting ways and convince me. Don't shut me down because I offered a reasonable disagreement based on what you said.

I give ideas merit when they're good. When I read your post it stood out as a lot of "take this from that, and that from this, and give us a set" I want it clear to them that that is what they already tried to do when they made Dominators Assault sets in the first place and it was not fully successful, and would be a bad idea to try and do for Control sets too.

Your post didn't get credit from me because it smacked of settling for what you could get, and not new fresh ideas that my favorite AT deserves.

If you're going to tell the trained game designers who have done the work and know what they are talking about that they gave a "cop out answer" and that you'd "say they could make a water set pretty easily" Then I have just as much right to call you out on it and point out where you're in error as you do to say it.

I took the tone you used and gave it back to you, no more no less. When you start from a position of not giving respect, you shouldn't act surprised when you don't get some back.

I was once lucky enough to be right behind a friend who flew ahead to the plaza on the last mission of an ITF. He targeted a central guy and it jumped out to about 80% of the mobs standing there. It was one of the cooler things I've seen ingame in the last year.

The only thing I've been able to think about since I read this is wanting to be there when someone who is 20 yards from completing their last Gold Medal Ski Run gets LFG ported into my mission.

    A) This particular event being group only is not part of a "recent" push. It's the event that was in last year, with a different way to access it.

    B) Super Big Group required content is pretty much the Final Frontier for this game. By which I mean, there wasn't much before, and it's long past time to devote some resources to it.

    C) if they were skimping on things for soloists and small groups to do, you might have a point. However new zones, new arcs, and announcements for a solo Incarnate Path are all clear indicators that your alleged "trend" is bogus.
  13. Actually for a change I agree with GG. Give the people that paid the money and took the time to go the most consideration.

Would you rather they didn't UStream anything and we had to wait for tweets or forum posts when people got back to their hotel rooms?

What they did may not have been the most edifying for those of us that didn't go, but the fact that they at least made an effort for us says something, and the fact that they wanted to make things interesting for the people that did get up the go to go does too.

    TL;DR- Get over yourselves.
  14. Ionic is both the flashiest, and the most easily leveraged AoE of all of them, which is why a lot take it. I have it on one character, but overall I've been much happier with Pyronic and more recently Vorpal. I've never taken the cold one, and probably never will. I had void on my Scrapper and am much happier with Vorpal (both for concept reasons and the way it "feels" more effective).

I'm not saying there's no reason to hope. I'm saying that cobbling existing effects that don't succeed fully is no way to make a new shiny. If they're working on it, great. But no one should say it could be done "easily" based on what we've seen so far, since nothing has really hit it yet.
  16. So before the inevitable "you're a big meanie for tearing him down when you don't have any ideas of your own" post, I'll pop up what I'd like to see.

It's clear I want sets designed from scratch, so that's what it would be. People get far too hung up on aesthetics when it comes to control sets, and that often ends up making for less coherent gameplay.

So lets go with those ground rules.

-Make us something that plays out remarkably different than most other Control/debuff sets we have.

-Since we're talking about Dominators, make a set that specifically accounts for how it would behave under Domination, because it would be really nice to have a set specifically designed for how Doms get played in the modern game, then adjust it for Controllers after the fact, instead of making a typical Controllery set and kind of hoping it works ok for Doms too.

    - Avoid the 2 Holds 2 Immobs 1 Pet cookie cutter template. I don't dislike it, but we're coming up with something new, right? Don't paint yourself into a corner by locking down 5 of your powers early.

    - MAKE IT FAST pets aren't fast, drop patch powers aren't fast, use them if you must, but make the player feel like they're not a hindrance (Carrion Vines is a perfect example, a drop patch that follows you and continues to work). Use cool new things like Non Targeted AoE, and lingering status states (like Disintegrate) so that the work of other players becomes easier, and there's better group synergy.

    - Don't include self defeating mezzes, or at least give us control over which ones end up where.

The idea in my head uses some of the thinking that went into Beam Rifle, Time Manipulation, and Street Justice. Make a Control set that works on a Reverse Combo system. Instead of Builders and Finishers, use Starters and Pumpers. The Dom then chooses the mezz he wants to lay on something as the starter, then uses the pumper to boost the effects. Some starters could pump up from Single Target to AoE, Some could pump from low damage to high, others could pump up to being much less resistable or carry heavy debuffs.

The way I see such a set playing out is the Dom could lay fast quick controls on minions as needed and rapidly switch targets, or focus on the main target and pump up larger effects without being penalized for Over Control, and without feeling useless against the largest hardest targets.
  17. Dark Control was announced yesterday at the Player Summit. They haven't said anything beyond that, and all they ever really said was in response to no powerset proliferation was that good things were coming for Dominators too. People tended to morph that very ambiguous statement into "Mystery Plans" or "big changes" and all the baseless speculation contained therein.

I am 85% certain that all they were referring to was Darkness Control already being in their pipeline, and we shouldn't be looking for much more beyond that.

As for your suggestions for sets?

    - Their reasons for not doing Water Control have been made clear time and again, and calling it a cop out when you clearly don't know enough about it to say, doesn't make it a good idea. The few water like powers we have don't imply they could "easily" do more. In fact, they look bad enough that I wouldn't want them to cop out and do more based on what they did there. They used them in limited pools and rarely seen NPCs so the work wouldn't go to waste, but they level of Ugh is high enough that they'd never stand up to use as a 1-50 powerset.

    - Animals? Not my thing and doesn't sound like it opens up very options for interesting Controls other than "X thing is on my FACE/LEG/ARM getitoff!"

    - Cobbled sets are lame when other ATs get fresh and coherent sets designed from scratch. Cobbling 9 powers together from other sets is what got us the poorly balanced Assault sets we've had to live with for years. This point applies to the last 3 sets you suggested before Dark. Not to mention your descriptions of the Assault sets sound like Redraw Hell.

And 'doms or controllers' is not the issue. Controllers bring force multiplier powers.
The only difference when I didn't have level shifts was I wasn't killing them myself. I had full control as long as people didn't scatter the ambush with stupid powers.

Considering my one dom can handle entire waves of boss ranked ambushes solo, thus leaving the entire rest of the league to pound on AVs, I find these attempts to make Doms sound useless on iTrials pretty pathetic.

With the addition of APPs, Doms get massive and reliable AoE damage. A competent at +1 or higher level shift can pretty much solo block a door.

Just because we're not designed to be beastly against the biggest sack of hit points on the map doesn't mean we're useless.

I've seen the addition of 1-3 doms or controllers turn a twice failed BAF group into an easy breezy success run with no escapes. People trying to say Doms are useless are blind or looking really really hard for something to complain about.

Can someone give me a tip on the detailed strat here?
If your Lambda group splits by team leaders I recommend any or all of the following:

    A) make sure you go down the right elevator.
    B) right click on the name of your team lead or the designated person to follow, and Select as Waypoint. This puts a yellow wp on them that can give you quick cues about which corner they went around.
    C) MINIMAP IS YOUR FRIEND. Get used to having it open on the Sabotage phase, and get used to manually zooming it back out when you go down the elevator (it tends to zoom in 10-20% for no good reason). Also set your minimap options to Show Leaguemates. If you see bright green triangles you're with your team, if you see faded green, you're with the other team, or someone took the wrong elevator.

    3) Did a few BAFs in the last few nights. These worked great (except that so many want to camp the doors instead of chokes, yet say nothing about it when the leader says we'll be using chokes, then fail to do chokes ). However, in the NS & Siege battle, how are people checking to compare their health? I wrote two macros to target each after my last run, but I'm not sure if that's the right technique.
Very few people on my server do chokepoints, but if that's what your lead calls for, don't get hung upon who doesn't do it unless most of the league flat out doesn't listen and it's leading to imminent fail (losing a couple prisoners and not getting the bonus Astral is nothing to get uptight over).

In modern zone events and Trials, there's an objective window that pops up. You may have closed it, hidden it or something, but it's there and available. In the case of the BAF, it shows the life bar of Siege and NS right on top of each other, and it's easy to watch both. (Pro Tip: you can click on those life bars to target the NPC very handy in the middle of people and ambushes and long range clicking issues the game can have).
